Postby angelofinsanity » Fri Aug 29, 2003 6:50 pm

Right, appearantly I heard that in East Asia (Taiwan,Korea, Jap, China-ish), the new fad for female BEST FRIENDS are to give each other ""Wedding"" rings ( <----note the use of "" ) and feed each other and act all couplely. can someone confirm that for me?

Mods, plz move this post if needed be. cheers.

Stacy...

from the mass volume of China/Taiwan teens who come to malaysia to study... it is indeed not surprising that they do that. I know three girls from mainland China. They hold hands. kiss, hug, give each other gifts that usually one would present to their lovers. So... kinda makes describing them difficult. Are they GAY? apparently not because they freak out when they find out someone is gay - notably- me :rofl

These are interesting I think cultural phenomenons. I know certainly in latin america it used to be ok for girls to walk around holding hands, teenagers whoever. It was very common and never seen as gay, though I am not sure how it is now.

Also in Japan there is the whole Takarazuka thing. I don't know if that is still going on but in the 90s all-female theater was very popular among young girls. The women who played the guy roles in the shows would be worshipped by these young girls and held up as romantic ideals. Yet none of it was considered gay. I think it's just fascinating!

yes, well, chicks holding hands and spontanously hugging each other is seen as a cultural normality everywhere...i suppose.........maybe i'll be able to cash in this new fad or at the very least exploit this to my advantage...heh heh *goes off and schemes*.

I didnt' know about that Japanese fad in the 90's huh...interesting. Anybody else know some piece of history whereby straight ppl act gay and is not considered gay? fasinating specimens humans are.

Now that is something exploitable.

Choosing not to decide is still a choice.

This reminds me of a story I read by a gay (American) guy, and his (Egyptian, IIRC) lover. Talking one time (I think it might have been a post-coital pillowtalk moment), he asked his boyfreind about the situation for gays in Egypt, and he indignantly responded "We don't have gays in Egypt!" When the author then (carefully!) queried "What about you? What about us?" his boyfriend replied: "Oh, that's different: we love each other." :heart

GG The TV show title has it right: "There's naught as queer as folk." :rolleyes
