Sing Your Heart Out

Chapter 1: Sing a Song of Sadness

“I-I don’t think I can do this Faith, I don’t think I should even be out in public. I mean a girl needs time to recover from such a hit to the emotions. And besides, it’s been like one or two days, I hardly call that time to mourn over ones loss,” Willow rambled, here eyes never once leaving the building that lay in front of the two girls. It wasn’t so much the building that had the red head nervous, no, Willow got over her fear of extremely out of place buildings a while ago, it was the banner that hung neatly above the double doors that marked the entrance. Looking at it again, Willow couldn’t help but shudder.

“Will, it’s been nine days, nine whole days of your pent up in your room! Your never going to get over him if you don’t get out a little. There’s nothing to even worry about, it’s just a club,” Faith tried to calm the redhead as she shoved her a few steps forward.

“It’s not just a club, Faith! It’s a school sponsored club! Meaning I’ll know some of those people from my classes. I’ll probably see all of them around campus as well. I can just imagine bumping into one of them, “Hey you’re that geeky red head from the club,” And I’ll be like “Yup, that’s me, geeky red head from the club,” And th-”

“Will, breathe,” Faith interrupted the red head’s panic attack, mocking a big intake of air before letting it out. “You’ve been acting strange since you broke up with guitarist. What was his name again? Odd?”

“His name is Oz, well it’s Daniel, but that’s besides the point,” Willow couldn’t help but let out a small giggle at her best friend’s attempt at cheering her up. Oz was indeed her boyfriend for over two and a half years. They had started dating her junior year in high school and the couple really seemed to had hit it off. Willow could have sworn he was the one. That is until she walked in on him in bed with another woman, the singer of a local band, Willow believed her named to be Veruca. The whole incident left the red head crushed and she immediately called it off with Oz. Although her and Oz attended the same college they hadn’t seen or talked to each other since, not only cause Willow had mostly kept to her room besides class but they hung out with separate crowds.

Willow’s eyes widened at the realization of who might be through those double doors and she took a step backwards. “I-I can’t do it,” Willow raised her hands up in surrender. “I can’t… he might be in there,” she abruptly turned and began to walk away when Faith’s hand reached out and grabbed her wrist.

“Willow, look at me,” Faith demanded in a serious tone.

Willow sighed, she knew Faith was serious this time for Faith rarely called her by her full name. She turned to face Faith knowing full well she couldn’t win this battle.

Faith eyed the nervous red head, “Who’s your best friend?”

“You are…” Willow answered monotonously, almost as if they had been through this a million times, which of course they had.

“And how long have we known each other?”

“Since kindergarten…”

“And who, after all these years, has been right when it comes to matters of the heart?”

Willow rolled her eyes, “You…” She mumbled out. “But I cant help to think that THAT!” she pointed at the banner she had been eyeing since she stepped up to the building that night. “is the reason why you brought me here on this particular night!”

Faith now turned to face the banner the red head was pointing at “Hmmm… open mic karaoke night…” Faith read aloud. “I would never do something so sneaky and underhanded like that!” she tried to sound appalled. “Tonight is about hooking you up with someone and forgetting about Oz…” Faith checked the watch on her wrist. “Now come on! Your time slot is coming up,” Faith exclaimed as she pushed Willow towards the double doors.

“T-time slot?” Willow was almost to afraid to ask.

“Yeah, so many people wanted to sing tonight that you had to book it a week in advance! But don’t worry, I took care of everything for ya,”

Faith gave a dreamy sigh. “Ah Red, what would you ever do without me?”

“I wouldn’t be singing tonight, that’s for damn sure,” Willow said as she allowed her friend to lead her to what she knew would be her demise.
_____________________________________________________________________

“Next up is Willow Rosenberg!” said the MC for the night. Willow knew him to be Alexander Harris, but he went by Xander. He was from her History of the Arts class, A real ladies man but all around nice guy. Maybe he’ll be nice enough to not laugh to hard.

Willow’s eyes went wide, she quickly scanned the crowd. “Faith! I-I just realized, I don’t know what to sing!” she yelled to the brunette that was now standing towards the front of the crowd.

Faith thought about it for a second before yelling back to answer "just sing your heart out.”

Xander lead Willow over to the karaoke machine to pick out a song and quickly showing her how it worked as well.

“It’s ok Willow,” Xander said as he noticed the red head’s nervous state. “I’m sure whatever you pick and sing will be fine, your singing will be a hit, and by the time the night’s over you’ll have the phone numbers of at least five lucky guys. Your singing will make all the guys fall for ya,” he gave her a quick wink and a smile before he headed off the stage.

“Or laugh hysterically,” Willow retorted to no one at all. Ok, focus Rosenberg, which song should you choose? She scanned the selection of music, which, to her surprise, wasn’t as limited as she thought it would be. Once she knew she picked what she thought to be a good song, she walked to the center of the stage and picked up the mic from the stand. She look out upon the audience, Goddess, it feels like the whole school is here tonight.

Willow closed her eyes and took a deep breath as the music began to pick up to a nice beat that she knew all to well. The guitar solo was nice, but she knew it wouldn’t last and she would eventually have to start singing.

Well, here goes nothing, she took a deep breath.

1.
2.
3.

Can you see me
Floating above your head?
As you lay in bed
Thinking about everything
That you did not do
Cause saying “I love you”
Has nothing to do with meaning it

And I don’t trust you
Cause every time your near
Your intentions are unclear
I spend every hour waiting
For a phone call
That I know will never come
I use to think you were the one
Now I’m sick of thinking anything”

Willow took a deep breath before continuing.

“And you ain’t ever coming back to me
That’s not how things were suppose to be
You took my hand just to give it back
No other lover has ever done that.”

As she sung the last lines of the song's chorus she took her first look out among the crowds faces. The sight that greeted her was not of everyone booing but the looks that they had on their faces told her that they were enjoying it. She smiled as the next verse of the song was about to begin.

“And do you remember
The way we use to melt?
Do you remember how it felt when I touched you? Oh
Cause I remember very well.

And how long has it been
Since someone you let in
Has given what I gave to you
And at night when you sleep
Do you dream that id be there?
Just for a minute, oh I do, do you?

You ain’t ever coming back to me
that’s not how things were suppose to be
You took my hand just to give it back
No other lover has ever done that

Heartache, heartache I just have so much
A simple love with a complex touch
And there is nothing you can say or do
I called to let you know I’m through with you”

Willow almost laughed at the trueness of the songs words. This song was her way of letting herself know she was through with Oz. She couldn’t help but let out a silent tear at that realization and she hoped to god no one noticed.

“And you ain’t ever coming back to me
that’s not how things were suppose to be
You took my hand just to give it back
No other lover has ever done that

Heartache, heartache I just have so much
A simple love with a complex touch
And there is nothing you can say or do
I called to let you know I’m through
I called to let you know I’m through
I called to let you know I’m through with you.

And I ain’t ever coming back to you.”

The crowd erupted into a roaring applause as the music died down. Faith bounded through the crowd and leaped onto the stage to give the speechless red head a congratulatory hug.

“Ya hear that Will? All that clapping is for you! I believe that you rocked this house,” Faith shouted over the applause.

“Doesn’t change the fact that I still feel like shit,” Willow said, the sadness evident in her voice.

“What’s that?” Faith said ignoring the redhead and holding her ear towards the crowd. “I think they want a encore!”

Willow’s eyes widened. “What? No way… I’m done,” She put the mic to her mouth. “Sorry folks, but I’m uh, all sung out.” She put the mic back on it’s stand and was surprised to hear the crowds disappointment at her decision to exit stage left.

Willow hopped down off of the stage with an equally disappointed Faith trailing behind her.

“All right Will, what’s your problem now?” Faith asked as they sat down on a couch towards the back of the club.

Willow sighed for what seemed like the millionth time that night. “It’s just that, that song reminded me once again that Oz is no longer mine… No matter how much I want him to be.”

“Aw hun, it’s fine. Let’s just listen to the other people sing and relax. Or you could scope out the hotties, there’s gotta be someone here tonight that gets you hot you know where,” Faith said with a smirk as her own eyes scanned the crowd.

Faith’s attention was brought back to the stage as Xander made his appearance and grabbed hold of the mic. “I know, we all wanted Willow to sing us another song, but I assure you this next vocalist will have you begging for more as well. You all know her as the lead singer of the new campus band, The Wiccans, I know her rather personally,” Xander chuckled to himself, a mischievous glint in his eyes. As if on cue a black sneaker flew from off the stage and smacked Xander squarely in the head. “Ow… Uhm…. Just kidding,” he massaged the back of his scalp. “Ladies and gentleman, put your hands together for ms. Tara Maclay!” Xander said, clapping his hands and backing his way off stage.

A blonde head peaked its way onto the stage eyeing the crowd. Almost suddenly a body darted out from behind the curtains to takes it’s place at the mic, or more like the body hopped out, being shoeless on her right foot.

She cleared her throat as she quickly put her shoe back on and grabbed hold of the mic. “Hey everyone,” the blonde smiled a sideways grin. “Willow Rosenberg, eh? That’s gonna be a tough act to follow,” the blonde hoped that at the mention f the red head’s name she would have looked up, but she didn’t. Tara frowned, she probably didn’t even notice. “Well in sticking with the mood of the last song, and seeing as I’m in the same boat as the lovely little red head. I’ll sing a song about dealing with an ex… Although, unlike Ms. Rosenberg, I’d deal a little more differently.”

The music began and Tara felt it flow through her as she began tapping out the beat with her foot.

“She clings to me like cellophane
Fake plastic submarine
Slowly driving me insane
But now that’s over

So what if the sex was great?
Just a temporary escape
Another thing I grew to heat
But now that’s over.”

“Hey Red, this girl really knows how to handle a break up. Maybe you should get a few pointers,” Faith said trying to get the red head to look up from her drink that she had been eyeing for the past five minutes or so. “Get a load of Blondie up there. She ain’t half bad.”

Willow’s eyes finally left her drink and fell upon the stage. Her jaw dropped as her eyes rested upon the goddess that graced the club that night. Willow could feel her heart begin to race as she watched the way the woman moved as if the words compelled her, the way he mouth formed every syllable of the lyrics, which Willow couldn’t even process at this moment in time. The way her golden hair shone by the dim light of the club. Everything about the woman was so… so sensual, so... sexy. Willow’s eyes were glued to the woman on stage and she was quite sure she even drooled a little. This, of course, didn’t go unnoticed by the brunette sitting next to her.

“Why, why you always kick me when I’m
High, knock me down ‘till we see eye to
Eye. Figure her out
I know she may not be Ms. Right
She’ll do right now

She’ll do right now

I use to hang on every word
Each line was more absurd
Kept me so insecure
But now that’s over

She taught me how to trust
And to believe in us
And then she taught me how to cuss
That bitch its over

You know I use to be such a nice girl

Why, why you always kick me when I’m
High, knock me down ‘till we see eye to
Eye. Figure her out
I know she may not be Ms. Right
She’ll do right now”

And so began the guitar solo and if Willow’s mouth could have dropped any lower, it would have as the girl on stage started to dance to the beat of the music. The blonde’s eyes were closed as her hips swayed in rhythm to the drum beats. Goddess, does she know how hot she looks? How I’d like to feel those hips as I… Whoa Rosenberg! Get a grip, you don’t even know the girl and your already dreaming of seducing her! I cant do that until we get to at least first name basis! But Willow couldn’t help but be lost as the blonde began to sing again.

“She clings to me like cellophane
Fake plastic submarine
She’s driving me insane
But now that’s over
Now that’s over

Why, why you always kick me when I’m
High, knock me down ‘till we see eye to
Eye. Figure her out
I know she may not be Ms. Right
She’ll do right now

She’ll do right now
Right now
Oh, right now”

Another roar of applause erupted from the audience as the music came to a stop.

“Thanks you, thank you. You’re to kind,” Tara waved them off as her eyes scanned the crowd for the red head, almost as if she was seeking her approval, but she was no where to be found. Tara’s head fell in disappointment.
________________________________________________________________________

“Yo Red, why did we have to leave so early?” Faith asked as the two of them walked back to their dorm.

“I uhm, just didn’t want to be there anymore. I was uh… bored! That’s right, I was bored,” the red head tried to explain but it came out rather lamely.

“Are you sure it wasn’t because you were smitten?” Faith asked, a knowing smile played across her features as she stopped walking and faced the girl.

Willow’s eyes widened. “Nope! Uh… no smitten here, no sirè!” she raised her hands in defense. “Besides, there weren’t any cute guys there tonight anyway, you know that…” Well, Willow thought, that wasn’t a total lie.

“Come on, you and I both know that it’s not just guys you’re after, Will” Faith’s smirk grew wider if that was even possible. “I know and you know that you bat for both teams.”

“Even still…” Willow tried her hardest to defend herself.

“Not even with a certain sexy blonde on stage? Don’t think I didn’t notice. Hey, I was practically swimming in your drool!” Faith said bluntly. She didn’t even wait for the red head to answer as Willow stopped dead in her tracks and Faith trotted along triumphantly ahead of her. By the dumbfounded look on her face, she knew she had gotten it right.

“Was I really that noticeable?” She asked in a whisper, to afraid of the answer.

Willow noticed that Faith had stopped a little bit further ahead to wait for the now stunned red head, she shook it off and jogged to catch up with the brunette.

Oh this was going to be interesting…

~~

The first song sung by Willow is Maroon 5's Through With You. The second song that was sung by Tara was SR-71's Right Now both are very good songs that come with my highest recommendations, you should check them out!

An excellent start, Melissa! Willow and Faith are always good together and you're writing them very well, and I like that Wil already knows she likes girls. I'm looking forward to more.

Hey Kittens!

Sorry about the slow update, been playing video games... to lazy in other words. Just beat Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds for the Xbox. Let me tell you Vampire Tara in that game= scary as hell! Her quotes of "Now this time, I'm really gonna taste you" And "I know you like the shy st-stuttering type. But th-this time... you get to be the submissive one" just sent shivers down my spine. And playing as Willow will always be a plus (Even if Alyson Hannigan didn't do her voice acting in this one, and some really bad woman did) I have to admit though, when I was trying to protect Tara in one of the levels, I ended up nailing her in the back with a fire ball and killing her :blush

Sing Your Heart Out

Chapter 2: The Ballad of Deceit

“Willow”

That voice

“Willlllooooowww!”

Willow looked up from, well, where ever the hell her head was at the given time. Oh goddess, it’s her. Willow’s eyes widened as her gaze fell upon the voices owner.

“Willow, honey. You in there?”

They were sitting in what looked to be a private garden, but who’s garden, Willow had no idea. As a matter of fact, “How did I get here?”

“Well, you asked me if I wanted to go on a picnic, I said yes. Then well I suppose to answer your question, you kind of walked here.” The blonde explained, eyeing Willow. “Is everything alright, love?” The blonde placed a worried hand on the red head’s knee.

“No. I don’t think so… why did you call me love?” Not that I mind it or anything, I mean, I would love for you to call me love. I would love to be your love. I would love to get to know and love you, hopefully somewhere less open, dark, on a bed? And maybe, you know…. When I know your name? And here I am with the Willow-babble when I should just get straight to the point,” Willow couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward at the hand placed on her knee.

“That’s ok. I always thought it was kind of cute,” the blonde gave a lopsided smile.

Willow’s face reddened. “R-really? You think I’m cute?… OK! So not the point! I don’t even know your name!”

“Will, you know my name, silly!” the blonde laughed. “Sweeties, are you ok? Or are you still recovering from that bout we had a few hours ago in your bed?” The blonde raised an eyebrow. “You know, when I…” she leaned in and whispered something in to the red head’s ear which immediately made her face turn an even deeper shade of red, almost matching her hair. The blonde pulled away and licked her lips.

“W-what? When did we do THAT? I mean goddess! Was I sleeping? No, I think I would remember doing that!” Willow was in full on babble mode when the blonde grabbed her shoulders and made the red head look into her eyes.

“Willow, my love… You’re scaring me. But I want you to know that I- CLASS DISMISSED!”

“Huh?”

A book slamming at the desk right next to her woke Willow up from her dreamy state. She looked around to find herself in the familiar setting of her English classroom.

“It was just a dream,” Willow looked around to make absolute sure that no remnants of her dream-like forms haunted her. From what she could tell she just drifted off in class.

“Aw, fuck…”

_____________________________________________________________________

“FAAAAAAAIIITHH! You gotta help me!” Willow complained, her body falling limply on her bed, an exasperated grunt escaped her lips as she hit the soft material.

“Look, Red, I don’t got to do anything,” Faith turned around in her swivel chair to face the fallen red head.

“But Faith, she’s all I can think about lately! It’s crazy! I mean, I don’t even know her name,” Willow rested her hands over her face. “In class today I found myself thinking about her, dreaming.” Faith stood up, shock written on her face. “That’s right, I, Willow Rosenberg, thought about her in the middle of class! You know what that means,” Willow tapped her head with her finger. “ No thinking about class going on up here. Just blonde, blue eyed and beautiful.”

“Holy shit, Red! You really do have it bad!” Faith flopped back down in her chair with a heavy sigh.

Willow looked up with a smile. “So, you’ll help me?”

“Well, I’ll tell you what. I’m not gonna tell you her name, but since you’re sooo desperate, her bands playing tonight at the club. Why don’t you go and see if you can talk with her?” Faith eyed the red head, waiting for an answer.

“I don’t know, she seemed kind of well, you know? Mean” Willow began to feel really nervous, thinking back to the song the blonde had sung about her ex. “”Maybe it would help if I know her name?”

“Forget it Red, one piece of information per night. What do I look like? A 411 operator?” Faith leaned back in her chair.

“Gee, thanks, Faith,” Willow said as she picked up her coat and began to head for the door.

“No problem, what are best friends for?”

________________________________________________________________________

“Come on, Willow. You can do this!”

Willow once again stood outside the double doors that had brutally mocked her the night before. But she conquered her fears than, what’s so different about now?

“Well, for one, I don’t have my roommate breathing down my neck. Where’s Faith when you need her?” She sighed.

I don’t even know what I’m going to say to her! Willow sat down on the steps leading towards the building. Hey, you may not know me but I’ve had dreams about your bountiful bosom, may I touch it? Willow sighed as she picked herself up and dusted herself off. Well I suppose it’s now or never. And with that, she marched herself in.

________________________________________________________________________

“You ready for this, Tare?” A blonde asked as she plugged in her base. Tara seemed to snap out of her daydream.

“Yeah, I’m ready, Amy. Just a little bit out of it, I guess…” Tara headed to her place in front of the mic.

“Well try not to screw us up?” Amy asked with a smile, trying to cheer her friend up.

Tara laughed. “Alright, I’ll try not too.”

“Ok here we go…”

And the curtain was drawn.

________________________________________________________________________

“Oh goddess, what was I thinking?” Willow stood towards the front of the crowd. “How the hell am I suppose to get her attention if she’s all the way up stage?” A mental image of herself holding a cardboard sign with the words “DO ME” in red letters flashed through her mind.

“Ladies and gentleman, I am proud to present, here for the first time at Chaos Bleeds, The Wiccans!”

Willow looked up as the crowd roared for the band and the curtains opened. And then Willow saw her, her goddess stepped onto the stage and towards the mic, and from that moment on, Willow couldn’t take her eyes off of the blonde beauty.

________________________________________________________________________

The blonde’s eyes scanned the crowd and found the familiar red head sitting front and center. Her lips twitched into a smile as she grabbed hold of the mic.

“Good evening ladies and gentleman! Before we get started, I would like to say something. Yesterday, most of you probably saw me here and even heard me sing a song or two. Well, as you also may know, there was someone here, a female someone, who also sang a song,” Tara looked out at the crowd and rolled her eyes. “Ok, so, a lot of girls sang here last night. But! This one, this very special one, caught my interest.” At the mention of this, the blonde saw the red head perk up a bit. “So, this song is dedicated to her, and in hopes I build up the courage to ask her out.” Tara turned around to check if the other members of her group were ready. When she was given the OK, she turned again to face the audience. “Alright, girls!

3.
Hit it!

I was a ghost from outer space
Alien to the human race
I felt a tear inside my chest
Love at first sight I was obsessed

Now I am dancing in the rain
And I just hope she knows my name
I finally feel alive

Tara locked eyes with the red head

I want to look into your eyes
I want to sail between your thighs
I want to grab you by the tail
And pray to god my hands don’t fail

I want to be with you the most
Be near you like the Holy Ghost
I finally feel alive

I want to push it out
I want to scream and shout
I want to push it out
You make me feel like heaven is-”

Tara stepped back and let the back up singer take the spot light.

“Here tonight
You led me to the light
‘Cause it’s real
And I feel
That if I died I’d be alright

Here tonight lord!
You led me to the light
‘Cause it’s real
And I feel
That if I died I’d be alright”

Tara again took center stage as she pressed the mic to her lips.

“You made me turn another page
Open me up to better days
I hope you hear just how I feel
So we can really make this real

I want to live tonight
I want to live tonight
I finally feel alive

I want to push it out
I want to scream and shout
I want to push it out
You make me feel like heaven is”

Once again the back up singer took the stage as Tara let her sing her part.

“Here tonight
You led me to the light
‘Cause it’s real
And I feel
That if I died I’d be alright

Here tonight
You led me to the light
‘Cause it’s real
And I feel
That if I died I’d be alright”

The music was cut and the crowd was at it again, clapping their hands off as the band took a bow.

Ohmygoddess! Willow’s brain was working in overdrive. Was she looking at me? I think she was looking at me? I shouldn’t get my hopes up though… but I’m pretty damn sure she was looking at me. And that song ooooo, Willow shivered. Let’s just say, if I wasn’t gay then, she laughed. I mean- her inner rambling was cut short as her goddess began to speak.

“Ok maybe that wasn’t such a good song… I think I might scare the person I’m trying to serenade,” Tara smiled. “So, let me at least redeem myself by dedicating this next song to her as well. And I promise after this, I will ask my mystery girl out.”

Again Tara checked to make sure her band members were ready before proceeding to center stage. Instead of verbally counting down this time, she raised her hand in the air to gesture each number. One. Two. Three.

“I see you standing here
But you’re so far away
I’m starving for you’re attention
You don’t even know my name
You’re going through so much
But I know that I, could be the one
To hold you

Every single day
I find it hard to say I
Could be yours alone
You will see some day
That all along the way I
Was yours to hold
I was yours to hold

I see you walking by
Your hair always hot in your face
I wonder why you’ve been hurting
I wish I had some way to say
You’re going through so much
don’t you know that I
Could be the one
To hold you

Every single day
I find it hard to say I
Could be yours alone
You will see some day
That all along the way I
Was yours to hold
I was yours to hold

I’m stretching but you’re just out of reach
I’m ready when you’re ready for me
And I’m waiting for the right time
For the day I catch your eye
To let you know that I’m yours to hold

Every single day
I find it hard to say I
Could be yours alone
You will see some day
That all along the way I
Was yours to hold
I was yours to hold

Every single day
I find it hard to say I
Could be yours alone
You will see some day
That all along the way I
Was yours to hold
I was yours to hold

I’m stretching but you’re just out of reach
I’m ready when you’re ready for me

The crowd began to applaud again as Tara jumped off the stage and began to make her way through the crowd.

Ohmygoddess she’s coming in this direction!

The crowd seemed to move out of her way as if she was Moses parting the Red Sea. Until finally she stood in front of Willow.

Ohmygoddessohmygoddessohmygoddessohmygoddesohmygodd-

“You’re Willow Rosenberg, right?”

Essohmygoddessohmygoddessohmygoddessohmygoddessohmy

“Would you, uh, go on a date with me tomorrow?”

Goddessohmygoddess… Oh I think she’s looking for an answer.

“Uhm, I think I broke her…”

Willow had to do something. The girl of her dreams was waiting for an answer. The audience was waiting for an answer. Hell! She was waiting for an answer. But at this particular time her voice decided it wanted to leave her, for once in her life, speechless. But the girl was still waiting for an answer, so she nodded. Tara gave a sideways smile before placing a small piece of paper with her phone number in it.

“Call me tomorrow,” Tara winked and turned towards the stage.

“Wait!” Willow had found her voice at last. “I- uh… don’t think I got your name…”

Tara turned around to face the red head again. “So the song was right,” Tara laughed. “You don’t even know my name,” she sang a line from her song. “It’s Tara, Tara Maclay.” And with that, the blonde jumped back on stage as the band began to pick up to another song.

“In my car I just can’t wait
To pick you up on our very first date
Is it cool if I hold your hand?
Is it wrong if I think it’s lame to dance

Do you like my stupid hair?
Would you guess that I didn’t know what to wear?
I am scared of what you think
You make me nervous so I really can’t eat

Let’s go
Don’t wait
This nights almost over
Honest
Let’s make
This night last forever
Forever
And ever
Let’s make this last forever

When you smile I melt inside
I’m not worthy for a minute of your time…”

“Tara…” the red head sat, practicing the name out loud. And her smile couldn’t have been bigger.

________________________________________________________________________

The party was over and the band was cleaning up there equipment.

“Yo, T!” Another blonde yelled to Tara who was busy with the mic.

“What is it this time, Buffy?” Tara didn’t even look at the other girl, she just kept at what she was doing. This of course didn’t go unnoticed by the other girl.

“What’s it gonna look like when you start dating that red headed nerd! You’re gonna drag the image of the band down!” Buffy shoved Tara.

“Listen, B,” Tara shoved the offending blonde back against the wall. “Number one, Don’t! Tell me what to do. Number two! She’s smart, so she can help my grades. And then I get to play with her a bit… so let me have my fun.”

Yay for updates! Sorry about the delay! Enjoy!

Alright the songs in this chapter are!

Yay for great update-y goodness... I really really hope that Tara's comment about using Willow just to get better grades was just an act...

Sorry about not updating for a while, been a little distracted but I'm currently working on the third chapter now! It's gonna be shorter then the other chapters in a way but that is because I am backing away from the songs for this chapter and maybe the next. So now for some feedback replies!

I'll sum up Zampsa1975's, sadie's and arsyadriani in one go: I'm still not quite sure where I'm going with this story but I got a pretty set layout, so stick to it and see if she really means what she said.

marlaman22: Could be, stay tuned to find out

Anyway, that's it for now... Ill be back with the next update sometime.... uhhhh.... later
:blush

Sing Your Heart Out

Chapter 3: Symphony of Feelings~ Part 1

86-

“Argh!” *click*

865-4-

“Damn it!” *click*

865-430...

“Stupid Rosenberg!” *click*

“You’re never gonna get a date with her if you don’t actually dial the number, Red,” Faith sat up from her ‘Watch Willow’ spot on her bed.

“I know, I know… I’m just… I’m just, preparing myself, I mean this could be the biggest step of my life. Who knows where this may take me, I mean she could be, the one. We could get married, grow old to-”

“And none of that will happen because you can’t pick up the phone and dial seven freaking numbers!”

“Ok, ok! I get it. This time for sure,” Willow said reaching for the phone. Taking a deep breath, she quickly dialed the seven digit number before she could regret it.

*ring*

*ring*

*click*

“Maybe next time?” Willow turned sheepishly to Faith and smiled.

“Jesus, Red!” Faith sighed getting up and heading out the door. “You are hopeless.”

Willow slouched down in her seat and sighed.

This was going to be a long night.

________________________________________________________________________

*Ring ring*

Willow awoke from her sleep slouched at her desk. Disoriented, she looked around and quickly wiped the drool from her chin. When the phone rang for the fourth time, she reluctantly answered it.

“Hello?” Willow asked groggily.

“Hi, uhm, this is Tara Maclay, is Willow there?”

“Tara!?” Willow’s state of shock almost caused the girl to drop the phone. She quickly recovered and all trace of drowsiness near vanished. “This is Willow,” she said in the most unenthusiastic voice she could muster. “How did you get my number? I mean, I don’t remember giving it to you, wait… this isn’t another dream is it?”

“Well, there is a little something called caller I.D. and for some reason someone from this number called me six times, let the phone ring once, and then hung up.”

“Actually, it was eight... But who’s counting?”

“Ah, so you know about these mysterious phone calls?”

“Uh, um, various sounds of hesitation,” Willow laughed nervously but smiled when she heard Tara laugh as well.

“You kept hanging up before I could get to the phone.”

“Well, officially, I have to say I have no idea what you’re talking about…”

“Unofficially?” Tara asked in a husky voice that made Willow go weak at the knees.

“Well, I called, or attempted to at least because, you know, our date tomorrow night? And you kind of told me to… but if you changed your mind, that’s cool too. Cause I’m all with th-”

“Do you normally do that?”

“Do what?”

“Go minutes without breathing? Look, I’m not calling to cancel our date, I’m calling to reschedule it… if that’s alright?”

“Oh, ok. If you don’t mind me asking, why do you want to reschedule? And if I’m crossing the line you just tell me and I will jump back faster then you can say ‘shpadoinkle!”

“No, it’s just, you see, our psych 101 teacher, Ms. Walsh have us like, a ton of homework. What with the band and all, I won’t have any time but tomorrow to do it, I hope you don’t mind.” Tara was hesitant.

“No, not at all. Like I always say, a quality education is second to none.”

“You always say that?”

“Yeah, kind of… Ok, I know, I’m a complete dork…”

“I wouldn’t call you c dork, quirky, maybe. And besides, I think it’s kind of cute.”

“Really?” Willow’s face lit up. “Anyway, I took psych 101, last semester, I could, you know, help you with your work? And if I’m overstepping the line, again, jest tell me… Remember ‘shpadoinkle.”

“Really?!” You would? That would be great!” Willow breathed a sign of relief at Tara’s excitement to seeing her. But Willow couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something else in Tara’s voice, a completely different reason for wanting to see her.

“Alright, how about if I come over about 4ish?”

“Yeah, I don’t have class tomorrow anyway.”

“Alright, sounds great.”

“Ok, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the more pressing matter at hand… You have dreams with me in it?” Willow could hear the curiousness in Tara’s voice as she said this.

“Um… Uh…”

Damn, am I in for it

Sing Your Heart Out

Chapter 4: Letting it all out

There isn’t much I remember about my mom, she died when I was four. The things I do remember about her though, are burned into my mind and are so vivid, it’s like it was only yesterday.

“What are some of the things you remember about your mom?”

Her smile, she could walk into a room and it would shine with the radiance of it. My dad couldn’t resist it either because when she was alive is the only time I remember him smiling.

Her laugh is one of the things I remember most about because she has one of the best sense of humors… or at least I think so, cause she was always laughing.

But the thing I remember most about her, is her singing. When I close my eyes, it’s almost like she’s sitting next to me… like she never had to go away. She use to sing to me, every night before I would go to bed.

But nothing good ever stays, ya know? It’s just the way the world works. The only thing I’ve learned from all of this? Use it while you can. Just like the way the doctors used my mother… As soon as they had sucked all the money from her, they stopped giving her the medicine she needed to live… and they slowly began sucking the life from her.

“How was your family life after your mother’s death?”

Well, our family never was the same again, it was broken. Mom’s death sent dad a little crazy. I guess he blamed me for her death because he spent the next year beating it into me. I stayed by his side, cause that’s what family does, right? I was a good girl and didn’t tell anyone, I hid my bruises well. Then, one day, daddy went to far and I went to school the next day with a black eye. No matter how good I was, I couldn’t hide a black eye.

But still, I tried, because daddy still loved me, right?

I covered for him, even when the teacher pulled me aside and asked where the black eye came from.

I fell down the stairs, daddy was there to help me very quickly, I had told her, I even made up the part about daddy to make it sound more believable. And it worked, or so I thought it had as the teacher let me rejoin the class.

“And that was the end of this?”

No, the next day, I was pulled completely out of the class and made to go in a room where some knuckle-headed women named Candice was there, said she worked with DCF. I answered her questions to the best of my abilities, hell I was only five.

When I was done, the lady got up and walked me to the door.

“Everything will be alright,” she had said with a faux smile plastered on her face. And I didn’t believe a word she said.

That weekend, I saw the cop cars pull into our driveway, along with a black car. I was standing in the front yard at the time, so I took off into the house.

Daddy! Daddy! There’s cops here!” He looked at me, then to the door, got up and walked right passed me without saying a word. I stood there as the cops issued his arrest and then that women came for me, she began to take me out to the black car. And when I looked back at him, I saw nothing. No surprise, no sadness. And that’s when I knew… Daddy didn’t love me anymore.

“And what did that do to you?”

In that moment, I realized my childhood was done. At the age of five I had to mature to the point where this wouldn’t emotionally scar me for the rest of my life. But I don’t know if it worked.

“And that was all your negative experience?”

No, it didn’t end there. The foster family I was stuck with, the MacArthur’s… they were by far the worse scum on this earth.

They treated me as if I didn’t exist. Sure, the fed me and made sure I was clothed and all, but from beyond that point… I was just a maid to them… oh and weekly government check.

About a year after I came to live with them, another child was taken under their care… her name was Amy.

“Amy, tell me about her.’

Amy wasn’t exactly the nicest child they could have gotten… or she could have been just really shy. Either way, she made a habit of not talking to anyone. For weeks, she didn’t say anything, she kept to herself, even in school.

“And what happened to Amy?”

One day, I became fed up with it… I went up to her and very clearly asked her what her problem was.

“And what did she do?”

She just… looked at me. And I did the very first thing that came to my mind… I punched her. And… she looked at me, and did that last thing I ever expected… she laughed.

And the next thing I knew… I was laughing too. Since then we have been inseparable.

So, that’s how we went through our school years. Together, we passed elementary, middle and high school by the skin of our teeth. Not to mention breaking almost every school rule imaginable along the way.

And then came college…

It was our chance to get away from our foster family. An all expense paid vacation away from them! We took it, of course. And that’s where we met Buffy and Anya.

“Who?”

The other members of our band.

“So your other friends?”

I wouldn’t exactly call them friends, especially Buffy. As a matter of fact, I hate Buffy.

“So why do you hang out with her?”

Status, maybe? Buffy is the biggest bad ass in the school.

“And the other girl, Anya?”

Anya is alright, just don’t really talk to her that much.

“Alright, Ms. Maclay, your time is up. Great session today. Same time next week?”

“Sure,” Tara said as she got up from her chair and walked for the door. Opening it, she took one last look at her psychiatrist, and closed the door.

I'll get you next time, Gadget. *fist thwump scares cat* NEXT TIIIME!

Congrats on the completion of your chapter and the continuation of your story.

Start the next race! (^_')b

I liked the use of the psychiatrist Q/A to sum up a lot of back story in a little space. My only question is: how does Tara have a psychiatrist? Is this state/gov't-funded, as well? A requirement for her, or something she does willingly?

It's a good set-up; I can see the story going lots of ways from here. Also nice that Tara does have a bond with somebody, even if it results in a lot of troublemaking. ^_^

It's been lovely talking with you on the Kitten Chat. Hope I keep finding you there.

Great story! Definitely interested in how differently you've portrayed Tara from most stories. I wonder if she's really planning to use Willow, or if she just wants her friends to think that.

I'm looking forward to more! :)

Author: MelCar19 (Melissa) :Kitty
Rating: Uhhh PG-13? T for teen? Sure we'll go with those.
Disclaimer: The plot is my idea, I think. Everything else belongs to Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. Also the songs belong to the artists that created them.

Summary: AU~~ Heartbroken, Willow is lead to a school sponsored club by her head strong roommate, Faith. There she lays witness to something that may just change her life, forever.
Notes: Updates may come few and far between because I have to keep it a secret from my friend. Long story, if you want I'll explain it to you next chapter.

Sing Your Heart Out

Chapter 5: Two sided story

“Can you believe it, Amy? I have a job. Me! A job! And at a hospital of all places,” Tara paced back and forth, a cell phone in between her neck and shoulders.

“A job is a job, Tara. You need the money, and they are willing to provide you with it,” came the voice from the other line.

“Yeah but still..”

“What? I got one too.”

“Yeah, but I work at a hospital and I have to be nice to people… you just clean.”

“Like I said, a job’s a job.”

Tara let out a sigh as she finally stopped pacing.

“I know, just hospitals give me the creeps, ok?

“Fair enough, I can understand that… so let’s change the subject, shall we? How did your study date with Willow go?”

“Ugh! Please don’t call it that,” Tara sighed.

“Why, isn’t that what she thinks it was?”

“Yeah… well, she basically did all my homework for me, which is completely awesome… and all I had to do was bat my eyelashes a little and say in my most innocent voice ‘ I don’t understand how to do this, Willow. Can you help me please?” Tara did her impression of herself earlier that night. “Then, being who she is, her eyes lit up and she dove right into my homework.”

“You know, Tara…”

“… I don’t like where this is going… you never start a sentence with ‘You know, Tara’ without it leading somewhere bad.”

“Look, I don’t like the way you’re using Willow. She’s a nice girl.”

“I thought we already dealt with this, Amy?”

“Yeah, you said your piece so let me say mine. Willow’s a nice girl, and I don’t want to see her get crushed. I don’t understand why it had to be this way. I’m sure if you approached her as a friend, she would have gladly helped you…”

“Yeah, but where’s the fun in that?” Tara asked sounding a little annoyed.

“Using people shouldn’t be fun, Tara. It ca-”

Tara snapped the phone shut and threw it on her bed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Willow walked into her dorm room wearing a goofy grin and carrying her books as if she had not a care in the world. Faith looked up from her magazine to see Willow flop down on her own bed with a happy sigh.

“So, I take it your date with the amazing Tara went well and all?” Faith asked with a raised eyebrow.

“It wasn’t a date,” Willow explained. Faith just looked at her for a moment with a ‘You have got to be kidding me’ face on. “Alright, I suppose it could be called a study date, but nothing more than that!”

“Stop being so modest, Red. You were to damn sexy and Tara couldn’t resist you, right?”

“No, no,” Willow waved her arms to dismiss the subject. “It was nothing like that, we just… studied. I helped her with her assignments and she was grateful.”

“Wow, Red. You know how too get down.” Faith turned her attention back to her magazine.

“Well, we talked, but we just met the other day and none of us want to rush things. But I feel good, I feel like we really connected.”

“Borrrinnngg!” Faith said with a yawn.

“Did I mention the part where we showered together?”

Faith’s eyes lit up as she jumped from her spot on the bed. “Really?”

“Gotcha!” Willow said with a smile. “Just kidding”

This one is short, I know but I couldn't think of much else to include here. I'll have feedback replies soon, but for now I need sleep.

My feedback today comes in two pieces:

The nitpicking / proofreading portion

"snapped the fun shut" --> phone. Heheh.

"You were to damn sexy" --> too

“Wow, Red. You know how to get down,” Faith turned

Check out "Scoobies teach grammar!" thread for notes on speech punctuation. It's best to halt this misuse as early as possible.

The actual content of the story portion

Ooo, Tara's working at a hospital. ^_^ Does this tie in to our convo in the chat room, last month?

Man, oh man. Tara's kind of a...well, a jerk. We've been given a window into a none-too-happy upbringing for her, but...still. Poor Willow.

Oh, and I loved the ending of this chapter. Willow, you little vixen...

So what happens next?

Ok replies to your feedback...

Zampsa1975: You never know about that, it might not be Willow who helps Tara in the end ;-)

Sadie: Thanks! I hope this update is somewhat good

Juju: *Waves* I believe you owe me something now :sh And well, my friend found out and now she has to read everything I write before it is posted, makes her feel special or something.

Megan: >.< Looks like you got me next time, and the time after that as well. *Defeated* Usually the state will fund the psychiatrist, but it is not a requirement to go. It's an "if you want too, it's there" sort of deal.

And thanks for all your inspiration in the KB chat! Couldn't have gotten these last two chapters up without you *Pokes you*

Oh and thanks for the corrections, I was real tired last night. Not to mention I got my nails done ( I was forced by my best friends puppy dog eyes) And it's really hard to type with nails :blush

Mixxie: Thanks! I noticed in most stories I have read here on the KB have Willow being the one to mess up and fix it somehow, I just wanted to mix things up a little for those of you who read my story. And I hope this chapter clears up your other question ;-)

Willow_tara_always: Thanks, I hope this update is sufficient enough :blush

onlykaren: Thanks, I'm curious to know where I am going with this story as well :blush

Anyway, thanks to everyone who puts up with me and reads, you people are the best :party

Sorry about the late feedback replies :blush
