hey all

i'm not really here to talk about my town, wich is quebec city, in canada, (so friggin cold, and lots of snow!) but mostly to know a little more about Alabama... I know some people are from there, and well, to make a long story short, i may end there for like a university semester, in Montevallo to be more precise. So anyway, if anyone wants to share with me some informations, or experiences, i'll be happy! :wink

you can email me (willowish@hotmail.com)

or simply reply here

thank you

Oh, wow, Jen, long way from Quebec City to Montevallo. :lol

Montevallo's a pretty small town and, unfortunately, lacking in a lot of what many other small college towns have. It's almost like the university is inside a bubble. It's a very gay bubble, though, I have to say. UM has a bit of a...reputation. ;) I hope you have a great time there. I have many friends who went there and they speak highly of the experience. I've been there lots of times and I can attest to the fact that there's not much to do in town, off-campus. Most folks come up to Birmingham, which is about 40 miles north of there.

There are a handful of Alabama Kittens, but I'm not sure there are any in Montevallo.

Please feel free to mail me and I'll help you out as much as I can.

Heh, my mom attended University of Montevallo many years ago. I told her about its status as the now "Gay friendly" college and she didn't believe me. Must've changed quite a bit since her days. Ah, I can't wait to visit Alabama for Christmas! :)

Hello Kitties...

Well...I was born in Chillicothe, Ohio...which was the first capitol of Ohio....and it really has a lot of history...the whole native american thing going on...I love it....I moved around a lot...grew up some in Kentucky....and Yeah!!! I'm very proud of my hillbilly roots....I could tell family stories that would make great movies!!!

Ohio is pretty cool....I love to get the change in the seasons....but I would love to travel to Alaska someday...

Anyway..hello to any other Buckeyes and everyone else on the board....

OMG, you mean there's actually someone else here that's in Ohio!:) Hi WillowFever, I've never been to Chillicothe (probably drove through it and didn't know), but I'm sure we're kinda close. I'm in Columbus (Buckeye country).

Anyway, here's my boring story: Born in the South, moved to San Bernardino; then LA; and from there to Germany in the late 80s, and then to Phoenix; full circle back to MS; back to Phoenix; and then I ended up in Ohio for college.

Hi People,

I'd been hoping to see some FL kittens had posted but there doesn't seem to be any. I was born and raised in the cesspool known as Miami, FL. It was a fun place to grow up in but a scary place to go back and visit. A year after Hurricane Andrew my parents and I moved to Northern Virginia, the Fairfax/Chantilly area which I grew to love even though it's too cold there.

I fled back to Florida for college and spent four interesting years in Tallahassee (GO NOLES!!). I moved to Tampa, FL a week after graduation to join the work force. I love my job but I haven't made any real friends here yet and don't know a single soul who shares my love for Willow/Tara or who even watches Buffy. Later People.

Shalom!!!!:)

I am from good old Germany and it sucks, kinda. I live in a small city (around 11.000 inhabitants) really high in the north of german (Schleswig-Holstein), near the boarder to danmark. Hmmm k lets say it this way, Hamburg is around 150 km away....i dont have any good shopping-centers here, i always have to drive around 40 km to the next Big city, well big :lol

But its a "nice" place to live, kinda quiet, lots of nature and hey water is around me YAY.

And my second hometown is Quriat Bialik/isreal. HOME SWEET HOME:heart

Anyone else from Germany?

What is the name of your town? My aunt lives in Rendsburg, we used to go there like once or twice a year when I was growing up. We visited a lot of places around there.

Postby michellesflute » Sun Feb 01, 2004 6:56 am

hey, here's another kitten from Germany.

I live in Hessen near Frankfurt/Main in a 'Kurstadt', so lots of old people here. Don't know what Kurstadt is called in english but my dictionary says something like spa therapy. So, err, you know what I mean?

Frankfurt is ok, I've studied at the university of Frankfurt, but will now change to Gießen.

Natti, living near the Ostsee must be cool, especially in summer. But I just heard about it, I've never was at the Ostsee myself.

One question, can you speak 'Plattdeutsch'. It's such a funny accent, I'm always like this when I hear Platt :lmao

Way better than this awful hessian accent. I often don't understand a single word.

However, your second hometown sounds interessting, too. I don't know where it exactly lies in Israel, but I hope not near a crisis area.

By the way, you two look cute together (I saw your photos at the picture thread).

Hey Michellesflute!:wave

Yes ur right, i live near the Baltic sea and its fun, the beach is just a 5 mins drive away, the water just a 2 mins walk. So i consider myself as lucky. :D But i live in a TOURIST city, nearly a "Kurstadt" so i know the problem with old ppl, but someday i might be old too so, i don't say anything against them on this board :lol

To your question about "plattdeutsch", well i wasn't born in this city, i was growing up here and live now here, i was born in Cuxhaven in "Niedersachsen", thats why i don't really speak, nor understand that accent that well, but i know some words and sometimes i understand something. I just have a problem to understand some older customers at the phone, when they start to talk "plattdeutsch" :lol

And my second home town isn't near a crisis area. Its near Haifa, if u know where that is. It´s pretty safe and i haven't seen any problems, while i was there so....

If u wanna talk a lil bit, buzz me. Natti80@gmx.de. i have no e-mail addy from u, otherwise i would have written you:)

Oh and thx :blush for the compliment

Whoo hoo! Another VA Kitten!

Let's see, I was born in Philadelphia, PA, lived in Lancaster, Millersville, Grantville, Lebanon and Annville (all in Pennsylvania still....*sigh*), Durham, NC, Canyon, TX and I'm happy to say we're back here in Richmond, VA (although Diana lived in Charlottesville for about 8 yrs).:bounce :pride

and is Plattdeutsch as interesting to listen to as to listen to some poor American tourist struggle like hell through Hochdeutsch? :eek

Plattdeutsch sounds a lot like Dutch or a Dutch dialect, many words are (phonetically) similar. For the curious, here´s an online dictionary: stade-buxtehude.de/platt/...eutsch.htm

Re: My Town

Postby Stroke of Luck » Sun Feb 01, 2004 1:00 pm

Hey Kieli!

compared to plattdeutsch" is "hochdeutsch" pretty easy. When someone talks "plattdeutsch" u wont understand anything, like u will see in DrG´s link, nothing is the same and even I have a problem to understand that language and i live here for over 18 years LOL, well i dont talk with old ppl that much. The language is not that common under the youth.

Its a mix between dutch, german and english btw. there are many words which belongs to the english language, its kinda funny:p even if u never learned english, but u talk plattdeutsch, u know a lil bit of the english language.

Hmmm....Plattdeutsch...

Postby Kieli » Sun Feb 01, 2004 2:48 pm

...sounds like it's very close to the "Pennsylvania Dutch" that is spoken by the Amish over here....although you can actually understand it a little better ;) But I'm going to take a gander at Garfield's site. God knows, my German needs some help. :cry

Big shout out to all the African kittens! Oh, wait...there aren't any ;) Or at least none that I know of.

I live in a teeny weeny town called Grahamstown about 50 k's in from the coast on the SE coast of South Africa. We have more churches and more bars per capita than any other town in the country. The saying goes that you come to G-town with a bible and leave with a sixpack.

It's a pretty place, with a very GLBT-friendly university. Plus, many of South Africa's greatest poets and writers have lived here at one time or another. Do stop by if you're in the country!

I live in Arizona, also known as hell by many people I know. Mostly because it is so damn hot I literally get burns if I go on the sidewalk barefoot in the summer. I've lived in Tempe and Chandler all my life. The cities are so close they really should be one city. For example I live in Chandler but my school is in Tempe, and I'm in the "district". All the cities right outside Phoenix are really close. As soon as I'm out of highschool (yes unfortunately I'm still doing that) I want to move to California or the east coast, or really anywhere but here. I'm really jealous of all the intereting places alot of you live. Well that's it for me.
