I had a big ol' meatloaf sandwich. Best lunch I've had in weeks.

And a cup of coffee. Black coffee.

Wouldn't it be funny if gorn's black coffee fetish was all just an act and someone caught him in a Starbucks ordering some kind of half-caf-soy-caramel-frapawhatsit?

Topic: Just went out to lunch at a neighborhood joint and ate (among a few other lovely things) the best fries of my life. Batter dipped and crispy perfection. Revelatory. I hereafter forsake all other comfort foods for those fries.

I'll be honest, I do enjoy the occasional mocha-latte-whatever at Starbucks (with extra whipped cream, no less) ... but it is only an occasional indulgence. And I don't particularly think of it is coffee; I order it as I would a sundae at Dairy Queen. Around the autumn & winter seasons they tend to have nice specials that I admit I enjoy. But black, bitter coffee - dark roast at the LIGHTEST - is my everyday workhorse coffee. It gets me up in the morning, helps me drive to work, helps me find the On button on my computer, keeps me company while I browse the news & the Kittenboard, and accompanies me to every single meeting all day long.

Right now, though, I would dearly love some of Leaf's fries. Even bad fries are still pretty good, but really good fries are a gift from Heaven.

On topic - Mrs. Gorn's leftover meatloaf (yum!), rice pilaf, refried mashed potatoes, and something she created from spinach, shrimp, and garlic. Fantastic.

I so have to disagree here. Bad fries are just bad. They aren't even the slightest good. I wouldn't give them to a dog.

On topic: I am having some sweet pastries with some OJ.

How much would I love some pan cakes!

Spinach? gorn ate a vegetable? Fascinating.

On topic: hot tea and some granola and yogurt. Which just pales in comparison to great fries, meatloaf sandwiches and mexican food. Sigh.

Oh wow - sumac. A local restaurant near me used to make this incredible sumac cauliflower, but for some reason they stopped. Bummer.

As for me: hot tea and a couple mint oreos.

Let me get this out of the way up front - I drank a lot of black coffee today. And it was black.

No, I'm having a tall glass of Sprite now. I've never particularly liked Sprite, it always seemed like Mt. Dew Lite, or Mt. Dew Clear to me. And then I learned it had no caffeine and I lost complete interest in it. Mrs. Gorn has banned me from drinking all but the most occasional Mt. Dew for a long time now, though ... and yet, for no reason I can immediately see, she's started bringing Sprite into the house. And she lets me drink it. To be fair, I have heard that clear sodas are not quite as bad as the colored ones (oh, how I miss my Yellow #5 ...), and yeah, the no caffeine might not be a bad thing, either.

I don't know. I laughed in the face of Sprite for years, but I'm rather enjoying it now.

p.s. You can EAT sumac? Isn't it a weed that gives you a horrible rash, like Poison Ivy?
