Piercings: Which side signifies that you are homosexual?

Postby twink » Sun Mar 05, 2006 3:00 pm

Typically I stick to lurking around the kitten, but I've heard several theories on piercings equaling gayness recently, so I thought i'd ask you all. Can any of you kittens clear this up for me? I've always heard that wearing an earring (or the extra one) in your right ear = homosexual. I'd like to think I'm sending out the right signals to all the "family" members out there, but I don't want to get caught in some serious faux pax. I'd sure appreciate any assistance to unconfuse this lesbian. :pride

hey twink... 1985 called, it wants its stereotype back. i don't think ear piercing ever had any relevance on the identification of lesbians, and it's totally pointless with the male 'mos these days given the prevalence of both ear piercing in the heterosexual world.

I believe that you are correct in your thinking that a right peircing signifies gayness. In my little backwater of the universe, it is still quite a common signifier, actually, but Kisstheviolets is right in that it doesn't really give a definitive clue any more.

Wearing a "Dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians" T shirt would give a much clearer signal....

OK, Candleshoe and kisstheviolets really need to form a T-Shirt company. I'd so buy that shirt CS.
Their ideas are much better than mine, which have been limited lately to planning "OCMF" shirts for myself and a few of my friends who are all members of the "One Celibate Mother F*****" club.

And on the "which side makes you a big ol' homo" front: how about watches? I have this dim memory from grade school regarding this. Anyone?

It was just a harmless question

Different pericings have different meanings I suppose, some cultural and some not. I've head about the peircing on the whichever ear thing a few time's. In fact a while back people made a big deal about Richard Gere because he had one of his ear's periced, but he's not gay. It really shouldn't be an issue. Instead of giving family member's "signs" it might be easier to just tell them you are gay instead of keeping them guessing.

The problem with Richard Gere is that he is old and his big shiny earring looks sleazy!
About the side thing: I haven't heard about it for a lesbian before but I believe for men it is the right side, or maybe the left!

Thanks for weighing in on this topic everyone.
I have read/heard various things ranging from piercings to scarves in the back pockets, to keychains as well. So far what I have found is that the left side is to signify dominance and the right side to signify submissiveness in the relationship, but I haven't found anything that would be specifically equivalent to homosexuality. (aka if a gay guy had a left earring = top, if it was on his right side = bottom. This, I have heard, can also be applied to bdsm) I was just curious what the kittens out there had heard of. b/t/w boschi I have seen the "dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians" shirt. One place it can be found is at the following website if you are truely interested (I've never bought from them so I don't know anything about the company): http://www.alwaysproud.com/pridets.htm
I think my "save a horse ride a cowgirl" shirt will do nicely for now :-D

I wear a signet ring on my right little finger - does that count? I swear I heard that was some sort of signal....

lol. Candleshoe - when I was in college it seemed that pinky rings were a definite gay/les sign. I don't know about now. Everything's so metrosexual.

Right, Left, or Forward

I think the prior postings are correct, ear piercing no longer signifies orientation. But if you are looking to give a "sign" why not get an earring(s) with a small rainbow, triangle, or the woman/woman logo. That may help with the family members, provided they watch current events.

I just made myself a rainbow necklace, it helped back in the day!

Dude, the way I came out to my grandmother was that she was visiting and was doing some laundry and she happened across my T-shirt that said "Dip me in honey and feed me to the lesbians." Heh!

PS: it wasn't on purpose.

how humorous...the order of the engineer ring is worn on an engineer's right pinky finger. for those of you who don't know what that is, b/c it's not a well known item, it's a ring that some universities give out once you take the engineering oath. basically you promise you won't design/build anything that will fall apart/injur people.

i had a small rainbow chainmail earring made for myself at a rennissance festival rather recently.

Actually the rainbow thing may not work... Doesn't seem like a lot of people know about that anymore, even one of my lesbian friends didn't know what it means!

A t-shirt that says, "I'm a lesbian" is probably a good way of making your gay presence known.

This is a little known fact but there is actually a Lesbo decoder ring you can get for free once you've collected 2 million kool-aid points. It's a lofty goal, but I'm nearly half-way there. :lol

Or what about a T-shirt that says "I work for UPS!" ? :-D

No offense to anyone who works for UPS and is NOT a LESBIAN.
No offense to anyone who works for UPS and IS a lesbian.
No offense to UPS workers in general, male or female.
No offense to anyone who wishes they did work for UPS but don't actually work there.

I want that decoder ring, Emms - but I'm not sure we have Kool-aid here. Can I collect the ring-pulls from Diet Coke cans instead?

The gay boys I hung out with back in the '80s always said Left is right and right is wrong Of course I could never figure out whether being right meant you were gay or straight...but since this whole concept is so completely outdated, it doesn't matter in the least...I mean really, did you ever think you'd see the day when straught guys would be wearing two earrings?
