Bob, they are all fantastic, quality stuff. I think the one of your cat is my favorite.

Re: Photo Advice Needed

Postby emma peel » Mon May 31, 2004 9:43 pm

They're all great photos, Bob. Here are some comments, which really don't mean a hill of beans, but here goes:

I like "chute 2," and think it could give you a psychological edge due to the political situation lately.

I think "smoke plumes" and "frog in pond" are really cool because to me they look like they could be paintings.

"Fire in Moonpark" is stunning.

I like "Mario Dominguez" a bit better than the others because of the angle of the car in the photo. To me that makes it stand out more than the others.

Of course, I do like the one of your cat best. :)

Edited to add that I like "Fountain 2" a bit better because I like the framing, that is, it looks like there's a bit more visible space around the fountain, and the top doesn't look quite as cut off as it does in "Fountain 1."

Well, week before last I had a couple of my teeth surgically removed, so... on my days at home, recovering, I spent some much needed time with my camera. :grin Hee...

My pictures aren't as interesting as Bob's, nice pictures BTW, but... I hope you will enjoy them. All of these were taken at my house.

Let me know what you think.

1. My Dog's Paw - My dog has a habit of not wanting to eat her dinner at night, so my dad put a couple of kibbles on her paw thinking she would eat. Well... the result was, Angel looking at me like we were crazy!

2. Egret - we see these birds every night, looking for crawfish in the ditches. Neat little birds to watch.

3. Nosey Tree Frog - I love our Tree Frogs. They're my buddies. He decided to say, "Hi." :bigwave

4. Peek-A-Boo Tree Frog - He just thought I couldn't see him.

5. Black Jumping Spider - One of Xita's friends. :lol He was hanging around on my screen door, so I figured I'd try to get a good picture of him.

Better view of Mr. Spider.

6. Green Lizard - He looks awfully comfy, doesn't he?

7. Browning Leaf - This leaf fell off the tree a couple of days ago, but I loved the contrast of it up against the healthy leaves.

8. Leafy Lizard - He really thought he was blending in. Cute little thing.

9. Big Bad Boy - He was showing off his manly-ness. Big tough guy.

10. Black Wasp - I don't think that relationship will last, but he seemed to think that my light bulb was the one. :lmao He kept coming back to it.

11. Webworm - Hang in there baby.

12. Webworm Nest - These Caterpillars are interesting and very powerful. They're so neat to watch.

Another Shot of these fuzzy creatures.

13. Baby Woodpecker - Here's our baby woodpecker. Cute little thing, isn't he?

14. Papa Woodpecker - Proud Papa. He's a real dedicated daddy. It was fun to watch him and Mama bird getting food and taking it back to the baby. The baby would hang on the tree and follow his parents, waiting for his meals. So cute.

15. Baby Again - Here's another shot of our baby.

Well, that's all I have right now. Let me know if these sucked. I can take the truth. :happy

My assistant manager always laughs at me cause I'm always watching the birds at work. Cute little guys. I love all living things. Plus, I'm getting practice. I'm hoping to take some photography classes or something one day.

Can someone tell me which picture is the best?

I hope you're feeling better now. Having a couple of your teeth removed really sucks.

You took some really great pictures especially the Black Jumping Spider pictures and the Wasp picture. Luckily we don't have such big spiders over here.

Looking forward to seeing some more pictures.

Take care. :wave

Jen, great pics. :) I can´t say which is best, but my favourite is the tree frog, I like frogs, that one looks sort of cute, for a frog.

Rosella,

Thank you, sweetie. Yes, I'm feeling better and my gums are healing nicely. Thank you for asking.

Hee... you like the spider? Everyone who sees it is like, "And is the spider dead?" :lol Nope. He's still alive. I only kill poisonous insects. He wasn't really as big as the picture makes him out to be. He was pretty big though.

Thanks again, sweetie. :kiss

Garfield,

You like the frog, huh? Yeah. He's pretty cute. I love those little guys. They sing us very pretty songs at night, except when they all sing together and sometimes wake me up if they decide to sing right outside my bedroom window! :wtf Little buggers!

Thanks again, guys.

Well, here's some new pics I've taken. There's something wrong with my lens or something. My pictures are getting a blue light spot on the sides of them now. I think I might have a light leak or something. I'm taking my camera in tomorrow to be looked at. Wish me luck? I love that camera so.

Tell me which pics you guys like best?

My photos

*hugs*

Nice pictures Stroke of Luck. That looks like County Wicklow, which is really lovely. Actually my gf and I were going home from the airport Sunday night and decided to take the scenic route through Wicklow instead of the boring motorway.

Happy 4th of July!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Sun Jul 04, 2004 8:39 pm

For some unknown reason, my town does its July 4 fireworks spectacular on July 3. They use the park near my apartment complex, so last night I took my camera out and lucked into the perfect vantage point. Click below for some shots.

Re: Happy 4th of July!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Sun Jul 04, 2004 11:15 pm

Those were taken with my new Canon Powershot G5 digital. I was actually at a slightly wide-angle setting on it.

The local fireworks show is done in a park that's about a half-mile across the arroyo (that's what they call creeks out here). I walked down there and set my camera up on a tripod, and by a tremendous stroke of luck I was right across from where they were launching the fireworks.

The Powershot allows you to "pre-focus" - that is to say, you can push the button halfway down to activate the autofocus, so when you're ready to take the actual picture you don't get that annoying digital camera delay. I watched the entire fireworks show on the display screen of the camera.

I must confess that for every shot I posted, there were about 10 bad ones. That's another good thing about digitals - you don't have to stop to reload. :p

Thank you, SoL/Natti. I'm glad you liked them. And yes, the wedding was pretty and I had a blast taking pictures. I love to be behind the camera. I hadn't been to a wedding in so long, that I forgot how fun they were. :grin

Well. I have new pictures for you guys, if anyone is interested. I'm pretty proud of the way all of these turned out. I'm still having a problem with my camera though.

Can one of you give me some advice? Bob, anyone? For a couple of months now, everytime I use my camera, half of my pictures turn out having blue spots, a blue reflection, on the right side of the pictures. Granted, I DO take most of my pictures outside, but there shouldn't be a reflection anywhere on my pictures. I don't use my flash. Even the pictures I took of the wedding, alot of them were taken inside and I think 4 of them had the spots on them. Most of the time it's a blue light, but sometimes it can be a white/cloudy light.

I've taken my camera in about 4 times now, to be looked at. Everytime the guy has told me that there is nothing wrong with it, but obviously, there is. His shop is the only one around here. I just don't understand it.

Have you ever had this problem? Anyone?

Thanks in advance, if any of you can help me. If you would like to see an example of what I am talking about, here's one: Blue Spots

Now... onto the pictures.

Baby Frog - I've tried and tried to get a good picture of our baby frogs, but no luck. Until now, that is. :) They're so cute!

Flower - I don't know my flowers, so I'm not sure what kind this one is, but I thought it was pretty. I love the coloring.

Another Flower - Like the last one, I don't know what this one is either, but they are blooming here all the time. This flower is very pretty to me.

Rose 1, Rose 2, and Rose 3 - These are of a rose in my back yard. I just took pictures of it from different angles. I think I like picture 1 the best.

Sky 1, Sky 2, Sky 3, and Sky 4 - I love these. I think #1 came out the best, as well.

Tail Feather 1, Tail Feather 2, and Tail Feather 3 - This tail belongs to a bird who has been named, Mrs. Fidget. :lol She fidgets and flits around and at night, she hides in that little space at the end of the blinds on the porch. She's a crazy bird, but she's cute.

Well... that's all for now. I hope you guys like these. Please tell me what you think. Okay?

I love kittens. :heart

Hi Baby,

You know I love your photos. I’m kind of partial to the sky pics. They're really beautiful, hmm, kind of like you. The baby frog pic is really good too. And hey, I think Mrs. Fidget and I have something in common. We’re both crazy, but cute. :p

And hey WTtruelove, that fire pic is really cool.

Thank you. I greatly appreciate your comments. And you're making me blush again. :blush

You like my froggy? Why, thank you! He was pretty cute. All hoppy and everything. He even let me hold him.

Baby, you might be crazy, but I would never compare you to a bird. A cat maybe because of how affectionate they can be, but a bird? Never. You did have one thing right though. You're a cutie! ;)

Portfolio question

Postby Jennpurr » Sat Sep 25, 2004 10:37 pm

I have a question for Bob or anyone else who might be able to help me.

I'm working in a photo lab at my job and we have a customer that comes in who works for a newspaper. I was inquiring with her about what you have to do to get into that field or just work at the newspaper. She told me I should get some of my photographs together to show to her.

I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions? Should I make up a portfolio? If so, what types/size pictures should I use?

I could use any advice you could give me.

Thanks in advance,

Jen
