Chapter Twenty-two



Who am I kidding...it will never be enough...



The tears were blinding her as she ran until her lungs hurt...until she couldn't run any more. She sat down, pulled her knees into her chest, and sobbed uncontrollably.



Why is this happening now...why are you doing this? Please...please...can't I once - just once be happy?



Just then, Tara heard footsteps...someone was running towards her...fast! She looked up, expecting to see some vampire or demon closing in on her...after all, at least then - it would all be over...but instead, she saw one very beautiful, very out-of-breath Willow... still wrapped in the sheet off of her bed...



"Tara...." she said, panting...trying to catch her breath. "I'm sorry...whatever I did...I'm sorry..."



Oh God...she thinks it's her!



Tara could see that she'd been crying...



"Please don't leave me..." she begged...the flood gates finally opening...



Tara could not stand to see her in pain...she stood up and took her into her arms.



"Shhh...it's not you...it's m-me...I should h-have told you...they s-said they'd hurt you..."



Willow looked into Tara's eyes and saw fear...pure, unadulterated fear...whatever this was, it was scaring her to death...



"Who? Who is telling you this?" Willow demanded, sniffling.



Tara looked down, she was ashamed...ashamed to have to tell her that it was her family...her father and her brother, who had threatened to do such terrible things.



"M-my father...and m-my brother, Donny." she said, sheepishly.



"Your father...and your brother?! Why would they do something like that?"



"B-because...I'm evil." she sobbed. "I'm a d-demon."



Willow couldn't believe what she was hearing. This couldn't be happening...why would she say something like that?



"Baby...there's no way...you can't be!"



"It's true...and...t-that's why we can't b-be together..."



Finally, she said it. It was out there now...



Willow felt her heart jump into her throat...she felt like someone was squeezing the life out of her...did she just say that they couldn't be together?



"You don't mean that! It's not true! Baby...whatever it is...we can get through it together! I'm not going! I won't leave you! Wherever you go...I'll find you! I can't lose you!"



Tara couldn't take it anymore...there was no way that she could leave Willow...it might be selfish...but she just couldn't give up the one thing in her life that made life worth living...her Willow.



"We'll figure this out...together...okay? I'm gonna take care of you, baby..."



Tara looked into Willow's eyes...she loved her so much that it hurt...



"Together?" Tara asked, sniffling.



"Always, baby...always... Now come on...let's get you back to the room and we can talk about this and figure out what to do...and I can get some real clothes rather than this ever-so-stylish bed sheet!" Willow said, smiling at her lover.



Tara smiled. "...I don't k-know...I kinda l-like you in my sheets..."



"That's my girl!" Willow said, kissing her gently on the forehead...



The two walked off, their arms wrapped lovingly around each other's waists...ready to face the worst...come what may....

The two walked off, their arms wrapped lovingly around each other's waists...ready to face the worst...come what may....



Chapter Twenty-Three



Tara poked her head through the stairwell door...



"It's okay...the coast is clear..." she said, motioning to a bed-sheet clad Willow waiting in the stairwell.



Willow made a mad dash from the stairs to Tara's dorm room...Tara shutting the door behind them.



Willow ran over to the bed, plopping down onto the mattress...patting the spot next to her, motioning for Tara...



"Now start from the beginning..." Willow said, taking Tara's hand and pulling her down onto the bed next to her.



Tara took a deep breath and swallowed hard...this wasn't going to be easy... she had kept things buried for so long...



"It all s-started when I was just a baby...or that's what they told me anyhow...my mother...she was powerful...just like you. She and my father had been married for a few years before they had Donnie...and my father wanted another son. My mother desperately wanted a girl. She got p-pregnant with me. When I was born - my father was so m-mad, he said that she had used her magick to make sure that she had a girl instead of a boy, just to spite him. As soon as she brought me home from the hospital, the beatings started...he beat her every chance that he g-got...he said that she had summoned a demon t-to make her pregnant so that she could have me...the girl t-that she always wanted...he said that I was a demon-spawn..." Tara looked down, disgusted with herself...



Willow's temper was rising..."Men! They are so stupid sometimes with all that damned testosterone pumping through their veins...demon-spawn...that's ridiculous! He should have been happy just to have a healthy baby!"



"H-he said that my Mother had cursed the family...and that s-she had to pay... I remember the first time that I s-saw him hit her... I was so scared... t-the look in his eyes...I'd never seen anything so angry..."



"Oh baby..." Willow said, running her hand up and down Tara's back, trying to comfort her. "...you must have been so scared...I can't even imagine."



"H-he beat her so often...I kind of got used to it...Donnie did it, too... Daddy encouraged him." Tara took in a deep breath...trying to prepare herself to talk about something she'd never shared with anyone else...



"One night, I was helping to set the table, and Daddy yelled, and I accidentally dropped a plate. It broke into a hundred pieces on the floor. Daddy picked up the broom from the kitchen closet and started hitting me with it...he just kept hitting me and hitting me...and pretty soon, I was numb...I couldn't feel it any more...I could just hear the stick cracking as it made contact with my s-skin...my Mother heard me crying and rushed in...s-she tried to cast a protection spell...b-but Daddy hit her before she could complete it. He just kept hitting her and hitting her...and I wanted to help...but I couldn't...move...." Tara was gasping for breath...

"...there was blood everywhere...and I tried to wake her up...but she wouldn't...and there was this gurgling noise coming from her..." Tara was sobbing. She wanted to tell Willow everything...she had to.



"Daddy told me to get away from her, but I wouldn't. She was gasping for air...and...she touched her hand to my face, wiping away m-my tears...and she said she was so glad she'd made me...those were the last words she said to me...Daddy said it just proved it...I was a demon...she had made me with her magick. He and Donny burned the house down with Mama's body in it... they told everybody that she'd died in the fire..."



Willow's eyes were wide in disbelief..."Oh god, baby...I am so sorry...they just got away with it? Did you tell anybody?"



Tara shook her head, no. "T-they told me that if I told, I'd end up just like her...t-they told me I had to do what they said...I tried...I really tried...but when I didn't do things exactly as t-they wanted...they'd hit me..."



Willow was instantly furious. "I'll kill 'em! Those fucking bastards!" She got up, immediately searching the room for her clothing...



"B-but Willow, t-they were right...I...I am a demon...I h-hear the voices...they call to me...they called to me when w-we were in bed..."



"Listen to me...you are NOT a demon! ...and I'm going to prove it!" There was no stopping Willow when she got on a tangent like this..."...and they are going to pay for what they did." She said, matter of factly.



Tara had never seen this side of Willow...she was flattered that Willow wanted to protect her...but there was something else there...something dark...it scared her...it reminded her of home...

Whoa. Those updates were intense. I HATE Tara's family for putting her through that, but I'm worried what Willow might do. We all know that when Willow sets her mind to something with dark magic, not much can stop her.

Chapter Twenty-four



"W-where are you going?" Tara asked hesitantly...she couldn't bare to be away from Willow right now... and she hoped that Willow would understand...



Willow pulled her jeans on, stumbling slightly as the bottom of one leg got caught under her foot..."Research...the Magic Box...there's something I remember about a spell and the goddess Thespia....I was gonna use it once to help out Buffy by locating all of the demonic forces in the area...wanna come with?"



Tara breathed a sigh of relief..."Oh yes."



Willow took her hand, entwining their fingers as they hurried out the door.



Later on, at the Magic Box...



"...here it is! I knew it was here somewhere..." Willow said, enthusiastically pointing at the book...



Tara ran to her side...



"...we can conjure the godess Thespia and ask her to show us the demons within Sunnydale...it should even show the different races of them and stuff...it'll be really cool!"



Willow looked at Tara, it was obvious how uncomfortable she was feeling...



"...I mean...it will be all cool and stuff...but the main thing is that it will show us if you are really a demon or not...which I already know is so NOT!"



"...b-but what if it is true...what if it s-shows that I am a..."



Willow took her hand, reassuringly..."...You're not...and even if you were...it wouldn't matter to me...nothing will change us baby...nothing! You hear me? I love you forever...and we're going to have a long and happy life together...log house out in the woods...couple of kid..." Willow caught herself...she didn't want to jinx the dream...



We did have the same dream!



The familiar crooked smile spread across Tara's beautiful face...she squeezed Willow's hand...



"Yeah?" she asked.



"Definitely."



"W-what are we going to need to d-do this?"



"I think that I have most of the stuff - we just need to swing by my room and pick it up...then we can head back over to your place and put an end to this once and for all."



They gathered up the book and headed out the door...



"Are you sure w-we're ready for this? I-I mean...conjuring a godess and all...that's pretty big stuff..."



Willow smiled..."we're ready."



Willow slid her key into the lock on her and Buffy's dorm room door... she noticed that the door was already unlocked...



"Buff?" she said, poking her head inside...



"Hey." Buffy said. The Slayer was sitting cross-legged on her bed, psychology book tucked safely in the crux of her knees...



"Hey...sorry...didn't mean to interrupt your studying and all..."



"No! Really...that's okay!" She said, slamming the book shut and gingerly sitting up...anything was better than studying...school had never been Buffy's favorite subject. It all seemed so trivial...what with being the Slayer and all...



"So what's up?"



Tara stood waiting in the hallway, her eyes turned down to the ground...



"Tara? Hey...don't just stand there in the hallway...come on in!" Buffy said, trying to make her feel more comfortable. Being the Slayer...she could smell fear...and Tara was loaded with it.



Tara reluctantly walked into the room...still avoiding eye contact with Buffy...



"So what's going on? You guys look like somebody just ruined your best broomstick or something..." she said, trying to be funny...



Willow and Tara weren't laughing...



"...or not." Buffy said, trying to recover.



"It's kind of ... c-complicated."



"Yeah...complicated." Willow added...looking at Tara, she could see the worry in her eyes, but she also knew that Buffy, of all people, would understand...after all...she and Angel...



"We should tell her, Tara...she'll understand...she's been through this before."



"I-I don't know, Will..."



"Hello?! Right here listening? Look...whatever it is...I promise that I'll help however I can. Okay?"



Willow looked to Tara for the answer. The blonde nodded her head, yes.



"Ok...there's not really an easy way to put this...because if there was, I would...but there isn't...so here's the deal..." Willow took a deep breath to steady her nerves "...Tara's father beat her mother to death for having Tara because he wanted a boy and he said her mother used magick to make her instead and then he and her brother, Donny burnt the house down and they beat her all of the time and treated her like some kind of slave and told her she was a demon and that she'd end up the same way as her mother and...so now we're here 'cause I found this spell...well, it isn't really a spell...more like a way to conjure the goddess Thespia to show us all of the demons in Sunnydale...and see if she's one of them...but I'm sure she's not...but I'm gonna do it anyhow -so she knows for sure..." Willow grin.



"Did you say all of that in one breath? 'Cause if you did - I'm really impressed! That's got to be the longest run-along sentence I've ever heard..." Buffy said.



"Um...you mean run-on?" Tara added.



"Yeah - that's what I meant...run-on."



Suddenly, Willow's story finally sunk in...



Oh God. Will...I hope, for your sake, she isn't...



Buffy looked at her friend. She could see the depth of the love that Willow felt for Tara...and she prayed that Tara's father had been wrong...she knew the pain that came with loving a demon...she knew it all too well....



"Tara...I'm sorry about what they did...to you, and your Mom..."



Tara nodded.



"See...I told you she'd understand!" Willow said, smiling.



"Whatever you guys need...I'm here for you."



Tara looked at the Slayer... she was tough to read, which made it even more difficult for her to trust her... but something told her that she was sincere...



"Thank you." Tara said...no stuttering this time.



Buffy got her first look at Tara's deep blue Sapphire eyes...how calm...comforting...and tranquil they were. She envied Willow just a little...to be able to fall asleep every night gazing into those endless oceans of blue must be wonderful...



"No problem..." Buffy said, placing her hand on Tara's shoulder.



"Hey now...none of the touchy-feely there, Buff...that's my job!" Willow joked...but not really.



"She's all yours, Will...even a blind Slayer could see that..." she said, reassuring her friend.



"Yes...I am." Tara said, wrapping her arm around Willow's waist lovingly.



Willow stood up straight, puffing her chest out like a cardinal trying to impress it's mate...



...she IS mine...and I am so proud to call her mine...

My gosh. Poor Tara, all she's been through....



But go Will! Tara can really see the depth of her love and that has to be very reassuring for her.



But, the darkness she senses in Willow must be scary. I hope they're able to get through this without too much damage to their relationship.

Awwww. Tara's father and brother are sorry excuses for human beings. Poor Tara.



Doesn't Tara's dumb father know that the man determines the sex of the baby? Well, this shows his eigth grade education.



The second update is sweet, and I am glad Willow will help Tara get through this.

Chapter Twenty-five



"Okay...so this Thesprian conjuring thing..." Buffy started.



"Thespia, Buff...she's a goddess..." Willow corrected, gently.



"That's what I said...Thespia...so how can I help with all of this?"



"Well...I just need to gather up a few things...and then, if you could just stand by and make sure that we're not disturbed..."



"No disturbing...I can handle that...no problem!"



"Cool...thanks, Buff."



Buffy could see the look of genuine gratitude in Willow's eyes...not so much for her making sure that no one interfered...but more so for her understanding and support. That meant more to her than anything else...



Within a few minutes...Willow had gathered everything that they needed to start the conjuring...



Willow arranged the hemp twine on the floor in a rectangular shape, each corner being held by a type of crystal or stone...amethyst, rose quartz, blue topaz, hematite...she took the blue quartz sand and ground it to a fine powder with her mortar and pestle...handing a handful to Tara...



"Okay...this area within the twine represents this room...in order for this to work, we have to work together and ask the goddess Thespia to show us the way....k?"



Tara nodded.



The two Wiccans sat across from each other, one on the north, and one to the south of the conjuring arena. Willow started the incantation...



"Thespia, goddess of darkness, keeper of all things just and true...guide our way tonight..."



"Accept our plea, reveal to us those evil in our presence..."



Tara and Willow each blew their portion of sand across the conjuring arena...



"N-nothing's happening...m-maybe it didn't work..."



"No! Wait..." Willow said, pointing at the rectangle of twine...

a bluish glowing mist eminated from each corner of the rectangle...slowly filling the arena within..



"What do you see? Is there anything there?" Buffy asked.



"Shhhh...do not disturb...remember?!"



"Sorry, Will..."



"There's nothing here but mist..."



"Maybe w-we missed something..." Tara suggested...



"No, baby...don't you see? There's nothing here but the mist...no other lights...that means there's no demons within the confines of this room..."



"You m-mean I'm n-not a d-demon?"



"No...you are most certainly NOT a demon!" Willow said, breathing a sigh of relief.



A myriad of emotions overtook Tara all at once...happiness that she new she was free to be with Willow...sadness because of all of the pain she'd endured over the years believing that she was a demon...pain at the thought of how her family had hurt her...and loss...over the death of her mother...it all was a bitter-sweet pill to swallow...and she started to tremble and sob...



Willow rushed to her side, enveloping her in her arms...



"It's okay, baby...I've got you. Nobody's ever going to hurt you again...everything's going to be fine..."



"I-I'm sorry...it's just so much to take in..."



"I know...honey...I know."



Buffy walked over to her friends, she felt like an intruder - but she had to ask...



"So it's all okay, right? She's not a demon?"



"She's not a demon...but no - it's not alright." The anger was welling up inside Willow again...anger for the years of pain that they had so unfairly inflicted upon her Tara...her Everything... "I want them to pay, Buffy. I want them to pay for what they did to her...to us."



"P-please...let's just let this g-go...it's over." Tara said, in between sniffles...



"It won't be over until they get what they deserve." Willow said coldly.



"So what do you suggest?" Buffy asked.



"I've got a plan..."
