You could check out the ladies from the film "Bound", Corky and Violet, who were wonderfully written and got to ride off into the sunset together! A novel ending from two male writers who have my gratitude (though I still don't understand "The Matrix"!) "Fried Green Tomatoes" has two very strong female characters that are undoubtedly gay but it was never mentioned.

If you have access to the ITV series "Bad Girls", there was a three season story line between a prison warden/manager and an inmate that was done incredibly well (and another happy ending! See, some people can write them!)

As to my thoughts on the subject? We simply don't have any lesbian role models we can look to. The one couple we did have was brutally taken from us. There is no one young lesbians can look to and relate to. In saying that, there is no one for young gay males to look to either. We are constantly bombarded by straight heroes and role models, but if anyone comes out (no pun intended) for the gay quarter we get the death wish. The writers at Mutant Enemy will never ever understand what damage they did by killing Tara. It was so much more than just a lesbian thing, but she was written as a lesbian character and killing her took something away from those who finally had found someone to relate to.

Good luck with your writing!

There's the two teenage girls Agnes and Elin from the Swedish movie Fucking Åmål (Show me love).

The movie is very realistic, and has a happy ending for the two girls.

I loved the movie Everythings Relative, i guess because i related so well to the "older lesbians" in the movie..

I went thru alot of what they talked about in the movie, their early years of coming out, the struggles back in the day just trying to be yourself..

I loved the wonderful bond they had with each other in the movie even if there was a lot of "water under the bridge" :wink amongst the group..

I think there is at least one character in the movie that everyone can relate to.....Strong lesbian role models..

Great flick :peace

Xita brings up a good question, so to cover all the bases, ill say "real person" would be Ellen for having the courage to come out on national tv...She took a huge chance, suffered for it, but thankfully has not quite given up :clap

I just discovered this cool little symbol :dance so i had to use it :laugh

If you're going for "real life" role models, may I suggest Xita, herself. I'm not just trying to be a suck-up, so hear me out please. I would guess that the Kitten has become an important, dare I say vital, coming out "tool" for young women who are questioning, out to themselves, out to their friends, out to the universe.

Xita, with the help of the other mods and the Kitten community has created an environment where young lesbians can find a supportive virtual environment, a wealth of information, and, most importantly, debate (not everyone has to think alike).

From the lesbian cliche FAQ to the discussions on coming out isses to the discussions on lesbian representations in television, movies, literature, the Kitten is a terrific place for young lesbians to connect to their heritage...

You could check out the singer Ani Difranco, and Tegan and Sara, also the movie Lost and Delirous, although it end badly it still is basically the story of the love between two young girls (Piper Perabo and I'm not sure but I believe the other actresses name is Jessica Pare or something like that..)

Tammy Baldwin, the first openly lesbian person to be elected to Congress is a good role model. Representative Baldwin has always stood firm and proud by her convictions even when her opponents tried to use her sexuality against her in the elections, she never lowered herself to their level.
