Willow put her arms around Tara, helping her up. She winced with the movement.



“Tara…honey…are you okay? What can I do? What did he do to you?”



Tara grasped her stomach, pain coursing through her abdomen, uttering one thing “…the…baby.” before collapsing into Willow’s arms.



Chapter Thirty-seven



Willow sat at the bedside, anxiously waiting for Tara to open her eyes…occasionally wiping the blonde’s forehead with a cool cloth…



You are so beautiful when you sleep…I never knew it was possible to love someone this much. You’re my life, Tara Maclay…my life. Please don’t leave me, baby…come back to me…



“No! Willow! Oh Goddess, no!” Tara thrashed in the bed…mumbling deliriously.



Willow gently wiped Tara’s brow “Shhh…baby…it’s alright…I’m here…you’re safe.”



“Willow?” Tara asked…struggling to open her eyes.



“Thank the Goddess, you’re alright!” Willow said, relieved that Tara was coming out of her unconscious state. She couldn’t fathom a life without Tara…



Tara tried to sit up, wincing as hot bolts of pain coursed through her body as she did so.



“Whoa…just take it easy, baby…” Willow said, encouraging her to lay back down.



“He didn’t h-hurt you…did he? Is he gone?” Tara asked, frantically.



“I’m fine, sweetheart. He’s gone…now you need to rest…”



“Oh Goddess…no…” Tara said, tears rolling down her cheeks.



Goddess…please. I know it was wrong of me to trick her into this…but please…please don’t take her from me…



“Tara? What’s the matter? Are you in pain? What should I do?”



You must tell her, my child…



“Tara?”



“I’m okay…I think…just really sore…but Will…I have to tell you something…”

Willow could hear the fear in Tara’s voice once again…but this time, there was something different about it…something she couldn’t quite put her finger on…



“What, baby? Is there something that you need? Tell me and I’ll get it for you…”



Tara took Willow’s hand in hers…knowing what she had to do…



“No…Willow…I have to tell you w-what I did…”



“Whatever it is…it will keep…you need to rest.” Willow said, sternly.



“No…I have to tell you now! Willow…I’m sorry…I’m so sorry…”



“What?” Willow said, a puzzled look spreading across her face.



“I…I tricked you.”



“You tricked me?”



“Yes…”



“How so?”



Tara broke down completely, sobbing in Willow’s arms.



“I…I missed you s-so much…I just c-couldn’t bear to lose you again…and s-so…I thought…maybe…if I could have something…a part of you for me to love and to love me in return…just maybe…I could go on.”



“Ok…I was with you up until the whole ‘part of me’ thing…”



“Willow…last night…when we made love…” Tara took a deep breath to steady her nerves “…I’m pregnant…with your child…our child.”



Tara stared deep into Willow’s emerald eyes…looking for a reaction from the red-head…but there was only confusion…



Finally, the awkward silence was broken as Willow spoke just one word…



“How?”



Willow knew that there was much that was possible through the use of the craft that she was not privy to, but this…this was a mystery to her.



“Last night…the oil that I mixed with the water when I bathed you…it was a sacred oil from the ancient Celts…blessed by Artemis herself…when you said that you would give yourself completely to me of your own free will…Artemis allowed us to join together…creating life from our love…”



A baby. Their baby. Tara was going to have her baby…it was almost too much to understand. The thought of having a family with Tara made Willow ecstatically happy…but this? Tricked without her knowing what was going on? It hurt…but this was their baby…she and Tara’s flesh and blood…something that sprang forth from their undying love…how could she ever refuse that?



“We’re having a baby.” Willow said, as the reality of the situation finally sank in.



“Will? Baby?” Tara said, trying to break the red-head out of her daze.



“You’re having my baby…”

Great update but color me , is the baby ok but it has to be because it was in the book. But they were looking at the book before the attack so could the attack have an affect on the baby?



Does anyone else share in the confusion or is it just me.....because that could be the case.



I hope the next update will help with my confusion.

I know the issue is about Tara tricking Willow... and all...it hurts, sure it does, but well it's done.

I hope Tara and the baby will be okay. I know it was... unfair for Tara to trick Willow, but I suppose that's not really the issue now. I guess it really speaks of Tara's desperation and longing to go to such lengths to have at least a part of Willow with her.

I'm not upset about Tara's initial lack of honesty. It's obvious that she was quite sad being alone when Willow first departed. While Willow will have the Scoobies, all Tara seems to have is herself and some creepy warlock terrorizing her.



I'm glad she'll have someone to love and care for when Willow's gone.

“We’re having a baby.” Willow said, as the reality of the situation finally sank in.



“Will? Baby?” Tara said, trying to break the red-head out of her daze.



“You’re having my baby…”



Chapter Thirty-eight



Willow’s head was swimming...a baby...their baby...and suddenly it struck her.



“Oh Goddess! The baby! That bolt of lightning thingy...it hit you in the stomach!”



Suddenly, the thought of possibly losing this new life...this life created from the love that she shared with Tara...overshadowed any thoughts of anger and disappointment that she had towards her wife.



Tara tried to sit up, but winced with the pain as it jolted through her body.



“Baby...what can I do? You have to tell me...what do I need to do?”



“The magicks that he used...they were dark...you’re going to need to do a cleansing ritual on me and the baby...”



“A cleansing ritual? Tara...I’m not sure I know how to do that! What if I do something wrong? I’ll hurt you and the baby!” Willow was in full-panic.



Tara laid her hand upon Willow’s face, calming her “Willow...you can do this...you’re going to do just fine...I trust you...WE trust you.”



Those words were all that it took to make Willow realize that her family...her wife and child...were depending on her. She could not let them down...she couldn’t lose them.



“What do I need?” she said, with a new sense of direction and determination.



“First...you’ll need to smudge the room...there are bundles of sage hanging above the cupboard...”



Tara continued, telling Willow what components she would need and where to find them.



Willow gathered everything necessary. After smudging the room, she carefully cast a circle around the two of them on the bed using the sea salt and white candles. Lighting the candles, she spoke “Artemis...we ask your help...bring light where there is now dark...” The room was bathed in the soft glow of the candlelight. She leaned over, laying her hand upon Tara’s now feverish forehead.



“Baby! You’re burning up!”



“It’s the dark magick...it’s building up my system...just keep going, Will...it will get better once you’ve completed the ritual.”



Willow nodded, continuing “This creature of light has been tainted with the blood of the dark ones...not of her own free will. We ask your assistance, for we are but your servants, please have mercy upon us and wash this unclean magick from these souls.”



Willow took the cask of oil from the nightstand, opening it and pouring some into her hand. She dipped her finger into the oil, touching Tara first on her chest, then stomach, then her forehead saying “Maiden, Mother, Wise Old Crone...cast out this darkness from flesh, soul, and bone...”



Tara’s eyes closed as she felt as if someone were reaching into the very depths of her soul, grabbing the pain and lifting it out of her like pulling a string from a spool of thread...unwinding...leaving a tingling sensation throughout her body.



Willow continued “Protect these, my loves, my soul, my life...save them from all pain and strife...”



What is she doing? This isn’t part of the cleansing ritual!



“...if danger comes, if darkness should rise, lift up my soul onto the skies...and pay the Goddess for these lives...”



“Willow, no!” Tara said, realizing what she was doing.



“So as I say, so mote it be...Blessed Be!” The words had no more than gotten out of Willow’s mouth before the flames in the candles rose, bathing the room in a bright white light.



Willow smiled. Artemis had heard her prayer, and had given her word that Willow’s wishes would be carried out.



Tears flowed down Tara’s cheeks...she knew what Willow had done. She had made sure that no matter what they faced, she and the baby would be safe, for Willow would offer her life up in trade for theirs...



"Oh Willow...what have you done?"

Hi!



I just caught up with this fic and I'm enjoying it. I like the whole time travel thing, and the setting you're giving it, with us seeing both sides of what is happening : Willow with Tara in the "past" and the Scoobies trying too help out in the "present". Very interesting. I'm sure to be back for more.
