I went to my first concert on Halloween night. It was Monster Jam 2004, for Jam'n 94.5 The artists were all rap, and it was the best night of my life. Chingy and 50 cent were the best, and the crowd went crazy when 50 came out. I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect, but I had a great time.

Let me tell ya, coming home on a train at Midnight on Halloween is a fun experience. Everyones dressed up in their costumes, and everyones falling asleep. Such a fun experience.:rofl

Postby hellyeahallday » Sat Nov 06, 2004 8:58 am

God, who have I seen? Uhmmm...

(2003) Linkin Park were freaking awesome:D Lostprophets were one of LP's supports, and they're Welsh, enough said;) Really though, they're brill:D I also saw them at One Big Sunday once and will see them again... this month some time:p Kinesis was the other support for LP *yawn* they kinda sucked:p Destiny's Child, Basement Jaxx, A, Misteeq.

(2004)

Incubus! OMG!!! They were so fucking amazing:D :D They sang Black Hole Sun [Soundgarden], it was awesome:D 100 Reasons were Incubus' support, they were pretty good.

Uhh... I also saw The Who, Kasabian and Bob Dylan in June. Now Bob Dylan... have you ever listened to an album or something and not even noticed the track change? Well, that's what the Bob Dylan concert was like, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good either, yanno?

Dido, she was fantastic, she was so nice, making jokes about people with binoculars in the audience and everything:p Aqualung was her support and I just love their song Strange and Beautiful:D

Uhhh... Slipknot & Slayer: The Unholy Alliance Tour with Hatebreed as their support, it was... different, I'll give them that, still good none the less. But lets just say, it should be illegal for some people to walk around with their tshirts off, especially if they're sweaty:s

McFly. :O what do you mean they're cheesy?;) Nah, they were pretty good, sitting at the front is great:D

Katy Melua, she was really good, lovely voice:D Nice and mellow after Slipknot & Slayer:p

Avril Lavigne, I'd heard some of her live stuff before and let's be honest, some of it is terrible, but she was incredible, her voice was amazing. She did Nobody's Home, just her and her acoustic guitar, she also played electric guitar and piano, I was very impressed. Simple Plan were her support and they rocked:D Me and my sister loved it, but me thinkz no one but us knew who they were from the strange looks we were receiving:p

Bryan Adams was sooooo good and he was lovely, he had someone from the audience up on the stage singing with him:p Bless her.

Coming soon... ;) Blink 182, Busted, Lostprophets, Deep Purple, Beach Boys, Greenday uhmm... don't remember who else atm:p

This past saturday I went to the HFSNutcracker in Fairfax, VA and it was amazing. Keane, My Chemical Romance, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, and Velvet Revolver all played starting at 5pm and even though I don't care for most of the bands I still had a great time. The bands I wanted to see were My Chemical Romance, Franz Ferdinand and Jimmy Eat World, which all three ruled in my opinion but the best part of my concert experience happened the next morning when I got to the airport to fly back to Tampa.

I'm standing in the security line and it just so happens that the guitarists and bassist from MCR (Frank, Ray and Mikey) are standing right in front of me!!! I felt like such a nerd cuz I was standing there wearing my MCR jacket and listening to their CD while trying to get up the nerve to talk to them. Well I did and they were all so nice, I even got their autographs and talked to them about their show the night before and the show they were gonna have in Tampa that day which they had to bail out of. I still can't believe I was so lucky as to meet one of my favorite bands, that kinda stuff never happens to me.

hellyeahallday: HEY I WENT TO LINKIINMG PARK AND AVRIL LAVINGE TOO WOOO :bounce ! LP was and still is the best concert I've been to so far in my concert going career. :lol It was lectric and I can't describe the buzz I got from being there, I was screaming so much. Avril lavinge was ok, she was kool when she did the piano and drums, and me and mate were caracking up when we heard her hit a few wrong notes. Ah well, no one's perfect. She was good.

The latest one I've been to was BLINK 182!! :D I loved it so much. I'm a huge blink fan and even thought I wasn't even in the pit becuase al staning tickets were sold out, I still olvoed it there, I was on the phone to my bf during 'I miss you' :blush :P (love ya hun! :kiss2 ) Ahh greatness is blink 182...

My next concert, is something I don't know yet, I have nothing booksed so far, heh. But concerts rule. :)

La Grande Sophie

Postby BFR from Paris » Mon Dec 13, 2004 5:50 pm

Sorry, non-French kittens, you probably have never heard of her, but I just came back from her concert at L'Olympia (in Paris), and I had a blast!!!!! :bounce

Unfortunately, it was the last show of her tour, but I recommend her album "Et si c'était moi", and she's going to release a new one soon I guess (she played a few new songs and they sounded good :) )

It's nice to see an artist who is genuinely happy to be on stage (and headlining for the first time!) and she truly rocks!

I'm off to see Blink 182 at Brixton tonight so we'll see what the pit is like when we get there. I'm guessing 12 year olds with chains who'll hopefully get flattened but hey we'll see :devil

Broomstick - picking on 12 year olds, shame on you! 14 year old's are much more fun because they are under the misguided impression that they can take you!!! I haven't been into the pit in a good few years, I'm getting too old. Enjoy the gig!

Shame on me Walker I know this :wink

I have to say I was really looking forward to tonight, but it was the first gig I have ever walked out of early. They were s***! I don't know if they hadn't sound checked or anything, but normally I go to Brixton and get blown away with musical genius eg: Nine Inch Nails, White Stripes, Massive Attack, Audioslave, R.E.M. (they were damn fine in a small venue!) and virtually every other band I have ever seen play there but tonight was shite! Really shite. I was so disappointed :miff

I'm just hoping Blink do a Lost Prophets and redeem themselves. I first saw Lost Prophets a couple of years back, when the Fake sound of progress tour was just winding down and they were pretty awful I have to say, but I saw them again at Reading this year and they had got a hell of a lot better. But they were a fledgling band, just starting out, Blink have been around for years, what's their excuse?! Dammit, it was part of my gf's birthday present and we we gutted. Ah well, I 'm off to see the Music on 21st Dec, and I've seen them a couple of times before and they were stunning so I'm hoping they produce the goods again. Poxy Blink 182....

Interpol

Postby walker » Sun Dec 19, 2004 10:25 am

I went to see Interpol mid-week and I would whole heartedly recommend the experience to everyone. Secret Machine were supporting them. I'd heard a lot of good things about this band and before I talk about them I'd just like to say they have bags of potential. However...their songs are about five days long, well okay 10 to 15 minutes. They did one song that was only five minutes long and that was fantastic. They're only a three piece who try to do really complicated songs which, as a result of the lack of base, tend to sound a bit sparse.

On to the mighty Interpol. Immense. That's the only word to describe it. It was a gig where you threw your head back and got lost in the music in the midst of the purple haze from the light show. My highest recommendation and makes my top three live act's of the year list.

Broomstick79 - I feel for you mate. The first time I took my ex-girlfriend to see a gig was Placebo at the Glasgow Barrowlands. It was for her birthday and it was awful. Brian Molko threw a strop in the middle of what was already a half hearted performance. I hope the rest of your night was more of a success. You're in for a treat with The Music. I saw them a couple of months ago and they were great. They've really improved as a live band.

Walker,

I've seen the Music a couple of times and really enjoyed it so I'm hoping they just get better and better. The first time was at Reading a couple of years back which was marvellous as they were in one of the tents (Evening Session I think but I could be wrong) and Metallica were headlining the main stage at the same time and a chant of "Fuck Metallica, fuck Metallica!" went up during the set which was great fun :cool I also saw them earlier this year at the Astoria which was stunning so I hope they do the same at the Forum.

Funny thing about Placebo is I could never really stomach them, but I went along at Reading this year to see them on the main stage as my gf is a bit of a fan, and they were actually really quite good. Far better than reports I had heard of them a few years back. There could be hope for Blink yet :lol

I love going to concerts and shows. If there is a good show coming, I'll pull myself outta the working world and let loose for a night or two.

Some of the recent ones I went to were:

Green Day and NFG

Warped Tour 10th Anniversary Tour in Boston

Catch 22

Mustard Plug

The best show's I've seen were:

Low Dough Show w/ Unwritten Law. That was the sweetest show I ever went to for a dollar.

Mest w/ Madcap - Madcap was awesome. I had no clue who they were and I walked outta there with their CD

Sevendust - sounded freaking great live

Warped Tour 99' and 03'- THE best warped tours to date in my opinion.

System Of a Down- Seeing them play at Jones Beach with the ocean and the waves in the back round was just a great experience.

Green Day and NFG- It was just a great way to spend Halloween and Green Day was freaking AWESOME. They played old songs from Dookie and alot of new stuff from American Idiot.

So that's all for now on my list.

I've seen some fantastic shows. Guess I'm pretty lucky.

The recent best was the Scissor Sisters. Absolutely brilliant! SO much fun, so rude and raunchy and rocking and camp and fun. I'd love to see them live again. :party

I saw Patti Smith play once. THAT was probably the best concert I've ever been to. I was right down the front, directly in front of her mic-stand and she touched my hand as we al sang along to 'People Have the Power'. She is amazing and that show was a life-changer.

I got pulled up onstage at a Hole show once (after crowd-surfing my way to the front) THAT was fun. I still have some of the confetti that was on the stage. Courtney Love, despite what everyone says about her, ROCKS. She puts on a frickin' great show and makes sure the audience really gets involved. She really sticks up for the girls, too. Always giving her guitar away at the end to a girl and making her promise to learn how to play it.. :bow

I recently had the extreme fortune of seeing MUSE in concert, it was to say the least the best concert ive ever been to. They are such an amazing band and can do so many things with their music. I recommend everyone to see them, they are above and beyond a great live show.

Also The Arcade Fire is another great show, they have an intense energy about them when they play, every member contributes soemthing different and that is always a great thing.

Doves

Postby walker » Sun Apr 10, 2005 5:18 am

It is Sunday now, I saw the Doves play on Friday and have only just managed to post about it. Why? Because I've been flying ever since.

I own all of the Doves albums but to be honest they don't make their way onto my CD player all that often. That may now change. They're a bit like Muse in that if you really want to appreciate their music, you HAVE to see them live. They started their set with Pounding, one of the all time great British songs, and unbelievably the gig got better from there. I loved every minute. Also the last song was sung by their drummer who may actually be the best front man in the band.

The sign of a great support is that, even though you're waiting for the main act to come on, you want them to play on. The Magic Numbers were supporting the Doves and I definitely wanted to hear more. I took to them instantly. This is helped by the fact that they write great melodies. My favourite song, and I do apologise because I've forgotten its' name, sounded like a cross between Kings of Leon and the Polyphonic Spree if you can imagine that. I met them after the gig and they were lovely, I hope they go on to great things.

Usually, no big bands ever come to my city, but a few months ago one of the biggest bands in my country came. The band was Bersuit Vergarabat (which doesn't really mean anything in spanish) and it also happens to be one of my favourites, so I was on cloud nine. :D

When we went to the show, most people where already there, so we had to stay pretty far back and could bearly see them. By the third song, however, my best friend got sick of not seeing and we made our way to the front. It wasn't such a big imrovement since we were on the far left side, but soon they started letting people get closer to the middle of the front area. We ended up so close we could almost touch the stage. :cool

Postby ringwaldoeuvre » Sat Apr 30, 2005 3:38 pm

I can't believe I didn't see this thread a long time ago. I go to live shows all the time. My favorite live act is Interpol, hands down. I've seen them five times, and each time was absolutely wonderful. They put interesting little changes into each song without making it impossible to hear. It helps that they are one of my very favorite bands, but they also put on an amazing show with tight sets and great hooks. "Word" to the people who mentioned Interpol already.

Other bands I would recommend:

(1) The Rapture. They really kick out the jams. They use a COW BELL, and they're dead serious about it. It's not a gag, it's part of the music.

(2) The Polyphonic Spree, or Jesuspalooza as I like to think of them. It is good to see them just to see them all on stage. They have a lot of energy, and they wear colorful robes.

(3) Sleater-Kinney. They know what's up. They have a lot of energy, and they usually do one great cover song. Examples include the B-52's "Private Idaho," Bikini Kill's "Rebel Girl," and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" as an ode to Bush.

(4) Le Tigre. It's really a multi-media experience, and they turn politically charged music into a dance party.

(5) Franz Ferdinand. They strut while playing a tight set! Their hair is floppy and they have Scottish brogues! The lead singer has more presence than all the member of a boy band, combined!

My favorite isolated musical experiences have been:

(1) Rene Risque & the Art Lovers at Joe's Pub, in NYC. Aside from being a whole lot of salacious fun, Moby just, ya know, showed up and played "Sweet Child o' Mine." It was rad.

(2) The Curiosa Festival, Randall's Island, NY, mostly because I got to see the Cure despite being born the year "Boys Don't Cry" came out.

(3) The Pixies. Twice. In NYC. Sure, I was 10 when "Debaser" changed my life and 12 when Kim Deal and Black Francis decided they'd had enough, but they got the band back together and I thank them for it. Kim Deal's version of "In Heaven (Everything Is Fine)" was magical.

(4) Paul van Dyk, Central Park Summerstage, August 2003. I love trance music, and PvD is one of the best DJs in the entire world. I've now seem him five times, and he always does something new and exciting. His CP set was transformative.

(5) Death Cab for Cutie, 2004 Siren Festival, Coney Island, NY. I just needed to hear "Information Travels Faster" next to the Cyclone. Mission accomplished.

Bands that disappointed:

(1) The Strokes, MSG 2003. Julian Casablancas thinks he's a hipster rockstar. He's half right.

(2) Modest Mouse, but mostly because I loathe Hammerstein Ballroom with a deep fiery passion. It's like listening to a band in a windtunnel, with surly staff that overcharge for a Corona.

(3) Mike Doughty. I've seen him five times, and at first he rocked the casbah. His sets were sedate yet charming, and his album "Skittish" remains one of my favorites. Lately, not so much. Why is he covering Kenny Rogers? Why?

I have yet to see, and am dying to catch The White Stripes, Scissor Sisters, The Arcade Fire, FischerSpooner, Bloc Party, Les Savy Favs, Massive Attack, U2, the Fever, The Distillers, Grandaddy, Lali Puna, and Broken Social Scene.

I have opinions on so many other bands, and concert experiences, but these stick out. Perhaps I will add more later. Good to see others share some of my taste, and now I know about more bands! Thanks.

I'm not sure how relevant this will be to anyone but my housemate just got a text from the bass player of the Futureheads CONFIRMING that they're going to play at the Stadium of Light at the weekend before the Sunderland v Stoke game. That followed by the lifting of the Championship Trophy at the end of the game should make it one hell of a party! If anyone is lucky enough to have tickets have a brilliant time. I had the chance of a ticket but am instead moving house. :happy I don't think I like having adult responsibilities.

Last weekend, my friend Susie Glaze and her bluegrass band did a concert to mark the release of their new CD, Blue Eyed Darlin'. Not a big event in the grand scheme of things, but noteworthy in Kitten terms because Susie's husband, Steve Rankin, was the actor who played Mr. MacLay on Buffy. I did the photography for Susie's website, so now you get to see Mr. MacLay play bluegrass: :)

Image Image

Steve has played a lot of military roles in his career, so it was pretty amusing to hear him sing John Prine's Vietnam-era song, "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven." The chorus goes like this:

Your flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven anymore.
They’re already overcrowded
From your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like Killin’
No matter what the reasons for.
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore.
Now there's something you don't see every day... unless you're us...
