Did the HIIT stair workout again today. 22 minutes. 2.60 miles. 125 flights. 167 av hr. 244 calories. Then stretching & abs.

We got to the in-law's today. I looked and there are two state parks supposedly nearby and I thought we could hike but my wife, of course, says that we're there to visit, not hike. So I don't know if I'll go to the parks by myself or just run/walk on the country roads like I usually do. The roads really hurt my back.

I haven't worked out in weeks because I've been sick. I'm feeling mostly better and took Asher out for a run yesterday. A run with him is running and walking and talking about street. Anyway it was a little over an hour and 3.56 miles.

I'd love to workout today but I know the wife was up all night with the baby so that's not going to happen.

I ellipticaled for an hour today. 4.84 miles. 7350 steps. 545 calories. It didn't rock my world but felt good after weeks off.

My friend no-showed me today. I was surprised cause at dinner last night she said she didn't workout yesterday and made plans to meet. But she slept through her alarm.

I did 20 minutes HIIT on the wave machine which was 8.3 km. Then did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I know I don't need to but I want to do more than 20 minutes. 4050 steps and 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Total was 477 cal and 148 av hr in 50 minutes.

I did legs: leg extentions, 1 set press, curls, 1 set lunges, calves. Then abs. Then 35 minutes on the elliptical which was 35 minutes, 4400 steps. 3.48 miles.

The family went hiking today. It was an easy hike at a local place. We went a few miles which included running with Ash, carrying Chiara, carrying Ash, and just walking and waiting for the baby to walk. She did more walking than I would have believed.

Yesterday I lifted arms, back, chest.

Today 20 minutes on the wave machine 7.74 miles? Then 30 on the elliptical which was 3800 steps. 2.43 miles. I was trying to do the wave HIIT but it's hard to get my hr high enough on it.

Yesterday was legs/abs day. I did leg press, deadlifts, lunges, calf raises, and abs.

Today I did HIIT on the stair machine for 20 minutes. It was brutal and I was gasping for air. 1.06 miles and 77 flights which shows the difference in different machines.

I lifted chest, back, arms. Then did 30 minutes on the elliptical. It was 3700 steps but the button that would show miles was broken. If it doesn't rain, hopefully I'll take the kids for a walk at the park later.

Last week I did really well alternating cardio and lifting. This week was less good because I had a colonoscopy Monday. That meant no workouts Sunday - fasting and cleansing, Monday - test, Tuesday - still drugged. Finally did an hour on the Elliptical Thursday and Sunday and then went for a long family walk. We did about 4-5 miles and had a beautiful time.

JSI, you are soooo inspiring! Keep up the good work!
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I got a NordicTrack treadmill and yes, we're using it! She used to be a runner, so she's really enjoying it and I mostly use it for walking, though I've incorporated some joggining into my routine. I've been varying what I do, though I have been having 30 minute workouts, plus stretching. And the weather has been pretty decent some days, so I've gone bike riding as well. It feels good to feel good!
But I still plan to indulge on Thurs. for the American Thanksgiving :-)

Hey Redsbird,
Thanks so much and well done on getting the treadmill and using it. I had a Nordic Track skiier for many years and loved it. I used it about 200 - 250 days a year for years. Then I sold it to make room for the baby's room and joined a gym.

Speaking of which, I've had a terrible cough. Yesterday I went 60 minutes on the elliptical and today 21 HIIT on the stair machine and then 40 on the elliptical but before that it was like 2.5 weeks off. Blergh. I'm glad to be back but Monday will leave for the in-laws so no gym then.

Deb, way to go!

Well last month I started stretching at the advise of my acupuncturist, whom I started going to because of my severe migraines and headaches, since she said that my muscles were like rocks and everything is connected and that was a reason I was in pain. And then Monday I started jogging. I've always wanted to but never had any motivation. So I'm starting off slow... 30 mins of 5 mins walking to start and end and 4 sets of 3 mins jogging/2 mins walking in between. I've set a goal for myself: to go running with a friend of mine who is a runner and keep up. I've always been somewhat active so I didn't think this would be going to fast. Any advise?
"Supposedly the summer is "over." The people that say that are either children or work in the education field. We are neither of those things. The summer is over when it stops being 300 degrees outside. Which won't be until December. That said, we will continue to have summer fun!"

HC - Well sorry about the headaches and all but I'm glad you're working on your flexibility and exercise. If you're not thrilled with your acupuncturist, I have one who is amazing and wonderful. Send me a PM and I'll send along her name and #. Where are you running?

I'm still working out. Doing some weight training and cardio, still early morning. I don't post here much because I tweet it (debra_serrins) and post it on my fb profile and track it on my google calendar and put it weekly on my blog and that seems like quite enough. But I'm still keeping up.

Keep posting and I'll try to come back more.

Well I haven't been posting but I have been keeping up. I also got a hold of one of those exercise balls and a video but those are kind of awkward. I think maybe the ball is to big for me but that was the smallest one. Or there's always the possibility that I'm just not doing it right! :blush

Deb, I've been using the treadmill at the gym. I had plans of building up my stamina and all before I hit the roads. When I do then I want to start looking around for places to go besides the obvious ones... something new.

HalfC - I got a book of 60 hikes within 60 miles of Austin (available at B&N etc.) and my son got a book of 20 "easy" hikes in Austin. It's nice because we've been finding some places to run or walk that are pretty but not so crowded. We went on one of the "hikes" in Georgetown and it was lovely but on the easy scale - it was like walking on a treadmill. That actually works out well with us having the two kids.

Anyway, I did nothing nothing nothing last week because my entire family had the flu. I didn't get sick but I did a lot of laundry and never left the kids so I could watch them while my wife was sick. No working out!

This week: I ellipticaled on Monday for an hour 4.55 miles.
Today: Did HIIT on the stair machine 20 minutes 74 flights 1.55 miles then 20 minutes on the elliptical 2150 steps and the mile thing was broken.

Oh, and I bought new running shoes but after wearing them a few weeks, I feel like they're just slightly too small on the right shoe and I'm thinking I'm going to have to spend $ to buy new ones. Arggghhh.

Ok. I've started a 5K running training program. It's really the first time I've ever tried running for exercise. Mostly it was because I was bored with my other workouts and partially because I'd like to run to encourage my son to run as well.

I'm to the beginning of the 3rd week and I can already run farther without having to break into a walk than I've ever run in my entire life. I'm committed to the 6 weeks and we'll see after that.

I'm gonna start using that exercise thingy I bought a year ago in a double action workout... Steps machine+Buffy rewatching = 6 seasons of workout+concentration

(since it'll stop me from doing all kinds of other stuff making me miss parts of every episode cause I'm checking my mail, gaming, cleaning, finding food and so on)

* This is an old idea, still not enforced due to mayor laziness... #FAIL

RainbowNerdette - I've heard of homes where they have a rule that the tv can only be on if someone in the house is exercising which I think would be especially fun with a family with kids. Good luck.

I'm still on my 5K training program. Today was the 6th monday (6 weeks total). I missed one run the first week but haven't missed since. I'm pretty proud of that alone. Sundays I usually run with my little boy which is great and is a big part of my motivation for running. It's causing me to work on my stride (not turning my toes out running or walking) and to stretch a lot more.

Hey, I totally forgot about this thread, thanks for bumping it up!

Since late March I've been doing Jillian Michaels DVDs in the morning instead of going to the gym. Not only has it really jump-started my stagnant workouts, but I can completely tell my body has changed and gotten much stronger and more toned. Plus, because I don't have to spend so much time at the gym, it frees up time in the morning so I can squeeze getting work in! More productive in so many ways, I'm quite pleased. So's my waistline! Without changing my diet significantly (it's hard at school with a structured mealplan), I've lost about 3-4 pounds, woot!

I just found this thread and I'm so happy :) I've been trying to change my whole fitness lifestyle and am finding it much easier to just eat better (and less) than to actually work out. I started March 1st and to date have lost 27 pounds, which is good, but I've hit a major roadblock :( 190 lbs and holding steady for over a week. So, I went out and got Wii Fit Plus, which I hope will help. I also enjoy riding my bike. Wifey is less than enthusiastic so, meh, I will do it alone if I have to!

Sanpfa - Hi and welcome to the thread! I used to post after every exercise. Then I sort of faded to weekly and lately it's been more periodic.

I'm enjoying running for the first time in my life. I've been doing a program for 7 weeks and now I'm sort of on my own to come up with workouts etc. Sunday (after a week of not running because I cut my heel), I ran a mile! I mean without walking at all. It took me 12:30 but given that when I started the program I had never in my life (I'm 42) run more than 1/4 mile, I'm so happy about that. That day I ran 30 minutes (>2.0 miles) then came home and got my son and we ran another 30 minutes. Yesterday I did a upper body workout because it's time to put some weight training back in. I also post my workouts on twitter (debra_serrins) and facebook (Debra Serrins).

Also, my wife is starting to do a lot of raw food "cooking" which is awesome healthy. Honestly, I haven't lost any weight in a long time but I feel like my clothes are looser. She's lost about 10 pounds on the raw food.

Wednesday I took off (although I did walk to and from lunch which is about 1/2 mile each way). Thursday night I ran with the kids. Ash wasn't in the mood to run so he walked and I ran forward 1/2 block, back 1/2 block, forward 1 block to catch up. I probably ran 3.0 miles in 40 minutes although the total of our loop was 2.1 miles or so.

Today I did legs and abs.

Well, I took 2nd place this month in our Biggest Loser competition...the guy that beat me has me by 40 pounds but he lost 8.8lbs in 3 weeks. So, today I did the Wii Fit Plus routine for stretching and strength - 27 min @ 89 calories...then I rode my bike 8.25 miles in one hour 15 min for about 425 cal...good so far, but I'll probably go back out with the dog later and run if my legs are up to it.

S - That's great. I don't know that I'd so so much in a day but whatever you feel like. Was the biggest loser competition at work? A friend's company did that and I think she won $120 or something.

I had a pretty decent week of workouts. I did arm & leg workouts and a few runs. Saturday I ran with the baby in the stoller and about 90 degrees. I went 3.98 miles in just under an hour trying to keep my heart rate in zone 3. Damn it was hot. Today we took a family hike at a state park. It was only around 4 miles but that took 2.5 hours including a lot of waiting around for the kids. My cal burn was about 1300 according to my HRM.

I find that I like riding so much it doesn't really feel like a workout...I was pretty shocked to see how many calories 6-7 mph can burn since it's really a leisurely pace. I'd really like to get into running but my legs hate it and I'm not determined enough yet to push through the pain. Soon though :) And yes, the biggest loser competition is at work...there are five of us doing it and we're only putting up $5 each a month, but it is motivation enough :)
