Re: Chaos Bleeds link to clues

Here's another link to faqs that might be of use...

www.gamefaqs.com/console/...36573.html

Regarding Faith vs Kakistos (from Bloodstone's Boss FAQ):

Before going into the battle with Kakistos, you'll get 2 medi-paks. It's also wise to have at least one more just in case.

After the cut scene, immediately start running around. The glowing orbs surrounding in the outer areas all must be destroyed before fighting Kakistos. Any damage you do to him, the orbs will just recover for him, so get rid of these.

You'll also have zombies rising from the ground, but these are no problem. Kakistos will also throw hellfire at you, making this fight even tougher. Start the fight by running the edges of the

area, hitting the orbs as you go, but don't stop running just yet.

It's best to do a jumping kick as you pass an orb. Like before, the orbs won't take any damage unless dim, but still, just hit them as you pass, just in case they do happen to go dim.

Kakisto's hellfires will be thrown in front of you, in an attempt for you to run into them. If you hear the sound of him throwing it, stop moving for the second it takes it to miss, or turn in the opposite direction and let it miss, then continue in your original direction.

He usually throws around two to four hellfires at a time, so when you see the first hellfire, be ready for more, and you should be able to avoid these.

After running in one giant circle over and over, Kakistos and the zombies will eventually follow you (note that Kakistos isn't as dumb as the zombies, and will sometimes break out of the following pattern).

When you're a good enough distance ahead of them, get on the backside of an orb and begin an all out attack on it. I say to get on the backside, because Kakistos could throw hellfires, and this will make the orb suck up most of the damage from it.

If the zombies get too close, you can waste them if you want, more will just come, but my advice would be to not waste the time unless you get low on energy and are out of medi-pak's, then maybe they can restore a small amount. If Kakistos gets close, start running again.

After all the orbs are gone, Kakistos should be no problem. Attack him head on, and bring his energy down. He fights like the other vamps, and since he is a vampire, you'll need to stake him to finish him off. I haven't tried it, but hellfire and holy water may also work to finish him, since he is a vampire.

Hope that helped. :)

Re: xbox vs. ps2

Postby Betty2000 » Mon Mar 15, 2004 5:54 pm

Hello kittens!

I used to have a PS2 but it got stolen (grrrr).

Now my game fingers are itching and I was considering getting an xbox as a replacement. I'm told it has better graphics etc, but there don't seem to be as many games for it.

So, my question is: do you have one or the other and does it rock your world (or not)?

Any advice appreciated :)

Fatal Frame & Fatal Frame 2:Crimson Butterfly

Postby Shinnen » Mon Mar 15, 2004 8:43 pm

This is far by the creepiest game i've ever laid my hands on. I'm not easily creeped out... but this two games... original and the sequel... which is a totally new story... only using similar game play and has nothing to do with the previous story... are the best. The gameplay is a little bit slow. I meant quite quite slow because the character is actually walking all the time and when there's a ghost or something spine tingling nearby that the character senses but not necessarily see, on a PS2 you'll feel the heart beat of the character, controller vibration. There's also this from the corner of your eye you can spot things. They appear and disappear just before you can see them... if you're fast enough.. you can capture them on the camera. Here's the site to fatal frame and fatal frame 2.

Fatal Frame

Fatal Frame 2

I'm working my way through the first game. I've only turned on the second one to look at. But it's really awesome. Check it out everyone.

Betty, I don't have a PS2 but I did just get an Xbox and I love it.

I got a few games, and they all look amazing. Right now, I'm addicted to Halo and I really can't wait for Halo 2 :lol

The Xbox is more powerful (and has a built in hard drive, so no more memory cards :party ) but the PS2 has more games.

I've only had my Xbox a few weeks, but I can say that in the few games I have, the graphics are amazing and I've just been having a blast. I really don't think you can go wrong with it.

I don't have a PS2, but I love my Xbox. i'd still like a PS2, solely because I could also play all my old PS1 games.

But the Xbox has slightly better graphics, and the built in hard drive is great - you can copy your CDs onto it, then in some games, like Amped and Grand Theft Auto, you can make your own soundtrack.

And more and more games are being released for the XBox, so that is less of an issue than it was 3 or so years ago.

And I also find that the Xbox controller doesn't aggravate my OOS (rsi, or whatever it's called this week) - whereas I can now only hold a playstation controller for 30 minutes before it will cripple me for a couple of days. So for me anyway, that is a big thumbs up.

Hey there, thanks for the link to more help, I've needed it believe me.

I left the game alone for over a week as it was really P'ing me off. I lost count of the number of times K killed F. I even started the whole level again in case I could build up a few more Medipacks, no such luck!

Hopefully now I'm all fresh and ready for another round with the succa!

Kieli, I was obsessed with the sierra adventure games when I was younger. I've even still got my old, old 486 laptop so I can run "Gold Rush" - but even that runs it just a little to fast.

I wasn't a huge fan of leisure suit larry - I think I was too young. I spend many, many hours trying to get through Police Quest - I never finished it the first time around. I have now, I found the Police Quest Collection on CD a few years ago, and spent three weeks playing through all the games. I've also got the space quest collection - which is just a little bit more confusing, and just plain funny and strange.

oh, I'm all nostalgic for the old games now!! I wish sierra would go back into making games like that again.

D3 and HL2 release dates - approx. 12th of Never

Postby maudmac » Fri Mar 19, 2004 9:38 am

I must vent.

I kinda had my FPS-loving heart set on DOOM 3 and Half-Life 2 coming out soonish. A while back, word was maybe April. Pffft. Now it's looking like June. I'm seeing even as late as November in a few places. Basically, the consensus is that they'll be out when they come out. My FPS-loving heart is not happy! :cry

I suppose I could always finish No One Lives Forever 2, but it has too much stealth crap! Bugs me. I hate tiptoeing. Cate Archer is damn fine, though, and the NOLF series has my undying loyalty for having both excellent gameplay and a female main character.

Any FPS fans out there, Call of Duty and Medal of Honor (both WWII) are both really good. I hope I don't get so desperate for some shooting goodness that I have to play both of them again so soon after I finished them.

Bleh!

They still have me on their members list, but I havn't had time to play Everquest to join them in raids. **Nobles of Finnin Ro!** heh..sorry.. had to do it.

maudmac I'm terrible at FPS games, but I know my girl was quite addicted to a game called "The Getaway" for some time. (Although, now that I think of it, would this be classed as a FPS game?) Anyway, I'm not sure if it was the quality of the game or the fact that it's set in east end London and, therefore, gave her a chance to speak along with the game in a cockney accent ;) Apparently, if you finish the game you get to just drive around London. I think it looks quite good, but as I've said I'm no good at those type of games. The only way I can play Grand Theft Auto is if I have all the weapons cheats!

Hey, Molly. I haven't played that one, and don't know anything about it, but I'll definitely look into it.

I couldn't really get into the GTA games. Heh, they require too much restraint. Most FPS games require little or no restraint. But my gf was just playing Vice City recently and I love some of the radio shows you can listen to while you're driving around. Especially K Chat:

Quote:
Amy: The pregnant moon? What are you talking about? Gesemanee?

Gethsemanee: Gethsemanee.

Amy: Sorry, whatever, do you even have a last name?

Gethsemanee: My compost coven named me Gethsemanee Starhawk Moonmaker. Trust me Amy. I'm quite accustomed to people persecuting us. It's been going on for thousands of years. Native Americans, they studied crystals, the ancient Chinese, Belgians, Superman! They all studied crystals. So why do you view it as so weird. Grab your crystal, hold it tight and close your eyes. You will be transported back 35 thousand years when the temperature of the earth began to drop. The tundra was teeming with animal life and small groups of hunters followed the free running reindeer and there, under the magnolia tree a woman breast-feeding a baby elk. Do you see it? It's nature.

:rofl I found the radio shows and commercials most entertaining.

Holly apparently "The getaway" is not strictly a FPS, but is as good as. That's according to Emma, anyway. :)

Oh yeah, I love that you can change the radio stations in GTA. Some of the eighties songs give me terrible flashbacks though! I generally change to either the rasta or classical ones for some reason. My brother always has the heavy rock station on.

Am currently playing Hitman2 and Bloodrayne.

I especially love Bloodrayne. Lots of blood and a very cool Vamp Willow-esque lead character.

Also discovered God mode and gratuitous dismemberment mode :devil - the combination can make for a very entertaining and bloodthirsty time, though I imagine it would get boring to play it that way all the time...

Re: games

Postby The Smee » Mon Apr 05, 2004 4:15 pm

Bloodrayne rocks. It's so much fun in that awful B-movie camp horror way. I always find it funny when I think about how the original pitch must have been like:

"What's cool in video games?"

"Let's see...Guns, Vampires, Leather, Nazis, Breasts and Zombies. Yeah, we can probably make a game out of that..."

maudmac! I hear your pain on Half Life 2 and Doom 3! I've been following both for ages, and there's nothing else I want to play more. Also, Call of Duty has to be one of the best games I've ever played - definately the most exciting. It trumps most FPS in terms of everything from AI (your teammates are brilliant!) to story and dialogue (some of the Russian missions were emotionally disturbing for me...you know the ones.)

Also, the No One Lives Forever series is BRILLIANT. Love it. The humour, the characters, the voices, the situations...have you reached India yet in NOLF 2? There's a bit in there which is...rather good. It's a chase scene. I won't spoil it, but it really is rather funny.

I just think the two NOLF games have been more innovative than most modern FPS by a long way. Even the places that you visit alone: The spacestation, sunken ship, the sky diving section and the trailer park stand out in my mind as brilliant examples.

As for classic adventure, you really can't go wrong with Lucasarts. It seems as though each game they made is the best of the genre, with titles like Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, the Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, etc. The list goes on. My only gripe with them is that they cancelled both the Full Throttle sequel AND the Sam and Max sequel. I'm probably never going to forgive them for that...but rumour is that there's a 5th Monkey Island game on it's way, so we shall see.

Oooh, Smee, thanks! That really makes me want to finish NOLF2 now. I hadn't gotten that far into it, but you've renewed my interest. I suppose I can handle some tiptoeing for a while.

I agree completely about Call of Duty. It's easily in my Top Five FPS games. And it's the only one, I think, that's made me cry. A phenomenal game.

I'm currently using the Xbox for my gaming, and I got to say that I love it. Halo is probably my number one right now, but Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomarrow is very good as well. I'm looking forward to Halo 2 to be probably the best video game ever, if not im going to be very dissapointed, but buy it none the less.

For the PC im into the Blizzard games, waiting for Starcraft Ghost to come out as well as the World of Warcraft which should be awesome as I have never seen a on-line RPG before, but those are a little ways a way so the wait continues.

City of Heroes came out yesterday, and so far I'm having a blast. It's a mmorpg where you play a superhero and you go around fighting bad guys. The character creator is insane, and you can make just about anyone in it. For example:

Funny thing is, I was on one of my main characters this morning and I saw a cat-woman called 'Miss Kitty Fantastico' run past me.

In response to Kieli's question I must say Sierra Games rock!

Heros Quest and the Gabriel Knight series were my favourites. I was really impressed with how they moved Gabriel Knight to 3D, Gabriel Knight 3 was seriously cool.

dulcinea, I thought Space Quest 5 was the best. Commanding my own personal garbage ship was loads of fun.

You still get the odd new adventure game coming out (like the above mentioned Gabriel Knight 3) but sadly not many. If you don't mind violence in your adventure games then you should try Fallout 2, it's an excellent game.

Yay!

I am no longer a closet gamer!

I started on the Apple II playing Lemonade Stand and the Original Adventure.

Pc games to follow were the much loved King's Quest series, Police Quest series, Space Quest series, Kyrandia.....

Moved onto Sega Master System. Phantasy Star, Wonderboy

Then came Sega Genesis with more Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Sonic....Sega CD kinda sucked.....

Picked up a N64 at a pawn shop and got hookes on Zelda and Harvest Moon

Now I am onto GBA, GC and Xbox. Mainly hooked on the RPG type but trying to break out of my shell. It took me forever to get used to 1st person! I LOVE Morrowind, addicted to Baldur's Gate, Syberia, oh the list, the list!

But Morrowind rocks! I love stealing! I never thought I would say that, but it's true. Such a rush stealing from right from under someone's nose! :p I think I need help......

So, about this Bloodrayne 2.

There was a stall at E3 about it, and they had a new game trailer up. It's possible to download here: www.gametrailers.com/vault-b2.html

Scroll down to it. E3 2K4 Trailer, 16 meg. The other Bloodrayne 2 trailer is oh-so-shiny FMV footage.

Anyhow, the whole thing made me giggle in glee. It's safe to say the game has got a helluva lot cooler. New attacks, badass enemies and Rayne looking rather spiffy indeed all add up, y'know. There also are new finishing moves: for instance, jumping up in the air, doing a spinny thing and cleaving the bloke in half so we can see his spinal column and internal organs as the two halves fall apart has got to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a game. Violent, too. Yum.

Oh, and the new Half Life 2 game footage from E3 is enough to make any sane person masterbate furiously. I think Valve have got a winner in their hands...

Winter-een-mas is a holiday of sorts. More specifically, it is a celebration of video games and the people that play them. Video games allow us to do things, go places, see stuff, that we couldn't do in real life. They can be an escape from reality, a release after a long day, a fun activity with friends, or just an enjoyable way to pass time. They give us a lot of entertainment. So why shouldn't they be celebrated?

If anyone wants to see the start of Winter-een-mas go here

So my favorite things about video games is that you can do anything you want in them, be anyone you want, which in my opinion is mad kewl. I love to play any kinda RPG game though I'm not opposed to flat out action games.
