Thank goodness the phone call went well!

Quote:
"Hi," Willow just responded, using ever ounce of her willpower to keep from bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Adorable to see them trying to be discrete in the meeting. I look forward to more.

Wow,

This is a lovely, cute, funny story and I just want more of it! :pinky :party :pinky

Love their excitement and eagerness and shyness; it's all so sweet!

Also love how Faith is there trying to bail Tara out and how Faith is trying to keep Buffy from snooping relentlessly into our girls' romance!

Keep writing, okay! :kgeek

Thank you!

I have a fic addiction, which probably isn't good, cause I should be doing homework. But who can resist sweetness and fluff like this? :) W+T flavored cotton candy.

Great updates. I'm glad that Tara has a friend like Faith who doesn't push her for information about Willow. Buffy and Willow's friendship is a little bit different though. I am glad that Willow at least said something to Dawn. Willow wanting to see Tara sooner and then getting invited to the meeting was genius. Bravo to Tara for suggesting they go to lunch.

Again, this is what I've come to expect here at the Kitten; beleiveable dpeictions of who Faith would've been had she been raised in a loving, supportive environment. (and, let's be honest, this is precisely the person Buffy would be without the SLayer or simialr responsibilites.) Feels so right.

beautiful_love: I’m really glad you decided to be brave and share this story. I love Faith and Tara being close friends. Faith has a good head on her shoulders –very refreshing. Loved that Buffy and Faith tried to set up a blind date of sorts between Willow and Tara but fate intervened and had them find each on their own. Also nice that Willow has a great boss. The typical tyrant boss is soooo overdone.

I’m thoroughly enjoying your sweet falling in love tale. Well done!

Feedback:

SMGOVAN - I don't think either girl could have dealt with such a long wait to see each other again. And I'm glad you like the dynamics of Anya, Faith, and Tara. I always thought they would've been fun to watch together on the show.

zampsa19752001 - The date is coming I promise, along with more updates, hopefully on a more regular basis.

Laragh - Thanks for reading. And I'm glad you're enjoying the friendship side of the story too because even though I love writing the Willow and Tara parts, the whole "friends together" times and a blast to write too.

Finey_McFine - Anticipation is key, not just in this story but in everything. It makes getting to the end so much better. And you caught me. I was using Tara's stutter only when a certain redhead makes an appearance to prove a point.

LonelyTara - Of course the phone call went well. Wouldn't have it any other way. And I did like writing the part with the meeting to show how different they act.

JustSkipIt - I know. You have love Willow and Tara.

Ariel - I always felt like Faith had more to offer and while yes, she did stray a bit in season three, her character always seemed very loyal to me and that's how I wanted to portray her friendship with Tara. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you're enjoying the story.

Promthea128 - It is a little fluffy isn't it? Lol. I couldn't resist. Glad I could add a little more to your addiction.

KnightlyLove - Thanks for reading!

bouncer73 - Glad you liked the update. I hoping to get on a more regular schedule here.

love_2003 - Willow and Buffy's friendship is definitely different that Tara and Faith's, though I don't think Buffy is a bad friend. Just has her own way of going about things. And I couldn't resist poking a little fun at her. Thanks for the feedback.

DaddyCatALSO - I know. I always saw Faith that way and Buffy as possibly a little flighty without the world resting on her shoulders. But then again I may just be taking huge liberties with them. Lol. Glad you're enjoying.

Kajun - The sweet falling in love tale is my favorite because really it doesn't happen to everyone everyday. But for two people so right for each other, you just can't go wrong.

Chapter 9

Tara stood nervously in the main lobby of the high rise, waiting patiently for Willow to meet her. The redhead had gone to her office to grab her things and promised to meet Tara “in a jiffy” downstairs. She paced near the doors, glancing towards the elevator banks every time one arrived with a resounding ding. So far three loads of people had been dumped off and still no Willow. Truthfully, she was a little happy to have had this extra five minutes to gather her composure. With the little time she had she hoped to calm down her nerves enough so that she wouldn’t bumble and stutter her way through their meal.

“You ready?” The chipper voice behind her threw her out of her thoughts and she turned to see Willow standing there, that beautiful smile covering her face.

‘So much for gaining your composure.’

“Yeah,” she answered, taking a deep breath and following Willow out the doors of the building.

“So where would you like to go?” Willow asked as Tara fell in step beside her.

“Oh, I don’t care. W-Wherever. Honestly, I’m n-not to f-familiar with this area.”

“You’re not from around here?”

“N-NO. I’ve only lived here about a month.”

“Ok, no problem. There’s a cute little café about three blocks from here. I go there all the time. It’s my favorite actually. I think they know me in there by name now. Well not by name but by order. I tend to order the same things over and over when I find something I like. I don’t have the most refined palate you could say, I guess. I mean, not that I’m picky or won’t try new foods but I like what I know. I…” Willow drifted off when she saw the amused look Tara was giving her out of the corner of her eye. “Sorry. I don’t know what my problem is lately. I mean, I talk a lot but I never usually babble like this constantly.”

“It’s ok,” Tara laughed. “And that sounds fine. Are w-we headed in the right d-direction?”

“Yep, just up this way and around the corner,” Willow answered, smiling at the musical sound of Tara’s laughter.

*************************************************************************************

“So you’re not from around here?” Willow asked as the waiter set their orders down in front of them and walked away. They'd been seated at a table for two for the past fifteen minutes, watching as the rest of the restaurant filled up around them.

“Kind of. I mean I’m from northern California and I went to c-college there but I j-just moved here about a month ago,” Tara answered.

“How come?”

“For w-work. The c-company I work for tried recruiting me when I graduated from college but I d-decided to go to the east coast instead.”

“Where were you working there?”

“In B-Boston.”

“You didn’t like it?”

“No, I did. I mean, the e-east c-coast is beautiful. A-And I liked the company I was w-working for. But the opportunity here c-came up so I took it.”

“Are you happy you did?”

“Yes. I missed b-being here with my f-friends. And I absolutely love the j-job.”

“Well you’re definitely good at it,” Willow said, taking a quick sip of her water. “I mean, not that I know anything really about architecture. But I know how happy you made my boss, which really isn’t an easy task all the time. I mean he’s a great guy but I’ve never seen him interact with an ‘outsider’ the way he did with you. He’s generally a stick in the mud to anyone who doesn’t speak computers.”

Tara smiled but ducked her head at the compliment. Willow saw she’d made the blonde uncomfortable but couldn’t help taking a little pleasure out of the adorable blush that spread across Tara’s cheeks.

“So what about y-you? Have you always lived h-here?”

“Yep. Born and raised in and around the fabulous Sunnydale. I’d like to say otherwise but I can’t.”

Tara just stared at the redhead, waiting for an explanation but nothing further came out and Willow just started and the remaining food on her plate, picking at it with her fork. Tara could sense there was something her companion was holding back but chose not to press the issue. The waiter stopping by their table to check on their progress saved them both.

“So, how do you like Sunnydale so far?” Willow asked as he left.

*************************************************************************************

“So thanks for lunch,” Willow said as they returned back to the front of her building. “Saturday will definitely be my treat.”

“It’s n-no problem. Thanks for c-coming with me,” Tara said, smiling as she watched the redhead slightly bounce on the balls of her feet.

“What time’s your next meeting?”

“Crap, in like fifteen minutes,” Tara said, glancing at her watch and knowing she wouldn’t be going into the meeting as prepared as she’d like.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to keep you so long. Go! You’ll be late,” Willow said, suddenly frantic.

“It’s ok,” Tara laughed before suddenly turning shy. “So y-you’ll call me about S-Saturday?”

“Absolutely!” Willow answered, the thought of seeing the blonde again instantly calming her.

“Ok. I’ll t-talk to you later then,” Tara said with a smile as she turned away from the redhead. Willow watched her walk towards the parking garage, smiling like an idiot the whole time before practically skipping back into the building and up to her office.

*************************************************************************************

Tara stared at the blueprint in front of her, erasing and redrawing the same wall, over and over again, unable to get it just right. This normally wasn't this difficult for her. Her professors had proudly proclaimed her to be one of the best students they'd ever had and she could design city scapes faster and with more intricate details than any of her counterparts. But today it seemed she couldn't do anything right. She sighed and propped her head up in her open palms, her elbows grinding into the desk below her. The truth was, neither her heart or mind was in this project today. She could only think of one thing.

'Why hasn't Willow called me yet?'

It was Friday afternoon and she had yet to hear from the adorable redhead. She'd wracked her brain trying to think if she'd done or said something wrong to make Willow change her mind about their date but so far had come up empty handed.

'Maybe she just changed her mind about you,' she thought with a frown. 'It wouldn't have been the first time that happened.'

"Hey Tara, you got a minute?" She looked up to see Julie, standing in her doorway, her brow furrowed in frustration.

"Sure. What's wrong?"

"I need a fresh eye on the Johnson house. Do you mind?"

"No, not at all," Tara said as she stood from her desk and followed Julie out of her office. "What are you having trouble with?"

"Well I've gotten about fifty-seven different emails, all from his wife about all the different things she wants in the house and so I finally fit everything in, just as she wanted it and I get in the office today and there's four new emails from her with changes. And my mind is numb. I've been working it all morning but I'm coming up short." Julie said, running her fingers through her hair in frustration. Tara just smiled, knowing all too well how her friend was feeling. They reached Julie's desk and she showed Tara her original plans alongside the list of new changes that she had to try and work in, all the while shaking her head and rolling her eyes as she explained everything to Tara.

"You've really got a mess here," the blonde joked as she hunched further over the desk to take in the entire drawing.

"Tell me about it. It was supposed to be done last week and because of all these changes I've had to put more hours towards this and the rest of my stuff is falling behind."

"Alright, let's see," Tara said as she picked up a pencil and sat down in the high back chair. "What if you got rid of this wall to expand this office and cut back by maybe six inches on this closet? That would take care of this issue," Tara said as she marked a note on the emails off to the left.

"Hey, that would work," Julie said, taking a long, hard look at the drawing. "Which would make this room bigger so I could squeeze in the second fireplace she wants." Julie leaned forward and grabbed the pencil from Tara's hand, making the note herself.

"Yeah. And what about here?" Tara pointed to an obscure corner of the house. "What can you do with this?"

"Oh! I got it," Julie said, throwing herself back into the project with gusto. Tara just smiled and patted her friend on the shoulder as she made her way back to her office.

'Now if I could just figure out my own stuff,' she thought as she sat back at her desk and resumed her stare down with the blueprint in front of her. Out of the corner of her eye she saw her cell phone blinking, indicating that she had a message. She immediately picked it up and pressed the button for her voice mail without even bothering to look at who had called.

'Please be Willow... Please be Willow.'

"Tara, it's Anya..."

'Damn it!'

"Oh my God, I'm having the best time here. I can't wait to tell you all about it when I get back. Anyway the real reason I was calling is I wondered if you could do me a favor? I tried calling the shop this morning at eight and no one answered. I think maybe they're trying to get away with opening late while I'm gone and I'm not going to stand for that. So could you just maybe swing by sometime on your way to work next week to make sure. They better be open. I told them that nothing was to change while I was gone. I mean the morning is when we get all our shipments and everything. Someone has to be there to accept the deliveries. I swear, when I get back if we are understocked on anything I'll bring vengeance down on their heads. They should be there accepting the shipments and selling to customers. Anyway if you wouldn't mind swinging by, I'd appreciate it. Take Faith with you. You guys haven't been in for a while and we have loads of new products that you might be interested in. They all cater to the lesbian lifestyle. We actually have this new strap on that you-"

Tara immediately ended the call, not wanting to hear Anya discuss the latest lesbian accoutrement.

'Damn it,' she thought again as she prepared to text Faith about their upcoming adventure. 'Think Tara, think. What did you do at lunch with Willow that would've made her not want to see you again?'

The phone ringing in her hand brought her out of her thoughts and she answered without even bothering to look at who it was. 'Probably Faith calling to tell me about the outrageous message Anya probably left her.'

"Hello?"

"Tara?"

"W-Willow?" She pulled her phone away from her ear for a moment in surprise and clearly saw the redhead's name and number printed on her screen. "Hi."

"Hey. Sorry I didn't call sooner. I've been absolutely swamped at work."

"Oh, n-no it's ok." Tara instantly breathed a sigh of relief and sat back in her chair.

"One of our biggest programs crashed and it was causing widespread panic among the geek world," Willow joked. "But I finally got a free minute so I just wanted to see if seven-thirty was ok for dinner tomorrow?"

"Yeah, that sounds g-great. Should I j-just meet you there?"

"Sure, that would work. Do you know where it is?"

"Yeah, I d-drove past it the other day."

"Great! I'll meet you out front then at seven-thirty."

"Ok, bye." Tara hung up the phone, a huge smile plastered on her face. She sat back in her chair for a moment, allowing the relief to wash over her before another thought occurred to her.

'Seven-thirty. I can't wait!'

More sweet blush-y goodness, :blush but I’m very intrigued about Willow’s comment about Sunnydale. Hmmm . . .

Finally, a lovely does of Anya and fun with architecture!

Keep going – loving it! :kgeek

Yay for great update-y goodness... I liked their little lunch-date... Tara hanging up on Anya when she started to talk about lesbian-sex-lifestyle stuff made me laugh... I'm glad that Willow finally found time to call Tara and confirmed their dinner-date time...

Cute lunch, and glad they got a chance to talk again. Will is gonna see Tara and Faith at Anya's store, and then hilarity ensues. Right?

Thank you! Willow's hesitance will be explained I promise. And I had to throw some Anya in there. It had been too long without her.

zampsa19752001 - Anya is always sure to provide comic relief here, that's for sure. And I do enjoy writing her character.

Promthea128 - Willow will disclose soon enough but no, it's not cotton candy.

That would be hillarious.

Laragh - Yes blushy cuteness is adorable. And I'll get to Willow's "beef with Sunnydale" I promise. I haven't left you guys hanging yet. I refuse to do it now.

bouncer73 - I'm glad you're enjoying it. And thanks for reading.

Notes: So I know I just posted the last chapter yesterday but I know I'm not going to have time later this weekend to throw it up and I feel like since you've all be so patient you deserve this. So...

Chapter 10

Willow paced outside the restaurant doors, looking at the clock on her cell phone every thirty seconds to see what time it was.

7:26

‘Relax,’ she chastised herself. ‘She still has time to get here. Not everyone arrives fifteen minutes early like you.’ She’d actually arrived closer to seven but sat in her car for the first fifteen minutes so as not to look like some sort of weird stalker outside the restaurant. ‘I should’ve made the reservation for earlier.’ Honestly she didn’t know how she’d actually patiently waited until now to see Tara again. ‘Get a grip! You barely know the girl.’

Once again she looked at her cell phone.

7:27

‘Grr!’

She turned on her heel to walk back towards the other side of the door once again when out of the corner of her eye she saw Tara walking towards her.

‘Oh wow.’ Willow had to quickly gather herself and pick her jaw up off the ground. The blonde looked stunning in a simple knee length skirt and short sleeved blouse that gave Willow just a glimpse of her ample cleavage. The breeze pushed her long, flowing hair behind her as she walked, leaving her face open for Willow to explore. ‘She’s so beautiful.’

“Hey,” Willow greeted when Tara was close enough to hear her.

“Hi. Have you b-been waiting long?”

“Oh no, I just got here,” Willow fibbed. “You look amazing. I mean great. You look great.” Tara dipped her head to hide behind her hair but before she could Willow saw the blush taking over her cheeks.

“Thanks. So do you.”

“Shall we?” Willow asked as she opened to door to the restaurant and motioned for Tara to enter. The blonde walked inside and then followed the slender redhead up to the hostess. “Hi, we have a reservation for 7:30. The name’s Rosenberg.”

“Ah, yes. Follow me, we have your table ready.” They followed the young girl to the back of the restaurant where a semi-secluded table waited for them. They sat together, nervously smiling at each other over their menus until the waiter came to take their order, taking the menus with him when he left, leaving them completely open to each other.

“So, do you live alone?” Willow asked.

“No. I’m staying w-with a friend f-for now.”

“How’s that working out?”

“Good. We a-actually lived together a-all through college so it’s n-no big deal.”

“That’s cool. I live with a girl I’ve known since high school. And half the time her younger sister stays with us too.”

“So you g-get along then?”

“Oh yeah. Dawn, that’s her sister, she’s in college now so that’s why she doesn’t live there with us full time. But she’s great. She’s almost like my sister too. And I’ve been best friends with Buffy since she moved here sophomore year.”

“B-B-Buffy?” Tara stuttered.

“Yeah. Kind of a funny name.”

“P-Pretty uncommon.” Tara took a sip of her water a leaned forward. “So she’s our age?”

“Yeah.”

“Um, w-what does she look like?”

“Um, well she’s blonde, my height, thin.”

‘What the heck? Why does Tara want to know what she looks like? Oh God! Did she just come here with me tonight to scope out my roommate? Well it wouldn’t be the first time someone used you to get to Buffy. But I didn’t even tell her I had a roommate… did I? Think Willow! Think! No, I didn’t. So why is she so curious about Buffy? Calm down. Relax. Maybe she’s just making conversation. It doesn’t mean she’s not interested in you.’

“Is s-she um… g-gay?”

‘Damn it!’

“Yeah she is.” Willow slumped down in her chair defeated. She was surprised to hear Tara’s laughter a moment later. She looked up at the blonde, still giggling away and a genuine look of confusion crossed the redhead’s face. “What? What’s so funny?”

“Is she b-by any chance d-dating a girl named Faith?”

“Yeah. How’d you know that?”

“Faith’s my roommate.”

‘Oooohhhh.’ Relief washed over Willow and she sat back up in her chair, a smile on her face. Tara continued to giggle and that only made Willow’s smile bigger. ‘She’s so cute.’

“Small world huh?”

“Definitely,” Tara said as she took a sip of her water.

“So you already met Buffy then?”

“Yeah. The th-three of us went out for drinks after she got her tire fixed.”

“Yeah, I um, kind of faked a headache to get out of it,” Willow admitted. Tara pretended to be horrified but then laughed. “It wasn’t to get out of meeting Faith or anything. I was just kind of irritated with Buffy.”

“D-Did you know that they w-were setting us up?” Tara asked nervously.

“No! Really?”

“Yeah. I b-broke Faith down in the car on the way to the club we were supposed to meet at.”

“Wow. And I had just told Buffy that she wasn’t allowed to set me up with anyone anymore a few days earlier. Shows how well she listens. I felt bad the next morning though about ditching you guys.”

“You should. I had to watch them b-be all cutesy alone,” Tara teased.

“Well I’ll try to make it up to you,” Willow said, the flirtation in her voice evident to both girls. She watched as the blush spread across Tara’s face again but instead of ducking behind her curtain of hair, she just smiled at the redhead, her mind churning with all the ways the beautiful girl could in fact make it up to her.

*************************************************************************************

“I’m absolutely, completely and totally stuffed to the gills,” Willow said as she rubbed her stomach. “That was delicious.”

“It really was,” Tara said as she stepped out of the restaurant behind her date.

It was after ten and the two had been sitting in the restaurant for the better part of an hour, their dishes cleared, just talking and getting to know each other better. Willow learned that Tara had grown on up a horse ranch in northern California with her protective older brother Donnie, who still watched over her like she was twelve years old. She loved animals and was seriously considering going to veterinary school before falling into architecture. Her friends Faith and Anya kept her on her constantly on her toes as she was the “responsible” one of the group. And she spent a long weekend at least once every four months with her parents and her brother’s family on their ranch, just catching up and playing with her nieces. Willow was just a forthcoming with stories about her and Buffy growing up with their friend Cordelia, who had just moved to New York about six months earlier. She told Tara all about the antics she and Buffy had put up with when Buffy’s mom passed away six years earlier and Dawn went wild. But when Tara asked her about her family, she glossed over her answer, saying simply that her parents lived only a few blocks away but that they “weren’t close.” Sensing Willow’s discomfort, Tara immediately changed the subject to music but filed the “family” subject away for a later day.

“I was thinking of asking if you wanted to go down to the boardwalk for an ice cream but I don’t think I can fit anything else in me,” Willow said, stretching this and that, hoping to shake the uncomfortably full feeling she had.

“Well, we could s-skip the ice cream and j-just take a walk,” Tara suggested, not wanting her time with Willow to end. Willow just nodded and smiled, motioning towards the path that led from the restaurant down towards the boardwalk. The two didn’t say anything as they made their way through the throngs of people that had come out on the absolutely perfect evening.

“I didn’t realize it would be this crowded,” Willow said as a couple of giggling teenagers pushed their way between the two girls, running towards the sound of music that seemed to echo off of everything. “There must be a concert.”

“A concert?”

“Yeah, they have live bands play one day during the week and then one day during the weekend. It usually happens on Friday night though.” The girls continued to meander through the crowd, the music getting louder and louder as they walked. They rounded a corner and found the source, a small stage lit up with an alternative band in the center of the lights, pounding away on their instruments, a decent size crowd gathered around to listen to their anguish. “You want to check it out?” Willow asked as she glanced at Tara on her left.

“Sure,” the blonde nodded. Willow smiled back at her and moved into the crowd, clearing the path for Tara to follow. They settled somewhere in the middle and stood together, their arms gently brushing together every few moments as the rest of the crowd squeezed in around them.

Tara watched the people around them, nodding along to the music, laughing, smiling, enjoying each other’s company. She turned to Willow and smiled when she saw her head bobbing along to the beat. She turned her attention back to the stage and watched the band play on for another two songs before taking a break from their first set. The crowd seemed to swell for a moment and then start to disperse. She turned towards Willow, not wanting to lose the redhead and was surprised to feel her fingers enveloped in the warmth of the redhead’s hand.

“Come on, we can go this way and avoid all these people,” she said as she pulled the blonde towards the stage, walking to the right of it and onto the beach beyond. Her hand tingled from where the redhead gripped it, leaving her feeling a little light headed. “Sorry, I just am not big on crowds.”

“No, it’s o-ok. I’m not either,” Tara admitted. She was pleasantly surprised that as they continued to walk, Willow didn’t let go of her hand. With the music gone all the two heard were the gentle breaking of the waves as the water crashed down on the sand to their left and the dull clamor of the crowd beyond the buildings to their right. They appeared to be the only two on the beach at that time and surprisingly, instead of being nervous at the proximity of the redhead, Tara found herself relaxing and in a bold move, sandwiched Willow’s hand between hers as they walked. Willow felt the warmth of Tara’s left hand on the back of hers and smiled at the blonde, giving her other hand a little squeeze as they continued on the path back towards the boardwalk. Slowly they made their way back to the restaurant, pausing on the way at different booths lining the walkway, pointing out different trinkets and knickknacks, laughing and joking the whole time. By the time they finally reached the restaurant it was almost midnight and the parking lot was clear of all cars except for theirs and the remaining restaurant staffs'.

“I had a really nice time tonight,” Willow said as they stopped at Tara’s car.

“I did too,” Tara said, without even the hint of a stutter. Willow smiled at her and briefly squeezed her hand before letting it drop.

“Maybe we could go to a movie this week? You said you hadn’t seen that new Jennifer Garner movie.”

“I’d like that.”

“Great,” Willow said with a smile, her tongue poking out between her teeth. “I’ll look at show times and call you this week.”

“Ok,” Tara nodded, her own half smile gracing her face as she watched the redhead trying to contain her excitement.

“Alright, well I’ll let you get home.” Willow said this but made no attempt to move to her own car, and this only made Tara smile more.

“Good night Willow,” Tara said as she opened her car door and climbed in.

“Good night.” Willow watched as the blonde started the car and put the car in gear. Surprisingly she then rolled her window down and poked her head out.

“Go get in your car. I’m n-not leaving you here by yourself,” she said with a smirk. Willow just giggled and turned, quickly making her way to her own car and safely climbing in. She started it and waved to Tara one last time before the blonde sped off and out of sight.

Willow couldn’t wipe the smile from her face the whole way home. It had been a great night and honestly, the best date she’d ever had. She couldn’t wait to see the blonde again. Pulling into the driveway she noticed Buffy’s car was missing but Dawn was home. She parked her car on the street and quietly walked into the house, careful not to disturb the younger Summers girl in case she’d fallen asleep watching TV on the couch, which quite often, was the case. She locked the door behind her and peaked around the wall to the living room to see the television blaring on a late night infomercial but the couch empty.

“Dawn?” she called out, grabbing the remote to turn the TV down and noticing the light in the kitchen was on. ‘Figures,’ Willow thought, knowing that the younger girl was raiding the fridge. “Dawn?”

“Willow?” the young girl peeked her head around the wall and smiled when she saw she was no longer home alone. “Hey! Where’ve you been? I’ve been here by myself all night.”

“What are you up to?”

“Nothing. Just getting a snack. You want some?” Willow walked into the kitchen and saw Dawn was using the term snack loosely. The giant mixing bowl on the counter contained the remainder of Buffy’s rocky road ice cream, rice crispies and marshmallows, all covered with a strawberry topping she couldn’t remember buying.

“I think I’ll pass,” she said.

“Ok, you want to watch a movie?”

“Sure, let me just run upstairs and change.”

She took her time, changing out of the black pants and fitted top she’d worn to her date with Tara and slipped into her sweats before making her way back downstairs where Dawn had already set up camp on the couch and was tucking into her concoction. Willow took one of the easy chairs and settled in as the previews started.

“So you were on a date?” Dawn asked, without even looking away from the TV, a smirk covering her face.

“Shut up,” Willow said as with a laugh, knowing that Dawn wouldn’t hold off much longer before she was asking for details.

"Ok, ok. But you're going to have to fess up soon Will. Because I can tell from the perma-grin on your face that this is the start of something good and I need details."

"Details will be coming down the pipeline, I promise. I just want to enjoy this for now," Willow said, hoping Dawn would understand what she meant. The younger girl just nodded, an understanding smile crossing her face.

"So Buffy's at Faith's tonight... Again," Dawn said, spooning another load of sticky sugar into her mouth.

'Oh, poor Tara,' Willow thought, but she couldn't help but smile to herself.

"Well we're lucky they don't come here you know?" Willow said, noticing that the opening credits were finally starting to roll.

"Amen," Dawn said, licking a chunk of ice cream off her thumb.

*************************************************************************************

Tara crept into the front door, hoping that Faith would either be asleep or out for the night. She knew her roommate wouldn't bombard her with questions on her whereabouts but she was hoping to just have some alone time to unwind after what she had classified as the most fabulous date ever. She saw the lights on in the living room and heard the unmistakable sound of Faith's laughter at something on the TV.

'Damn,' she thought as she clicked the deadbolt locked and kicked off her shoes near the door.

"Tare? That you?" Faith called from the living room.

"Yeah, it's me."

"You ok? I tried calling you but you didn't answer. I was worried."

"Oh, sorry. I didn't have my phone on me," she answered as she stopped in the kitchen to grab a bottled water. She rounded the corner and was surprised to find Buffy cuddled up next to her roommate, looking at her expectantly. "Oh hi Buffy. I'm sorry, I didn't know you were going to be here."

"We're just watching some TV. Wanna join?" Faith asked, patting the seat on the couch next to her.

"No thanks. I'm tired. I'm just going to head to bed I think."

"Ok, well we'll keep the TV low so you're not bothered," Faith said as she reached for the remote.

"No it's ok," Tara said as she reached her bedroom door and opened it. "I'm getting pretty used to having to sleep with lots of loud, unexpected noises in the apartment." She pointedly looked between the two girls on the couch, a small smirk on her face as she did. Normally she wouldn't have been so forward but her night with Willow had left her floating and she couldn't resist poking a little fun at her roommate and girlfriend.

For her part Faith just chuckled and nodded her head. Buffy however sat next to the brunette, looking completely confused.

"Good night," Tara said as she closed the door.

"Night Tare."

"What is she talking about? Loud, unexpected noises in the apartment?" Buffy asked.

"Nevermind Buf. Let's just finish this show and head to bed. We have to get up early tomorrow if you still want to do that marathon in the morning."

"Ok." Buffy was quiet for a moment but then turned to Faith and whispered, "She was so with Willow tonight! Why didn't you ask her about it?"

"Let it go B. Just let it go." A soft kiss on Buffy's forehead was enough to keep her quiet again. For now at least.

Hey...sorry I didn't comment on the last chapter. I read it yesterday when I was still at work, then I got busy and wasn't able to comment. :paranoid

Anyway...nice update! I really enjoyed their date. :blush You gave a lot of detail and I kinda felt like I was on the date with them. I like that they are taking things slowly.

I felt bad for Willow...poor thing, she is always jumping to the wrong conclusions. Thankfully, Tara cleared things up quickly. They are incredibly cute together. ;-) Great job!!

I'm happy to see you updating so often!! :party :party

Keep 'em comin'!!

Great updates. Glad to see that Willow and Tara had a good lunch date. Anya's voice-mail message made me laugh. Willow arriving early for their Saturday date was adorable. Was glad that they both finally realized that their friends were trying to set them up. Can't wait to see what you have in store next for them.

So, the cat's finally out of the bag...Please put Buffy out of her misery and let her get some confirmation on our girls dating. Very sweet dinner date. I loved the late night stroll. However, i'm a bit worried about why Willow's being all avoid-y girl on the subject of family....Secrets are bad.

Chapter 11

“Wow, we really are good friends,” Tara said as Faith parked her jeep and killed the ignition.

“Well I promised Anya I’d stop by this weekend. You didn’t have to come,” Faith said as she climbed out of the driver’s door and walked around the front of the jeep to meet Tara.

“I know. I just don’t understand why, if she was so worried about leaving it in her employees hands, she didn’t just close down for the week.”

“And risk losing all that money? Come on Tare, you know her better than that,” Faith joked but the blonde just shrugged. The two continued to walk down the block in silence, Faith knowing something was bothering Tara but not pressing her for what it was. She decided to take the roundabout approach instead. “Great day. Perfect for running.”

“How’d the marathon go?”

“Good. Big turnout.”

“What was it for?”

“Cancer. Buffy’s mom had a brain tumor. She was going thru chemo and it was looking better but she didn’t make it.”

“Was she ok this morning?”

“Yeah. After the run they had a little breakfast where some people got up and talked to everyone. They just told their stories about how cancer’s impacted their lives. She got a little choked up but I think she’s glad she was there. She runs in it every year.”

“That was good of you to be there for her,” Tara said, remembering how Faith had stood by her through her own mother’s cancer scare. Faith just shrugged.

Tara turned back to the street, watching where she was walking just as the sign for their destination came into view.

Anya’s Orgasm Hut
Guaranteed to get you off

A small giggle escaped Tara as she looked at sign. Faith followed her line of sight and let a smile cross her face as well.

“I’m happy for her you know. I really am. She’s worked hard for this, I know. I just get uncomfortable… you know… going in here,” Tara said, motioned towards the deep red building looming in front of them. Anya had originally wanted to paint in green, thinking the color of money would make people want to spend their hard earned dough on her assortment of naughty toys, but her friends had convinced her that red would be more appealing for her customers looking to get it on and the color she’d chosen definitely drew your attention to the store.

“Is that what’s bugging you?” Faith asked, stopping in front of the door.

“I just feel weird going in there.”

“Tare, it’s ok. I mean it’s not like you’re here everyday, buying out the stock of raspberry flavored lube. It’s like the third or fourth time you’ve been here since she opened it. Besides, Anya’s our friend and I promised her we’d check the place out.”

“No, it’s not the store. I mean, it is kind of awkward but whatever. As long as I don’t run into any clients here, I’m ok,” Tara explained before pausing for a moment. “It’s who’s in the store.”

“Oh!” Suddenly it all clicked in Faith’s memory and she couldn’t stop the smile from coming to her lips. “I forgot about that.”

“The last two times I’ve gone in there he’s hit on me and I blatantly told him I wasn’t interested. But apparently he doesn’t know what no means.”

“He should, he hears it enough,” Faith laughed, referring to Anya’s assistant manager.

“Well it’s just a little disarming, how he stares and stuff.”

“You can wait out here,” Faith offered. “I won’t be long.”

“No, it’s ok. If I let you go in alone he’ll focus totally on you but if we go in together it’ll split his attention.”

“Safety in numbers, gotcha,” Faith said with a laugh as she pushed open the door and walked in, Tara close on her heels.

The shop appeared to be empty except for a few college age girls browsing the bachelorette novelties section and the newest of Anya’s hirees behind the counter with his feet kicked up, headphones on, scanning the latest issue of GQ. He looked up as they entered and nodded before returning his attention back to his magazine.

“Looks like we’re in luck,” Faith said as she stepped further into the shop between two racks of the most expensive lingerie she’d ever seen.

“And it looks like Anya was worried about nothing. The place looks fine,” Tara observed as she stepped to the other side of the rack Faith was sandwiched between and scrunched her nose up at the section of see-thru corsets that hung there.

“Ah, new customers!” Tara cringed at the voice behind her and felt her shoulders sag as she turned to see the man she was hoping to avoid on this trip.

“Hey Spike,” Faith said from behind her.

“Faith. Tara. Lovely to see you both,” he said as he leered at the two women, studying them intently from head to toe causing Tara to shiver and Faith to swallow the bile rising in her throat. “What can I help you with today?”

“We’re just looking,” Faith said as she turned and walked further into the shop, Tara right behind her.

“For anything in particular?” he asked, following the two at a slower pace.

Faith said nothing so Tara just shook her head in response, trying to appear interested in a nearby case containing everything Kama sutra.

“Now, you realize you do need a partner for those exercises” Spike said as he saddled up beside her. “I’d be happy to assist you.”

“No thanks,” she said, turning away just as Faith reached her other side.

“I think she could find someone more suitable to her needs than you Spike,” she said.

“More suitable?” he asked, a cocky smirk planted firmly on his face.

“Yeah, you know. Less peroxide in the hair, less penis in the pants,” Faith answered. Behind her she heard the other employee laugh. Spike’s eyes went wide for a moment and his smirk completely vanished. Tara had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. “Anyway, you ready?” Faith asked, turning to Tara.

“Definitely.” She turned and made her way towards the door, Faith hot on her heels, making it out onto the street before letting her laugh erupt from her throat. “Wow. My knight in shining armor.”

“God, I feel like I need to shower now,” Faith said with a grimace as they started walking back towards where she’d parked.

*************************************************************************************

“You really don’t have to buy me dinner.”

“Yeah, and you really don’t have to let me live with you, but you do,” Tara said as she carried their pizza to the nearest booth. “Faith, it’s like six bucks. It’s fine.”

“Well I like living with you. I got lonely when you moved to Boston.”

“I did too,” Tara admitted as she sat down on her side of the booth and opened the box to find their favorite pizza in the city, her half covered in veggies, Faith’s half covered in meats. “You eat worse than any other dietician in the world, I swear.”

“Like you could really know that Tara. Do you know ever other dietician in the world?” she teased as she picked up a slice and bit it in half.

“So how’s everything outside of you’re life of couple-dom going?” Tara asked, taking a much smaller bite from the slice on her plate.

“Good. Work’s good. We’re getting more clients,” Faith answered, wiping the sauce from her fingers and thinking about whether or not she wanted to ask what she was thinking. She didn’t want to pry or make her best friend uncomfortable but she decided it couldn’t hurt to throw it out there. “What about you? Anything new, with work or anything?”

“Work’s good,” Tara said, a brilliant smiling lighting up her face that had nothing to do with work and everything to do with a certain redhead. “Getting a lot of positive feedback lately.” Faith just nodded but didn’t say anything else. She doubted she’d get Tara to admit to meeting Willow just yet. It always seemed to take her best friend a few weeks before fessing up to her newest love interest and she figured Willow would be no exception. She was more than surprised with Tara proved her wrong. “And I had a date last night.”

“Oh?”

“Have you met Buffy’s roommate yet?”

“No. You know we were all supposed to meet last week but Buffy hasn’t brought it up since.”

“Well she’s great,” Tara said, still smiling.

“How’d you meet her?” Faith said, deciding she didn’t want to play games.

“Actually I’d seen her around a few different times. Once in the coffee house down the block from our apartment and then again after I’d met with a client downtown. The computer firm I told you about.” Faith just nodded, taking another slice from the pie in front of her. “And then I saw her again after work one night at a different coffee shop. She dropped some money on the floor so I picked it up for her and we ended up having coffee together. And she asked me out.”

“Where’d you guys go?”

“Why do you not seem surprised by any of this?”

“Because Buffy and I saw you two having coffee.”

“And you waited until now to tell me this?”

“I figured you’d tell me when you were ready," Faith said with a shrug. Tara just smiled at her friend.

"Anyway, we actually ended up having lunch downtown first and then we went out to dinner last night and ended up just walking around afterwards."

"So you're telling me about this girl after two meals? You must really like her."

"I do. She's funny and smart and beautiful. She makes me feel things I've never felt before. And I know that probably sounds weird since I just met her but... I don't know. It's just..." Tara couldn't think of how to finish her thought.

"Powerful?" Faith suggested.

"Yeah. She's really incredible."

Faith didn't say anything else. She just smiled at her friend, the blonde staring off into space as thoughts of Willow danced through her head.

"So wait a minute. You and Buffy knew all along about it and neither of you said anything?"

"I wasn't going to do that to you Tare. I figured when you were ready, you'd tell me. And you did."

"Thanks for not pushing." Faith just nodded. "Somehow I doubt Buffy will be as chill about it as you are."

"Oh God."

*************************************************************************************

Willow paced back and forth across her room, her cell phone pressed to her ear, listening to her mother rant and rave about everything under the sun. She'd been on the phone with her for half an hour and hadn't gotten a word in edgewise.

"Mom! Mom! I know ok. I'll take care of it tomorrow when the bank opens up ok." She listened for another few minutes as her mothers voice grew more and more frantic. "Mom! I know! I have to go. I'll call you later." And with that she hung up and slumped down onto her bed, letting the phone roll out of her hand and onto the floor. It was only half a second before it started ringing again.

'Damn it!' She picked it up, fully expecting to see her mother's house number on the display screen and was more than pleasantly surprised when Tara's name and number met her eyes.

"Hello?"

"Hi, it's T-Tara."

"Hey! I was going to call you, I swear. I actually have a list of the movie times all written out already," she said, looking at her desk and the neatly written list she'd made there.

"I wasn't calling about the m-movie actually. I just w-wondered if you maybe w-wanted to have lunch tomorrow. I'll be downtown again at your office."

"I'd love to!"

"Ok, g-great. I'll meet you in the l-lobby say around one?"

"I can't wait."

"Bye Willow."

"Bye."

She smiled as she stared at her phone a moment longer, the conversation with her mother totally gone from her memory. She put her phone on her nightstand and left her bedroom, making her way downstairs where Buffy was grading papers in the living room.

"Hey Buf. You too busy to grab a cup of coffee?"

"Now what kind of question is that?" Buffy asked as she dropped the stack of papers and her red pen and stood up. "Where do you want to go?"

"Java Joe's?"

"I'll drive."

*************************************************************************************

Sitting at the table for two, Willow looked around the cafe as Buffy waited at the counter for her drink. This was the same place she had her first cup of coffee with Tara.

'Well your only cup of coffee with her... so far,' she thought with a smile.

"What's so funny?" Buffy asked as she sat down across from her friend.

"Nothing. Just thinking about something funny I heard at work," she lied. "I got an email from Cordelia this morning. She's going to try to come visit next month."

"Oh really? That's great! I can't wait to see her," Buffy said, feeling the pang of missing her close friend.

"Me too. You can introduce her to Faith," Willow suggested as she took a sip of her coffee. Buffy just nodded. "Hey, maybe we could try to set up something this week like you were trying before. You know me meeting her and she could bring her friend." She knew it was mean to lead Buffy on like this but she couldn't resist.

"You mean Tara?" Buffy asked, sitting up in her chair and leaning forward on the table towards her friend.

"Yeah. I mean, I know you already met her but it might be fun. You know, the four of us just hanging out."

"Um... I guess we could set something up."

"You don't want me to meet her now?"

"No, I didn't say that. I just... well..."

"I thought you liked Tara when you met her?" Willow interjected, leading Buffy further down the path of destruction. 'This is too fun.'

"I did. I mean I do."

"Then what's with the waffling? I mean don't you want us all to be friendly towards each other?"

"Oh, yeah, of course."

"I mean, it was kind of obvious that you were trying to set us up. Did you change your mind?"

"What? No! Will... Wait, how did you know about that?" Buffy looked at her friend, completely frazzled.

"Oh, Tara told me. Over dinner last night. She actually got the whole story out of Faith the night we were supposed to meet but we didn't realized who the other one was until last night." Willow took a final sip of her coffee and stood up, ready to leave. "It actually would've been a good set up you know? I mean, I would've been pissed at you at first because, well you don't really listen that well. But after meeting Tara, I would've totally forgiven you." Willow smiled at her friend and turned to leave the cafe, leaving Buffy sitting in her chair, stunned. Finally she looked up to see the redhead, smiling at her through the front window and it all clicked into place that she'd been teasing the blonde.

"Willow!" she cried and she stomped out of the shop to drive the redhead and herself back home.

Dibs!!!

Wow, so many goodies here!

Start with the last, love Willow's playfulness with Buffy. Nice to see that humorous girlfriend stuff! And to see the light go on in Buffy's mind! :party

Really like Faith and Tara's relationship. Faith's mellowness, letting Tara share confidences when she's ready. Nice contrast to Buffy.

Also Faith's smackdown of slutty Spike, "too much peroxide in the the hair and too much penis in the pants." :party :party :party

Really loving their growing closeness, agree 100% on the slow pace. Very leisurely and sweet.

Thanks!!! :blush

I must admit that I'm really hoping to see Willow interact with Spike, I can just imagine the things Willow would want to do to him for talking to Tara that way. Cute update, can't wait for more w/t action!

Yay for great update-y goodness... I really liked Tara's talk with Faith... Faith's comment that Spike has "too much peroxide in the the hair and too much penis in the pants." really made me laugh... I really liked the way Willow told Buffy to stop being too nosy... Big yay for another lunch-date...
