Love that Willow calls Tara a seductress and that this wasn't in her plans today. Definitely a :drool -worthy update.

Ariel – Yay for your dibs!

WOW!!! Damn it! The needle of my Hot-o-Meter swung to the right and BROKE!!! That is all your fault!!! (But it was worth it!)

I’m terribly sorry. Please send me the bill for the repairs.

Also love the humor between our girls, them getting more comfortable together. The humor in their relationship is something I’ve always loved and you do a beautiful job capturing it in your story.

I’m glad that’s coming through. I think it’s important to showcase that part of their relationship since we didn’t necessarily get to see it on the show.

Let me know if you’d like a beta, I’d be happy to support such a great story!!!

That would be fantastic. I’d love it and appreciate it. PM me if you’re still interested. And thanks for the feedback.

Laragh
Hehe I'd forgotten about the sexy-cliffhanger that was the last chapter. Goodie :)

Yeah, I thought most people would’ve since it’ had been so long since I’d posted.

Wow. Well. I'm broken. That certainly beat whatever other plans they might've had for the day Great job, really well-written, believable, descrptive. You did good!! :grin

Thanks. Terribly sorry to have broken you. Lol. Glad you enjoyed it.

Finey_McFine
So glad you are sticking with this story, I was a little worried there for awhile...what with no update in a few weeks and all. But it was WELL worth the wait and bravo on the smut!! :wtkiss

I know. I’m sorry it took so long to update. I really am going to try to stick to my schedule though from now on. I’m glad it was worth the wait though. And that the sexy rolling around was worth the read.

Have I told you how much I love this fic??? :luv :luv

Aww thank you.

BTW...MUCH better usage of the "your shirt" line!

Didn’t know if anyone would catch that but I thought I’d turn a load of crap into something quite pleasurable.

Big yay for hot yummyness...

Glad you liked it.

I'm glad that Buffy had few working brain cells and didn't interrupt those two love birds...

I wasn’t about to do that to you all again. Would’ve been way too mean. No interruptions here. Thanks for reading.

WillowRulez -
That was... uhm... yeah...

I hope you didn’t get a concussion.

Okay, I'm back
Another incredible update! I can't even find words to describe it LOL. The entire time I was just waiting for Buffy (and Dawn) to walk into the house though - and you didnt disappoint

Glad you weren’t disappointed. And no Buffy and Dawn disruptions. At least not for that update.

Can't wait for more! I hope Buffy or Faith will somehow let W/T know that they were overheard

Well I can’t let it slide. But we’ll see. Thanks for commenting.

indigokane -
spectacular update. very sexy. keep up the great work!!!

Thanks for commenting. And I’m glad you liked it. I hope you enjoy this next bit.

Love that Willow calls Tara a seductress and that this wasn't in her plans today.

I think that Tara could pull of the seductress thing. I’m not going to say any more than that though because my mind will start wandering to the land of a seducing Tara and I have to post this update.

Definitely a :drool -worthy update.

Thanks. I’m glad you liked it.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Summary- Totally AU - Tara meets Willow - the happy bumblings of falling in love - I'm not too good at this summary thing.
Notes: My apologies to all of you who read the last chapter with the huge chunk missing before I could fix it. I’m really going to try to keep on these updates better. Things are settling down I think. I'm going to try to do at least an update once a week. This is a short one but it's the morning after so you can't go wrong. So without further ado…

Chapter Nineteen

Tara could see the morning daylight creeping into the room from behind her eyelids, signaling it was time for her to get up. Stretching, she felt a set of arms tighten around her from behind, soft kisses laid upon her shoulder blades. She smiled as she remembered the amazing night she’d spent with Willow and snuggled further back into the redhead’s arms with a sigh.

“Are you awake?” Willow softly asked, kissing her shoulder one last time.

“Yeah,” Tara answered as she rolled over and wrapped her arms around the other girl. She smiled when her eyes meet Willow’s and pulled their bodies tighter together, relishing in the contact of skin on skin. “I’m sorry. Have you been awake long?”

“No, not really,” Willow fibbed. She’d been laying there for the better part of an hour, just enjoying having the blonde so close, remembering the events of previous evening with a smile.

‘Good thing Buffy didn’t come home during the round in the kitchen,’ she thought with a smile.

“What’s so funny?” Tara asked as she caught the look of mirth on the redhead’s face.

“Nothing. Just thinking I was glad Buffy didn’t decided to make one of her famously ill-timed appearances last night while we were in the kitchen,” Willow giggled. “Otherwise she’d never be able to look at that counter the same.” Tara laughed along with her, remembering the odd position they’d found themselves in the night before. Neither could remember how they’d gotten on the counter or how they’d come to be so tangled in each other but it had felt too good to question at the time.

“Did you hear her come in last night?” Tara asked.

“No. We were kind of busy though,” Willow smirked. Tara smiled back at her before placing a soft kiss on her lips. The kiss went on for a few moments, gradually becoming more and more passionate when it was interrupted by the insistent ringing of Willow’s cell phone from her nightstand. Tara smiled at the redhead as she pulled away.

“Hey! I was just about to get my sexy on,” Willow pouted.

“Don’t you want to answer that?” Tara asked, nodding towards the persistent ringing.

“Not really,” Willow answered as the phone stopped ringing. She rolled onto the blonde, her lips fluttering up and down the blonde’s neck as she did, making Tara giggle at the ticklish sensation. They were immediately interrupted once more though as the phone began ringing again. “Damn it,” Willow grumbled.

“Maybe you should answer it,” Tara said, earning another pout from Willow as she rolled away and reached for her battered Blackberry. Noticing her colleague’s number on the screen she sat up with her back to Tara.

“Hello?” she answered. Tara listened just long enough to make sure everything was ok before the pale expanse of Willow’s naked back was too much of a distraction. She quickly checked the clock on the far wall, noticing she still had time before she had to head home and get ready for work, before sliding closer to the redhead, sitting up behind her and wrapping her arms around her slim torso. Willow turned her head slightly to smile at the blonde before continuing her conversation. Tara smiled back and rested her chin on the redhead’s shoulder, slowly moving her hands gently over Willow’s stomach in slow, teasing circles. The blonde watched as Willow leaned further back into her but kept talking. Deciding to up the ante Tara tilted her head forwards and left a trail of soft kisses from the edge of Willow’s shoulder to her neck. Willow seemed to relax even further, completely oblivious to the seduction Tara was performing. Leaving her lips at the base of Willow’s neck, she moved her hands under the thin sheet covering the redhead’s lap and teasingly ran her fingertips over Willow’s upper thighs.

Willow stiffened, her body instantly aware of what Tara’s wandering hands were leading to and reached her free hand back for the blonde, entwining her fingers in the blonde’s tresses as Tara’s lips attached to her neck, just below her ear, softly nipping as her hands moved from a teasing touch to firmly grabbing the redhead’s thighs and pushing them apart. Willow’s breath hitched as Tara’s hand made their way up her inner thighs.

“Hey Sam, can I call you back?” Willow asked, her head thrown back on the blonde’s shoulder, eyes closed, skin flushed. Tara smiled as she heard the muffled voice on the other side of the phone protest and Willow sigh in a mixture of frustration with her co-worker’s timing and impatience with Tara’s teasing hands. “Really, I don’t know why we can’t talk about this later,” Willow argued again, tightening her grip on the blonde locks in her left hand as Tara brushed her middle finger slowly through Willow’s center, gently teasing the lips there as she felt the redhead get even wetter than she already was. Willow’s breath hitched and she bit her bottom lip to keep the moan that was building from escaping her mouth as she held the phone in a death grip in her right hand. Tara knew she should stop and give the redhead a break. But she also knew she was running out of time and would soon have to actually start her work day with impatient, angry clients. A little pick-me-up now would do wonders for her mood.

Having made her decision she resumed her oral attack on Willow’s neck as she slid her right hand up the redhead’s torso, cupping her breast there, her left hand sliding further into the copious wetness between the slender girls thighs, finding the redhead’s clit there begging for attention. Despite the fact that her lips were clamped shut, a heady moan escaped at the new sensation. Tara quietly giggled as she heard the voice on the phone ask if Willow was ok.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just um… I…” Willow’s sentenced trailed off as she felt two of the blonde’s fingers slide into her, her thumb still strumming the redhead’s clit. Tara smiled at the shudder she felt pass through the slender girl and increased her ministrations, moving her fingers faster as her mouth continued its assault.

“Sam I’m sorry but I really can’t talk right now. I’ll – oh God! – I’ll stop by your office on my way in this morning.” And with that she hung up, tossing her phone onto the floor. “Oh fuck Tara! That feels so good,” she said, her hips rolling in time with the blonde’s fingers. Tara moved her lips from the redhead’s neck up to her ear, biting the lobe as she whispered words of encouragement. It didn’t take long for Willow’s body to go rigid as her orgasm overtook her in a symphony of whimpers and sighs after her initial scream to the blonde behind her that she was going to come.

Tara placed a few soft kisses along Willow’s temple and wrapped her arms protectively around her as the redhead sagged back into her. She leaned back allowing the redhead to lay down next to her and held her close as Willow’s breathing slowly returned to normal, her eyes eventually opening to meet Tara’s.

“That was so bad,” she said, closing her eyes once more for a moment, only to reopen them when she felt the bed shift and Tara move away. She looked up to see the blonde sitting on the edge of the bed, her back to the redhead as she grabbed at the pile of clothes they’d made on the floor the day before, trying to pick hers out to get dressed.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Willow asked as she sat up and reached for the blonde.

“N-Nothing,” Tara said, standing up before Willow could reach her and quickly pulling her underwear and shorts up her legs at the same time. ‘Bad?’ Tara thought, feeling her heart drop into her stomach. She hadn’t expected that. She’d thought with all the vocalization coming from Willow that she’d done a decent job pleasing the redhead. Apparently she was wrong. ‘Not the first time that’s happened though. God Tara!’

“Tara?” Willow asked, genuinely confused at the change in the blonde’s demeanor. “Are you ok?” she asked as she rose up off the bed, wrapping the sheet around her as she went, and moved towards the blonde.

“Y-Yeah. I’m f-fine,” Tara answered, keeping her back to the redhead as she quickly pulled her shirt over her head. “I j-just realized h-how late it is. I h-have to get to w-w-work.” ‘God Tara, could you stutter anymore,’ she berated herself.

“Hey wait,” Willow said, reaching out for the blonde again, placing a hand on the other girls shoulder to turn her around. Tara kept her head down, her face curtained by her hair. Willow took another step forward and cupped the blonde’s chin, forcing Tara’s eyes to meet her own. The look on the blonde’s face instantly made her heart wrench. Tara glanced at Willow for a second, before averting her eyes again, looking like they would overflow with tears at any second.

“Tara what is it? What’s wrong?” Willow asked again, wanting to pull the blonde into a comforting hug but afraid she would be rebuffed. “Please, just talk to me. Did I do something? Because if I did I’m sorry.”

“No!” Tara’s eyes instantly widened as they met Willow’s and she vehemently shook her head. “No! You d-didn’t d-do anything wrong,” she said, knowing Willow wouldn’t believe her with the way she was stuttering. She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before opening them to see Willow standing there, concern etched onto her face. “Y-You’re not the o-one that should be apologizing.”

“But you didn’t do anything wrong,” Willow said, stepping towards the blonde.

“N-No I d-did. I sh-shouldn’t have… I mean… I’m just s-sorry… about the ph-phone and… everything,” Tara said, staring at the floor again.

“No, Tara don’t apologize. So I may have some explaining to do to Sam when I go to work but I don’t really care. I’ll think of something to tell him. I just say I had a migraine or something. It’s no big deal,” Willow said, reaching out to grab the blonde’s hands in hers, squeezing them once when Tara didn’t try to pull away. “Besides, I warned him in the beginning that I couldn’t talk. He was the one that wanted to stay on the phone. He’s lucky he didn’t hear more because I definitely could’ve given him an ear full.” Willow smiled, hoping the joke would break the blonde but it didn’t. She just stared down at her feet, her hair hiding the emotions passing across her face. “Tara come on. Talk to me.”

“I j-just…” Tara looked up into Willow’s pleading green eyes and felt her shoulders sag even further under the weight of her humiliation. She sighed and stepped away from the redhead, moving back towards the bed and gingerly taking a seat on the edge. Willow cautiously followed her, sitting as close as she could without touching the blonde, waiting for her to continue.

“Was it r-really that bad?” Tara finally asked, wringing her hands in her lap.

“Tara, I told you it was no big deal. Even if Sam were to figure out what actually was going on, which I don’t think he’d be able to because he’s kind of naïve, he wouldn’t bother me about it or anything.”

“N-No, not that,” Tara said, mortified that Willow was going to actually make her say it. "I m-mean... when you s-said it w-was b-bad... did you..." She trailed off as her eyes finally met Willow's and a immediate look of realization consumed the redhead's face.

“Oh God! No! No! No! No! Tare, no that’s not at all what I meant,” Willow said, reaching for Tara’s hands. “I was just teasing you, you know about doing that whole having you’re way with me when I was talking to one of the partners at work. That that was naughty of you. I should’ve said that, not bad. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that the sex was bad. No! No! Not at all! That was amazing! Like core shaking, world shattering, holy shit amazing! Really, I didn’t mean it the way it sounded and I’m so sorry it came out that way. I should’ve explained. Or better yet, not have said anything at all. But you know me. Stuff just pops out of my mouth. Like I don’t even know what I’m saying. And-” Willow’s babble was cut short as Tara, realizing she’d made a big deal out of nothing, pressed her lips to the redhead’s to stop the wave of words coming out her mouth. Tara pulled away, giving the redhead a meek smile and pressed her forehead against the other girls’.

"I'm sorry. I sh-shouldn't have made the assumption," Tara said, her eyes drifting down to their fingers entertwined in Willow's lap.

"No it's ok. I'm sorry. That was just stupid of me to say. But please don't think that the last eighteen hours were anything short of amazing. And if we can just stop talking for a few minutes, I'd be happy to show you just how incredibly grateful I am for your undivided attention," Willow said with a smile as she kissed the blonde again. Tara allowed their lips to mesh for another moment before gently pulling away.

"As much as I'd love that, I have to get home and get showered if I want to get to work on time," Tara said, leaving a quick peck on Willow's lips as she stood up, knowing if she stayed near the redhead, she'd never get to her office.

"Stupid adult responsibilities," Willow pouted as she grabbed her clothes and followed the blonde as she left the room and headed down the hall, pulling her sweats on as she trotted down the stairs. "Well will you call me later?"

"Definitely," Tara said as she reached the front door and turned to face the redhead.

"And we're ok right?" Willow asked, concern overtaking her face once more.

"Yes Will. We're fine. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"

"No, no, no. No more apologies. You say we're fine, I say we're fine too," Willow smiled as she wrapped her arms around Tara and kissed the blonde's forehead.

"Ok. Now can you give me a ride home?"

"Absolutely," Willow said as she pulled her t-shirt over her head and slipped on a pair of flip flops by the door. "Come on." She grabbed her keys and opened the door, pulling Tara out behind her only to stop when she saw the blonde's car parked in the driveway. "Wait a minute. How in the hell did your car get here? Did it miss you last night and drive itself over?"

"It's never done that before," Tara said with a shrug as she walked towards her little blue Civic and noticed the note stuck to her windshield.

Figured you'd need this to get to work. I'll wait until a more appropriate time to pick on you about your sleepover later.
Faith
P.S. I packed a bag of clothes and bathroom stuff. It's in the back seat.

Tara smiled at the note, feeling Willow's arms wrap around her as she finished.

"Well I guess I have a few minutes to spare," Tara said, glancing at the redhead over her shoulder.

"Hmm. Shower?" Willow suggested, wagging her eyebrows. Tara just smiled and opened the car door, grabbing the duffle bag Faith had left there.

"Lead the way," she said with a smile.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.

Naughty, teasing, seductress Tara. :drool Her burst of insecurity was kinda cute in an odd sort of way, but I'm glad it got sorted out quickly. Faith is a really good friend.

Yay for regular updates! I need my weekly fix!!

Ummm, the morning after very, very sweet. :blush You are correct, you just can't go wrong with morning after snuggles! Oh and totally hot sex too!! :drool

I have to say though, that I sometimes feel bad for W/T in general. They are the absolute queens of the misread signals and awkward misunderstandings, lol. I hope that one day they'll finally grow out of it! :wink

Great update! Next week can not come soon enough!

Yay for great update-y goodness... I liked their morning after snugglies... I'm glad that Willow quickly corrected Tara's misread "bad" comment... Faith really is a good friend. I hope she doesn't tease Tara too much... I hope Buffy has some sense not to give Willow a third degree about Willow's night with Tara...

hi Jessica,

I like this story a lot. I like the way you're developing the relationship, misunderstandings and all.

I did notice the missing part - I kept thinking I just wasn't concentrating or something - but at least it shows I'm an attentive reader! Thanks for sorting it out quickly.

Looking forward to the next part.

Awww, that was a sweet update, mostly. Tara's insecurities must run really deep, no wonder if she has been told, one way or another, before that sex with her was bad. Am glad that Willow and Tara talked about it though, it was heart-wrenching to see Tara suffer like that.
I'll wait until a more appropriate time to pick on you about your sleepover later.

Hi Jessica,

Hey, we're beyond repairing the old HOT-O-METER!!! I think we're at the Industrial Strength Replacement cost level! *smirk* I'll definitely send that bill!

Love the waking up, sooo tender in the beginning and "skin to skin" contact just hits me so strongly!

Also loved Tara's naughty teasing while Willow's on the phone; real and really SEXY!!! Definitely, Willow 'had her sexy on' then ending . . . yep! That cold shower will help me wake up!

And yeah, I'll PM you - been traveling for 11 out of 12 days and I've been dead, plus intermittent internet craziness on the road!

She is rather drool worthy isn't she?

Her burst of insecurity was kinda cute in an odd sort of way, but I'm glad it got sorted out quickly. Faith is a really good friend.

It was a tiny misunderstanding. I wanted to leave it at that. And yes, Faith is a great friend.

I've already disappointed... So sick of real life crap getting in the way. I'm really going to try though. I know I keep saying that but come mid-June I am quiting my second job so hopefully things will be easier.

Ummm, the morning after very, very sweet. :blush You are correct, you just can't go wrong with morning after snuggles! Oh and totally hot sex too!! :drool

They are adorable aren't they?

I have to say though, that I sometimes feel bad for W/T in general. They are the absolute queens of the misread signals and awkward misunderstandings, lol. I hope that one day they'll finally grow out of it! :wink

I don't think it would be a W/T story without a minor misunderstanding or two. Thanks for reading and leaving the feedback.

I liked their morning after snugglies...

Those are the best. Well aside from hot sex.

Faith really is a good friend. I hope she doesn't tease Tara too much...

She is. And no, it won't be too bad. Thanks for reading.

Laragh - Morning snuggles and Faith's uber-awesomeness seem to be highly regarding in this update. I just feel like this is who Faith had the potential to become and I would've loved to have seen her interact with Tara on a friendly manner as two outsiders within the Scooby gang. Thanks for reading.

wayland - Hi Clare.

I like this story a lot. I like the way you're developing the relationship, misunderstandings and all.

It wouldn't be a relationship without some minor misunderstandings. But I'm glad you like the story and that I am doing a satisfactory job of developing it. Thanks for reading (and being such an attentive reader at that).

Thanks. Morning after... you can't go wrong.

Tara's insecurities must run really deep

On the show, yes and while I've made this version of Tara, a little more outgoing and confident, she's still Tara. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Can we possibly set something up on an installment plan? That would be great.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading.

Notes: Special thanks to my fabulous new beta Ariel for helping me out. I appreciate it more than I can say. Quite an angsty chapter. So I apologize in advance. Thanks and enjoy.

Chapter Twenty

Tara smiled to herself, humming along to an unnamed tune, as she reviewed the changes to the civic center that had been sent to her. It was a little after one and she'd been pleased that she had been left alone in her office for most of the day. In fact, aside from an impromptu five minute meeting she’d had with one of the partners, no one had even spoken to her. With all this free time, she would normally be powering through one project after another. Today though, she couldn’t seem to stay focused as thoughts of a certain redhead danced through her mind.

‘Willow… Willow’s smile… Willow’s eyes…Willow’s laugh… Willow’s lips… pressed against yours… sliding down your neck… Willow’s hands… touching every available inch of skin on-’

“Tara!” The blonde literally jumped in her seat as she heard her name called from her office doorway. She looked up, surprised to have been caught so off guard and saw Julie standing there, staring at her.

“Oh sorry Julie. I was totally somewhere else,” she said, a slight blush rising on her cheeks as she pulled herself back to her desk and appeared to be engrossed in work.

“I’ll say. I called your name like three times.”

“I’m sorry. What’s up?”

“I just wondered if you had any notes about the project I sent you on Friday?” Julie asked, a look of skepticism crossing her face as she observed Tara’s behavior.

“Oh right!” Tara said, focusing on her computer, trying to located the file her colleague had sent her. “I did look it over briefly but I wanted to go over it again in depth before I sent you the information.”

“Ok. It’s just that I have to turn it in today,” Julie said, her forehead lined with worry.

“Can you give me like thirty minutes?” Tara asked.

“Sure,” Julie answered with a nod before turning away from the door.

‘Ok Tara focus! Stop thinking about Willow and work!’ she berated herself as she started to comb through Julie’s assignment, a sense of guilt building in her chest at the thought of letting her friend down.

Forcing herself to pay attention, she studied the information as quickly and thoroughly as she could before making a few notes about two or three minor changes. Then she sent it back to Julie with an apology about the delay.

Using her new found focus she quickly switched over to one of her own projects, reviewing it in its entirety before starting to make some of the bigger changes that were needed. It was only fifteen minutes later that she was interrupted by her cell phone vibrating across the desk.

“Damn it,” she sighed, thrown out of her groove at the disturbance. She reached for the phone, looked to see who was calling and then, seeing it was Faith, quickly answered.

“Hey, what’s up?” she asked, cradling the phone between her cheek and shoulder as she turned back to her work.

“Hey, are you busy?” Faith asked.

“Kind of. What’s up?”

“I just wondered if I could catch you for dinner tonight?”

“So you can heckle me?” Tara asked with a smirk.

“Not exactly. I mean there may be some heckling but I was just hoping to talk to you about something.”

“Is everything ok?” Tara asked, turning away from her work.

“Yeah. So can we do dinner?” Faith asked.

“Sure,” Tara answered, still leery at her friend’s evasiveness.

“Great. How about six o’clock? At Martin’s?”

“I’ll meet you there,” Tara agreed as she hung up, hoping everything was ok with her best friend. She put the phone down on her desk and just started at it, her concentration completely shot. She stood up and made her way out of her office, stopping at Julie’s desk as she made her way towards the elevators.

“Everything ok?” she asked, relieved when the other girl looked up at her with a genuine smile.

“Yep. Thanks for looking that over.”

“Sure, anytime,” Tara said, smiling back. “I was just going to run across the street to grab a coffee and one of those delicious cookies at the bakery. You want to come?”

“Definitely. I’m in need of some sugar big time. I can’t focus at all. I’ve practically fallen asleep on my desk four times today,” she said as she stood up and followed Tara to the elevator banks.

“Sorry again about the project,” Tara said as the two girls stepped into to the empty elevator car that had just arrived and Tara punched the button for the first floor. “I didn’t mean to take so long to get back to you.”

“No it’s ok. I know you’ve got your own stuff going on. I appreciate you looking at it though,” Julie said, shrugging off Tara’s apology.

“Yeah, I’ve had a hard time focusing lately.”

“Is everything ok?” Julie asked as they arrived to first floor and the elevator doors opened to the lobby.

“Yeah,” Tara said, stepping out and flowing Julie outside the building. “I just haven’t been in the best frame of mind lately to pay attention to design you know?”

“Is something going on at home?” Julie asked as she and Tara crossed the busy street with a group of other business people.

“Kind of,” Tara answered with a smile. She thought of Willow, picturing the slender redhead, lying next to her the night before, eyes closed, hair fanned out on the pillow beneath her, sound asleep. She smiled at the memory and almost tripped on the curb as the two girls reached the other side of the street.

“Whoa! Are you ok?” Julie asked, reaching out to steady the blonde by the elbow.

“Yeah, sorry,” Tara said, blushing slightly as she regained her balance. “See? Can’t focus lately.”

“I can see that. What’s going on?” Julie asked again, her concern getting the better of her.

“Nothing, I just…” Tara trailed off as they reached to door to the bakery and entered. Her brain once again was flooded with images of Willow and she smiled. “I met someone.”

Julie stared at her, not sure she'd heard right. But when she saw the smile on Tara's face and knew it was true.

“Really?” she smiled at the blonde. “Well that’s great.” Tara just nodded, stepping forward in the winding line in front of them.

“So that all makes total sense now,” Julie said from behind her.

“What makes sense?”

“You lately. Walking around with the goofy smiles and the dreamy look in you eyes. You never pay attention in meetings and you’ve been actually leaving the office on time everyday voluntarily. You’re getting laid. God, so obvious I don’t know why I didn’t see it before now.”

“Julie!” Tara warned her friend, noticing a few stares that had been thrown their way at the ‘laid’ comment. “Keep it down.”

“So tell me all about it. What’s her name?” Julie asked, completely undeterred.

“Willow,” Tara said, the mere mention of the girl's name lighting up her face.

“Is she pretty?”

“Gorgeous.”

“Does she treat you good?”

“Yeah, I mean it hasn’t been that long. It’s still really new, but I’m happy.”

“Well that’s great. I’m happy for you. And as your best work friend, I’m going to need you to provide me with a great amount of details so that I can live vicariously through you.” Tara just laughed and stepped forward to the counter to order her coffee.

******

Willow was beaming as she made her way back to her office, waving to anyone who just happened to make eye contact, practically skipping with excitement. She rounded the corner and stepped into her office, immediately closing the door behind her and hopped over to her desk. She grabbed her cell phone as she sat down and quickly found Tara’s number, hitting the button to call the blonde, spinning in her chair as she waited for the other girl to pick up.

“Hello?” Tara answered after the second ring.

“Hey Tare, it’s me. Willow.”

“Willow? Hmm, doesn’t ring a b-bell,” the blonde teased.

“It should. My bed still has your imprint from last night,” Willow said with a smirk.

“Oh really? Hmm,” Tara teased, trying her best to hold back a giggle that threatened to erupt. “Well I made a few house calls last night. Which one were you?”

“I was the one that rocked your world.”

“Oh right, Willow. Now I remember,” Tara said, letting the giggle out. “How are you sweetie? I was actually j-just getting ready to call you.”

“I’m great. I just got out of a meeting with my boss and he just informed me that I’m not just heading up the new department at the new office. I’m heading up the whole division for the west coast.”

“Oh Will, that’s fantastic! Congratulations!”

“Thanks,” Willow said, unable to wipe the smile from her face. “I’m really excited.”

“That’s amazing Will. I’m so proud of you.”

“It was really unexpected too. I knew the position was open but I had no idea I was up for it.”

“Well this calls for a celebration,” Tara said. “Can I t-take you to dinner this week?”

“Tare you don’t have to do that.”

“But I want to. Just pick a night. I’m free any evening b-but tonight.”

“Making more house calls?” Willow teased.

“Not exactly,” Tara answered before becoming more serious. “Faith called me earlier to ask me to meet her. She was she wants to talk to me about something.”

“Is everything ok?”

“I don’t know. I mean she said sh-she was fine but she was being kind of cryptic.”

“Well ok. How about tomorrow then?” Willow suggested.

“Ok. I’ll figure somewhere for us to go and I’ll call you when I get home from dinner ok?”

“Great. I can’t wait to see you,” Willow said.

“Me too. Bye Will.” The redhead hug up, still smiling though not from her earlier excitement over her new job. She was just excited at the prospect of seeing Tara again.

******

Tara stepped into the restaurant fifteen minutes after she'd agreed to meet Faith and scanned the establishment for the brunette. She spotted her a moment later, sitting in a corner booth, away from the other patrons, shredding a paper napkin and paying attention to nothing else. Tara frowned at the sight and cautiously made her way over to her best friend.

“Hey,” she said, carefully dropping into the seat across from her friend. Faith looked up and smiled but this did nothing to alleviate Tara’s fears that something was wrong. “Sorry I’m late. I got stuck in traffic.”

“It’s ok. I’ve only been here a few minutes,” Faith said, turning to see their server approaching for Tara’s drink order. The blonde quickly ordered a water and turned back to her friend, worry setting in at the sight of Faith’s dark eyes and sad frown.

"Faith, what’s going on?” she asked, reaching across the table to keep her friend from pulverizing another napkin. Faith sighed and stilled her hands but kept her gaze fixed to the tabletop.

“I got a call from Lukas today,” she answered, referring to her older brother. “Renee died.”

“Oh my God Faith, I’m so sorry,” Tara said, gripping Faith’s hand even more firmly. Tara had only met Faith’s piece of crap mother once but that had been more than enough for her. She’d heard enough horror stories to know the woman didn’t deserve an amazing daughter like Faith.

When Tara and Faith had met at eighteen, Tara had come from a warm, loving home and had left behind parents who supported her every dream and venture. She had an amazing older brother who looked out for her and threatened to beat the crap out of anyone who so much as looked at her the wrong way. Faith, on the other hand, had come from a much different family. When she was born, her brother Lukas was only four but had taken care of her from day one, protecting her in any way that he could from their drug addicted, sleazy mother. They’d been moved around from one filthy, cramped apartment to the next as their mother continued to get them evicted up and down the east coast, using what little money she earned, and sometimes stole, to buy her latest drug of choice, leaving her children alone for days at a time to fend for themselves. Later she’d find her way home, haggard and drained from one of her binges. Faith was ten, her brother fourteen before her mother was put in jail for violent drug related offenses and the two were finally removed from her mother’s care and placed into their aunt’s care in California. Life had gotten better after that for the Lehane brother and sister and it wasn’t until Faith was sixteen that she saw her mother again. Lukas had refused her requests to meet up and get reacquainted but Faith, being at an extremely impressionable place in her life, had agreed to meet Renee for lunch. Her aunt had dropped her off at the diner they agreed to meet at and waited at a booth in the back, watching the meeting to make sure nothing went wrong. To everyone’s surprise, the lunch had gone off without a hitch, the two just chatting and getting to know each other again. They had continued to have lunch once a week for the next few months, Faith’s aunt eventually parking around the corner and waiting for her niece instead of waiting in the next booth. It was three months later when Faith got stood up for the first time. After that her mother had started showing up less and less and when she did, it was obvious she had been out on one of her binges. Faith of course was heartbroken all over again when her mother stopped seeing her all together and she’d leaned on her brother and aunt for support. Since then Renee had only made an appearance once every year or so but it was always the same. Showing up, looking like she’d been scraped out of a gutter, bringing along whatever boyfriend/paycheck she’d managed to get her hooks into for the ride.

Tara had heard the whole story one night during the second semester of their freshman year after Renee had made one of her unexpected visits, hoping Faith would loan her a little cash and a place to stay until ‘she could get on her feet’. Tara had spent the night, trying to console Faith, who she’d never seen so fragile and broken, as the brunette cried herself to sleep on Tara’s shoulder.

“Are you ok?” Tara asked.

“Yeah. I mean I think I am.” Faith paused then and inhaled deeply, holding her breath for a moment before blowing it out in a huge sigh. Their server chose that inconvenient moment to reappear with Tara’s water and get their orders. Tara quickly shook her head to indicate they weren’t ready before turning back to her friend.

“Faith?”

“It’s just weird I guess. I mean I feel bad. I’m sorry that she’s gone and I’m sorry that she never really got it together.” Faith finally looked up to meet Tara’s eyes. “You know she hasn’t seen Lukas since my aunt took us in.”

“How’s he holding up?” Tara asked.

“He said he was fine. I don’t know though.”

“Well what can I do?” Tara asked, squeezing Faith’s hands once more.

“Well I know you have work and stuff and I know it’s short notice but my aunt and uncle are actually paying for her funeral on Wednesday. Will you go with me?”

“Absolutely. I can drive us if you want,” Tara said.

“Thanks,” Faith said before pulling her hands away and motioning the pacing server over to their booth.

“Are you sure you’re ok?” Tara asked after she’d taken their orders and left.

“Yeah. I think I just need some time to get my head wrapped around it.”

“Well if there’s anything else I can do just tell me ok.” Faith just nodded and started picking at her straw wrapper. “Did you tell any of this to Buffy?”

“No. Though I’m going to have to because I’ve been ignoring her calls all day. I just don’t know if I’m ready to tell her everything you know? All she knows so far is that Renee was never really in the picture.” Tara just nodded. “I’ll probably call her tonight. I think part of why I don’t want to tell her is that Buffy had a really great mom. To hear her talk about the time they spent together, I just… I guess… My relationship with Renee was very different,” Faith said, struggling to put her thoughts into words. Luckily Tara knew the brunette well enough to know what she was really trying to say.

“Faith, Buffy isn’t going to judge you because Renee wasn’t mother of the year,” she said.

“I know,” Faith said after a moment. “At least I think I know.”

******

Willow drove up her street, singing along with the radio as the wind blew through the open sunroof, tousling her hair this way and that, the permanent smile attached to her face make her cheeks hurt. She sped on as she couldn’t wait to get home and tell Buffy the great news about her job. As she got closer to the house she shared on Revello Drive a familiar car came into view and the sight was more than enough to put an end to her good mood. She pulled up behind the rusted Chevy that had seen better days and killed the engine. Sighing once, she steeled herself against whatever onslaught was coming and climbed out of her car, noticing a billow of cigarette smoke coming out of the Chevy’s driver’s side window. She walked towards the beat up car quickly, hoping to get whatever this was over with.

"Mom? What are you doing here?” she asked when the older woman met her eyes from inside the car. Sheila turned her body towards her daughter, blowing out a lungful of smoke as she did, which Willow quickly fanned away from herself.

“I needed to talk to you Willow,” she answered as she pulled off her sunglasses and threw her spent cigarette butt near her daughter’s feet.

“So why are you here? Why didn’t you just call me?”

“Oh I would have called if my phone hadn’t been shut off,” Sheila answered, a cruel smile crossing her features, her voice dripping with malice. “I thought I gave you that bill to pay. Would you mind telling me why you didn’t?”

Willow closed her eyes, sighing in frustration as she remembered the stack of red and yellow bills sitting on her desk that she hadn’t even thought about since last week when she’d had her melt down.

“Willow?” When she opened her eyes, Sheila’s smile was gone, replaced by a look of wrath in the older woman’s eyes.

“I’m sorry. I forgot to pay it. I’ve had a lot of other stuff going on,” Willow answered with a shrug.

“Oh really? I can’t imagine what could possibly be so important that you would do this to your parents!” her mother bellowed, her voice getting louder with every word. “We need that phone Willow! Your father’s still has to keep in touch with the doctor and I have my own appointments to keep up with! And if you didn’t pay that what else didn’t you pay? Are they going to foreclose on my house soon? Will the power be shut off tomorrow? I’m sure it will because you’re to busy-”

“Mom! Shut up!” Willow yelled, not caring about the neighbors who were walking by at that moment. “Just shut the hell up!”

“Don’t you dare talk to me like that Willow Rosenberg! I am your mother and you will not-”

“No! You are a piece of crap and I’m sick of this! I’ve taken care of you and dad for years now and you guys do nothing but use me over and over again! I’m done! I’ve had enough! Get your fucking life sorted out! Get off the booze, get off the pills and get out of my life because I don’t care anymore! You guys need to get your priorities straight and grow up!” she yelled, only noticing at the end of her rant that Buffy had appeared on the sidewalk near her car, back from her evening jog. She met the redhead’s gaze, a mixture of shock and relief on her face as she heard what the other girl said. Willow turned back to her mother, seeing the look of surprise there and then plowed ahead in a lower voice. “You guys are ridiculous. You’ve used me for years now and I can’t take it anymore. Just leave me alone and never come here again,” she said as she stepped away from her mother’s car and trudged up the sidewalk to the front door. Buffy was inside behind her half a second later and was there to catch her when the redhead collapsed, tears streaming down her face as sobs wracked her body.

******

It was well after ten before Tara plopped down on her bed and picked up her cell phone, exhausted but wanting to keep her promise to call Willow. The phone was on it’s fourth ring and she wondered if maybe it was to late to call her girl when a familiar voice answered.

“Tara?”

“Buffy?”

“Yeah, it’s me. How are you?”

“I’m f-fine. How are you?” Tara asked, confused why Willow’s best friend was answering her phone.

“I’m ok.”

“Is Willow ok?”

“She’s asleep but when I saw it was you calling, I thought I’d answer it for her,” Buffy said, avoiding Tara’s question as she stared down at her best friend, asleep in her lap, her eyes puffy and rimmed red from crying for so long.

“Oh ok. Well I w-won’t keep you then,” Tara said, getting the distinct feeling Buffy was hiding something from her.

“Wait! Before you go, have you talked to Faith today?” Buffy asked, hoping that the brunette’s roommate could put her at ease since Faith hadn’t answered any of her calls.

“Yeah, she’s um…,” Tara paused for a moment, thinking quickly for an answer she could give without betraying her friend. “She’s just had a really busy day. She’s actually on the phone with her aunt right now.”

“Is she ok?”

“Yeah, she’s ok,” Tara said, hearing her roommate in her own bedroom across the hall, still discussing the funeral arrangements. “I’ll tell her I talked to you though.”

“Ok,” Buffy said, feeling no better about her girlfriend’s avoidance. “I’ll tell Will you called.”

“Thanks Buffy. Bye.” Tara hung up the phone and lay back on her bed, closing her eyes even though she knew she was a long way from sleep. She opened her eyes and listened as Faith continued to talk on the phone, catching a glimpse of the brunette every few minutes as she paced back and forth in front of her own bed, looking as though she would collapse at any moment.

‘It’s going to be a long week,’ Tara thought as she stood up and made her way to the kitchen for a fresh cup of coffee for herself and a water for her roommate.

Dibs. YAY!! I barely ever get dibs on popular fics that aren't updated at a set preknown time.

Poor Willow and Faith. I come from a home much like Buffy and Tara and it always shocks when I hear how common the other scenario is. :mad

I'm glad Tara had a good life growing up with a non-poophead father and brother.

Hopefully Willow and Faith can bond in comparing bad parents and then find comfort from Tara and Buffy respectively.

Can't wait for the next update

Jessica...you totally saved my life tonight! I was photographing a super boring banquet and had a ton of downtime, so I was thrilled to see an update to read on my phone. :grin

I'm gonna go a little out of order her because I want to say a BIG YAY for Willow practicing the tough love on her parents!!! :applause It's a horrible spot to be in and I do not envy her one bit. It's too bad that it had to ruin her good mood, not to mention the fact that it also caused her to miss Tara's call, but it was necessary. Maybe now with the promotion and all, she'll be able to take Tara out on a proper date. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that it's not over with her parents.

I loved Tara's reminiscing about their night together and all around dreamy behavior...so sweet. :wtkiss Then the playful banter...adorable. Glad to see their comfort level rising, I just hope that Willow feels comfortable enough to tell Tara about the deal with her parents. She could really use a little TLC right about now.

Faith's mom...sad, but with her issues almost a given. She needs to tell Buffy though. Keeping this from her is not of the good.

Overall a great chapter and too angsty. Looking forward to the next installment!!!

Yay for great update-y goodness... I'm really glad that Tara was there for Faith... Yay for Willow telling her "parents" to piss off and never bother her again... I hope Faith calls Buffy and tells her about Renee and about her childhood... Willow needs to tell Tara about her so called parents so Tara can begin her snuggle therapy to make Willow feel better...

Great update. I'm proud of Willow for getting a promotion at work and for standing up to her mom. I still think she needs to tell Tara about her parents though. Faith has such a good friend in Tara. I'm sure when Faith explains everything to Buffy, she will be nothing but supportive.

Jessica,

Wow, so many goodies! :banana :eatme :banana :eatme :banana

First, both of them all dreamy-eyed and dopey with love! :flower :love :flower

Love Willow turning around in her chair and their sexy tease-y talk on the phone! House calls, indeed! :wtkiss

Then the angst. Willow's declaration of independence and telling lazy Sheila off! Wahoo! But you know there's trouble ahead . . . Then Faith, very touching. I felt for her, for her wanting something lots of us had - a loving mother. Nice change to have Tara have a loving family.

Then the last part, two women in love, struggling with pain and secrets and longing to trust. Touching.

Thanks!

Wow, so many (bad) things going on... I hope Faith will be okay and that Willow and Faith tell their respective others what's going on. Maybe they even realize they could help each other since they both didn't / don't have a great relationship with their parents?
Loved how Willow exploded on her mom though :bounce

Feedback:

BuffyFan4ever – Congrats on your dibs!

Poor Willow and Faith. I come from a home much like Buffy and Tara and it always shocks when I hear how common the other scenario is.

It is unfortunate. I grew up in a house that kind of lies in the middle so I’m trying to use that perspective to give an honest portrayal for all the characters. I’m glad it’s coming off as believable though.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

JustSkipIt – Buffy and Tara will definitely be there for their respective partners and friends. I think you need good people like that around for support when the times get tough you know. Thanks for reading.

Finey_McFine – Hey Shelby. I’m so glad I could be of service in saving you from your boring evening. You actually saved me from an awful day at work today but I didn’t have time to comment. I’ll do that later

I'm gonna go a little out of order her because I want to say a BIG YAY for Willow practicing the tough love on her parents!!! It's a horrible spot to be in and I do not envy her one bit.

I thought you’d appreciate that. It was time. But you’re right. No, it’s not over yet. It can’t be that easy. I mean where’s the fun in that, lol.

I loved Tara's reminiscing about their night together and all around dreamy behavior...so sweet. Then the playful banter...adorable. Glad to see their comfort level rising

Glad you’re enjoying.it. I did want to keep working on developing their relationship because that still is fairly new.

Overall a great chapter and too angsty.

Sorry, this update, much less angst-y-er. Thanks for reading and I hope you like the next update.

zampsa19752001 -
I'm really glad that Tara was there for Faith...

Yeah, this isn’t just about Tara and Willow. The friendship part is important too.

Yay for Willow telling her "parents" to piss off and never bother her again...

It was coming. Eventually people just snap.

Willow needs to tell Tara about her so called parents so Tara can begin her snuggle therapy to make Willow feel better...

That’s coming. Not just yet but soon. Thanks for reading.

love_2003 -
I'm proud of Willow for getting a promotion at work and for standing up to her mom. I still think she needs to tell Tara about her parents though.

She will and Tara will be nothing but supportive. That’s a given though.

Faith has such a good friend in Tara. I'm sure when Faith explains everything to Buffy, she will be nothing but supportive.

Again, it will be coming. Buffy will support Faith and Willow through this all. Thanks for commenting.

Ariel -
First, both of them all dreamy-eyed and dopey with love!

I know it’s cute right? Lol.

Then the angst. Willow's declaration of independence and telling lazy Sheila off! Wahoo! But you know there's trouble ahead . . .

Unfortunately, no this whole spat between Willow and her parents isn’t over yet but now that the dam’s started to break, there’s no turning back.

Then Faith, very touching. I felt for her, for her wanting something lots of us had - a loving mother.

This is the Faith I wanted to write. She was so demonized on the show and no one ever really knew why and I felt it was completely unjustified. She deserved more of a back story.

Thanks for reading and the fabulous assistance you gave me with this and the upcoming chapter.

WillowRulez -
I hope Faith will be okay and that Willow and Faith tell their respective others what's going on. Maybe they even realize they could help each other since they both didn't / don't have a great relationship with their parents?

That’s definitely something they have in common that they could “bond” over. But they’re going to have to talk to Tara and Buffy first.

Thanks for reading and the feedback. Hope you like the next update.

Update

Title - An Everyday Life
Author name – beautiful_love a.k.a. Jessica
Rating – PG-13
Disclaimer - I don't own these characters.
Feedback- absolutely
Summary- Totally AU - Tara meets Willow - the happy bumblings of falling in love - I'm not too good at this summary thing.
Notes: Special thanks to Ariel for her beta assistance. So holy crap I posted two weeks in a row! I'm so on a roll! Much less angst-y for this chapter. Hope you're all having a great week so far.

Chapter Twenty One

Willow cracked open her eyes as she felt the last vestiges of sleep leave her. She blinked rapidly to focus as she tried to figure out where she was.

What the hell? Did I fall asleep on a rock? she thought as she flexed the ache in her lower back. And why am I in the living room? she thought as she finally got her vision in focus enough to recognize her surroundings.

Slowly she sat up, pushing off the blanket wrapped around her, her stiff limbs protesting. She listened for any sign that someone else was home and hearing the bang of a pot falling in the kitchen followed by a loudly whispered “shit” she deduced she wasn’t alone. Standing up, she limped toward the kitchen, the smell of coffee combined with the faint sound of her roommate singing along with the radio making her smile. She stepped into the doorway between the kitchen and dining room, her smile growing even bigger when she saw Buffy, dancing around the stove, spatula in hand, a pan of french toast sizzling in front of her.

“Boy you got my heartbeat runnin' away, Beating like a drum and it's coming your way, Can't you hear that boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass, Yeah that's that super bass.”

Willow’s giggle was enough to alert Buffy to her presence but Buffy just smiled at her before flipping the bread in the pan.

“Hey Will. How’d you sleep?”

“Well my body feels like I got run over by a truck but I actually slept pretty good,” Willow said, limping over to the island and sitting on one of the stools there.

“You needed it,” Buffy said as she poured a steaming mug of coffee and sat it down in front of the redhead.

“Yeah, about that…,” Willow trailed off, thinking of the kindness and compassion Buffy had shown her the night before. “I just want to say thanks. For, you know, being here last night and taking care of me.”

“No problem,” Buffy said, flipping the few squares of french toast from the pan onto a plate already heaped with bread. She turned and set the plate on the island between her and Willow and slathered it with syrup. “Fork?” she asked the redhead who only nodded. Each girl grabbing a utensil, they dug in with gusto.

“Wow. That’s good Buf.”

“I may be an awful cook, but I know french toast,” Buffy said around her fork. Willow just nodded, swallowing the final piece of the square she was working on. “Are you going to work today?” she asked after a few more bites. “Or are you taking a mental day to recoup?”

“I’m going,” Willow answered, glancing at the clock and noting she still had plenty of time to get around. “I want to keep things as normal as possible.”

“I’m not trying to bring it back up or anything but I’m really proud of you, Will,” Buffy said, catching the redhead’s gaze. “I know it was hard and I’m sure it won’t get easier anytime soon but you did the right thing and you know I’ll be here for you, no matter what.”

“I know. You always have been,” Willow said, feeling a lump rise in her throat and tears sting her eyes at the memories of Buffy’s continued support over the years.

“Hey now, no more tears,” Buffy warned. “You can’t be the new big boss and go into work all puffy eyed.” Willow just gave a small smile and nodded, taking a sip of the coffee in front of her. “Besides if you-”

A quiet knock on the door interrupted the blonde mid-sentence and the roommates stared at each other, wondering who was at their back door at six-thirty in the morning.

“Dawn?” Willow suggested. “Maybe she forgot her keys.”

“Even if she did, she’d bang the door down. But it can’t be her. It’s way to early for her to be out of bed,” Buffy said as she eased her way to the door and pulled back the curtain covering the window pane in the upper half of the door to see who was outside. Without another word she unlocked and opened the door, surprised even further when she saw who the visitor was. “Faith? What are you doing here?”

The brunette stood there on the back porch, a paper sack in one hand, a tray of steaming styrofoam coffees in the other.

“I tried the front door but I think your doorbell’s busted,” she said with a sheepish smile. “Can I come in?”

“Sure, absolutely, sure. Come in,” Buffy said, stepping aside so the other girl could enter. Faith smiled gratefully as she stepped past the blonde and noticed Willow sitting at the counter, a small smile on her face.

“Hey Will. Sorry, I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“No, we were just finishing breakfast,” Buffy said, closing the door but making no move to come any closer to the brunette.

“Guess I should’ve gotten here earlier,” Faith said, holding up the contents in her hands with a shrug.

“Well I’m going to go get ready for work,” Willow said, feeling way too uncomfortable to be in the middle of such an awkward moment between the two girls. She stood up and quickly moved out of the room, avoiding eye contact with either girl as she did so.

“Wait, Will!” Buffy called just as she was about to leave the dining room She turned looking expectantly at her best friend, wanting more than anything to just be away from the uncomfortable kitchen. “I’m sorry, I forgot to tell you. Tara called last night after you fell asleep.”

“Oh ok. Thanks,” she said before turning and bolting out of the room, grabbing her blinking Blackberry off the coffee table near the couch and bounding up the stairs. She barreled into her room, closing the door behind her and looked at her phone, hoping there was a message of some sort from Tara. She couldn’t stop the disappointed sigh that escaped her when she saw nothing there. Setting the phone down on the nightstand she gathered her clothes for the day and moved towards the bathroom where the high pressure shower was beckoning her aching muscles. Just as she was at the door she quickly turned back, dropping her clothes on the bed and grabbed her phone again. Finding Tara’s number but knowing it was too early to call she settled on a text, quickly typing what she wanted to say and sending it before grabbing her clothes again and making her way to the bathroom.

******

“Sorry about just showing up like this,” Faith said, setting down he load in her hands and turning towards Buffy who still stood near the door.

“It’s ok. I was up.”

“And I’m sorry about yesterday. Not calling you back and all. It was just… well it wasn’t a fun day,” Faith said, leaning back against the counter and staring down at her shoes.

“Is everything ok?” Buffy asked, taking a cautious step forward. Faith risked a glance up at her, the hurt in her eyes unmistakable and shook her head before looking back down at her shoes.

“I need to talk to you about something,” Faith said, looking back up at the blonde and seeing fear flash through her eyes.

“Um ok… Is this about us?” Buffy asked.

“No,” Faith answered, standing up straight and stepping towards her girlfriend, confusion furrowing her brow. “What gave you that idea?”

“Well just, you’re not talking to me and the showing up now, being all mysterious at the crack of dawn. I just thought… I don’t know,” Buffy said with a shrug.

“Buf, no. This has nothing to do with us,” Faith said, closing the gap between them and wrapping her arms around the petite blonde. “I just got some bad new yesterday and I didn’t know how to tell you without telling the whole story. And it’s not a story I’m a big fan of recounting to anyone.”

“What is it?” Buffy asked, the fear in her eyes replaced by concern.

“Can we sit down and talk?” Faith asked, motioning towards the empty stools at the island counter.

“Sure,” Buffy answered, taking Faith by the hand and leading her to the seats.

“Donut or bagel?” Faith asked as they sat down and she grabbed the paper sack she’d come in with.

“Um…”

“Both?”

“Yeah,” Buffy said, smiling when Faith chuckled and handed her a glazed donut and a whole wheat bagel.

“You have to eat the bagel first,” Faith said, laughing again when a pout appeared on the blonde’s lips.

“Fine,” she said, taking a huge bite. “Now tell me the story.”

“Ok,” Faith said as she took a deep breath. “So you’ve told me all about your mom and family. And I haven’t contributed much to those ‘getting to know the family’ conversations. Well it’s because…”

******

Tara had been in her office since the unheard of hour of six a.m. and had been working furiously to try and get as much done as possible so she could spend all of tomorrow with Faith, helping in any way she could. When she’d left the apartment that morning, Faith was still asleep in her room, the two girls having nodded off together sometime around three that morning, after the brunette had shed a few more tears. Tara had tiptoed out of the apartment around five-thirty, hoping her roommate would get some rest, and pumped herself full of coffee before heading to work. She’d been at it for a few hours now and noticing that it was approaching noon she decided to take a much need break.

Grabbing her cell phone that she’d tucked away in her desk drawer, she left her office and made her way to the break room for a fresh cup of coffee. As she waited for a fresh cup to brew she pulled out her phone, checking to make sure Faith hadn’t called. All she had was a couple text messages, the most recent from her roommate.

‘I told Buffy. Not everything but almost. You were right. Again. And don’t work too long today.’

Tara smiled at the comment. She knew Buffy wouldn’t judge Faith for a past she had no control over. But instead of gloating she just wrote back:

‘I’m glad.’

The second message made her smile all over again before she even read it since it was from Willow.

‘I miss you.’

Tara’s smile grew even larger as she read the sentiment a few times, feeling her stomach flip at the thought of the beautiful redhead it came from.

‘I miss you more… call me,’ she wrote back after a moment.

She grabbed her freshly brewed cup of coffee and left the break room, making her way back to her office for some research. With the events of the day before taking precedent, she didn’t have a chance to look up a nice restaurant for her celebratory dinner with Willow. Going into search mode on the computer was not something she had much interest in but with the evening quickly approaching she was running out of time. She scrolled through the results Google had given her, trying to distinguish one place from another when her cell phone started vibrating from the corner of her desk. She saw Willow’s name flash on the screen and immediately answered.

“Hello?”

“Hey Tare, it’s me.”

“I know. I mean, hi,” she giggled, giddy with excitement at hearing the redhead’s voice.

“Hi,” Willow giggled back. “What are you up to?”

“Nothing, just work. What about you?”

“Same. I just got your text. Sorry I missed your call last night.”

“Yeah, Buffy said you were asleep,” Tara said, replaying the conversation she’d had with Willow’s roommate in her head. “Is everything o-ok?”

“Yeah. I mean now it is. Or it will be. Sorry I just… it was a bad night. I got into a fight with my mom and I was just really upset,” Willow explained.

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Is everything ok now?”

“It’s… It’s a long story Tare. One that I’m just not up to telling right now,” Willow sighed.

“Oh. O-Ok,” Tara said, trying unsuccessfully to hide the sting she’d felt at those words.

“Not that I don’t want to talk to you. Because I totally do. We can talk about anything. It’s just the whole story with my parents, it’s really long and difficult and with everything that happened yesterday, it was just really hard and if I start talking about it now I’m just going to start crying in my office. That would be so embarrassing. But I don’t want you to think I don’t want to tell you because I do. I really do. I’m not trying to keep anything from you and I know we need to be honest with each other if we want this to work. I just don’t want to talk about this now but I don’t want you to be mad at me or get your feelings hurt or-”

“Willow!” Tara didn’t want to yell but worried if she allowed the redhead to continue on her verbal tailspin she’d lose her forever.

On the other side of the phone the redhead sighed and slumped down in her office chair.

“Sorry,” she said, leaning her head back and closing her eyes.

“No it’s ok,” Tara said, taking a deep breath before continuing. “Will I don’t want you to ever feel uncomfortable or pressured with me. I mean I do want to know more about you and your family and everything else in your life but I understand if you’re not ready to tell me. If it’s too hard for you, that’s ok.” Tara paused and when Willow didn’t say anything she took it that she had the redhead’s full attention and kept going. “Will, I like you. A lot. And this is still really new… for both of us. I mean, we can take our time. I’m not in any big rush and I hope you aren’t either. We can take our time and just get to know each other as we go.”

“You’re right,” Willow said after a moment. “You’re absolutely right.”

“So are you ok?” Tara asked.

“Yeah, I am,” Willow said, opening her eyes, calmed by the blonde’s words.

“Ok good. So are we still on for d-dinner tonight?”

“Absolutely.”

“Ok. Well how about I pick you up at home? Say around seven?”

“I’ll be waiting.”

“Ok. See you later then.”

“Bye. Oh and Tara? I like you too. A lot”

“Bye Will,” Tara said as she hung up, the smile evident in her voice.

Ok, she thought, turning back to her computer. Now to find the perfect place to eat.

******

Willow stood in the living room, shuffling from one foot to the other as she peered out the window, waiting for Tara’s blue Civic to pull up the street. It was a few minutes after seven but she’d been ready for the last half hour, eager to see the blonde.

She replayed their phone conversation in her head over and over for the rest of her work day and each time found herself calm more and more as she heard Tara’s words of reassurance.

She’s right. We have lots of time. And she was so considerate about the whole thing. Of course she’s always considerate… about everything. And she’s so kind… and smart… and funny… and so beautiful. God she’s sexy as hell. I mean I knew when I first saw her she was gorgeous but I swear every time I see her it’s like wow. How can anyone be that stunning? Of course you’re probably not the only one who thinks so. I mean duh, other people have eyes Willow. But do I really want to think about anyone else looking at her? No! Absolutely not! Because then you’re going to start thinking about all those people, trying to make a move on her and- Damn it Willow, you don’t want to think of that!

Her internal babble was cut off by a quiet knock on the door and she refocused her gaze out the front window she’d been staring through to see Tara’s empty Civic, idling by the curb. Quickly she rushed to the door and opened it just as the blonde was about to knock again.

“Hey,” she said, her face instantly lighting up at the sight of the blonde in a simple summer dress, her hair pulled back in a ponytail, looking even more amazing than Willow remembered. Unable to help herself Willow reached for the blonde and pulled her inside, wrapping her arms around her in the process. “You look great.”

“Thanks. You too,” Tara said, wrapping her arms around the redhead’s shoulders. Willow looked down at her dark jeans and off the shoulder blouse, hoping she wasn’t underdressed for wherever Tara had decided to take her. “You’re fine,” Tara said, noticing the apprehensive look in Willow’s eyes.

“I didn’t know what to wear because you never said where we were going.”

“You’re fine,” Tara repeated, leaning in and softly brushing her lips against the redhead’s. “Are you ready?” she asked. Willow just nodded and allowed the blonde to lead her out of the house and to her waiting car.

“So how was the rest of your day?” the blonde asked, once they were both seated in the car and pulling away from the curb.

“Good. Lots of work but that kept my mind busy. How was yours?”

“The same. Lots of work. Sorry I was a little late picking you up. I lost track of time at the office.”

“It’s ok,” Willow said with a reassuring smile, reaching out to take the blonde’s hand off the gearshift and giving it a gentle squeeze as she entwined their fingers. Tara smiled back and the two lapsed into silence for the next few minutes, just enjoying being in each other’s company.

“So where are we going?” Willow finally asked as they jumped on the freeway and sped west.

“Well I’m still not completely familiar with the best ‘hot spots’ around here. I know I should be since I’ve lived here f-for a month now but in all fairness for the majority of the month I didn’t really go anywhere besides work. But I found this little seafood place that a friend of mine from work swears by. It’s called Hamlin’s. She said it’s amazing.”

“Yeah I’ve heard of it but I’ve never been there,” Willow said, squeezing the blonde’s hand.

“So you eat seafood?” Tara asked, glancing over at the redhead.

“Oh totally. I love it. Especially shrimp.” Willow turned just in time to see the blonde scrunch up her nose to that comment. “What? You don’t like shrimp?”

“I’m allergic,” Tara answered.

“Oh. Well I can get something else.”

“No, Will you can g-get whatever you want. This is your ‘Congratulations on being awesome and a big shot’ dinner,” Tara said with a smile as they exited the freeway and came to a stop behind a gaggle of cars waiting at a stoplight.

“But I wouldn’t want to jeopardize my chances of after dinner kisses,” Willow said. Tara turned to the redhead to see if she was joking and burst out laughing when she saw her face was completely serious.

“Shrimp or not, nothing will be jeopardizing that,” she said as she leaned over the console and placed her lips against the redhead’s. Willow tried to leave it as a simple peck but the feel of the blonde’s soft lips on hers combined with the intoxicating scent of the blonde’s perfume proved to be too tempting and she pressed her lips harder against the other girls, moving her right hand up to the back of Tara’s neck, pulling her even closer. Tara giggled slightly at Willow eagerness but quickly allowed herself to get lost in the kiss.

“Hey great show!” They heard from outside the car, breaking them apart as they turned to see who was hollering at them. Beside them was a group of young twenty-something boys in an SUV, obviously enjoying the sight of a little girl on girl action.

“Ew,” Willow said, a look of disgust instantly stamped on her face. “Really? Did they really have to do that?”

“Boys will be boys,” Tara said with a shrug as she followed the car in front of her through the now green light.

“But how exciting is lesbianism nowadays? I mean you see it everywhere. Television, movies, magazines, the internet. Even music videos just throw in random chicks making out for no apparent reason. It’s like ‘Yeah, they’re trying to get into each other’s pants, what’s on TBS?’ It’s over. Move on.”

“Does that mean you have no interest in getting into my pants?” Tara teased when the redhead finished her rant.

“What? No! Wait, I mean yes. Very interested. Very much with the interesting ideas there. That wasn’t what I was saying. I just meant…” She trailed off when she saw Tara smiling ear to ear and realized she’d been joking. “You’re mean,” she pouted, sitting back in her seat, her arms crossed over her chest.

“No, I get what you’re saying. An oversaturation in the media of any subject eventually leads people to be immune to any reaction. Makes sense.” Tara glanced over, noticing the pout still lingering on Willow’s lips. “Don’t worry. I’ll still let you get in my pants.”

“You’re not wearing pants.”

“Fine. My underpants then.”

Willow said nothing but Tara didn’t miss that small grin tugging at the corners of the redhead’s mouth.

******

“So ladies is there anything else I can get for you this evening?” the waiter asked as he cleared away the last of the dinner plates from the feast they’d ordered.

“Will?”

“I couldn’t eat another bite if I tried,” the redhead said, rubbing her stomach under the table.

“Just the check then please,” Tara said with a smile.

“Why do you insist on feeding me until I burst?” Willow moaned.

“I didn’t make you eat that brownie,” Tara said with a smile.

“Well he made it sound so delicious. All warm and gooey… whatever it was worth it,” Willow said. Tara just giggled and then turned her attention back to the waiter who’d returned with their bill. She quickly paid and escorted and still groaning Willow out of the restaurant, chuckling the whole time.

“So I supposed anything beyond taking you home and putting you in a pair of sweats is out of the question,” Tara said as they strolled though the parking lot.

“Well what did you have in mind?”

“Maybe just a quick walk. The sun’s setting and we could just walk over there to the beach,” Tara suggested, pointing in the direction she was talking about. “There’s a couple benches over there.”

“Ok. I’m in,” Willow said, grabbing the blonde’s hand and heading towards the deserted beach.

******

“This is such a gorgeous night,” Willow said as she leaned her head back to take in more of the night sky above her. The sun had set hours ago but neither girl had mentioned heading home yet.

“I know,” Tara said, snuggling closer to the redhead next to her. “I used to sit with my brother out behind out parents’ house when we were kids and we’d try to count the stars. We never got very far though.”

Willow smiled at the story and tightened her arm around the blonde’s shoulders, leaving a soft kiss on the top of Tara’s head.

“What else did you guys do together?” she asked, suddenly finding the blonde head of hair on her shoulder much more interesting than the star filled sky.

“Everything. We’re only two years apart and Donnie and I are totally an anomaly. I mean we fought occasionally but we were constantly together, riding the horses and helping my parents with the chores around the farm. There’s a pond about a mile behind my parents house and we’d spend everyday there in the summer together, usually getting in trouble.” Willow giggled. “The only time we were ever really apart was during school.”

“He sounds like a good brother.”

“He’s the best,” Tara said, grabbing Willow’s free hand in her own and tracing the lines on her palm with her fingertips.

“I could stay like this all night,” Willow said after a moment of silence.

“Me too,” Tara agreed. “Unfortunately I can’t. I have somewhere to be tomorrow.”

“More demanding clients?” Willow teased and Tara just giggled for a moment before sitting up straight and turning to the redhead.

“No, not tomorrow. I’m on friend duty tomorrow.” Tara paused for a minute, thinking of her roommate and what was going to happen the next day. “Faith’s mom passed away and tomorrow’s the funeral.”

“Oh my God, Tara I’m so sorry. I had no idea. Why didn’t you say anything? We could’ve postponed this for later in the week. We could’ve just hung out with Faith and done movies and fattening, disgusting food and, well I don’t know but something supportive,” Willow said, standing up and gesturing frantically with her hands.

“Will, calm down. It’s ok. Faith’s been with Buffy all evening. So she’s ok. I offered to hang around and she declined, vehemently. So don’t worry about it ok,” Tara said, standing up and wrapping her arms around the slim redhead.

“Well is there anything I can do? I mean I know I don’t really know Faith that well but she’s important to you and you’re… well you mean a lot to me.”

“I know Will,” Tara said with a small smile, pressing their foreheads together. “But it’s ok. It’s all going to be ok.” Willow just nodded. “It is getting late though. We should probably head home.”

“Ok,” Willow said, placing a gentle kiss on the blonde’s forehead and leading Tara by the hand back towards the restaurant parking lot. The two walked in silence to the car, climbing in and heading towards the freeway.

“By the way, thanks for tonight,” Willow said as they got onto the on ramp. “For dinner and everything. It was fun.”

“It was. And you’re welcome,” Tara said.

It was a quick drive back to Willow’s house, far too fast for the redhead’s liking but she didn’t want to keep Tara away from best friend duty any longer than was necessary.

“Tara, really, you don’t have to walk me to the door,” Willow said as they climbed out of Tara’s car and made their way up the sidewalk to the front door.

“Well I can’t have anything happen to you. You never know what kind of evil doers may be lurking around in the dark,” Tara teased. Willow just laughed as the two stepped onto the porch and she turned towards the blonde.

“Well thank you again. I had a really nice time.”

“Again, you’re welcome,” Tara said with a smile. Willow smiled back and stepped forward, gently placing her lips against Tara’s for a minute before stepping back and reaching for the doorway.

“Good night Tare. Text me when you get home.”

“Night Will,” Tara said as she turned and skipped down the steps. Willow waited on the porch until Tara climbed safely into her car and watched the blonde slowly drive away from the curb.

She’s amazing, Willow thought with a smile as she stepped into the house and closed the front door behind her.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Dibs!

Very sweet chapter after the major drama of the last with Willow finally telling her parents to take a flying leap. Both Faith and Willow with crap parents - maybe a bonding issue for them?

Looking forward to more, I'm really enjoying your story.

Overall a great chapter and too angsty.
Sorry, this update, much less angst-y-er. Thanks for reading and I hope you like the next update.
I meant to say that it wasn't too angsty, lol...a total fail, sorry!! :lmao

I'm glad that Faith fessed up to Buffy. Of course she worried for nothing, it's Buffy! I'm also happy that Willow took the first steps in telling Tara about her family. Great job on the role reversals! As you know, I'm a big fan of mixing it up:) I think it makes it more interesting.

Willow babble was adorable and perfectly written! ;-)

Awwww....very sweet! :luv :luv

Lovely chapter! We learned more about Tara's childhood and we got to see them fall more in love, even though they have only confessed that they are 'in like' with each other.

BTW...weekly updates are AWESOME! :grin :grin :grin

Yay for great update-y goodness... I'm really glad that Faith told Buffy about her so called mother... I'm really really happy that Willow has started to tell Tara about her parents... I loved the dinner and the walk to the bench afterwards...

Very good chapter (and I've only just started following this fic a week or two ago,) feels like a natural progression in both relationships.

Speaking from this particular corner of Planet Guy, neither social acceptance nor media saturation can reduce a basic drive :-), but the way those guys became an un-asked for and privacy invading cheering section, was, well, just tacky. (Or maybe it's the generation gap; I'm 55 not 22.)

You hope I like the new update? I love it :)
I am so glad that Faith told Buffy what was going on. I wonder if Buffy is going with her to the funeral? Or maybe that would be too early, I don't know. You'll make them do the right thing though I bet :p
I'm also very happy that Tara mentioned to Willow that they still are getting to know each other and that it was okay if they didn't know everything about one another immediately. It's good that they'll take their time, with everything that has happened to Willow she probably needs that kind of reassurance that not everything has to be forced.
“What?

Hey, Jessica!

So many nice moments!

Loved the opening as Willow wakes up, "Did I fall asleep on a rock?" :laugh

Then the Buffinator getting all breakfast song-y :lmao

Then myriad sweet moments, touching ones where friendship stayed strong and Faith shared her pain with Buffy.

You've totally got me caring about them all over again. Eager to see how the Rosenbergs do and how our favorite couple navigates through falling in love and becoming a couple.

Love this - thanks!
