Amber and Chris Golden's Ghosts of Albion

Postby drlloyd11 » Wed Oct 02, 2002 9:26 am

-from little willow

Christopher Golden and Amber Benson are hard at work on the script for a brand new original project for BBC online (and perhaps . . . other formats as well). The project, entitled GHOSTS OF ALBION, should launch in early 2003.

There is a "hungry ghosts of albion" that is interactive.. but not sure if it is related..

the definition of albion is

albion

England or Great Britain. Often used poetically.

Al"bi*on, n. [Prob. from the same root as Gael. alp a height or hill. ``It may have been bestowed on the land lying behind the white cliffs visible from the coast of Gaul. Albany, the old name of Scotland, means probably the ``hilly land.'' --I. Taylor.] An ancient name of England, still retained in poetry.

In that nook-shotten isle of Albion. --Shak.

Project? As in another comics, or something else, the BBC being a tv channel and all? Forgive me, not a native speaker and sometimes I missinterpret.

And jeeze *peeps into the Chance Premier and the OMWF Release Party threads* doesn't that girl ever stop to breath?

As it's BBC Online it suggests some kind of interactive game or something, at a guess, though it could be a short film shown as Multimedia or something.

BTW, Amber rules.

Well it said for 'BBC Online' so I'm guessing it could be something purely for their website.

Last year Jennifer Anniston was doing a comedy just for the web (not sure who for) so Amber could be putting together a show for the BEEB just to go on their website.

It's definately one to keep track of.

I have no idea, but this might even be a sort of "test" run for them. If it should turn out well (and there is no reason to think it might not and every reason to think it will) then the Beeb could offer them more opportunities either for BBC Online, Radio or TV.

I am glad to see that Amber is getting to do the sort of thing that she wants to. Having her onscreen is wonderful, but letting her develope stuff (for money!) is even better.

Great news and glad to see my TV licence is going somewhere other than Ground Force. :)

(Sorry Chris, I swore I would stop with the GF jokes!)

I actually read somewhere, and I can't for the life of me remember where, that this was a radio project. In which case, I'm sure it will be great. BBC Radio is second to none.

The BBC have a fairly recent interview with Chris, where he talks about working with Amber:

www.bbc.co.uk/cult/buffy/inprint/interviews/golden/page7.shtml

Some spoilers for 'Wilderness' ahead.....

Quote:
You just don’t have enough time for me to say all the good things about Amber I need to say. I just adore her. We’ve talked about working on a number of other projects together. She’s just a joy. She’s just the most genuine person I’ve met who works in California. Or in the Los Angeles area. So anything she wants to work on, I’d definitely do.

We had a lot of fun working on a second Willow and Tara. She’s very fond of Michelle [Trachtenberg] so we wrote a story where Willow and Tara go on the road with Dawn. It’s nice, because with the first one, for foolish reasons, they wouldn’t let us write them as lovers. People complained about that because, as usually happens, by the time the comic came out, they’d already kissed on the show. She’s already told people she was gay. But at the time we were doing the comic, even though Joss knew and all the writers knew, and it had been patently obvious to most people watching the show, they wouldn’t let us say it. It was infuriating, because then people would yell at us. People gave us a hard time as if we were shying away from it.

So it was nice to be able to portray them as in love. What I find really interesting is, sometimes it feels saccharine to write romance. Sometimes when you’re writing romance between two characters, it doesn’t feel quite real. Or it’s a bit too much. And I feel almost like, you can make those two characters as dewey-eyed in love and it would never be too much. I just love their relationship. So I had a great time, and she is such a talented writer.

[Willow] should have taken time out for a few minutes to slowly torture Xander for sounding like a Hallmark card on crack.

Watcher's Retreat? Hehe! I just love the names on these cons. Though, obviously, I can't make it... *sigh*

and btw, Still Water, love your sig.

So if this is a Radio project, I'm guessing it won't be avalible online? Because it might as I've that these things happened and... err, I'm just confused. If somebody can tell me whether it's likely to be downloadble or not, I'd be so greatful. :)

Edited to add: thanks for that Chris Golden bit! though I kinnda think it belongs in the Wildreness thread.

The BBC has done online audio dramas before. If you want to see an example, check out the Doctor Who story, "Death Comes to Time" - which, by the way, features a cameo appearance by ASH.

And what's this convention thingy in Burbank? LosCon is always held there over Thanksgiving weekend. Are they really going to do two cons back-to-back like that?

okay, I just have to say, is there anything Amber can't do? That girl is one of the most multitalented people I've ever known!

The BBC radio show sounds cool. I'm glad she gets to work with Chris again, as they really seem to enjoy doing projects together.

And dammit, I am just too far away from California. :(

Some new Amber info from Chris Golden.

From Buffy in attendence was Nicholas Brendon and Chris Golden.

I will more to say on that (it was very interesting), but he pased on some new amber info..

The project he and Amber are working on (ghosts of Abion) is a cool (in his words) multmedia/radio play/flash film idea they will be doing in the UK next month. Amber will be directing

If ii does well, they BBC may produce it for TV, and he made it seem like they will be working together more soon. Here is the interesting thing, the BBC aproached Amber and Him asking them to do some Buffy work and they pitched this back instead.

There is also a new Buffy xbox and ps2 game coming uut this summer and Golden promised it will be good this time. You can play as Buffy, Spike, Wilow(!) and "sid the dummy".. Amber Benson provides her voice and chris golden said there would eb some w/t in it.

Golden is done writing Buffy books, the last one, "Monster Island", will take place around the time of "flooded".

Umm, he had lots of opinions, which mostly served to confirm some "dreams" I have had.

More later, but it was fun to talk Buffy with him..

Later, I will tell you about the "faith In Prison" book he wanted to write.
