I hate dating. I keep overthinking my interactions with this girl. She was extra interested in things I had to say. But....she was most likely straight. (I don't hit on straight girls) I won't lie, she was really attractive, hence my trepidation (I have a hard time concentrating when it comes to attractive women). She asked me personal questions. I answered. Dear lord she was attractive AND smart. She got my number. Do I call her? Do I not? My random moment? Polling. I polled my friends and acquaintances tonight. My straight friends (men and women) say I should call her (this also terrifies me as I HATE phones...I am much better in person). Gah. I hate dating.

Firstly, yes. Rocks. Completely. And her interpersonal skills and ability to appreciate deep, emotionally complex conversations? Just. Like. My. Girl.

But I digress. My initial reason for posting:

While at the coffeeshop yesterday, I saw a guy who used to volunteer at my old farm. He is an original kinda fella. Very nice, very creative, totally unique. I hadn't seem him in 2 years and his first words to me were: " Hi. Your shoes are untied. I made an even bigger board game. It's 26.5 feet across on each side, but there isn't any board. Just the pieces this time.... "

There was a little bit more, but I've forgotten the details....

I think I managed to nod and make affirmative noises at appropriate times. It was, in fact, good to see him. Must be one helluva game.

Yesterday, I was watching Buffy, and suddenly my eight year old brother sneaks up behind me and says "eewwww, not that gross tara again."

me: wtf is wrong with you?!?!?

he: whaaat? She's ugly and has weird clothes.

I agree on the strange clothes part but still, that dumb little weasel doesn't like Tara D: Anyway, I was like.. "Get. The. Hell. Outta. My. House!!"

Nah, just kidding. It's not my house.. But still, why would anyone hate the very, very, very, very hot Tara? ..

I turned up the a/c to try and conserve some energy. It's warm but not crazy but makes me think of those poor people who don't even have A/c.

It's after 2:30, and I can't sleep. Normally no big deal: plenty to do in the living room.

But we have friends who came to visit staying with us asleep in the living room. Adam is asleep in the bedroom.

I want to sleep, since we're going sightseeing tomorrow.

Instead, I'm sitting here in the kitchen on my phone.

My friends and I invented a mixed drink tonight (it may well have already existed, but it certainly wasn't on any of *our* radars) and named it after a character from The Iliad. I think that qualifies as pretty damn random, though for my friend E it's kind of expected.

Last night my best friend went out to get something out of her car and noticed the neighbor's car door was slightly open an the interior light was on. She walked over to close the door and found the woman dead. It looks like natural causes, but no real details yet. Ridiculously random.

My girlfriend's mother going through her son's stuff to pack them "more efficiently" (her kind of efficiently).:

"What is that DVD? Oh my is that porn?"

Me, "Let me look? Yup yup, that definitely is a porn movie."

Her, somehow believing it can't be her son's, "is that yours?"

"What? No way, d'you see those screen caps? That is definitely creepy straight male porn with women having more silicone in them than brain matters, not our kind of porn."

"Ah, are you sure? Maybe it is Sam's, then." (Sam is her son's best friend... Of course it can't be her son's, noooo he is so innocent, lol)

Today was my daughter's first day of Junior High, big day right? Seven classes, new teachers, new friends, etc. Here is the conversation when I picked her up after school...


ME: Hey Kiddo! So, how was the first day?
J: It was AWESOME!
ME: That's great! What made it so awesome?
J: Well, the announcement lady kept coming on and saying, "All teachers please report to your duty stations," it was so funny.
ME: Uh, what's so awesome about that?
J: Because she came on at the beginning of every class. Duty stations. She said duty all day duty, duty, duty, duty...hahahahaha!!!

And that pretty much sums it up!

On Thursday I was porchin' it with the two Js and the rest of the boys, and the younger J threw his feet in my lap. It took all of 30 seconds to convince him to let me paint his toe nails. Friday morning, the twins let Nen do theirs. Then, on Sunday morning, we found Ed passed out in the diving board from too much of a good time, so we painted his nails pink. I can now officially say I've painted someone's nails from a canoe!

Today rocks! I found out that even though the US company, that stopped manufactoring my contact lenses, I will get even better and also cheaper ones from Germany now. No more waiting for months for them to ship and stuff. My eye-sight improved so much, that I may actually have a chance to get a driving licence and I got the Evanescence ticket for my birthday in the mail today. Yes, today definitely rocks!!!

So, I'm a day late in posting this, but I thought I'd share none the less. Yesterday, just by chance, someone asked me, "Do you ever think, 'what was I doing at this exact moment' a year or ten years ago?" I told him that as a matter of fact, I remember EXACTLY what I was doing 19 years ago today. I was trying to survive the worst hurricane in Florida history.

Hurricane Andrew was a category 5 monster that stream rolled through south Florida with winds over 200mph. See that pic below? My wife and I were sitting right in the middle of that eye huddled in the bathroom of a second story condo with 6 cats while the walls literally came down around us.

So, my answer to his question...I was digging through mud and sea weed trying to find clothes in what was left of my closet.

Random Moments from 8/24/92:
-Crab traps and buoys in our living room
-Someone else's patio furniture on what was left of our balcony
-A 25' RV hanging by one wheel from high tension power lines
-A tug boat in a friends back yard
-Random mobs of people looting...an XXX video store
-Me opening the door to my wife's car and pulling out live cat fish
-Us driving across the country in a Geo Metro with a smashed windshield and NO windows
-At the very moment that satellite picture was taken, we came out of the bathroom to find complete destruction. We were listening to Bryan Norcross on the radio and he said, "the worst is yet to come." At that very moment, I remember saying, 'We're going to die.'

My son has been up since 1:00 am. It's now 6:15. I got up at 5:00 to go for my walk. While getting dressed he asked me over and over when Rachel will get up (between 7:00 and 7:15). And he asked me over and over what he can do. I walked and got home and he is now asking me what he can do over and over and over. I'm assuming that his little brain is just exhausted from not sleeping and being alone while we slept all night.

This week my daughter started Junior High; the school is a little farther than the middle school and my wife has been picking her up, along with a few friends because it's still too hot for them to walk. Anyway, they are riding home and the kids are talking...

J: I forgot my lunch again today and had to buy. The line was soooo long that I was almost late to 5th period.
E: Oh, I hate it when that happens! I just masturbate really fast so I'm not late.
J: Uh, what?
E: I said, I masturbated at lunch today so I could get to class on time.
*By this time, my wife's eyes were wide as saucers and she was speechless*
J: Um, you do know what that means, right?
E: YES! It means chewing. I try to chew fast so I'm not late.
J: Nooooo, not exactly. In fact, not at all!

I'm really not sure how my wife held it together and didn't drive off the road, because when they relayed the story to me...I almost peed in my pants. I'm just glad that it was my kid that did the explaining and not the other way around.

I bloody hurt myself, again! I was dusting the guitar and its amp when this last one felt on my bare foot. (I was tilting it to dust behind). The corner hit a bone on my foot, near the big toe. I am so tired of bruising my bones here and there all the time. What is wrong with me? Why am I so accident prone this past year or so? Not a day go by without me bumping into something.

OT: I love all the technology I have in my apartment, but lately it seems like it doesn't love me back anymore... The graphics card in my laptop broke and replacing it would cost more, than buying a new computer (warranty ran out a couple months ago). My beloved tv apparently has some broken LCDs and even though my best friend offered me his (way better) tv, it's still upsetting. And now my DVD recorder is playing up. What's next?
