I remember coming to kent back in 1984
When The A-team, airwolf (with Ernest Borgnine), Street-hawk, Worzel Gummage (a kid's show about a scarecrow that came to life) and saturday morning cartoon's were my favorite t.v show's
When the voice of Stan Lee introduced an hour of super hero cartoon's

When we played in the wood's or rode our bmx's

When the police still looked like copper's & less like SWAT team's
And the sight of a police officer in uniform made even law abiding ppl nervous
When you got a smack around the ear or across your backside from your mum & your big sister in my case & when they were still allowed to do it!

I remember those traditional kitchens some mauritian families had preserved even during the post independence period. They would cook food on firewood outside and it had been a real treat at my grandmother's place, especially when she would allow me to blow through the "poukni" for keeping the fire crackling. It had been so tiring doing that all the time but it was great fun warming up by the fire during the winter season and feeling like a nomad.

I remember coming home from school and seeing the people moving freely between east & west Germany
They opened the border crossing's to West German's only at first, then limited number's of East German's
They allowed more and more people through each day
Until one day they fully opened check point charlie and it seemed like half of Germany was there
I can still see the russian guard's getting angry at their East German comrade's for letting too many people across the border
Then the Berlin wall came down & East Germany was free
The Soviet Union fell next
This meant that my uncle could visit his native hungary again for the first time in 30+ years
