That is a very nice write-up on Tara and the W/T relationship. Thanks for posting it, Tim. :)

I like this bit particulary

When Tara was killed, fans absolutely blew up at Joss Whedon. Part of it was (perhaps justifiable) anger over losing one of the best (and only) lesbian characters on television being killed off. Another part of it, though, was the utter dismay of losing Tara as a character, of losing her lightness and moral compass.

I know this thread has been dying for a while, and I'm normally reluctant to revive threads myself, but I feel unusually compelled to bring this up.

While I wholeheartedly agree with everything the author has to say about Tara and her relationship with Willow, I take issue with the wording of this line:

When Tara is helpless and incapacitated by a hell god, a devastated Willow must take care of her.

There simply was no "must" about it. In fact, the most remarkable thing about that point in time was indeed the fact that Willow absolutely did not HAVE to take care of Tara. The hospital wanted to keep her, and, though none would ever dare voice it for fear of incurring the wrath of a particular redheaded witch, I'm sure the Scoobs had some reservations about taking an incapacitated Tara with them on their journey to defeat Glory. Willow chose, perhaps against better logical judgement, to take care of her because that's how strong their bond and their love was. Those crucial days in the series, and Willow's unflinching determination to care for Tara while also trying to stop an apocalypse (surely, a most stressful scenario in which to be) was in fact what cemented their love as unconditional, undying, and unyielding in my eyes, personally.

I think a lot of us don't give Willow enough credit for that.

There's my two cents. I now take leave of my soap box.

You are right SD. When we saw that episode when it aired, it was electric. It was Joss at his finest. It is very hard to show love in fiction. Not romance, not verbal proclamations, but the look in someone else's eyes when you could not survive without each other.
