We're doing a major revamp of our upstairs area and I never realized exactly how many books we actually have until they had to be moved. We have accumulated a lot of fucking books and we haven't even gotten to J's old picture books that are trapped in her closet.

(I sling beer one night a week at a local bar)

Last week I chatted with a customer about wines. Or rather, he was clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, so I listened and let him tell me all about wines, wine tasting, its characteristics, and all that. Just kept asking questions to keep him talking. He was back again this week. Halfway through the night he gave me a heavy box. He said, in reference to the conversation we'd had last week about it being fun to have a wine tasting party, that here was my chance. He'd gathered 4 different wines that use the same grape, but since they're grown in different countries, in different climates, in different soil conditions....you can taste all that in the wine. So. Here is this man, whose name I didn't even remember, giving me a ton of wine. His only request was that I report back to him at some point about whether or not I was able to taste the characteristics of the wines. That's it. Anyone want to come over for a wine-tasting party??? :bigwave

Moral of the story: being a good listener not only makes the other person feel good, it apparently can also pay off in varied and unexpected ways. :grin

I just had the most crazy thought: I should run a marathon. Before I turn 45. Ok. While I am 45. That gives me 21 months.

At work tonight (serving at a bar) a girl hit on me. Okay. That was fine. Until when everyone was paying up, she came up and just laid one on me. Just decided she needed to kiss me. In front of everyone. At work. NOT COOL. Ugh. And apparently her friends weren't thrilled. Dear over-friendly drama girl: no thanks.hat

I mean....who does that?!?!?

*sighs* Ditto.

RM: I was at a party on Christmas Eve and watching A Christmas Story with a friend about 16yrs younger than me. It came to the part where they blew a fuse, because there was about a dozen things plugged into one socket, and I laughed out loud. It reminded me of my grandparents house, especially the deal with the fuse box...my grandfather was constantly blowing them, lol.

B: "I don't understand, why did he have all that shit in one socket?"

ME: "Because they didn't used to wire houses like they do today. There was no TV, computers, etc. I remember there being four outlets in my grandparents living room, where as I have at least 14 (seriously, I counted)."

B: "Oh," She said looking confused, "What's a fuse box?"

We did not do laundry the entire week we were gone (my preference anyway) plus the dogs shed a ton of hair on the drives so I need to do their blanket and our hoodies in addition to about 6 loads of clothing. Of course we had very little unworn/clean laundry to put away (I literally had 1 pair running shorts, 1 running top, 1 pair running socks, and 1 handkerchief left).

I keep putting on shirts and realizing the buttons are broken. I know it's from the dry cleaners (the heat cracks the buttons) but it's irritating to be in the process of dressing and need to switch shirts.

My daughter & I going to a party on Christmas Eve...

ME: Looks like we're gonna to be a little late.
J: Ugh Mom! I HATE showing up late to parties.
ME: It's pouring down rain honey, besides we're only about 15 min. behind. What's the big deal?
J: I just hate it when everyone else is there and you walk in and everyone stares at you. I'd MUCH rather be the one doing the staring.

Last Christmas, I saw that my future in-laws have a set of canisters for flour, sugar, tea, and coffee that are identical to the ones Nana has. I told Judy (my future MiL), who is a big garage saler and Goodwill goer, that if she saw another set, or pieces of it, that I am looking for them. I promptly forgot about it.

This year when I got home, Adam had a present from me from his parents. It was a complete set of the tins.

I saw them and cried: they made my apartment feel like home.

Yesterday my daughter decided to cook us brunch. She's a pretty good cook when she,

A) Follows recipes
B) Doesn't over salt
C) Doesn't add something sweet
D) All of the above

Yesterday she didn't follow D. She decided to make us egg salad breakfast sandwiches which consisted of: 2 hard boiled eggs, bacon, cheese, mayonnaise, and grape jelly all mixed together on toasted bread sprinkled with sugar.

Did I eat it, yes. Was it difficult, yes, but I ate it because I didn't want to hurt her feelings, especially since she made a horrible homemade venison soup the night before. I was just REALLY happy that she didn't decide to throw venison into that sandwich...phew, dodged a bullet there!

My apprenticeship may be over on Monday. I will have these oral exams and since I already passed my written ones in November, there is a chance that I will pass overall and be done with a job I hated from the beginning. I will probably be unemployed for a little while, but God, how I wish to be rid of that workplace. I won't miss it, won't look back and definitely never go back there ever again... Let's just hope nothing goes wrong.

I didn't realize exactly how many time I've actually seen Once More With Feeling until I saw it AGAIN last night. Not only do I know the songs by heart, but I found myself able to recite nearly 75% of the lines. NERD ALERT!

1st, In looking through this thread, I seem to have a lot of random moments.

2nd, Our cat is fucking weird. He came in our bedroom all frisky, found a wadded up piece of paper under the love seat, knocked it around for a few minutes, chewed on it, mewed loudly, and then jumped into the laundry basket and attacked my wife's socks. He then jumped out of said laundry basket and seriously freaked when it flipped on to his ass. I haven't seen him since.

Adam (after I stand and head towards the bedroom): Are you off to talk to Clare again?
Me: Um, no. It's . . . it's 4:00 a.m. there. She's eight hours ahead.
Adam: Whatever. England is a made up place. I don't observe time zones in MadeUpia.

Deb, I'm not even a parent yet and I know (at least a little) where you're coming from. It hit me the other day that my first round of babies, the very first class that I was a real teacher for, are turning 4. The two oldest ones just had their birthdays, and the next will on the 25th. I can't believe it; there were not even a year old when I met them, S couldn't even crawl yet! I haven't seen them in about 9 months, but even so it throws me to think of how big they are... And of course E, who was bonded to me more than any other teacher in the school, who I had from 5 1/2 weeks old, who I saw take his first bite of food and hold his bottle for the first time, turned 3 a month ago. It's crazy!
