August 13th-15th is the weekend of the Wizard World convention in Chigago where Amber will be. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I'm feeling something on the lines of August 13th-15th in Chicago. Not just because Amber is going to be there :eatme , but... well, that is a pretty good moving factor, heehee :party . But that is my opinion. I am not to worried where it is going to be. Just need a heads up because I may be leaving again, :gnome Anyhoo, I hope a decision is made soon. =)

Uh... San Francisco, any weekend, because if I don't get a job I'll have a lot of free time on my hands... and if I do get a job, I still don't know if I'll be working weekends.

Dear Lord, this is getting complicated. I can't decide. I guess I'm okay with whatever.

I do hope that we take into consideration who will be able to help out and coordinate the logistics of this gathering, that is, city info, hotel reservations/rates, sightseeing, drinking ( :grin ), dining, etc.

I do hope that xita is able to go, though. I wanna meet the Great Mama Kitten Moderator person (even though we disagree about CN on SVU-:lol ).

I live in San Francisco and I work in the hotel industry, so I just want to give you all some information about the dates in August. The Union contract for hotel workers expires on August 14, so there is a potential for most of the large chain hotels to be on strike after this date. If there is a strike, the hotels will still be open, but most will offer limited services and you will encounter picketers.

If SF is the choice, I would be happy to offer my services in coordinating rooms. I work for a large downtown property and will do what I can to try to get a decent rate at my own property or one of our sister hotels. The only weekend that works for me would be the first one in August, otherwise I will be consumed with strike plans.

Unfortunately I can't make it this year (and I can hear the chorus of "that's OK - who the hell are you anyway" :) ) but I had a couple of ideas.

It would pay to have a couple of people involved in organising individual parts as its alot for one person. Have someone organising accommodation (and it would be fantastic to have Tiggrscorpio do this if the weekend suits), someone else organising some activities (harbour cruise, Alcatraz, etc.) so you don't spend all weekend in Xita's room drinking :wink , and maybe someone to put together the initial 'meet and greet' and final dinner.

I have some stuff from last years gathering if it helps.

Have a fantastic time.

San Fran or wherever will be cool with me. Regarding dates, I can't 13-15 or 20-22..I got volenteered to work both Sundays (crap). I can do the following:

Friday-Sunday, July 30 - August 1

Friday-Sunday, August 6-8

Friday-Sunday, August 27-29

Just adding as a sidenote: I need to get out a little more... I'm seriously considering hitting some cities out there, anywhere. I have more than enough vaca time to use. I'm gonna use them dammit. Anyone want to chill with One Cute Kitty? heh :party

The latest weekend would be best for me, but I'll sure try to make it whenever works for everyone else. The location's become less of a factor for me than the timing, but I do still lean toward SF.

Looks like a big ol' soup of conflicting preferences here. :lol And that possible hotel strike is scary.

Anyone who's probably going, please post and let us know which location and date works best for you, if you haven't already.

Hard to say. Looks like there's no clear consensus on date or location. But it seems that a good many folks are already planning on being in Chicago that weekend, so there's obviously going to be something of a gathering there, just by default.

What are everyone's thoughts? People who voted for San Francisco or other locations besides Chicago, would you be able and willing to go to Chicago August 13-15? If not, would you be interested in trying to put together a gathering in San Francisco?

I will probably be in Chicago that weekend, the 13-15th I think. Both for the convention and just to visit family. A Gathering either Friday or Saturday would be great, though it sounds like Friday might be better.

Well, skittles has threatened to tie me up and throw me in the back of her car*, so barring a sudden "lifestyle change" (i.e., a job that takes me far away and keeps me busy---not that I might not like that), I'll be there in Chi-town.

er... GG, I will tie you up & throw you in the back of the car, if necessary... AND the only acceptable excuse would be job or job-hunt related... oh, ok, health related, too.. If you were dead, it would be kinda hard for me to explain to everyone your pale complexion & lack of heartbeat...... "err, GG doesn't move much when scared?? No, GG doesn't really talk much either..."

and can you see me trying to explain to the state police WHY I have a dead body in the back of my hatchback?? :grin

As long as I get the driver's seat, anyone can sit anywhere they want... (and I'm the ONLY one in the driver's seat.) Besides, no one wants to drive my "beater"... it needs my 'tender touch' ....

and no comments about my manual transmission!!!

I prefer manual transmissions!! you have better control of the vehicle!! not to mention better mileage!!
