Wow! So many talented people!

I love to paint and sketch. I play the flute, clarinet, violin, alto sax and drums, with flute as my main instrument. I adore Broadway musicals (God, I am such a nerd), and Shakespeare and poetry. I swim and play tennis and practice yoga... and I collect Starbucks cups because I love those "As I see it..." sayings. And I love doing people's hair and experimenting with pretty colours in make-up. Ugh, I have such a Cordy streak, despite my geek-infested roots... ;-)

I finished another blanket. The big brother of the baby who got the last one was always wanting to hold the baby's blanket because it was so soft so I made him one.

Now I'm almost done with a Sacque for our baby. It's the first thing I've made that wasn't flat like a blanket or scarf or a hat. It's been a challenge but it's coming out cute.

Thanks Emms. My wife and I have gotten into quite an evening watch C.S.I. dvds and crochet habit. I made a Sacque and bonnet for Lucky although it has no buttons or lace yet. I'm now making the one and only blanket that I'll make for Lucky (he/she already has plenty of them). I'm sure I'll finish it this week.

Hey everyone!

I recently finished a small knitting project. I call these (well, this one as the second one is unfinished) my Bob Cratchit Gloves. I love them because they keep your hands warm, but you can still type and manipulate small objects while you're wearing them. The yarn is Opal Brand Rainforest Tiger, and the stripes just make themselves. It's fun to work with, but it's really fine and I had to use size 1 US needles (2.25 for the Europeans among us).

Diane - those are great. My wife is always teasing me that I need some of those because it used to be really really cold at my desk (I moved a year or so ago at work) but I type all day long. Can you imagine if I wore those in to work? Lol.

Thanks, Deb! If you wore those to work, everyone would just die of jealousy.

Well, maybe not, but it's fun to think about.

Hello everyone.
my hobbies are draw, write, and other stuff like doing boxes and all
well not making them, but I patch napkin in paper on them, in a artistic way.
I have another hobby: take care of animals and learn about them. Even the one I don't like. :)
Oh and walk in the mountain or forest. Unfortunately I live in a city.

JustSkipIt: I like your blankets they're very nice. I am used to do thing in crochet too but I know only the simple point... so the speciality of my things is more in the draw in them. (little sleeve for portable, scarf...)

I just finished the blanket for our friends's girl who will be a big sister in January/February. (Thus, it's called a "big sister" blanket.). I made this one with purple and some varigated. Rachel is making the other big sister (her identical twin) pink with the same varigated in the same pattern. Then for the baby (a boy) we will use the varigated with some blue accent so it all ties.

Full picture

Also, one of our best friends birthday is today. She started crocheting a few years ago but bored of it and moved to knitting. But while she was crocheting she started a huge afghan for her brother-in-law. Then it sat for a long time. While she was out of the country, we got it from her husband and finished it for her. I think most likely she will be totally thrilled but she may not be. I'm kind of excited about it. I won't post a picture of it because it's just a huge gray/brown afghan, nothing interesting.

I just made a wiggly hat for a friend's boy's 1st birthday party next week. I can't claim the design; Rachel invented it for Asher a few years ago. Two years ago we made 5-6 of these for X-mas for other kids and that's how I learned to crochet. It amazes me; the first ones I did took weeks and now this one took about an hour and a half. Wow.

Me again. I finished the blanket for my friend's baby (due in April or May). It was the hardest and most tedious blanket I've made yet. I don't think I would make it again.

It includes 169 colored or white circles with the colored ones varying in their edging. Then I had to sew them all together.

Here is a bit more detail.

Ok, this blanket took a little longer but I still got it finished about 2 days after the baby arrived. I've never done this pattern before but my sister-in-law does it all the time. Here's the detail. I found it a really boring pattern and don't think I'll do it again.

I just finished a blanket for the boy next door. Our neighbors adopted siblings who are nearly 3 and nearly 2. My wife is finishing a blanket for the girl and I made this one for the boy. With the exception of a skein of green, I used all hodgepodge yarn that I had (in the three huge bins of yarn in our closet) and just did some, then switched colors when I felt like it. I think it looks cool.

When we asked my niece what she wanted for her birthday, she said just a new snuggly blankie. Years ago Rachel made her a full-sized blanket and a little one to take to day care. Now she's 6 and has worn out the day care blanket. So made her this blanket as a new snuggly. It's about 16" x 16". We'll also send a few books.

Just so Deb doesn't have to triple post with her next project, I've been working on my backyard. While I'm certainly not the farm girl that Boschi is, lots of progress has been made. We rolled out the weed blocker fabric today, and later in the week, we'll be adding rocks and mulch. I can't wait to have the first kebab party of the season with the fire dish.

I also have a pretty happy little garden on my back deck. Since we live in the woods, gardening is not easy, so I just work with what I have.

Hey, it keeps me off the streets.

Weed blocker fabric's are fantastic, but in my experience a double layer is more effective. They work by blocking out light, but being pourous it also allows enough uv to filter through to aid germination.

Some perennial weeds can make their way up through it, and living in the woods, I would image that you will be bothered with a lot of tree seedlings, which have a strong taproot that can penetrate down through it. If you have enough fabric put down another layer. Roll this out in the opposite direction as some weeds are quite clever and will work their way up where the overlap is when working with a single layer.

Hope you don't mind the advice, but my customer service mode kicked in :)

Hey, I never mind good advice. Thank you very much.

Because the ground is so rocky and packed, the weeds aren't really a huge issue, but you're right on the money about the tree seedlings (here in Virginia, we call them "volunteers"), so I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks again.

Wow. Diane, that all looks awesome. I wish you would come and do the weedblocker here. We need to move the 4000 pounds of recycled tire we have around the playscape, put down weed blocker, and put it back. The only thing... I thought you rented? You did all this work on a rental?

Nope, we own the house. I would never do that much work for a rental, but I understand your confusion.

Here is the blanket for the new toddler girl next door (see the post above for the story on the new kids). My wife was supposed to make one blanket while I made the other but her's ended up too small so now it's a baby blanket (beautiful) in reserve and we'll give the kids these two.

Last night I finished the blanket for a friend at work. I actually started it for another friend but she is having a girl for sure and I have another girl blanket finished but this one is not finding out and since the blanket is neutral, I'm giving it to the friend who doesn't know. I hope that makes sense. It's a pattern I've done three times including once for Chiara although I switched the dark and light colors. I think I like it better with the light main than the dark.

I love to do puzzles. My older sister and I put them together and then I glue them. We have maybe close to 20 puzzles already glued together in the basement. Next, we are going to buy frames to put them in. Hopefully it comes out looking okay in the frames.

I have finished the hats for the kids for Christmas. By the kids I mean all the kids we know who we haven't given hats to in the past. This year that is 6 kids plus I haven't made one for Chiara yet. Here is a picture of Chiara modeling what the hats look like put together. Here are the hats for Joey & Dylan - both 11 or 12 months old and sons of big Longhorn fans (burnt orange and white), Jayden - 3 years old and rainbow colored, Daniel - 7 months old smaller rainbow, Emma - 2 months old - purple, Avelyn - 7 months old pink. And a friend for whom I made a blanket is going into labor early (bed rest right now) so I'm actually going to give her 2 year old the big rainbow hat and make Jayden a new one.

Now I've started on Chiara's Christmas dress. I am using good quality yarn and it is so wonderful. I don't know if I'll ever go back to using the crap I've used for 3 years.
