Why didnt we win that game? Everybody kept on saying Wood was gonna blank us, that he was sooo freaking good and he was gonna pitch a scoreless complete game. We played so well against him....he allowed more runs then our pitcher...my relentless marlins came back TWICE...WE deserved to win that game...why didnt we win...god why? ::::goes to cry in corner::::





((gains composure))) anyway, sok...one loss...when we beat the braves in 1997 we did it in 6 games...and this year, I siad it once and I'll say it again you cant count us out till the last out of the last game. Go Marlins!



Nobody, and I mean nobody, expected us to beat the giants, but I wonder why they arent still in the post season?

As a big Yankee fan, I can't believe I'm going to say this but...if for any reason, Boston beats them, I'd like to see the Cubs and Red Sox play in the World Series. It would be great for either team to lose the curse that has played a major part of them not having a World Championship title. But we'll have to wait and see. Last night, they were showing Boston's 1986 World Series highlights against the Mets and it was obvious there was a curse. I'm not a major league player, but I've played for 30 years and the first day of my very first practice the coach said, "keep your glove on the ground" That little error cost Boston the Championship.

But I am not and shall remain until my last dying breath a Yankee fan. So GO BOMBERS!!!

That's right, the Cubs curse lives on! After the fiasco in the 8th last night I think all are being reminded why the Cubs can't win. A little teasing to get the fans excited, and then...Yoink, there goes the rug! Now if I was a conspiracy person I would think the ratings would be much higher with Cubs vs Yankees (sorry Boston fans, I'll be hugely impressed if you can pull two out of NY) than Marlins vs Yankees and would expect to see the Cubs win for that reason. It should be an interesting, nailbiting game tonight at the least.

Curses Batman! Last night's game was just horrible for Chicago and anyone rooting for the Cubbies. The blame for the debacle should be directed at the team as a whole, not the unfortunate soul who prevented Alou from making that catch. Baker for leaving Prior in one batter too long and Prior for actually pitching to Pudge…even though first base wasn't open…he's been burning them all series long, Gonzalez for booting a possible double play ball and Farnsworth for not doing his job. It got ugly real fast, but you've gotta give Florida major props for not rolling over!



On a side note, I was disturbed by the behavior of some of the fans in attendance. That poor guy had food and beer among other things tossed at him, but more appalling was that he needed a police escort out of the stadium as chants of "kill him and a$$hole" echoed loud and clear. It's a sad situation and I hope for his sake, the Cubs pull out the victory today! BTW, I just now heard that police are surrounding his house for protection. Very sad indeed!

YES!!!! WE'RE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!! This is insane, there's a police barricaded block party outside my house!!!! I cant believe this....I've gone through this with this team the whole season and I still can believe it....The RUSH when the D-TRAIN Dontrelle went 13-2....the come from behind wins...the anticipation of watching a marlins game and then watching the Phillies game to see if we took the lead....Beating Philly....Beating the giants in a few wild come from behind wins.....coming back from a 3 game deficit to win NLCS....You go through this all year long, but you still cant believe it each and every time....and Josh Beckett doing what we all knew he could do all along....spent the whole series in the shadow of Prior and Wood, but the best pitching performance of the NLCS was all Beckett's!!!! Who I really feel sorry for is that poor fan....and the CUBBIES are cool so we're all pretty much refraining from taunting (if we had just beat the braves on the other hand, all bets would be off...i hate the stupid braves)....For now all I can say is, I can't believe it and WE'RE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES BABY YEAH !!!!

I was rooting for the Cubbies big time, but Florida does have an excellent team. Ivan Rodriguez is now my favorite non-Dodger player. He is the man . 15 RBIs!! Just WOW! Beckett looks unhittable and the rookie Cabrera looks like a seasoned veteran out there! Overall, it was a great series and fun to watch for any baseball fan!



Should the Yankees happen to win game 7 today, I'm hoping Florida will kick their butts!

Just to continue for a second on the story about the Cubs fan......he released an official apology for the incident because he and his family are getting harrassed. To show how bad the situation is getting, Gov. Jeb Bush offered the guy a move to FL to get away. I guess someone with a condo on the beach offered it to him for three months as well so he can get away.



Now, how do you think upset Cubs fans are interpreting this kind of gesture? The one governor that is extending a welcome hand is governor of the very state that beat the Cubs in that unfortunate game. The irrate fans probably see this like a thank you gift.

It is too bad that the Cubs didn't just get swept by the Marlins. Instead our hopes were raised, expectations of victory danced within our heads, and we were so close we could almost taste it. Sounds very much like 1984 with Sutcliffe up 3-0. It just goes to show that Josswad is not the only force that likes to inflict the maximum of misery and pain on the fans! Big sigh! Still, the Cubs came back from losing 90+ games last year. Beat the Braves who had a much better record, Hell, beat out the Astros to get there, and still made a series of the last one.



We certainly had our chances and blew them. Blaming the one fan is wrong, others were right there going for the ball too, why weren't they holding him back if they knew what was going on? And threatening or harrassing the poor man is even worse. Still, I would say that is where the Cubs lost it. Mentally or perhaps spiritually, everything tumbled from there. Instead of having the luxury to get just one out Gonzalez rushed to get two, and got none. The whole inning fell apart and mentally the Cubs seemed out of it. But then did any true Cubs fan expect anything else? Teased by success and then let down. Wait till next year!

Absolutely Garner, the Cubs have a great team, a great record and had a huge win over the braves, which is a great thing in my book any day. They have great players: Sosa (goes without saying), Alou (former 97 Marlin , Gonzalez (fellow Miamian!), and Wood and Prior just to name a few. Add Dusty Baker to the mix, and it's definitely a team to be proud of. When the fish were facing elimination, I was pissed like any fan would be, but had we lost, in hindsight, I would have rooted for the cubs to take on the yanks or the sox all the way.



I also agree with 4wiccanluv, Pudge is the man! I was at a sports bar down here watching the game, and when he stepped up to bat at the clutch, you could feel the energy of everyone getting excited, cuz you just knew he would make something happen. Sad part is, the Marlins have built this team on a rag-tag group of nobodys and youngins (Pudge being the richest Marlin at $10 million, less than the yanks would pay for a bat boy , so few of the players are under contract. Payroll is going to skyrocket next year, and I know we probably wont be able to keep the whole team together. I hope we can at least keep pudge, cabrera and Beckett, because the marlins have had a very shaky foundation since our former evil owner dismantled our champion team and lost the hearts of all the fans they had just made (Marlins were a mere 5 years old). But anyway, that's all post season talk. The Marlins have taken me on an amazing ride this year and win or lose, I'm glad the ride isnt over yet.

Garner, just blame it on the Sports Illustrated jinx. If they hadn’t put Kerry Wood on the cover of SI last week, I’m sure the Cubbies would have swept the fish. I just so happened to be in Chicago last night and today and the mood of the town is pretty subdued, as one might expect. I almost feel sorry for the legitimate Cub fans who had to endure this torture once again. (I don’t feel any sympathy for the trendy band-wagon fans, however). Of course I don’t feel sorry enough to regret the Marlins winning the series. Now…if the Red Sox can just hold on to their lead, we’ll have an all wild card series for the first time.

I generally don't even watch sports anymore. Why? Because I personally curse *any* team I root for when I do. How do I know this? My most common sports-viewing experience is to turn on a game, mid-stream, and look at the team I'm rooting for, and say "Hey! Look how well they're doing!" And then . . .



So, when do you think I turned on tonight's ALCS Game 7? Pedro was just striking out the first out of the 8th inning! BoSox up 5-2, alright!



Didn't you (I) know exactly what would happen next? Why didn't I switch it off immediately? Curses! (I did, eventually, after the Yankees had tied---and Boston immediately got out of the inning).



Oy vey, the conclusion was foregone after that. Sorry Boston.

Well, no Cubs, no Sox. The goat, the Bambino, poor choices on releiving pitchers, fans, Sports Illustrated, or using the low slider late in the count. I guess it all just added up. BTW- I wrote a story. It's how I'm choosing to mourn my Cubbies loss.



And now, a brief rant-Wait until next year! 2004 IS the Cubs year! Every ninety six years, like clockwork!

Oh god...ohgod, ohgod, ohgod....what in the world was that...I was really hoping the BoSox made it. After the first HR I was smiling, then came some extra runs, and another. We were jumping up and down for joy, then the glaring at the tv after the 7th inning stretch came...by the 8th, man was tired....could they not tell?? Andi's yelling at the tv, I ran and hid but we both agreed, they should've pulled Martinez long before they actually did, man was tired. Derek..Bernie...oh hell....then bring Mariano in to pitch. I knew it was over for BoSox.

I'd be afraid to watch the Series FL followes suit.

As I said from a conspiracy point of view it should have been Cubs Yankees for the greatest possible audience, followed by Cubs Red Sox. But no. I actually think the lowest rated World Series will still be NY NY, Mets Yankees?! General of the Army Whatever!!!! This might just be the second lowest rated WS. It was sort of like watching game 6 NLCS all over again. Prior in a bit too long, the floodgates opening. At least Boston did shut them down without dropping behind, but all in vain in the end. I don't even know who to root for in the WS? The team that beat the Cubs? Or the Evil Empire (sorry, but 6 times in 8 years, uggh, send someone else!) I guess I will have to just fall back on go NL?



Will the Marlins really be dismantled, again? Is their payroll high enough to warrent, or demand, that? I thought with the younger players that was less likely. I guess we'll see.



Go, uh, Bears? Nah, they got their win already.

I grew up 15 minutes from Yankee Stadium - spent the better part of my childhood cheering on the pinstripes. Got Bucky Dents autograph and mooned over him before I discovered girls. I knew every name and number of the Yankees teams from 1974 thru 1983.



Now I live in New England - Red Sox country - i think I may be the only Yankee fan in a 50 mile radius of Providence,where I live. But even being a tried and true Yankees fan, I found myself rooting for the underdog. Over the last 10 years, the Yankees winning the pennant, for me anyway, has become anti-climactic. Almost expected. I have never been one of those NY fans who hated the Red Sox. And this year I found myself cheering them on. I held my breath in game 5 against Oakland - and jumped out of my seat when they won it. And at the bottom of the 8th inning, as Pedro took the mound, I smiled a little, hoping for the Sox to pull it off.



I am not disappointed that my Yankees are in the WS again, and I will watch and cheer them on, for they will always be my team. But this womans Pinstripes now have a little shade of red.

To me, rooting for the Yankees is kind of like rooting for the sun to rise in the East - there’s really not that much suspense involved, and the result is virtually assured. The first day of Spring Training, who was favored to win the World Series? Uh…the Yankees? It’s October now, and who will be playing in the World Series? Uh…the Yankees? It almost seems a waste to play the regular season when the outcome seems pre-ordained. At least the Marlins add a bit of unpredictability to this fall classic. GO FISH!

Ah yes... 100 years of the Yankees... 100 years of the World Series... coincidence? I'd like to think so, but the slightly paranoid cynic in me doesn't like the way that one adds up.

Then again, I just rather strongly dislike the Yankees. When a team has more money than God and can get any player they really want.. I tend to lose interest. Kinda like playing a video game (a la Triple Play Baseball) where you can just load up a team with the finest of players and waltz your way to the pennant everytime you play. It gets old. It gets boring.

I am at heart a Twins fan. (you know that small-market team from Minnesota that Bud Selig was just achin' to contract in 2002?) But I've also always been rather partial to the Cubs and Red Sox. So when my Twinkies were walloped by the Yanks I put my hopes in those two teams.

Alas, I find myself repeating the mantra I've learned from being a lifelong Minnesota sports fan...

There's always next season...There's always next season...There's always next season...There's always next season...

At any rate... Go Florida!

As a true Yankee fan since the day I was born, I feel I need to speak my mind.

I'll be the first to say that the Yankees are as good as George Steinbrenners checkbook can afford. But he's a businessman and he's doing what every good businessman does.

The Yankees have won 26 World titles in 100 years, but how many of them were won before players were offered obscene amounts of money to play the game? It all balances out. But they don't get all the best because if that were the case, players like Bonds and Sosa would be signed just to name a few. And how many players of Yankee past have been inducted into Cooperstown? Are they inducted because of their paychecks? No, its all a matter of talent and statistics that determines eligibility. And just for the record, Pete Rose, regardless of his bad decisions, deserves to be recognized for his talent and not just remembered for his stupidity.

I watched the D'backs beat the Yanks a few years ago and how did they win? They played a better series and deserved to win and I congratulate them.

What really bothers me is when people say they "hate" the Yanks. As everyone on this board should know, "hate" is a very strong word. I've watched watched the World Series that the Yanks weren't a part of but I guess thats the true baseball fan in me.

I wish the Marlins the best of luck and may the best team win. I'm looking foward to a good series.

I would also like to wish Roger Clemmens all the best in his final days in major league baseball and thank him for his fine contribution as a New York Yankee. I hope to see him in Cooperstown soon.

alright. i will agree that hate is a very strong word, but it's about the closest thing i could come up with for how i feel about the yankees. my apologies for taking the easy way out on descriptive terminology. don't mean to offend.

i suppose that's perhaps one of my largest issues with the yankees. (and i have a few) they tend to consistently remind me that baseball is a business. don't get me wrong, i already know that. (in reference to my statement earlier regarding contracting the Twins, the reasons for contraction were based almost entirely on the fact that it was a team that did not make enough money.)

i don't disagree with that at all. some truly amazing players, both past and present have played for the Yankees. i have no real issues in regards to talent as far as the yankees go. and i wasn't trying to say that the yankees get all the best players. i was perhaps trying to make the point that it's rather difficult for small market teams (ie: Oakland A's, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, etc.) to compete with a checkbook like Steinbrenner's. as a result a fairly decent majority of excellent players end up with teams in the big markets. do the smaller market teams miss out on all the best players? No. A large number of medium market teams like the Cubs, the Giants, the Marlins and the Rangers (can we say A-Rod?) end up with superstars as well. unfortunately as a genral rule getting a contract for the best of the best can often end up hurting a team's payroll and eliminating other opportunities to sign grade-A talent. (again, can we say A-Rod? take a look at the Rangers current pitching staff and prospects and you might see what i mean there) it's unfortunate and of course not really in any way the Yankees fault, but it would be nice to see things spread around a bit. and really i guess, good for the Yankees... 6 times in 8 years. wow. i'd be impressed, but really look at the line-up and look at the resume... i suppose they just kinda deserve it huh?

AMEN. i find myself in 100% agreement with you on that one. perhaps come november he will be on the ballot. there's been a lot of discussion about it. here's hoping.
