The Observations by Jane Harris. Seems to be in a Sarah Waters-Fingersmith vein.

I'm reading The Hike by Don Shaw.

It concerns the adventures of three retired men (Don, Phil & Freddy) as they go hiking round the Peak District. Phil is doing it in the hopes the exercise will keep him young, Freddy wants to take in the view and find the meaning of life while Don is there to act as a referee between the other two.

It's a very funny book. In the bit I just read we had Phil's vision of planes in the future. They'll be flown by a pilot and his dog. the pilot will be there to feed the dog and the dog's there to bite the pilot if he tries to touch anything.

You might all be interested in this site http://www.librarything.com/

It lets you enter your book collection and then compare them to what other people are reading.

This is what the site says

[blockquote]Enter what you're reading or your whole library—it's an easy, library-quality catalog. Because everyone else is doing it too, LibraryThing connects you with people who read the same things.[/blockquote]

I've just signed up and it seems pretty easy to use

Erica Spindler - Forbidden Fruit.

It didn't seem like my cup of tea, but my friend recommended it and I have read a book by Erica Spindler before that was a really great read! This book has been good so far and I'm 100 pages in.

"Mirror Mirror" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" are both on my massive list of books I plan to read in the future. Right now, though, I'm reading the fifth Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", because I like having them fresh in my mind when I see the movies. (I know, it's about a year yet before the movie comes out...but it seemed like a good summer choice.)

I'm reading Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan - its like the fifitieth book in the Wheel of Time Series (actually its only the twelfth...or the eleventh, I forget, but it feels like there is an endless number of them!) ....and it's crap, crap, crap, crap! I'm only reading it because I've read all the others and feel compelled to continue. the series started out with such a promise but I started switching off as soon as there become too many characters to keep a track of and the main guy got three girlfriends...load of rubbish if you ask me.

I have about six different books on the go. The Narnia Chronicles (rereading them in English and French at the same time - I'm a cheat, I know), A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson), Good Omens (Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman), The Word and The Void (Terry Brooks) Hans Christian Anderson - The Complete Stories (HUGE book. It fell on my head and gave me concussion lol), The Road Not Taken and Other Poems (Robert Frost) and Boudica - Dreaming The Eagle (Manda Scott).

Okay, that's eight. I lied.

I've just been re-reading The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis. A wonderful novel about an orphan girl who becomes a chess champion despite problems with depression, alcohol and tranquilizers. Liking it so much I think I'll re-read a couple of his other books too.

I'm planning on investigating that series one day. A friend (who I've long since lost touch with) recommended the books to me a couple of years back, and I bought the first one. I haven't read it yet (just skimmed the prologue to get a feel for it) and I like the style of writing. It seems interesting. I am a little concerned about following the series if it means reading twelve 800-page books though...

I had a bad week last week, so spent the whole weekend relaxing and reading. I re-read 3 of Robin McKinley's books: Beauty, Rose Daughter (both retellings of the Beauty and the Beast story) and Spindle's End (a retelling of Sleeping Beauty). Lovely way to spend the time.

I just started Language of Love: Non-violent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg. I'm quite looking forward to it partially because I was very pleased with the way my wife's language and behavior changed rapidly when she read it.
