I can think of about 23 things that would make you more ready for adult life than planning a wedding - choosing a college, interviewing for a job, filling out a loan application, finding an apartment, making sure you know how to do laundry without turning it all pink, using birth control effectively... Also, having a school activity devoted to dreaming of and planning something that some people can't even legally do in this country is idiotic. Ok, sorry to get worked up there.Homework. They're "getting us ready for adult life" by having us plan a wedding in detail, and also putting together a resume.
Teachers, if I'm just putting together a resume, I have no business planning a wedding.
