tommo - not sure if I should have e-mailed this or posted it. As I'm only an hour away from the mighty Manchester I'll leave it up to rather more far flung kittens to decide but early September is fine with me. :)

Chicago Gathering II

Postby Garner » Thu Mar 27, 2003 3:20 pm

I thought I would just mention again that we are having a Kitten gathering in Chicago, Saturday May 10th and that all Chicago and extended area, or even just passing through Kittens, are welcome to come and join us! I just got my plane tickets in so I will definitely be there!

Right now I think it is time to firm up exactly where and when we are going to meet. Hopefully Brooke or Danielle or even Tim will start making suggestions and we can reach a consensus and get things set.

Last time was lots of fun (see earlier in the thread!) and this time should be as well. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Moody's was a big hit, maybe we could just meet back there?

Unless I can think of somewhere else....but nothing that accomodating comes to mind really. There is Tommy Nevins in Evanston that has great Irish food and beer etc.

Its not to far from where I'm at and is accessible by the L. No beer garden though and we might have trouble getting a table since a lot of local college kids go there..

Moody's works for me. It had a nice atmosphere, pretty good food and enough room on the outdoor patio to fit all the kittens who showed up. And it's only a block and a half from the EL, which makes it convenient as far as public transportation is concerned. Since I'm a foreigner, I'll leave any other suggestions to the native kitties.

Hey, Moodys was fine last time and could work again. The other Irish place could be cool too, just for something a little different, as long as it isn't too loud. At least Moodys wasn't overly noisy and we could all hear each other! And the space was fine too.

Hey Southside Chicago Kitty here, I'm up for anthing just need an addy and directions and I should be good. I'd suggest some Southside bars here, but think that it's a bit far for the rest of you. Anywhere we go should be fun, looking forward since I missed the last one.

Moodys is by the Red line correct?

I have no idea what I'll be doing at that point since it is just on the cusp of Natalie being able to drive on her own again (you see how you feel after someone cuts an 18" hole in your abdomen).

Anyway I am up for some stuff as well. Gotta feel it out.

H i Tim! Yes, Moody's is on the Red Line, about a block and a half southwest of the Thorndale stop. I hope Mrs. WebWarlock is feeling beter soon so that you'll both be able to attend.

I vote Moody's so long as someone makes sure I don't drink so much in my hotel room that end up passing out before I even get a chance to go.

Postby Garner » Wed Apr 02, 2003 12:23 pm

Well, it seems like Moody's is a popular choice so barring better ideas let's go with that. There should be directions and description and all that further back around page 3-5 in this thread, but maybe someone who is more than semi-conscious can repost them. At least being sick now means I'll be fine by the time the Gathering comes around.

Oewww, Kirby, if someone is going to pass out I'll have to be sure to order more spray on hair! :) Nothing like it, I tell ya.

As for time and all that. The Cubs game starts at 1:30 I believe, so I think we should easily be able to get there by 6pm? Does that work for everyone else? Come whenever after that, stay as long as you want. And if there is any interest we can always do something else later if anyone is so interested.

Well, I'll be out with you before hand, so no drinking ;P we save that for later.

Moody's is at 5910 N. Broadway St., just south of Thorndale.

Chicago Gathering Side Note I

Postby WiccansIllusion » Fri Apr 11, 2003 6:23 pm

I don't know who all is interested, but I just found out James Marsters band, Ghost of the Robot is playing on May 10th, at 10 pm. In Park Ridge. Now that happens to be the same night as the Chicago Kitten meet up..I'm midly interested in going, is anyone else?

Ah interesting. Is that part of the Buffy con that is going on that weekend as well? Park Ridge is a ways from downtown and Moody's, but since we are meeting early enough, at 6, that does leave some time for a last minute decision on site. I would suggest that you find out how much tickets are, exactly where it is, and what the capacity is so we'll know if it's sold out really early or not.

As for myself I am interested, but I may have to wait and see how I feel that night, and who else wants to go. Read I can be talked into going, but am not pysched one way or another.

I thought Ghost of the Robot was going to be appearing at the Buffy Con at the Rosemont Arena in Rosemont that weekend. Are they also going to be appearing in Park Ridge, and is this event separate from the Buffy Convention? I’ll probably be leaving town and heading back to MI after leaving Moody’s, but I suppose I could reconsider if some people want to attend the concert.

Hey all,

Just thought I would remind anyone who might happen to be in the Chicago area next weekend, 10 May (Saturday) that there is a Kitten Gathering at Moody's at 6 pm and that everyone and their Sig O's are invited to stop by. Last year was tons of fun and even non-Chicagoans are most definitely welcome!

Chicago Area Weather Report Heads Up for Kitten Gathering 2

This is an important heads up for everyone attending the game, as well as the beer garden tonight.

On Saturday there are supposed to be thunderstorms and a high of 68. Weather wise thats not bad, but it means one thing..

no Beer Garden.

Moodys itself can be pretty unbearably hot on the inside. If this is still alright with everyone we can do that. The other drawback is that no beer garden means no big table pretty much. They may be able to put together a bunch of large tables for us, but I may get there early and see what it's like.

Anyone have any other suggestions otherwise? Maybe somewhere in Wriggleyville for those ball game kittens?

WI aka Brooke

Also a final head count would be awesome if people just want to say they are or aren't going in the thread. If the weather is bad, I'd like to be able to give the people at moody's some idea of how many people are coming.

Brooke, I also heard that there may be rain this weekend. If that is the case, my suggestion is to start at Moody's as that is where we have been planning to meet, but with a good backup as an alternative. One of those you may have mentioned before perhaps? Anyone else with an idea?

As for numbers, I know Unionjill will be there with a guest, I think Kim and Arryn will make it. Tim is questionable now with family in town, Elaine and I will be there of course, not sure about anyone else. My guess would be for 6-8 with 6 maybe being more likely.

I will try and give you a call Friday night and check how things are looking. We should know better weather wise then too.

Well, another Chicago Kitten Gathering is done, and it was a fun time. We drank less beer, meaning that I was doing most of the drinking since Web Warlock couldn't make it. His family came in to see baby Warlock and thus many beers went undrunk! Still we had several newer kittens who weren't there last year make it and we thought of Tommo/Ruth for a short bit and said "smut" in her honor. We started earlier and got done earlier since people had to drive that night and a big storm was coming. Which, I managed to miss and make it home just before it hit.

I may have pictures next week, but will be away from a scanner till then at the earliest and didn't have a digital camera. Oh well. Everyone that came it was great to see you and meet in RL. It was lots of fun and maybe next time we'll have a better timed weekend than Mother's Day.

As always, it was fun to get together with other kittens and meet new members of our community. We were fortunate enough to have the real nasty weather hold off until later in the evening when I was on my way out of town, so everything managed to work out pretty well. Oh, except for the baseball game. The Cubs beat my Cardinals on an Alex Gonzalez home run in the bottom of the tenth inning. :rage I’m looking forward to our next get together. And here’s another toast to Ruth and smut.
