San Diego Comic Con

Postby jdcioffi » Wed Jul 17, 2002 9:31 am

Hey, I just wanted to open a thread about the upcoming Comic Con.

The guest list is hazy, but I'm pretty sure Joss will be there (as he usually is).

There's no word about Amber appearing anywhere on the official Con site. It's coming up withing 15 days, but I'm remaining hopeful she'll be there.

I will be going ... and think it'd be cool to meet some of the kittens. (You're all famous, you know).

If anyone has Amber appearance news, please post it here.

Amber has been invited to the convention by Dark Horse comics. They have yet to post their official guest list. Also with Amber being on decompression with her family, it's iffy if she will be back in time to attend.

Well officially, of course, I have to say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

No sooner do I bitch about DH, they published their schedule:

SATURDAY

Joss Whedon Q&A

3:30 - 4:30 p.m., Saturday August 3, 2002

Room 6 (C,D,E,F)

Participants: Joss Whedon

Dark Horse Comics presents Joss Whedon, the creator behind the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel! Last year, Joss made a splash with his comics writing debut Fray and this Fall, he brings his futuristic adventure Firefly to television! This is your chance to ask Joss about the comics, the shows, and his writing career! Don't miss it!

Oh Joss, I got your Q&A right here buddy.

Well officially, of course, I have to say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

Amber would still be on vacation, I'm sure, given the schedule she mentioned at Toronto Trek.

And yes, a Joss Q&A would be fun. I'd love to call him on the 'Tara is here to stay' lie and watch him squirm.

Too bad San Diego is WAY too far for me...

Unfortunately, Kalita, I don't think he will squirm. I think he's too engrossed in himself, I mean, other things to care about that.

He's stated before that he loves Amber and Tara ... and he's stated that Amber (one or the other will be back). I think that's gonna be his excuse not to squirm.

I look forward to a Q&A as well ... I'm gonna be there, so lemme know if there's something you want asked. :lol

As for Amber on vacation. *sigh* She does deserve it. I was planning on going whether or not she would be there -- but I did have a small bit of hope that she'd surprise us.

Who knows, I know the first time she was there, she was announced pretty late. Wait and see but by no means count on it.

Dark Horse only announced the panels they are participating in, they still have yet to release their official guest list and autograph list. Again, they invited her, so they will be the ones who will announce if she is attending, not the actual Con.

Honestly, it was Joss that I really wanted to see here. I have a lovely gift for him.

Should he be scared? :lol

I'm sure quite a few kittens have things they'd like to give him as well -- and not just an earful.

He need not be scared of the gift, I got him a Kitten tshirt. ;)

But he should be scared on general principal and not stand in front of

any two story windows on general principal... at least not while wearing his

kitten tshirt.

Rally - You should accidently* give him a shirt with a small hole cut out of the chest. Oh, and say 'Your shirt' when you give it to him.

The um shirt has a hole on it, it's a special shirt. That we did up in the hopes of seeing Joss in San Diego. They have the kitten logo on the front and this on the back:

This was another thing that kind of came out in chat, about getting got tara shirts done up and I added the bullet hole cause, ya know my humor runs in that kind of irony is kinda ironic direction.

They are available at the Kitten Cafe Press store now, but will only be there for a short time. Some of you will find them offensive, some of you will find them humorous, so please use your judgement.

Also if you don't buy weird stuff like some people *cough*xita*cough*, Cafe Press ships in about 2 days. I got my shirts immediately. So there is plenty of time to order them before SDCC for those of you attending.

I ordered extras and someone asked me if I was going to give one to Amber and I said no, but I would give one to Joss. So hopefully I will get my chance.

I have neither time nor money that I'd want to give Joss Whedon, so I'll be sitting out the con. I'm not sure I'd want to be there listening to the answers that are going to spew out of his mouth.

Be sure he gets copies of all the stuff we've written, though. Heck, I've been tempted to suggest we get lots of copies printed out and handed to people around the con.

I am finally getting to narrow my plans down for the con, now that work is finaly sorting itself out. So I will put together a Joss care package which includes the FAQ.

Maybe that care package should include one of Bob's essays as well. Namely the "It's Not Homophobia" one.

The T-shirt is a nice touch. Are you going to wait a round to get his reation to it? I like to see the look on his face for that one.

I went to the Cafe to see the shirts -- but I couldn't find them. I found the general ones ... the regular Kitten board shirts. Am I missing something?

I am scrambling as it is, my situation at work, is such that I was not even able to get the ok for my vacation until today and the paperwork is still not signed. Hotels are already booked solid in San Diego, though I think I got a reservation where I wanted.

Joss no doubt will be mobbed. Dark Horse has yet to announce who will be signing autographs and that would probably be the best opportunity to see him. He will probably be wandering around the con, but for those of you have never been to a SDCC, it is HUGE.

I will make copies of all the appropriate docs, FAQ, OMWB, essays etc, and try to have extras on hand. I will be wearing my Kitten shirts all three days I am there and happy to hook up with those of you who I haven't already spoken too.

But keep in mind folks, this is my vacation. I am not going to stalk Joss. I am going to hook up with Kittens, enjoy the beautiful city of San Diego and all their great restraunts. Also hopefully have another one of those all night California Kitten drinking and singing parties.

Comic Con is huge, and the line for Joss is one of the most huge things in it. The only time available to hand him anything will most likely be in the autograph line.

That doesn't mean copies of various things can't be left lying around for convention-goes to pick up and read, though. Does it?

I'm hoping to see some kittens there -- I'm not sure if I'll have shirts or not. (Money sitch and all ...) .

I'll keep my eyes peeled ... in a not gross way.
