Skittles- But doesn't the stick get in the way too much? I mean, all that shifting takes a lot of work...:fallen

Hey people, Yes I am alive. Sorta. Anyways friday night would work for me, but I would probably show up late. It's my best friends rehersal dinner. Saturday is a no go seeing that its her wedding night and I'm standing up in this thing. Sunday evening might work.

If anyone would like to get me an Amber autograph I would be forever in debt..well...eternaly grateful sounds a whole lot better and I might just buy a round of beer for everyone.

It does sound good, which is why I'm gonna be there. The thing is tho, I'm coming from the UK so I don't know Chicago too well...alright, I don't know Chicago at all, so I'm gonna need some help with where to stay. Ya know, vague pointers about the right area..or..specific Hotels/Motels I could book into. All suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Actually, if there is going to be some sort of Kitten Gathering, I think NOW is the time to start talking hard concrete details! Like where, which day and what time! That way we can have things set and people can start making specific plans.

From what I have heard it sounds like Friday night is going to be a better time than Saturday night? Correct? Is anyone going to be staying in a hotel room near the convention and willing to host a sort of room party sort of thing or would it be better to meet at a restaurant sort of place? Any suggestions or offers! I'll be there, but beyond that and cracking the whip, don't have any specifics to put forth.

Kitten w/ a whip: nice imagery, Garner! :boot

But you're right: the firmer the details, the more people can plan around 'em (and hence be there). Step on up all you Control Fre---um, I mean logistically-minded Kittens! :kgeek

Dreamy Gatito will be off contemplating navel . . . Ommmmmm. ;)

GG, the question is more like, "who isn't bringing beer?"

I'm planning on Friday, but I don't know yet if I will be staying in the Chicago area or north of Chicago (most likely north).... Do we want to stay around the area of the convention? or further away (Moody's)?? and what about those there without transportation?? I have a small car, but there will be three kittens (right now, maybe more later) in it.

You kitties don't mind if I pass on the drinking, do ya??? I never have and there is a pretty good chance that I never will. But, it doesn't mind that I don't wanna hang, :banana . DD 4 Life!!! =)

~~Edited to Add~~

Oh, and BTW, I am going to be there the whole weekend, Friday through Sunday night. Unfortunately, I have to be back on that following Monday for work. =)

Aaron/TaraBaby,

Don't worry about my "beer joke" ... I don't drink much either. I don't think that drinking is "kitten requirement" but if it is, I'm in big trouble...

plus, I'll be the driver for the weekend, sooooo... no beer for me either.. :( but since I can make a bottle/glass last for around 6 hours without a problem, I don't think I will miss the drinking.... much.

So, Aaron, you won't be the only one without a beer.

Aaron, TaraBaby, Skittles, hopefully the drinking isn't a psuedo requirement. I imagine there are several underage Kittens that would like to try to come and can't drink...[legally..]. Hmm, I wish I could show, but a) I'd feel weird because I have barely posted here b) I think I might be on tour, which does go through Chicago, but, still.

I'm not a "FluffyBuffy Lesbian" either and I'm not much of a drinker, but i do like a laugh and I don't need a drink to make an arse of myself...who says the English are inhibited? Altho I guess you'll see for yourselves soon enough. I'm planning on arriving in Chicago on the 11th and I'll be staying thru to the 17th...So I'll have a Motel room for all that time if it helps with meeting arrangements.

You've never been to Chicago have you?

Trust me, even if such a thing were to occur, no one would even bat an eye.

Takes quite a lot to shock us Chicagoans.

WebWarlock do you recomend that the kittens check out the Shedd or the planetarium or the natural history museum. You might also take a look at the Picasso . Chicago is my favorite city in the western hemisphere.

I like the Shedd Aquarium. I am a member in fact. The sharks are really cool and so are the whales. It is a family friendly place, which is why I like it since I take my kids. Avoid the fries in the cafe, they are usually bad.

The Field Museum of Natural History is very cool. They have Sue there, the largest T-Rex ever recovered, BUT the entire dinosaur and prehistoric life section is closed till 2005.

Brookfield Zoo and Lincoln Park Zoo are also both really fun.

I have not been to Adler Planetarium in years, but I have been wanting to go back. It is right next door to both the Shedd and the Field.

On the art side there is the Museum of Contemporary Art which I also have not been to in years, the big Art Institute of Chicago Museum and the Smart Museum of Art.

Not to mention hundreds of little ethnic art museums all over the place. I have been to the Irish-American one on the Northside and it's nice.

Students and Teachers: Make sure that if you plan to go to any Chicagoland museum you bring your ID, lots of them offer discounts. I flash my teacher ID and get in to the Field for the same price as my four-year old.

Plus this is Chicago. There are thousands of bars in the city and twice that outside of it.

I would also add that the Museum of Science and Industry (sorry no link) is probabl the single most impressive museum there in Chicago. When I lived there we would return to it more than any of the others! So it is also worth checking out.

So, no firm plans yet? Can we at least get a consensus on night or nights? It seems like Friday night is working out for more Kittens than not.

What about where? At the convention site at 8pm? Just a suggestion or example of something to shoot for, not a hard and fast point. Someone actually in Chicago NOW might have a better idea of what is around and where we could go.

Finally, I think we should be open and friendly to all Kittens including lurkers and such and no one should feel the shouldn't come or aren't wanted just because they don't post a lot. The more W/T fans the better would be my cry! :)

Blues! Blues! When one is in Chi-town, one must go listen to the Blues (there are several famous venues---which one has no/the lowest cover? :pray )

If one is an Art Deco architecture fan (and who isn't ;) ) there's also just walking around downtown (e.g. State and Michigan) and looking up. :grin (The Shedd Aquarium is an Art Deco treasure too, FWIW)

The Museum of Science and Industry is excellent (as I discovered when first visiting this city at age 13). Love U-505 (the captured WWII U-boat), and it's just received a spanking-new display renovation (too bad about the Field Museum and "Sue" though: I saw her about 4 years ago, and she's spectacular).

IIRC, the area near Wrigley Field (on the North Side) is sort of a "Gay Land's Playland"---but I leave that to those who know the city better than I do.

GG Any other (used) bookstore fans? Chicago's include a Powell's : it's not the mothership store of my beloved Portland OR, but it's still pretty great. Bookstore tours :read and pub crawls : my two favorite ways to see a city! :lol Out

I'd like to comment on how interesting a mini-culture there is at this board. Lurker threads and the warm familiarity with which everybody speaks 'Kitten' is really rather charming. Hmph.
