Tim! I don't have anything Kitten related.. .so this first opportunity... i took it and kinda went wild with the printing.... two mugs... people were staring at me. At least the printers were.

Xita! I wasn't sure if anyone liked it at first. Then i showed the pics to some kittens i talk to daily... and it got good feedback. *looks around* Ruth wants one :grin It can't be displayed because my family don't allow it. So I have closet case mugs. I didn't know mugs could be gay . :laugh

Mugs for non profit sales

Postby Shinnen » Fri Jan 17, 2003 7:39 am

Okay... I know that I can't sell the printed mugs because the w/t photos on them aren't mine. But I am willing to print the mugs for anyone who wants them. They just have to pay for the print cost (which includes the mugs and print labor at the printers) and postal which depends on the country it's being sent to.

if anyone wants these mugs... you have a choice of the pictures printed on them, hopefully one of my art pieces :grin

because i have the raw files to customise them as well as make them better resolution for printing.

Price of the mugs vary according to how many mugs are gonna get printed at any one time. It ranges from USD 6 to USD 10 depends on how many ordered.

Postage would vary from country to country.

If anyone is interested, email me for more details or order if you want one. I'm willing to take kinda donations too :D just joking... :laugh seriously now... if anyone still wants a printed mug. Email me at shinnen@sammimail.com

Now... NO MONEY IS MADE FROM THESE MUGS GETTING PRINTED.

My Business Card

Postby Shinnen » Wed Feb 26, 2003 10:00 am

I have a request... if this isn't a correct post... the mods are welcome to delete this post. I'm just asking for opinion for my collaboration with another 2 professionals (who say my design is ugly and unprofessional) in starting a freelance agency. Please give me your most brutally honest answer. Tell me if you think there are other ways to improve it. The material the card will be printed on is semi transparent frosted 200gsm paper. The colors shown are to indicate to paper color. Thanks for looking at this.

The colours are okay.

The font for Shinnen would look better bigger. Maybe you could have the design wrap itslelf around the lettering of your name.

Re: My Business Card

Postby teabags » Wed Feb 26, 2003 2:27 pm

The orange one is easier to read than the red, imo.

I like the irregular composition, but I'm not crazy about the black swirls. The idea is good, but I just don't like the current image; it's too dense, parts of it are too sharp, and it throws the off balance . If the swirls were thinner and rounder, it might work better. I agree with SJ, perhaps having it wrap around your name would work better - it would create a flow.

The font you used for your name and the services at the bottom is good, but I think the other font (for the number and freelancer) might be what the other people you’re working with consider "unprofessional" (btw, I think that’s a lil’ harsh). When I’m designing print publications, I generally don’t use more than one "fancy font" unless it’s some crazy project that needs the frivolity and kookiness. I think you should opt for a simple sans serif like Arial, Helvetica, Trebuchet, etc…I hope that helps. I also hope I wasn’t too harsh. When people tear apart my work I feel like crap, especially when they dig into stuff I think looks great.

I do really like your concept & the irregular composition and colors. When I get business cards that are different but not too weird, I make sure to keep them (last week a woman gave me her card – black stock with white text… sooo sexy) :)

Re: My Business Card

Postby elessar007 » Wed Feb 26, 2003 5:07 pm

I want to qualify my opinion by making sure you know that I have never worked as a graphic designer nor have I had formal training as such.

Regarding color, I would choose the orange. With the red there is not enough contrast(although that might just be jpeg artifacts blurring the text). Keeping in mind you will be printing on semi-transparent frosted stock I think maintaining a high level of contrast is important.

I agree with teabags so far as the font you used for your name. It is slightly narrow and tall which works well with the dimensions of the card. It is also vaguely similar to the bramble swirls in the upper left. The change in font for your number and 'freelancer' is visually disruptive. I personally would not even put the word 'freelancer' under my name. Upon reading your card I would be thinking "Freelancer? Freelancer in what?" The answer only becomes apparent when you get to the bottom. And at the bottom is where I would incorporate what I do with the fact that I do it as a freelancer. I hope that makes sense. If you were to move the word freelancer to the bottom then the change in font with the numbers isn't as obvious.

I would also detach my name from the black swirls. I would drop it down about half a centimeter and then center your name with numbers below instead of offset to the right of the card's vertical axis.

Those are my suggestions/opinions. I hope they can be of some help. Good luck with your agency and I hope you are successful beyond your dreams.

Yahoo IM Skin

Postby elessar007 » Sat Mar 15, 2003 9:36 am

Thanks for making this skin.

I installed it and it looks great. But there are a few glitches. The buttons for the user status have a ring of magenta that looks like a halo. It kind of looks like you pasted the button onto a magenta field but anti-aliased the image so it would blend better. This leaves a number of pixels with color readings like R:255 G:51 B:255. These individual pixels then give that halo effect around the buttons.

The 'message', 'chat', 'mobile', and 'add' buttons work seamlessly as tiles. The lettering however is a little blurry. Again, it seems as if anti-aliasing was used when adding text to the image.

I hope I don't sound overly critical. I really do appreciate you making this skin. I use Yahoo IM so it's nice to have such wonderful images to look at rather than the bland default that it comes with. Thanks again.

thanks for the feedback scott. I actually did notice these glitches. I'm working on them now...well... not now because I've got a client's work to do. But yeah... anti aliasing will be fixed... and maybe I'll reduce the size of the color orbs because someone commented that it was a tad large.

Postby xita » Sun Mar 16, 2003 2:21 am

Shinnen that is flat out the best w/t yahoo skin I have seen. The most important thing in a yahoo skin is that the graphics don't get in the way of the program and its functions. The buttons are inobtrusive and the colors blend well together. Friend's names can be seen and the status make sense because of your color schemes. I am not left guessing what an icon means as is often the case with skins. These are the most important things I look at in skins and for the first time I am happy with a yahoo skin. I challenge anyone to do a better job.

New Sketch

Postby Shinnen » Tue Dec 16, 2003 8:00 pm

OOOOOOOOokie.. I haven't done this in a long time. But I decided to post this lil sketch i did a few months back. I hope it's not too bad. it is an unfinished piece of drawing that I thought of Willow and Tara. Even Willow and Tara's kids (if they have twins :lol would look like that in my twisted mind)

To reply to the mods and Jennifer for the yahoo skin. I think it was a good try. I might get maybe 2 more yahoo skins done. Cos I see new Aly and Amber pictures that i never touched. I'm glad I got great feedback for the Yahoo Skins.
