This is a thread to discuss whatever you're reading at the moment.

I'm currently reading a collection of ghost stories by Montague Rhodes James

They were written in the nineteenth century and are very different from modern horror stories. They do however manage to be rather chilling even without lots of blood and guts.

I just finished Fingersmith by Sarah Waters.

Right now I'm in the opening chapter of a book called Badger Moon - I'll post the author's name when I check it but off the top of my head I think it's Peter Tremayne. It's about murder in ancient Ireland!

I'm still trying to wade my way through Radclyffe Hall's The Well of Loneliness. I've been trying to read it for about 9 months now, because I thought that I ought to, what with it being on the reading list for Lesbianisity 101. Unfortunately I never get more than a few pages done before I have to stop to remind myself that life is worth living...

I am therefore also reading Run Baby Run by Nicky Cruz in order to serialise it for the summer camp I run.

I've just finished reading Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, and I'm now waiting eagerly for the next one to come out.

I have a pile of books that I haven't read yet, but that is more suitable for the Lists thread!

Flashman on the March by George MacDonald Fraser. Again. I re-read the Flashman series, and Terry Pratchett's Discworld, on a kind of infinite loop, in between other reads.

Recent neat collections of ink on compressed vegetable matter:

The Moneypenny Diaries edited by Kate Westbrook - awesome for the true Bond fan.

Iron Council by China Mieville - more neat-o neo-fantasy, in the same world as the also-cool Perdido Street Station and (my personal favourite) The Scar.

Two Sides of the Moon by Dave Scott and Alexei Leonov. I love space program stuff, especially from the beginning to Apollo.

Volume Seven of The Babylon 5 Scripts of J. Michael Straczynski, which includes the behind-the-scenes stories of the Boob Bowl (and Butt Bowl) and Lyta's Lingerie.

And just to earn withering stares from non-comic-fans, The Avengers: World Trust, in which all the world's capital cities get sucked into black holes or something (it's fun, but in terms of strong drama storytelling it's not really up there with She-Hulk).

I'm actually reading "the Idiot" by Dostoyevsky....gotta say... one hell of a book.....I don't know about english version, but the original is well...some of the words, I have to check with dictionary... aka mom

I'm also reading "History of the world fo dummies" , "Fathers and Sons" by Turgenev, as well as Brown's "Point of Deception".... yeap... I like reading several books at the time as well....and on different languages.... damn no wonder my brain is a mess....ops.. .OT

I'm reading Widdershins by Charles de Lint. It's his latest Newford story and centers on Jilly Coppercorn, and the question is, will she and Geordie get together, or won't they?

I'm in the middle of "Bird by Bird" by Ann Lamott and so far, I'm liking it a lot. I find myself chuckling out loud at almost every page. After this one, I want to check out her other books.

Before that, I read "The Stand" by Stephen King....again.

A friend just gave me "The Loop" by Nicholas Evans (he wrote "The Horse Whisperer"), but I'm kinda iffy on it. It's about a pack of wolves and I'm thinking that there's some wolficide in it, which makes me kinda sad.

Oh god. I read that in college when I was coming out because at the time (1985) it was like the only thing (besides RubyFruit Jungle) that I could find as you said Lesbianisty 101. What a bore!

Heh: I read Even Cowgirls Get the Blues right after I came out. Yeah, it's by a guy (Tom Robbins), and yeah, it's got some dubious parts (there's a line about all the grrls on the ranch doing each other but, strangely enough "not a queer among 'em!" ) . . .

. . . but at least it's lots of fun (More fun than Rubyfruit Jungle)

Currently on my nightstand - The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene and Eating Stone by Ellen Meloy.

The latter concerns the disappearance then reappearance of a small band of bighorn sheep from Utah's canyonlands. If you're into nature stuff, I recommend it.

Jeepers, all this high-brow literature being read is making me feel like a cultural Neanderthal. As such, I feel it's my duty to lower the tone of the thread.

Just finished Labyrinth of Evil (Star Wars novel) and now I'm starting on the novelization of Revenge of the Sith.

Anyone picking up on a common denominator here?

I just finished Sarah Waters' new book The Nightwatch fabulous just like all of her other books...but Tipping the Velvet is still my favorite...now I have read them all and am again in the position of waiting for the next one

Have just started on The Forest Lover by Susan Vreeland, who also wrote The Girl in Hyacinth Blue and The Passion of Artemesia the latter of which was incredible...the were both good really...if you like art history mixed with fiction...anyway, not far enough into The Forest Lover to have an opinion yet...seems like it will be good
