Boo!!! Halloween Thread

Postby maudmac » Fri Oct 03, 2003 4:16 pm

So what's everyone doing for Halloween? Parties? Haunted houses? Taking the kids trick-or-treating? Nothing? Fond Halloween memories, maybe?

Samhain plans?

I used to love Halloween soooo much. It was by far my favorite holiday. I always wanted to be something scary or at least something dead and/or bloody. I have many memories of running around in the dark, leaves crunching under my feet, freezing, full of urban legends about razor blades in apples and poison in the candy.

I don't see many kids out anymore, though. Seems, around here at least, that Halloween has become a more adult holiday. Lots and lots of parties for adults.

My only plans this year involve going to some local haunted house-type places, Sloss (which really is haunted) and ATROX.

Bring on the Halloweeny goodness!

We don't celebrate it here unfortunately, we do have kids going from door to door in area on nov 11 with lights and they sing really badly and then people give them candy. I make it a point to never be at home then. I think I would like Halloween much better.

Halloween isn't a big thing here in Australia, actually it's just another ordinary day (but tv stations use this opportunity to show the wonderful b-grade horror movies :bounce ). no trick or treaters, hardly any theme parties (but last year i did see a guy in toilet paper walk down the street- i have no idea whether it was for a party or what.) ah well

I plan on doing nothing for Halloween. Maybe answer the door once in a while to give out candy, eat some candy myself, and then turn out all the lights and cover the windows to hide from the trick-or-treaters.

I used to get a huge kick out of haunted houses. That one that is really haunted looks like so much fun. That would be cool to see, I think. :ghost

I'm thinking I might make these great scary birds cut outs for some windows. They're really creepy in an interesting way!

I'll likely buy some mini Kit Kat bars and see how many kids come to my door.

And then it'll likely be off to the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Ooooh, Holley, I remember seeing that Sloss place on Fox's Scariest Places. Looks creepy. We don't have a "real" haunted house to go to in the Detroit area (that I know of, anyway). We only have dozens of teen slasher warehouses and the little haunted forests for kids. They used to do an after hours tour of some of the buildings at Greenfield Village (at the Henry Ford Museum complex) each fall. Supposedly they would tell you which of the historic houses were haunted and tell of sightings the staff has had. But they aren't running it this year. Sigh. Maybe next year.

As for Halloween itself, we'll probably give out candy for a little while then go hide in the back bedroom and watch scary movies. For some reason I really like Halloween, though I rarely do anything. But I just love fall in general.

I do that too Kathy :lol

I never went door to door when I was a kid but I do remember that once we did go to the local hockey arena and they gave out candy to all the kids, as you can imagine, not the most exciting Halloween ever :rolleyes

There seems to be less and less trick-or-treaters every year here. I'm sure those urban legends have a big part in it, because I heard the razor blade in the apple thing a million times when I was younger and I still hear about it today :stink

We love Halloween around here. It is my favorite holiday!

Today we went out an decorated the yard. We hung little ghosts in all the trees, put out a big plastic jack-o-lantern, some headstones and a skeleton hanging from out house in a noose.

I still have some other stuff to put up and we have to get some pumpkins.

We always go trick or treating and last year my son wanted to go all night, we ended up finally coming home after 4 hours! He just thought it was so cool that you could walk up to someone's house and get free candy. He wanted to go and do it again every night after that.

Liam also calls all the yard decorations "boos", as in "look at all the boos they have!"

I love halloween so much. But unfortunitly now that I am at college I do not know what they have to do here. I'm sure some fraternity or soroity will have a party. I know that my insaen roommmate is already excited and talks about making costumes.

I don't know what to have as a costume. But I do have a miniskirt with fishnet stockings that I've worn around my house, but never outside.

Hey, halloween is never a big thing in UK, Im so jealous of all you US peeps! But when I was a kid I used to go to fancy dress parties, and some of my more impressive (or just plain weird) outfits were... a waiter, (with food and cans stuck on a tray and a moustache drawn on my face), teen wolf (remember that- michael j fox? i had furry hands and eveything!) and...chesney hawkes!! That was my presonal fave, I had one of those keyboard/guitar thingys.

HMMM Im thinking this outfit might need a reprise on my 21st this yr!

My roommates and I are having a party at our house. We just had a big party last Friday so we know there will be a big turnout. Since we live in a very residential/family neighborhood, we're expecting plenty of trick-or-treaters and so we may play scary music out of our windows to give a little scary atmosphere to our house. The party won't start until 9, so the kids should be gone by then, but I'm really looking forward to handing out candy. I haven't gotten to hand out candy in about 6 or 7 years!

As for my costume, I'm wearing my traditional Korean dress since it's pretty much the only time I can wear it in the states.

My favorite costume was the year I went as a pregnant nun. There were 3 other nuns at the party I went to (2 were guys dressed as nuns), but I was the only pregnant one :)

I'm a little bit disappointed about Halloween this year because my new apartment is set up go that neighborhood kids cannot get in the lock front door to the complex. In past years, I'd get a huge box of dry ice and a couple of hot plates from my lab. Dry ice+hot water+a couple of colored lights=a ton of red and blue mist covering the front porch. It's very simple to do, but the effects were fantastic. I could hear kids down the street at other houses yelling, "Whoa, look at that!" Every year that I did this, I've had at least one kid who was too scared to come up the steps for their candy. I had to deliver the treats on the sidewalk. I'm not big on scaring kids, but Halloween is the exception.

I usually start celebrating my birthday on Halloween night, as I was born at 2:10am. If I eat enough candy, I can stay awake until November 2, so I can stretch the party into two days. Fun, fun.

I think I may go as a bunny this year. That or an unfortunate victim of a bad plastic surgeon. I'm not sure yet.

I was went to a Halloween party as a Ghostbuster... I remember me and my mum and my brother sitting making that costume... Happy dayz.

I also remember once going to school dressed like Darth Vader with a black Flower Pot on my head... don't worry, it was a fancy dress thing.

I think in all my 17 years I've been to 1 Halloween party. I wanna go to a Halloween party this year... I wanna dress in a big Bear costume and give people BigGayBear hugz...

We've just gotten our contribution to Halloween today care of the Disney store.com. Our centre piece in this UK/USA home will be Stitch dressed as a vampire that when you press his ear his arms move and music plays and Stitch makes noises! Not very scarey but very entertaining!! Hope everyone has a great day whatever they do.

Cicca,

Go check him out on the Disneystore.com. They have a picture of him 'flapping'!! I'm sure when he starts talking his first words are "Creature feature" said in a purely Stitch voice!! He's currently hanging out in our living room just waiting for a week or so to shine!

Not a big fan of the whole people jumping out at me just to make me scream but, my friends are and they drag me out with them. They say it is the only way to get a good laugh at those places, I know I need new friends.

And did I see Sloss Fright Furnace mentioned here? That place scares me every year and I have gone for the past 4 or 5 years. That is a very scary place.

Yeah, Gina? Have you been this year yet? I was planning on going next week, but I've been waffling about whether it was worth it. I'm definitely going to ATROX, but I wasn't sure if Sloss would be scary enough. I was thinking any genuine creepiness, since it really is haunted, might be negated by the masses of people. (A meadow full of flowers and butterflies is scarier than the Jaycees one, so that's not on my Halloween To Do List. Lame, lame, lame. :spin ) You been to ATROX? I've heard only horrifying (in a good way!) things about it.

And I see no sign of vampire Stitch at the disney store. :sob

Damn. Haunted house thingies are soooooo much fun. :lol

The one I just went to has this 3D maze. Now, I thought that would be cool. And it was, but I did not know there were clowns in there. :shock Like, demented insane zombie clowns. Toothy, grinny, come-here-little-girl clowns. :cry All blending into the background until they moved...

Three best parts: 1) one friend choking the life out of me from behind and screaming in my ear the whole way, 2) another friend toward the front howling with laughter the whole time at the screaming friend, and 3) the gauntlet of terrible chainsaw people we had to run to get from one part to another.

Excellent! We're going to another one next week. But I'm ready to go right now.

And that will be the extent of my Halloweeny goodness.
