I'm very surprised that this hasn't been mentioned since it brought me so much joy. I'd also like to note that not only has sexual orientation to the protected classes under discrimination (for federal employment), but usajobs.gov now has a ban on gender identity bias. Woo-freaking-hoo! :pinky

I don't know if it was posted here yet, but I think it's interesting.

The Australian singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte has released a new single, called "Love Like This", and it supports GLBT rights.
Here is the video.

Good news? Not so sure, but I guess it's a progress

As for why I don't think it is such a good thing, it has all to do with how French Health Care works, and what it may mean. But read the article, and you'll find out that it can't get things much worse in that area, so let's be happy for that decision. :)

Well, no one else has posted and it's hard to choose the appropriate link.

Statement from Freedom to Marry or an Editorial in the New York Times.

In sum: a federal judge in California said that Prop 8 which passed a vote by 52% last year and stopped same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. The decision will be challenged of course but for today and yesterday, it is truly a great day.

Martin Luther King Jr. said "The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." and it's one of my favorite quotes.

As the senate takes on Don't Ask Don't Tell, I've had a chuckle over what Lady Gaga is doing. She's holiding rallies and posting messages on youtube. I don't think I've seen a popstar do this kind of thing, ever. People have placed messages in songs, said something at concerts, but she's making it a mission.

I initially didn't think Lady Gaga was talented, but I've long ago changed my mind about it. As someone who came of age in the glorious 80s, I appreciate good theatrics. But she's got good politics too and I appreciate her efforts in standing up for equality.

The BBC here has a headline service called teletext. This morning I read a short article saying that Portia De Rossi has taken the name of her 'long term partner' Ellen DeGeneres. I thought that was a bit off, especially as the next paragraph stated that they were married in 2008.

I just looked again and saw that the line has been changed. It now reads 'Portia De Rossi has officially taken the name of her wife Ellen DeGeneres...'

There are gay students of Del City High contesting the claims covered in that Advocate article. It appears to be perhaps a case of misinformation on someone's part maybe? I'm definitely not denying that discrimination of this level still exists, nor calling the creds of The Advocate into question - they're a wonderful source of GLBT news and have been for many years. In the interest of fair coverage though: http://www.news9.com/Global/story.asp?S=13540782

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the investigation anyway.

Marriage Equality has passed in NY!!!!!
I haven't read up yet on what the new "religious exemptions" are, but I am counting this as a HUGE win.

I'm a few days late in posting about this, but last week civil unions became legal in Rhode Island.

On the surface this is a great victory, but the way the bill was written allows for a LOT of discrimination, and numerous gay rights groups actively stood against it. On the one hand, some recognition is better than nothing, but on the other hand the new law doesn't give nearly all the rights it should; my personal fear is that such a law will lead people who are on the fence about same-sex marriages to go, 'well they've got civil unions now so they don't need anything else,' when in reality the unions in this particular state will fall far short of the rights of marriage.

Gov. Chris Gregoire handed gay rights advocates a major victory, signing into law a measure that legalizes same-sex marriage in Washington state, making it the seventh in the nation to allow gay and lesbian couples to wed.

Gay marriage was finally legalized in Maryland! But apparently people are predicting that anti gay rights groups are going to try to force a referendum, which will most likely result in it being quickly nullified. :/
