My favorite people!

Postby WebWarlock » Mon Feb 09, 2004 6:42 am

Here are some new ones of 2 (of 3) of the people I love most in the whole world. The third was taking the pictures! ;)

My little guys.

Yeah the big one in glasses is me. We all have my dad's eyes.

Well I can't imagine my life without my boys.

Here is the deal. It's hard work, it's often times thankless and nerve wracking. When they are away from you you worry the whole time. When they are with you you wonder what happened to your "down time". Your life is no longer 100% your own.

And yet none of that stuff is important when you this little perfect person look up at you with those "I love you daddy" eyes and smile and you know you are the center of their universe.

Life is never ever the same.

I never experieced "love at first sight" in my life. But when I saw my first boy born and they handed me that tiny little guy I felt it. I knew that to be their father was one of the reasons I was here.

Nothing has ever made me happier, with the exception of my marriage, and nothing has ever destroyed me as much as losing our daughter. But I would still have another one.

Though we are *finally* getting our nights back. ;)

Yeah a little girl would be nice.

It's a choice you have to make, but it is one I would do again.

Thanks for the comments all! I am partial to the basket one myself. Connor is such a little pudge ball. :)

Pictures of Tim's gorgeous boys is prompting me to ask a question. Lately, I've been hit with a strong desire to have a kid. When I look at it rationally, I can think of a million and one reasons to not do it. But that isn't stopping the urge, though, because I can also think of several good things about it (not a million, however). Maybe it's because I recently turned 38 and my hormones are going crazy? Can anyone offer any advice?

sperm donor issues

Postby badkitty » Mon May 17, 2004 3:15 pm

Hello Kittens!

I am hoping y'all might be able to help me with some issues my partner and I are dealing with right now. We are preparing to start a family in the next few months. She is going to carry the child. We found an anonymous donor from a sperm bank here in Columbus. The donor seems like a really good choice.

Here's the wrinkle: My ex, who has turned out to be my best friend (aside from my partner) married a man. He is the most gentle, good natured male I have ever met. He's a doctor, so he's smart. He has two kids from a previous marriage. Anyway, during a conversation with my friend, she mentioned his availability as a sperm donor. It had never come up before because I certainly wasn't going to ask, they knew I had a preference for someone of Italian heritage (which my friend's hubby is not) and it just didn't come up. The reason it did is because his precocious 13 year old girl kept asking them about it (we all think she's a little dykeling ;) Anyhow.

Now we're seriously considering this offer. Btw, my ex is also about two months pregnant with their first child together.

They are completely ok with this, both of them. While there are legal issues, trust me when I say that they are not a major concern to us. It's not as if we're ignoring them, it's just that my post has to do with advice I'd like in another area.

My selfishness makes me lean toward the anonymous donor. It cuts out the "weirdness" factor of having my friend be the biological father of my child. He'd be the child's father, but not his/her "dad." In other words, NO SHARED PARENTING.

The child would only find out who his/her biological father was when he/she got old enough and curious enough to ask. Then we'd tell the truth. We'd likely refer to him as Uncle Steven, because that's how I'll likely have my children refer to all of our adult friends - as aunt or uncle so and so.

The part of me, the larger part of me, that is primarily concerned with the well being of my child, leans towards using my friend, because then he/she will have a father who is, however peripherally, part of his/her life. We are good friends, and do socialize often. There's always been this nagging feeling that I'd want my child to be able to know who his/her father is if they want. In Ohio, using an anonymous donor, that's just not possible.

So, there's my dilemma. I think I would feel that my partner and I would be more of a cohesive family unit with just the three of us, with just her and I as the only parents the child would ever know. That'll be the case either way - but if we use my friend's sperm, then there's that biological link that A) makes things weird and B) makes me feel a bit more outside the process that I'd want to be. My partner is pretty much where I am in this "torn between two donors" issue. When it comes down to it, we both want to do what's best for our child.

Anyway, that's about it. Anyone have similar issues, or know anyone who does? Thanks for listening/reading!

Gail

And she is painfully aware of how cute she is. She sort of gets away with murder (sometimes mass murder) because of it. Her big brother is great with her, calls her "bean", and loves to play with her.

BTW: The "Anonymous" people on the thread , I was able to rebuild the original posts and I can put the original names here or give them to a mod to update.

Here's mine, Jordan, with her idol last year. ;-) She gave up a speaking part in the school play because she didn't want to miss seeing Amber this Saturday. :p

I have no idea how to embed a picture in the thread. My daughter who is now 4 is in my avatar. The avatar is about 9 months old. My son is 8. They are totally awesome and fun although right now it's bedtime which is always such work...

I upload to photobucket and then copy/paste the image code in the thread.

If anyone wants The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians and/or The Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth let me know and I'll send them along. I put them on ebay and no one bid and I'd rather give them to someone than Half-Price Books.

Every once in a long while, our children can surprise us.
My son is 13 now, and not afraid to let everybody know at all times he is a teen.
But recently my wife showed me an outline he did for school. He was supposed to write about
someone he looked up to, and he picked me. Here was his outline of bullet points
(note: I later found out my wife asked him to leave out "balding", which is a absurd, I am in no way losing my hair).

*he's very smart
*his job is being a computer engineer
*he wears glasses, has long black hair, a beard and mustache
*he's tall and strong
*knows how to fix a lot of things
*he's kind and funny
*he plays role-playing games, board games, and video games
*he went to the colleges, Michigan State and MIT
*he's from Detroit, Michigan
*his birthday is July 5th, the same as his younger brother
*has one brother and one sister
*teaches me about computers and other things
*makes pancakes on weekend mornings
*bad driver
*good navigator
*likes "Star Trek" and "Star Wars"
*favorite movie is The Godfather
*has a couple of teeth missing
*likes to take naps
*has ADHD
*likes to read a lot
*broken toes
*went to Japan when he was 16
*went to Romania last year
*beaten up, old car
*likes Bar-B-Q
*likes horror movies
*likes chili and sushi
*leaves clothes and cups all over the place
*forgets to do the dishes a lot
*can't see the color purple
*bad singer
