Sketches based on the Sidestep Chronicle

Postby KyanWing » Mon Aug 19, 2002 9:54 am

I've sketched some images of VW/W and Tara that got into my head while I was reading SC. I would like to share them with you. Hope you like what you see. There's a bit of nudity in sketches 1, 2 and 5a and none in the rest.

To view the pictures you need to copy and paste the links below into your address bar:

Geocities can be a pain - you'll need to copy and paste the links into your address bar. It worked for me!

Nice sketches BTW

Told you the Kittens would like them...

They are lovely*S* The third one, in the circle, is more - I think - what is coming in the story than what already is...

Thanks for sharing them,

Wow, you've really captured VWillow's expressions in the first one. So predatory.

I always think that, mollyig, when I see the incredible talent that visits this board.

These are very sensual pictures, really capturing the essence of that relationship. Fantastic. :)

Wow indeed. It always gives me a thrill when a fic inspires artwork because it means people are being inspired by each other and we create the new canon. That's the way I feel but yes the predatory look, very good. You got it down.

Wow KyanWing those drawings are amazing! I really love the sensual tone of the pics, and I agree you capture VW's predatory look in the first two drawings so well. Really I look at these drawings, and I can so see Tara and VW of Katharyn's story, well done!

Oh, these are really beautiful! All of them are so sensual and intimate. BTW, you do great hands – it’s so hard to get that natural look, and their hands are so delicate and realistic. Hope you plan to post more pics in the future. Thanks! :)

Wow! That went really well :-))) I logged off and got far away from the computer after starting this thread. I did sneak in a peek twice. I feel kind of silly about that right now and also about blushing beetred right here this moment... Thank you all so much for the wonderful responses you Kittens are the greatest!

AmberBensonRockzMyWorld: Thank you for your kind words! I didn't know Geocities was such a hassle to link to... Sorry about that.

Warduke: Thank you :-))) I like that sketch a lot too. I liked the pose in the first sketch so much, I wanted to elaborate it. Sort of fill in the rest of Tara *grin* It was very difficult getting the poses right. My lap was filled with eraser dust by the time I was starting to get slightly happy about it.

wizpup: Thanks :-))) I'm happy you like them.

Katharyn: You were right the Kittens like them. I'm so happy right now. It's your story that inspired me to draw these sketches. Thank you for sharing... first.

Yes, that's real Willow in the third sketch. I'll have another sketch ready tonight. I like this one a lot. You'll recognize the scene. It's not exactly how you have written it, but close I think.

mollyig: Thank you very much :-))) I've been having the hardest time to get VWillow look like VWillow and now real Willow. It's really hard 'cause when naked and not in vamp mode she looks almost exactly the same as real Willow (with dark make up and paler complexion).

tommo: Thank you for your praise :-))) I started out having them wearing sleeping shirts, then replaced them with bedsheets and in the end covering them up with their hair (they had really big hair, there was a lot of hair...*shudder*)... I'm was so afraid the drawing would look racy. I love sensual, I'm sooo glad you saw sensual!

xita: Wow! It's you! Thank you :-))) This board is filled with all kind of inspiration and the wonderful people behind them. Thank you for providing this wonderful meeting place. I'm lucky to have found the Kittenboard.

Soul Unity: Oh, cute clappy hands smileys! Thank you *bow* I'm glad you like the sketches.

VampNo12: Thank you for your kind words :-))) I always read your feedback on SC. You're good!

Scout: Thank you :-))) Especially for noticing the hands. Portraits are my thing. I'm not used to sketching figures/bodies. I see the hands on a body like the eyes on a face, they can express so much. Yes, I'm working on a new one. I hope to post it tonight.

KittyKo: Thank you :-))) The third one is a really small picture compared to the rest. It started out as a doodle while I was trying to figure out the poses on the second sketch. Glad you like it.

Wow! I've said this before... you are absolutely a drawing genius! :bounce I love the third piece... it would make a very beautiful cover if you were to print the fic out. :D

Again... your illustration skills are superb!

Interesting point Shinnen... as the damn fool who has actually printed the fic (no one else try it... it is way too big) I was searching for a cover.

This may solve my problem. See Kyan... more good*S* Also interested to you have more drawings coming*S*

Shinnen: Thank you for your wonderful words of praise :-))) Wow, you're making my head grow really big ;-)

I really like the third one. It's just so tiny.

Katharyn: I'd be very honoured if you use that picture but the third drawing is really small actually. It's an 'outgrown' doodle. I can send you a printable scan if you like, but I have a better idea. Why don't you tell me what you'd like to see on the cover? Maybe I can work something out. I don't know for sure, but it'd be a nice project. Think about it?

Just out of curiosity: how many pages does SC count?

The links to the new sketches are in the first post.

Hope you like them :-)))

Re: Sketches based on the Sidestep Chronicle

Postby Katharyn » Tue Aug 20, 2002 2:27 pm

*Cough*

Oh my... I forget what number part that is but I do remember it... the famous couch... (Just looked it up... the end of part 49... god that was a while ago now*S*) See I like couches and writing scenes on them. Funny that is just how I saw it too*S* Scary... and wow.

Ohhhh...

Stunning... I cannot believe how you capture those moments and bring them to life... and MKF is so tiny too!

As for how big is Sidestep... ? Well up to part 74 which is coming next 855 pages. 950 where I am up to in my writing and I fully expect to add another 100 pages or more to that... so don't print it!

As for your generous offer... well I'll tell you what... you see what you think. You see where this is going and then you do what you think - if you would like to. As I have said all along this is not a VW/T story... which is why I liked pic 3 for those purposes. Or if you like... you can try and "force me" to include another pose*S* This time in W/T stuff... Still trying my best for pic 1/2... only one place for it to go though which is sort of specific. But I am trying.

Stopping now as I am aware of cross-fertilizing these threads... people should be just able to enjoy your wonderful artwork here instead of my witterings.

Beautifully done.

These are great. You've definitely captured the mood of the fic. I've gotten behind in this fic and these make me want to hurry up and read more.

Kyan I just saw your latest sketches, and wow comes to mind! Just beautiful, I look at these drawings and I can so see that scene Katharyn wrote in her fic. Really the sketches are so vivid/expressive, you truly bring those characters to life with these, and I am amazed/impressed by your talent (I on the other hand be lucky to draw a stick figure). I look forward to any other sketches you care to share on the board, and also thanks for liking my feedback on Katharyn's fic.

Katharyn: Thank you :-))) I'm happy you like them. The couch scene is one of my favourite scenes in SC. I tend to start out trying different poses and ending up not being able to choose and draw two or more pictures instead of one. LOL.

I see your point: VW/T is the journey and W/T the destination. I'll keep on reading and come up with more ideas.

I can't believe I have read over 800 pages. I don't think I own a book that big...

Thanatopsis: Thank you for your kind words :-))) I think you'll have a great time catching up. Go and enjoy more SC!

VampNo12: Aw, thank you :-))) You're making me blush big time! I'll be bold (and a big show off) and take this little opportunity to advertise my web site at www.geocities.com/stllr/wt_drawings.html

It's Geocities so you'll probably have to copy and paste that link into your address bar to see the page. And yes, mostly Willow and Tara drawings in there *big grin*

Xita: Thanks :-))) Everybody loves the SC couch scene. That one scene really had been staying in my head since I read it the first time.

Magrat70: Thank you for your praise :-))) I'm reading your fic Passion Never Dies and loving it. I will go delurk there soon.

mollyig: Thank you :-))) I guess that's the only time VWillow is more like real Willow...

Kyan, I've been looking at some of your work on your website. I love the one of Willow and Tara kissing, and in the one called "back hug", you've captured Tara's half smile perfectly.

Oh Kyan, I am so glad you decided to be "bold," and post the link to your site! These sketches are just beautiful, I am so in awe of the kind of talent you clearly demonstrate with these drawings. I truly love them all, but I must say I was mesmerized by the drawings of "Catnip problem, Dance, and Willowhand". You depict those moments so well, they are just so expressive (especially love how you capture perfectly Willow's facial/awwwww moment in "Catnip problem"). Really looking at these made me remember the happy moments between W&T, so thanks for making me :grin and :) !

Kyan, you have some serious talent here! I loved Sleep, Catnip, and Dance. And you do a wonderful Taragrin!

And the Xander/Anya and Buffy drawings were amazing. Your line work is so beautiful and it really captures their personalities.

Thanks so much for sharing your site and your drawings with us. :)

Good feedback is amazing. It's a great way to start a morning. I feel fully charged, all loaded with power. I'm now on a feedback crusade. I will give feedback back as much as I can. No more lurking. Everybody should go feedback. This would go boom with updates and new stories because all the writers are energized like the battery bunnies. Wish there is more than 24 hours in a day for feedback, reading and sketching and some other stuff that's real life... I'm so hyper I should have stayed off coffee today!

I've sketched another SC scene last night. I think it's from somewhere around part 39/40 I think. It's gonna be posted later today when I'm done cleaning it up.

**Edited to add:

Just posted the link to the latest SC sketch to the first message. It took me longer than I thought. I made lots of last minute changes. Hope you like the result. Working on a follow up scene :-)

Vamp nurd: Thank you for visiting my web site and for your kind words :-)))

Sorry about the links not working. Copy and paste into the address bar didn't work?

mollyig: Thank you for taking your time to look at my other sketches :-)))

I love drawing Willow and Tara together. It's hard to draw two faces in one picture and keep them the same size... It's good practice for me and W and T makes it fun even :-)

Tara's half smile is da bomb!

Magrat70: Thank you for checking out my other drawings. I'm happy you like them :-)))

WebWarlock: Thank you for letting me know you like my work :-) I appreciate that a lot.

I've dropped by your web site. You have a very informative Willow and Tara section (that's the first thing I checked out. hehehe). Great job!

VampNo12: Thank you for visiting my web site and for your beautiful words of praise :-)))

I was looking for Miss Kitty pictures (there are sooo few... I think they're all different cats too). Then I came across this beautiful picture and simply couldn't resist sketching it. Took me many tries to get it right, but it was worth it. I'm glad they brought back happy W&T moments :-) It's a pleasure to draw W&T. They're simply perfect together...

Scout: Thank you for taking your time to look at my work and for commenting on them! Thanks :-))) I love the Taragrin! In fact, I aim to master the Taragrin! LOL

Seriously, I'm working on a less sketchy and bigger drawing of Back Hug and Willowhand. And there's sooo much that I want to do right now...
