Aly interview in TV Highlights

Postby kajo 2000 » Thu Sep 04, 2003 7:17 am

Slayerverse.de has a transcript of a new Aly interview in the German magazine TV Highlights.

I didn't like to keep asking other Kittens to undertake English translations so I attempted one using an online automatic translator. Thanks to DrG and serenity for the assistance.

Aly interview part 1

The current issue of TV Highlights has a detailed interview with Alyson Hannigan and Jason Biggs. Here is the first part for you.

TVHighlights: Good day, Alyson. A warm welcome to Hamburg. You look really great, no signs of jet-lag on you.

Alyson Hannigan: Really? Thanks, but I had a really good make-up artist this morning. That is the secret of my good appearance. In reality I am terribly tired and have thick eye rings.

TVH: Where is your man? Is he also here?

AH: Oh, no, unfortunately not. He is at home and has to work.

TVH: Work? The new season of Angel?

AH: Yes, exactly. The plans for the new season are really strange.

TVH: Do you 'phone each other every day?

AH: We try to. The time difference is murder for me. If I call, he is always at work or if he calls, then I am already in bed. So it's very difficult for us at the moment. My poor darling, I miss him so much.

TVH: Well, soon you'll have him back again...

AH: Yes and my three dogs and my cat. Then they'll all get their presents!

TVH: Presents? Are you saying that with all these dates in Europe you still had time for shopping? Did you see anything of Hamburg?

AH: Not as much as I would have liked to. We arrived a bit early yesterday afternoon. So I had time to relax and recover from the flight. Afterwards, we all went out together and caused havoc at the big shopping mall near the hotel. That was a lot of fun.

TVH: And, what did you buy?

AH: Oh, don't ask, way too much! But there were so many great things. I bought a sweater, very tight with a zipper at the collar. And another very cool sweatshirt, which is very soft and snuggly. For Alexis a quality fountain pen and a ball-point pen. And lots of little things. So this and that. We were in good spirits and the bargains were just too cool.

TVH: But the city of Hamburg, you didn't see much of it?

AH: No, except the many beautiful green trees on the way into the city center. It seems to be a very green city. We were all very surprised, how warm it is, almost like home. Otherwise we were only in a restaurant and we saw the port at night, very beautiful. But, you are right though, I didn't see much of the city.

Jason Biggs: Can I join you?

AH: Sure, or will he bother you?

TVH: No, of course not.

JB: Thanks

TVH: I read that you have been rather sour about Sarah Michelle Gellar?

AH: You say things in a certain way, and then when these things are printed, it's not always accurate. I don't want to say any more about it.

TVH: And how was the last day on the Buffy set?

AH: Oh, just very sad. Seven years is a long time. A period of our lives, which suddenly ended. So we began to cry. Yes, it was a sad day.

JB: Would you like a hug?

AH: No.

JB: Do you want sit on my lap?

AH: No!

TVH: Would like a gummybear?

Both: Yeaaaah!!!!

TVH: Alyson, how are you going to make a living, now that the Buffy series has ended?

(Jason Biggs grabs the bag of gummybears and quickly runs off with it.)

AH: Jason, stop it!

JB: Sorry!

(He stops running and grins cheekily at Alyson, who immediately takes the bag from him.)

AH: Grrrr, men! What was the question?

TVH: I wanted to know, what you will do now? Is a guest appearance planned on Angel?

AH: There are no concrete plans at the moment. But I won't rule it out altogether. I would gladly work with Joss Whedon if the script is right. Who knows? One should never say never! I had a great time on Buffy. I met people there that I will hopefully be friends with for the rest of my life. Not to forget that I also met my future husband on the Buffy set. It was the best time of my life so far. It's not as if I could say 'Thank God, it's over!' That's not the case at all. I appreciate the experiences and what I learned during that time! It was great.

JB: Yes, that's right. I also loved the experiences which I had on the set of Buffy, even if I was never really there. I just couldn't deal with all the different egos there. That was just too much for me.

AH: Ha ha, so they had to cut out all scenes with Jason, because he didn't have the ego of the others.

Hmm. Confusion and brain ache. The idea that Alyson and Whedon might someday work together again used to thrill me. Then we get the 'my brilliant plans for season 7 would have changed the world and brought blissfull love and harmony into everyone's lives, leaving Willow and Tara to spend eternity together in complete euphoria -- if only that mean old Benson chick wouldn't have had the audacity to turn me down' comments...effectively cementing his identity as :joss . Any respect I might have still had for him found its way flushed out to the sea. I still hold that Whedon did some wonderful things -- the best in my eyes was bringing us Will and Tara in the first place. I'll give him that. But the good things accomplished were thrown into the back alley and beaten unmercifully the second he let that damned bullet fly. And now this twisting of history to suit his ego -- makes me want to :puke . My point in all this? I don't know. I've been typing so long I've forgotten. Anyone want a mocha?

Oh yeah, so anyway, I'm now wondering if this puts anyone in an awkward position. Does Alyson feel a little twinge at the idea of going back to work with :joss after hearing the comments he's made? Does this put strain on whatever relationship Alyson and Amber have? See? Confusion and brain ache. Clearly I've started to think too much about things which are none of my business. Is it just me?

AH: There are no concrete plans at the moment.
It's strange that Aly hasn't signed to do an ep given that she could spend more time with her fiancee. My guess is that the WB is spending the $$$ on an SMG guest shot. Aly is better off giving a no comment on the SMG thing given what she is saying is being misrepresented. Personally I hope that Aly doesn't work with Whedon again. I love Aly but won't watch anything by Joss Whedon even if she's in it. I hope Aly can parlay the hype from AP3 into new projects worthy of her talents IMHO.

Slayerverse.de has posted transcripts of the second and third parts of Aly's interview in German magazine TV Highlights.

Thanks again to serenity for checking the accuracy of the English translation that I did using an automated online translator.

Aly interview part 2

Here is the second part of the interesting interview with Alyson Hannigan and Jason Biggs from the current TV Highlights.

TVH: Now, your ass in American Pie 3. Does it play an important role?

JB: Interesting way to looking at things...yes, I think it's true. That's the secret formula for the success of the film.

AH: Be very careful! Jason has already sung a lot today. Soon he'll start again...

JB: Maybe, only no pressure girl! I need my inspiration. If you say something amusing, maybe I'll sing for you!

TVH: Now, we've made trouble for ourselves.

AH: Yes, definately.

JB: Thanks, but now we know the answer: it's my ass and my voice.

AH: That's much better than the voice which comes from your ass.

JB: Please, what? - the joke was good.

AH: I know, a point for myself!

TVH: Now, since we're clear on that subject and I have you both together, did you have a lot of fun making this continuation? Should I actually still say continuation?

AH: No, it's a trilogy.

JB: Yes, but what word do you use for the third part, without using one which sounds like Star Wars?

AH: Maybe 'Salary cheque'?

JB: Hey, another good joke!

TVH: I get the feeling that you have a lot of fun promoting the film, is that the trick?

AH: Yes, absolutely. We had a great time on the set with all three films, otherwise we wouldn't have continued to make them together.

JB: That's right, we could have made a whole film of our own just from the out-takes.

AH: I think that if we hadn't had so much fun, then the audience would have realised. Then the jokes wouldn't have been so well received.

TVH: And what were you doing in the scene under the table?

AH: To be honest, we had previously agreed on the fact that I fondle his feet.

JB: Yes, but it caused my legs to fly up in the air.

AH: So, later I only poked him in the knees but I had to watch out that I didn't get a black eye or a broken nose or that he didn't knock out any teeth with his big feet. He is so clumsy!

TVH: That's good to know! How long did it take you to shoot that scene?

AH: Two and a half days. I sat for two and a half days under the table, until the scene was in the can and the director was satisfied. It was very cramped and stuffy, particularly when we were joined by Eugene Levy (who plays Jim's father). There I was surrounded by big feet.

TVH: Why aren't Chris Klein, Mena Suvari or Shannon Elizabeth also in this film?

AH: Chris Klein did a theatre play in London, he couldn't be in it for scheduling reasons. So it wouldn't have made much sense to include Mena in the story.

JB: Also, Shannon couldn't do it, so the idea that she wants to seduce Jim right before the wedding, was changed.

TVH: How did your private life change after these three films?

JB: My life had already totally changed after the first film. That was my big movie break-through. The fuss was not as extreme after that.

AH: I agree. I already had a fanbase from Buffy, but after the success of the first part of American Pie, it was just unbelievable. I hadn't expected it when I started work on the first one.

TVH: Was it a blessing or a curse?

AH: For me there were only positive experiences. I am very proud of the fact that I appeared in this film. It's something which our generation will still remember in thirty years. It's the same with Buffy, both of them shaped the youth of today. Years later people will say: 'Oh that was a hit during my high school years!'

TVH: Even so, Alyson, I must ask you something, because I heard that you recently had serious problems with stalkers.

AH: Me? No, I haven't. Over the years there were a few unpleasant scenes, but so far luckily nothing that would require me to need bodyguards. No, Alexis had these problems.

TVH: What was the problem?

AH: Oh, it was really terrible. This woman turned out to be a real psychopath. Fortunately, it is it over now.

The third and last part follows tomorrow...

From Slayerverse.de:

Aly interview part 3

Here is the last part of the Aly interview from TV Highlights.

TVH: How did you actually get to know Alexis privately?

AH: Hmm, I had this golden rule: never get involved with another actor. And then I became friends with Alexis and went out to dinner with him. That was very silly of me, because then I went and totally fell in love and now I'm marrying him.

TVH: When did Alexis propose?

AH: Oh, that was a total surprise. We drove up north during the Christmas vacation.

JB: North? In California or to Canada?

AH: In California, Jason. Thanks.

JB: I want to make sure all the details are right. I don't the readers to think that he drove her to the North Pole and she had to say yes or she would have frozen to death.

AH: So, we drove to northern California. One evening we went to the ballet and Alexis had forgotten his jacket. He went back to the car to get it and returned with a ring. That was just great, I couldn't say no!

JB: Logical!

TVH: The engagement ring is very beautiful, very elegant.

AH: Yes, Alexis chose that. It really suits me, not too swanky and big. Not a ring for show-offs!

TVH: Will you invite Jason to the wedding?

AH: Jason is definitely on the "maybe list".

JB: What?

AH: Jason, it is only a small wedding.

JB: But I am only a small friend.

TVH: You can pair Jason up with one of the bridesmaids.

JB: Oh, good idea! Alyson, I'm single, I could meet some women.

AH: Well, you are engaged to yourself. No, I'll have to ask my love, Alexis.

TVH: So, you decide together?

AH: Yes, we got together and discussed everything. But there are so many things we have to think about. Suddenly you have to decide, who sits next to whom and what presents you would like. It's hard work.

TVH: Sounds like a lot of wedding stress?

AH: Yes, especially now that I'm out of the country. We try to co-ordinate everything by e-mail and fax. You know, we booked a wedding planner, who co-ordinates everything for us. And I hope that while I'm away everything doesn't get messed up. Somehow it all feels very strange. I would rather have everything already behind me, and I would prefer it if I was already married. I was never a woman, for whom it's the most important day of your life.

TVH: Has it been a little bit like deja vu that you just played a bride in the film?

AH: Yes, a little bit. Alexis had asked me to marry him just before the start of filming. Life sometimes has strange parallels.

TVH: Was the wedding ceremony strange to film?

AH: Well yes, during the scene of Michelle walking up the aisle to the altar, I felt that Alexis was missing. The wrong man was standing there!

TVH: So, what will you do differently at your own wedding?

AH: I'm completely determined to not invite Jason Biggs!!!

It's a crazy-maker, given that:joss is still praising Aly every chance he gets vice what he's said about both Amber and Charisma it makes us think more than we really ought to about how this is affecting their established off-screen friendships.

I appreciate the refusal to comment further on the Sarah issues; classy but still honest, like how she and Julie Benz handled their differences way back.

As to the proposal, a woman who appreciates classic romance and a guy swift enough to stage-manage little things like that, waht could be a better match ? Altho wasn't the previous story that he proposed during a picnic ? Hey, as long as they're happy...

Silly Jason. I guess he's an Aly fan too... hehe.

Choosing not to decide is still a choice.

Yeah. He usually cracks me up. In most interviews he makes it pretty clear that he's a huge Alyson fan. Anyone else notice that the boy can't stop touching Aly? I know they get along really well, but the gropey stuff seems like it could get old, and it really did look like he crossed a line & pissed her off when he alluded to Aly having an affair with him after she's married to Alexis. (This was mentioned in an AOL movie interview.) Treading on sacred ground there, buddy.:no

DrG: I have just discovered an e-mail that you sent me at the beginning of this month and I have edited my translation of part 1 of this interview to put through the corrections you pointed out. Thanks so much for helping me and apologies for the delay in getting this done. :)

In reply to your query, I do speak a bit of German, having holidayed in both Germany and Austria, but I don't read or write it very well.

Hey Daddykat,

How did Julie Benz and AH resolve their differences? All I know is that AH stated that JB was really mean to her when they worked together and she wouldn't want to work with her again.

Cool to hear they made up...do you have the details?
