Wear a button that says "hi, I'm new here" LoL
Shyness alwas an issue, but hey, in my world you can meet nice people by hiding behind your hair and giving a shy half-smile.

When in Mardi Gras for you?
(it was last week in France, or so I've been told in those exact term "Mardi Gras was when you were in New York so we couldn't eat crepes" lol)

Have fun anyway :)

FYI - before you guys thoroughly confuse pancakes/pride/religion any further, Mardi Gras in Sydney Australia = Gay Pride :pride

I was wandering what the pancakes thing was about :blush

Just so I get this right Mardi Gras isn't about Gay Pride all over the world?

My knowledge about where come from Mardi Gras is kinda thin but what I remember is that it is linked to the Christian Lent (not sure of the word?). Don't remember f it is before or after as my mother is highly atheist so I don't have much Christian knowledge.
Anyway the pancakes are about this.. Why do we dress up though? Don't know but it's neat!

How did it go in Sydney?

Can't speak for any other country, but Mardi Gras came to the US through the French Catholics in Louisiana. The day itself is the last day before Ash Wednesday & Lent and - as I understand it - is supposed to be your last chance for a while to overindulge in all those great things you're probably not supposed to be indulging in anyway. Being neither French nor Catholic, I find I can still enjoy it as a celebration of cheap whiskey and topless women.

Slightly off-topic, but I wish we had more festivals in the US. That was something I always enjoyed in Japan; not necessarily holidays, but a festival where people go out in the street and drink beer, dance, or whatever.
I spent most of my money on liquor and women,
The rest I wasted.

JujuDeRoussie It was awesome!!!I I'm not fond of big crowds but I am glad I made an exception for this :-D I was amazed at how much effort people put in to there costumes even if they weren't in the parade :pinky It was a great vibe all around, the only thing I didn't like was the amount of garbage left on the streets after it was all done that seriously blew my mind away all the broken glass and crap just every where *shakes head*

Dorothy turns out I didn't need a I'm new here button after all a couple of my friends surprised me and flew in for the event :pride plus ended up meeting some new people there with out button *lol* I think I am still on a high from the whole experience and maybe still recovering from it to :p

gorn not sure about religious aspect but we did have a pope mobile in the parade ;-) huh I always thought U.S would have lots of festivals and I have no I idea where I got that impression from
