Everything by Katherine V Forrest.

I just finished the last of the Detective Kate Delafield series and I'm feeling quite bereft.

I read a lot of crime fiction, but I often forget the book as soon as I'm done. Forrest is a different class. Her character development is excellent. The books contain a brilliant depiction of Kate as she grows older and becomes more self-aware, reflecting the changes in society over a twenty year period.

Thanks so much for the recommendation Ariel.

Clare,

My pleasure, I read "An Emergence of Green" ages ago, still own it in fact and I also read "Daughters of a Coral Dawn" a bit of lesbian sci-fi. So glad you enjoyed them!

Studying for my show, re-reading Nicholas Nickleby and yes, read about the Crummles - they are the best part of the book!

Just been reading a big chunk of 12 days of christmas and although in places its sweet and stuff I do find my mind wondering off at times, plus I feel that authough christmas dinner if of course about food I feel the writers descriptions of all the food tedious because its literally like alllllll the time, I just keep on thinking my goodness. I feel the book is not holding me as others do but I am determined to finish it as I can not stand having unread books in my flat.

Re-reading "The Fourth Deadly Sin" about an New York ex chief of detectives going after a murderer. There's a series and this is one of my two favorites, the other being "The Second Deadly Sin."

Nothing deep, but definitely entertaining!

"Mockingjay"....the third book in the Hunger Games series!!!!!!

The number of exclamation points should indicate my level of excitement. I started reading it out at a restaurant by myself yesterday. Nothing like crying in public (or laughing hysterically, sporadically) to make people question your sanity.

Landing on Clare's recommendation.

Spoiler:
Clare - uh... I think this is the first book anyone has recommended to me in which the protagonist's mother dies of a brain tumor. Anyway, deep breath on that and I'm appreciating the book anyway/in spite/or even because of...

Just finished "Affinity" (which, like many books I've read recently, was a recommendation of Clare's).

Wow.

Just re-read, "Devil in a Blue Dress" by Walter Mosley. Incredible. Takes you right into a totally different world - vivid, original writing! Total recommend!

Northanger Abbey. Wouldn't swear to it, but I think it's the last Jane Austen book I haven't read before. It's good, but some of the characters are so infuriating! Granted they're meant to be, but it still makes me grrr.

Deb: Sadly, they don't have it streaming, and we don't have a disc subscription. However, our library has a copy of the DVD, so I'll be snagging that. Anyone know if the Tipping the Velvet one is any good?

Oh . . . and now I'm reading Desert of the Heart by Jane Rule. Another title brought to me by Clare's recommendation.

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (hilarious so far!), The Lady in the Tower, I can't remember who it's by (I've been reading it at a book store) but it's about Anne Boleyn and surprisingly interesting since I normally don't like history, Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography, Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, and (still) Northanger Abbey.

Just got the book "Ash" today by Melina Lo, I couldn't put it down it was everything I was expecting and more. It's so beautifully written and full of dark fairy tales that intertwine with Ash's life. I'm forcing myself to put it down and I'm already half way through it, I really want this to last :)

That has been one of my favourite books for years! I think I've read it 5 or 6 times.

I recently finished Murder on the Orient Express, which I LOVED, so I decided to start another Agatha Christie novel, The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd. I was enjoying it, but sadly left it at my mum's and won't be able to get it back for awhile, so tonight I started my third attempt at The Brothers Karamazov. I always enjoy it, yet never seem to get very far... As best I remember, the names exhaust me after a while and I give up. Must every character be addressed by first name, nickname, first name/middle name combo, and first name/last name combo interchangably? It gets quite confusing, especially for those of us that are unfamiliar with Russian names.

I just finished "Shadows of Aggar" By Chris Anne Wolfe..... I'm still in shock that it's over, it was so amazing, the politics and terms of the world of Aggar were a little confusing, but Elana and Di'nay's relationship made me read on. I think it was one of the best books I have ever read before, it was like Star Wars + Lord of the Rings+ Amazons + Willow and Tara + thrilling plot twists. I literally never get this excited or frustrated when I read books, like when there's tension in other books I usually always see through it and shrug it off thinking "Oh well she's the main character she can't possibly die or this will work out and all will be good again!". It was NOT like that at all for this book! I couldn't put this book down, I was reading it in gym class and I started yelling at my team mates that I couldn't play because I needed to find out what happened to Elana when Maltar's gaurds captured her. I got so scared for her and had to put the book down to steady myself. When I was reading the ending I was literally shaking in anticipation and fear. This book was such a beautiful experience for me, the characters became a part of me and made me truly feel for them. I'm still waiting for the shock of it being over to lift.

Ha, I only started following her myself in the past few weeks.

I love that book. It was the first one of hers I read and I thought I was so mature because I was 12 and it had 'dirty' language. Watermelon and Angels are great as well, and Anybody Out There, those are the other 'Walsh Sisters' books. She's coming out with the next one this year and I'm really excited!
