And Happy New Year, too! Got some resolutions you want to divulge so all of Kittendom can stare at you during 2005 waiting for you to follow through on them? Come on, we want to know!
So, what's everyone doing for the holidays this year? What are you getting? What are you giving? What are you eating?
Got any weird holiday rituals that you do that make other people scratch their heads?
Do you love the holidays and start getting itchy to put up a tree the day after Halloween? Do you despise the holidays and even this thread is making you clench your jaws in frustration, despair, or rage?
Want to share some fond old holiday memories? Best one ever? Worst? Best and worst presents? Favorite songs?
Do you celebrate Hanukkah, Yule/Solstice, Kwanzaa or nothing at all and do you feel invisible with all the Christmas stuff going on in late December? Or do you do Christmas anyway, but on a purely secular level? Do you wonder where the Ramadan thread was? (I didn't see one, either.)
Is Christmas too commercial? Does it need more Jesus, less Santa?
Have I asked about a billion too many questions and made your eyes glaze over?
Sorry.
I guess I should answer a few.
I'm pretty bah-humbug about the holidays. I don't decorate, don't wrap presents, don't fa-la-la-la-la. It's kind of sad. I wish I did. So I generally find the holidays somewhat depressing, because it's supposed to be sooooo festive and wonderful and heartwarming. Hallmarky. I do think the decorations, especially the lights, are pretty enough, sure, but sometimes they just poke at my heart and remind me how unfestive I personally feel about it all. And I'm not religious, so none of the religious aspects of any of these holidays appeals to me.
Presents: I'm getting some good presents, for sure. The Carnivàle DVDs, some books and CDs and stuff. (I will wait patiently for Gloria Trevi's CD to arrive and Rock. My. World.)
Favorite holiday memories: One that comes to mind is the time the cat ate all the tinsel off the bottom half of the tree. It was a merry Christmas in the litter box that year.
About New Year's: I wouldn't make any real resolutions, because I figure I wouldn't keep them and then I'd just be disappointed in myself and I don't need the stress of that, nope. It is a good time, though, I think, to reflect on the previous year and do some deep thinking about what worked and what didn't and perhaps consider some changes. I'll do that for sure. But I'm always doing that.
I wish everyone the best, peace and good will and all that.
