Amber @ Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon February 16th

Postby scifiacid » Wed Jan 08, 2003 8:41 pm

So I just got this email from the people who are putting on this celebrity bowl-a-thon. It says that Amber is confirmed so I'll post it so Kittens can get some first dibs at it. I'll dig more into it for more details and confirmation.

Adrienne

------------

Amber Benson's management has confirmed that Amber will be attending the Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, February 16th at AMF Rocket Lanes, Chatsworth, CA. Amber will be bowling with two different teams and will be staying for lunch. The Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon is a charity event for Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA). Below is more info on the event and how to sign up.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All proceeds of the Zeke Lerner Bowl-A-Thon will benefit Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy(FSMA). Zeke and his family will be there to support the event. It will be held at AMF Rocket Lanes, Chatsworth, CA on Sunday, February 16th, 2003 from 12pm to 5pm. It is a holiday weekend, so most people will have Monday off. The plan is to have a team of 5 bowlers and 1 celebrity on each lane. There will be 3 games, and we are asking the celebrities to join us for at least two. So, as long as we get enough celebrities, each team will bowl with two different ones.

We are, of course, inviting all of the Buffy and Angel cast, and a number of guest stars, as well as other actors, musicians, athletes, and radio and TV personalities.

Space is limited, since we can only fit 5 people on a lane. The minimum donation to participate is $70 per person. We will also have a pledge sheet for you to print so that you can get friends and family, or local businesses to sponsor you, just like with a walk-a-thon. The $70.00 fee will cover lunch, beverages, a souvenir program, 3 games, and shoe rental. Commemorative T-shirts will be $10.00, and will be available only by pre-ordering.

*** You can also come watch the event on a first come, first serve basis for $20. ***

We will be having a contest in which the team that raises the most money will get to choose both celebrities that they will get to bowl with. The second place team will get to choose one of the celebrities they will bowl with. There will be an auction at the event as well. Money raised for the contest will be due by January 31st, so that we can get a celebrity list out to the winning teams.

Each team (anywhere from 2 to 5 people) should have one person sign up for the whole team. That person will need to know each bowlers' name (first and last), posting name (if they have one), address, phone number, e-mail, and if they will be staying in a hotel or not. We have a wonderful and

supportive hotel working on a group discount for us of $70 a night.

If a team has less than 5 people, we will add individuals looking for teams to it. And you may sign up as an individual if you do not have a team together at the point of registration.

We look forward to seeing you all there! Get started organizing those teams! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at bowl4fsma@hotmail.com or visit our website at bowl4fsma.org

Take Care everbody!

Bowling is freaking awesome. Now only if I had 70 dollars, that's a bit of a problem for me a poor college student. But I freaking love to bowl, my average is 146, but I'm still working on that. I haven't been doing to good lately. The other day I got 154 which has been my highest score this year. But man I'd bowl, but I don't have anyone to bowl with and I'd have to like go through the nickels and dimes and etc. to get the money to bowl, but I shall see.

Hi Everyone *waves* I'm one of the organizers of the bowl-a-thon and thought I'd stop by and say hi.

Adrienne, thanks for posting that! I'm the one who sent it to you.

GrahamStokley, I'm guessing you are the one who emailed the bowl4fsma email. I hope you get to come!

dabri99, you can get sponsors to help pay for the $70. There are a lot of people who have been doing that. And your scores are so great compared to mine! I'm a horrible bowler--I think the last time I went I barely got up to 50. :lol

dabri99, we are assigning teams to people who don't have a team. I promise that we'd sign you up with another Buffy person. You might want to talk to GrahamStokley (see an above post) -- she's thinking about coming.

Sounds like a great event and I would love to attend but I've already planned on the weekend of drunkeness in xita's room in Vegas during the Viva Las Kitten smutty gathering.

And yet, I just can't seem to care

Just for those people who don't know who Zeke Lerner is (which is unlikely unless you are a big Roswell/Shiri Appleby freak like me), Zeke is the son of Garrett Lerner who was one of the writers on Roswell. The fans have held multiple fundraisers, but this is the first one I have heard of Amber attending. :) I already donated and got some A Time for Dancing memorabilia as a result. If it weren't for student teaching and the fact that I really don't have time for a plane ride, you can bet I'd be there, especially to see Amber since I haven't met her.

I would go but I too am setting course for the drunkeness of Las Vegas. That's ok though. I'll be seeing her at Metro. Again. I don't need her thinking I'm any more of a stalker than I am (but the adoring, not the scary kind).

Way to go Amber. Always willing to help out charity. What can I say she rocks my world!

Thanks for all the support everyone! I hope you all have fun at your Vegas event!! :)

GiftofAmber was correct in her explanation of who Zeke is. This event is mainly run by Roswell fans but a lot of us are Buffy fans too. The organizers wanted to be able to include as many people as possible. I'm friends with the Lerners and they are the nicest people. They will also be attending the event. Zeke is also a big brother now!

We talked to the alley about setting up some sort of broadcast but unfortunately it probably won't work out. If you do want to send donations though, you can send them to the address on the website and/or contact one of us. All of it goes directly to FSMA.

bummer about the lack of internet connection for an on going up date (sure someone with a moden and lap top can't bring it along and give a regular update to your website for the event/answer emails?)

well anyway - if amber is taking part we can of course support her and this charity

I suggest we make pledges via ambers bowling performace ;)

we can all go to the website

www.bowl4fsma.org/

and make a pledge for:

X$'s per strike - or - spare - or - open frame ;) or what ever you wish - to a max of Y$'s total for the two games bowled by amber :)

G O A M B E R !!!

I'm willing to make a pledge of 10 bucks per strike thrown by amber -

anyone else want to join me ;)

Ooh I wish I could go to this. But since the Kitten Vegas thing requires me to go nowhere, and this requires me to leave Vegas, I'm gonna have to choose sticking around Sin City. Too bad. I bet Amber's adorable in bowling shoes.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here." Alice In Wonderland~*~My Journal

Postby kajo 2000 » Sun Feb 09, 2003 2:39 pm

From the Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon website:

bowl4fsma.org/

There will be three games played. Each lane will have a team of five participants and, as long as we get enough, one celebrity. For the second game, the celebrities will rotate lanes, giving you a chance to bowl with two different celebrities at the Bowl-A-Thon.

We are asking that the celebrities stay and bowl two games with us, but, of course they are invited to stay and bowl the final game if they would like to. We will also be serving lunch, and having an auction at the event.

The minimum donation required to participate is $70 per person. For this donation, you will get three games, shoe rental, lunch, beverages and a souvenir event program.

For those who wish to just come and watch the event, and not participate, we will be charging $10 ($5 for children under 12 years old) at the door. Only participants will be allowed to go down to the lanes. People paying the entrance fee will not be allowed to go down to the bowling lanes where the celebrities will be.

Postby dabri99 » Sun Feb 16, 2003 10:18 pm

Is it my computer or is the bowl a thon website not working? I think it's my computer. Oh well I had fun bowling. Didn't bowl as well as I had been and had wanted to but oh well. Amber bowled a 71 on her first game don't know about her second game. She had a hard time going to the bathroom because of so many people coming after her, so that was kind of interesting. I didn't really get talk to her since everyone else wanted to talk to her, so I just let everyone else talk to her and I just sat and watch. Then bowl. What was funny for some reason she picked up my snoopy bowling ball and bowled with it and i think she put a nice new gash in my ball. All in all it was an interesting day. I'm sleepy, maybe I should go to sleep.

Just to make note, I might post on her occasionally, but I'm not a Kitten. However I'm not an Amberholic either, if that makes you happy. I'm just a fan of Amber's and that's it. Sorry if that sounds rude, but that's just how I feel about.

I know there were a few more people who bowled, but I don't know if they were kittens or amberholics, so I couldn't tell you. But I know about 15 Amber fans bowled and there were a few who watched.

Postby prscully » Wed Feb 19, 2003 6:47 pm

Just wanted to share this with you all! This is from Andrea, my co-coordinator.

I am so glad you all had so much fun. We can't wait until next year. We're already cooking up some great ideas to make it even better. A big, huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, and participated, and came as a spectator, (and even sent us supportive mental vibes if you couldn't make it). Without you guys, this never would have been a success. But I'm happy to say, it was great!

I'll make you all wait no longer. Here's the deal on how much we raised...

I do not have an exact amount, we are still totaling the final donations from that day, and that were in the PO Box when I got back to San Diego. But, we know that we grossed at least over...

$20,100.00 Woohoo!!!!

Way to go everybody! I'll be sure to post the exact amount ASAP

Also, I'd like to say CONGRATULATIONS to our winning team from the contest, The Confessional Lolitas. You guys did an awesome fundraising job. Together they raised over $1,100.00 ($650 of which came in on the day before the contest ended). Awesome guys!!!!

Please, feel free to share all of your stories, I want to hear all about everyone's day since I was running around like a mad woman and I didn't get to talk to too many people. Next year we'll know what to expect and I hope to get to spend time with more of you!

Also, any feedback, positive and negative (just don't be too harsh...I'm sensitive! :lol is much appreciated. We want it to be a great event for all involved. Looking forward to next year...

Take Care guys, and thanks again!

Andie

++++++++++++++++

I got some of my pictures back today--I didn't really have the chance to take many though because I was running around doing stuff. I have one of me and Amer though so I'll post it as soon as I scan it in.

I'm adding a gallery to the bowl-a-thon site. Until it gets "real" domain site (right now it's redirected to my personal domain) the gallery is here

If you took any pictures at the event, please send them my way or post them and let me know if I can include them in the gallery! Thanks!

Thanks for the Amber pic and info prscully. What a wonderful event and raising over $20,000 is fantastic. Sounds like there was lots of fun to be had by all who attended. If I went to something like that and had to bowl in front of Amber I would probably be so nervous that I'd trip and slide down the alley or something equally horrifying. Then Amber would have to nurse all my aches and pains (that's it I'm flying to the states for the next one :lol ).

BTW are there any pics of Amber bowling?
