What's Your Sign, Baby? The Astrology Thread

Postby bronwyn » Thu May 08, 2003 6:27 am

An astrology thread. :)

I'm not a devoted believer in astrology ("I'm sorry I know that you are my one true love but we just cannot be together because you are a Gemini and I am an Aries...") but I do believe in it to a degree. I know the scientific reasons that astrology shouldn't work (the system was concieved of at a time when we thought the earth was the centre of of the universe) but whenever my friends and I talk about this we all agree that sometimes the accuracy of our star signs is a little uncanny.

Being born on May 17 means I'm a Taurus and I fit many Taurean characteristics - I'm stubborn, opinionated and I like the good things in life! I'm pretty flexible though, unlike many Taureans. Someone once told me that your moon sign and ascendant are just as important and will mutate your sun sign characteristics but I've never got far enough into astrology to find them out! In chinese astrology I was born in a dragon year, on a dragon day in a dragon hour, so I'm a whole lotta dragon. ;)

What do you think about astrology, kittens? Do you live by your horoscopes or think it's all a load of rubbish? Does anyone with a better memory for details than mine know if we ever found out Willow and Tara's birthdays and star signs? If not, anyone care to take a stab at what they are?

The stars shone at the hour of our meeting,

xxx,

Bronwyn

Hmm, horoscopes lead me to think of Mystic Meg and then on to daft Lottery predictions - "the winner will have dark hair and be human...." UK kittens will know what I'm talking about (hopefully, tho frankly sometimes even I don't know what the hell I'm talking about :grin ) But I digress, I'm not too sure if I believe in horoscopes, must be the cynic within me but from time to time I have noted that things predicted in horoscopes have come to pass, so I guess there must be some element of truth to them. Though if anyone can please settle the debate as to what star sign I am exactly I would be eternally grateful. Being typically awkward as I am, I was born on the cusp of Leo/Virgo on 23rd August - what the hell star sign am I someone please? I read one paper and I'm supposed to be a Leo, I read another and they say I am a Virgo :stink

Not that it matters, it's just bugged me ever since I was about 12 and I still don't have the answer :grin

As for W/T, 'Family' was Tara's birthday episode but I'm not too sure whether people have taken the date of her birthday as the day the episode was first aired or not?

Anyhoo, better get ready for work :rolleyes

Have a good day Kittens,

~Lou

Im a believer in astrology in the Jungian sense, I believe that astrology has a lot to offer if you take more then a superficial glance, certain tribal communities can heal physical illnesses through shamnistic ceremony and not a drop of medicine, the world is a strange place and not everything is explained anywhere near what the scientists would like. Besides Im a spot on Leo :) (wishes there was a lion smiley)

I love astrology. I take it with a grain of salt, but I love it anyway. I'm a Gemini, and I fit a lot of the (stereo)typical characteristics: chatterbox, love words, ideas, gadgets, etc. (The Internet is a natural love affair!) I also have a very strong moon in Virgo, which means that I'm also a nitpick and a fuss-budget. It's a weird combination sometimes. :grin

I have no clue what Willow's birthday is, but the way the girl talks, she's gotta have at least one of her planets in Gemini! :lol

I have it on reasonably good authority that Tara's birthday is October 16, which would seem to fit the air date of "Family" pretty well. I believe that would make her a Libra.

Seeing as my birthday is October 9th that would make me a libra. I love reading my horoscope just to see what it says, sometimes it is right on and other times it's way out there.

I was born in the year of the dog, and I'd say that the description of a person born then fits me exactly. I never really thought about my Chinese sign until I read about it and now this is something that intrests me :)

delurking for moment...

My b-day is May 17th as well. I'm a definite Taurus. I don't really believe in the horoscopes. But I do fit the description of a Taurus. And I was born in year of the Dog, and that fits me too.

Another Taurus

Postby WillowSpiritus » Thu May 08, 2003 3:07 pm

Born april 24 so another Taurus :) When i read about it i mostly agree with what they say about taurus me. I once read that when i bottle up my emotions that i get a sore troat. A thing that a taurus is likely to do. Its true that i easily get a sore troat so that had my attention. I was born in the year of a goat or sheep. Sometimes i read it and its a goat and sometimes its a sheep. I was hoping for something cool like a tiger or a dragon but no a sheep. Oh well

I've never really been into this sorta thing. Everytime I read something about my sign, it's so not me.....maybe I've been reading the wrong info. Anyway, now you have my curiosity going, I'll have to learn more. Oh, and I'm a libra.....if you know anything about my sign, I would love to hear it. :bigwave

Goodness, a lot of Taureans posting. I was born April 23rd, and my moon sign is Aries, and I surround myself with a lot of Aries (mom, brother, at least 2 friends from high school, an ex-girlfriend, new friends here ...), and I was supposed to be born the 17th which would have made me an Aries, and when my mom thought she was in labor and went their on the 21st, I resisted and didn't come until I was sure to be born a Taurus. :)

I'm most definitely not an Aries sun sign. Most definitely a Tauras. I like being a Taurus and being stubborn. :grin

I believe that planets and the moon can have an effect on people. If it can affect tides, why not people, too? That doesn't mean that my horoscope is always right or that I believe what it says though. We're all different, so the moon and the planets are going to affect us in different ways. Tuesday I was having a very crappy day and noticing that many people in the library where I work and also other people I ran in to that day were low energy and in poopy moods. Yes, it could be because it's finals time and people are stressed, and it was rainy out. But, there are two eclipses this month, and mercury is in retrograde, so couldn't some of that have affected us too?

Ambitious and disciplined

Patient and careful

Humorous and reserved

Thats me, i think!

I have no idea if this is just coicidence but i just seem to get along real well with Libras, my brother and my 2 best friends are.

The description of one pretty much fits me, but I do not believe in horoscopes. They are complete crap.

Postby mscheckmate » Thu May 08, 2003 11:44 pm

I'm not a big believer in astrology, but this is a fun thread regardless. Anyway, I was born on August 2, which makes me a Leo. When I first meet people, I usually come off as quiet and introverted. If I'm in a crowd of people or at a party, I sort of hang back, and I can be inarticulate to the point of appearing stupid. Once I get to know someone, I become a lot more talkative, but it probably takes me longer to become comfortable with new people than it does the average person.

On the other hand, there's my career. I get up in front of people and play the flute, and when I'm on stage the Leo comes out of the closet. And I'm friendly and extroverted when I teach music. (There's something about being in charge and telling someone what to do that gives me that nice, warm feeling:wink ) Maybe the Leo qualities tend to come out when I'm working, because I feel most competent when I'm being a musician. Or maybe it's just because I like what I'm doing, so I'm in a happy frame of mind to begin with.

It'll be the train, Walter, just the way you want it. Straight down the line.

I am a total un-believer in astrology. The scientist in me just cant accept that bunkum. Horoscopes for the week a'la Mystic Smeg...Na!

However, I do believe that when you are born does affect you to some degree. The sun, moon and earth all combine to create natural forces, which we see on a large scale as tides. I'm sure that these have some effect, along with other more subtle natural rhythms.

Me, I'm a typical Gemini... a mess of contradictions.

La - I think Taurus and Aries star signs must have some sort of mutual love affair because I also have tons of Aries people who are close to me. I'd hate to see us in a fight though! Talk about fireworks! :)

Is it possible in a community this size that I am the only Pisces? My birthday is March 8th and according to what I've read I am a true Pisces. I'm daydreamy and openhearted and all those words for wishy washy. I am a good listener though so I guess it balances out. I was born in the year of the Ox. Gotta say, I don't much care to be known as something quite so large but there ya go.

I’m a Cancer with my moon in Libra and Pisces rising which means I’m sort of the definition of a wuss. Even though my sun sign and ascendant are water signs, I have six other signs in air so I have more air traits than emotional water characteristics which makes me sort of an aberration.

Speaking of astrology, Mercury has been retrograde for the last two weeks and it’s really been a beastly retrograde. My cell phone went wacko and Verizon couldn’t figure out what happened, my computer at work went wonky and had to be replaced, People Soft went down for an entire day during month-ends at work, and my laptop computer had its hard drive crash. I’m blaming it all on retro Merc. I can’t wait till the 20th when it goes direct again and communication issues can get back to normal.

I'm a Scorpio, the sign of love, sex and mystery :boot

I have my moon in Capricorn and Libra or Virgo rising (everytime I look it up in a different Ephemeris it changes...)

Anyways, I think Tara would have been an earth sign because she was such a stable grounding force for the scoobies, and especially Willow. As for Ms Willow...hmmm....maybe a water sign cuz she's so emotional? hee hee....

Oh, and Xita, don't feel bad for being a pig sweetie...I'm a rat!

Wow, xita, I'm a Sagittarius and a pig, too. Boar-pig thing in the Chinese astrology. Yeah. So you're not alone in being a pig. I've never actually minded it, though. I mean, maybe pigs have great personalities, I've never really gotten to know the animal to know for sure, you know. :)

as far as chinese astrological sign goes, I'm a goat or a sheep, depending on where you look. I always thought it was cool that my brother was a dog. I thought goats were boring, though at one time my favorite food was lamb, and I thought that was funny.

I'm a taurus (May 17) and in the chinese zodiac I'm an earth horse or horse in the gate. It's fun to read up on all the signs for me. Also I heard a long while ago, the less a person believes in Astrology, the more spot on they are to the general characteristics of their perspective signs.

I'm a Virgo, which apparently means that I should be:

Modest and shy

Meticulous and reliable

Practical and diligent

Intelligent and analytical

Fussy and a worrier

Overcritical and harsh

Perfectionist and conservative

which isn't too far from the truth.

And having looked up the chinese sign, I'm a rat:

Essentially charming. Compassionate. Renowned for thrift and love of family, at times rather superficial

Xita, the boar's characteristics are:

Will do anything for anybody. Model of sincerity and honor. Occasionally fits of rage. Self-sacrificing and altruistic.

So do you get the fits of rage?!

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
