The insperation thread...

Postby Yours » Tue Sep 09, 2008 1:58 pm

Hey guys!
Well I got thinking (ouch!) and I was wondering what gives you amazing kittens insperation?
Insperation to strive for better things, insperation to never give up.
Now my friends and family give me insperation, but I mean more along the lines of songs, poems, paintings, pictures, a quote from a show and/or movie, any quote... Anything at all that makes you srtive for something more. It can be something that gave you inspiration when you were young or something that's given you inspiration recently. I'd really like to know what gives you kittens out there inspiration.
I'll go first seen as this was my idea, lol.

I read a beautiful poem yesterday and I'd like to share it with you guys. It really lifted me up and gave me inspiration to do a little soul searching and see what I can find...

The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it's not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from it's presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes!"
It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

I thought that poem was amazing and I'd like to find out what gives you guys the inspiation to live life to the full.

When I'm really pissed off or just feeling like I don't know where to turn to, my best friend always says this line from one of his favourite movies "Madagascar"... "Just smile and wave!"
Yeah, I know it sounds pretty strange (maybe because we are), but this line always makes me smile... ;-)

Oh and I think I said it before, but there is this music video by Kelly Clarkson. I'm no big fan of pop music, but this video always lightens my mood. Walk Away

Edit: My dad does not really understand English very well and this line from "Walk Away" that says "I'm looking for attention..." made him try to translate it once, cuz he just loves Kellys music. He pronounced it wrong though ("I'm looking for a-tännschen..." which in german means something like "I'm looking for a christmas tree...")... Always makes me laugh! :)

This is a cool idea for a thread Rach'. Thank you for having thought of it.

I have a feeling inspiration is more in relation to synchronicity of thoughts on the earth realm specifically when synchronised simple events or contact moves us away from a popular notion of secular survival and comfort. For example, an unexpected accelerated growth is in itself a source of inspiration for an individual especially when that new and deeper connection does not come up in the form of a real life circus but through a structure of simplicity.

My major source of inspiration for the time being is the field of thanatology. Being in direct contact with nature works just as many wonders though.

Thanatology? Isn't that kind of ... morbid?

On-Topic: Having to think of what inspires me now, I find I can't immediately think of anything. Funny. Perhaps I'm not easily inspired anymore. Impressed, perhaps, but that's not really the same thing as inspired, you know? Michael Phelps impressed the hell out of me ... but I didn't feel inspired enough to start swimming. I guess it was different when I was younger. I was inspired by all sorts of things back then.

Bread by Tulipp The analogy she makes about good bread needing to be kneaded and knocked back as well as being allowed to rise always inspires me when I have a day that feels like I'm being thumped and punched by the universe.

And "I can hear you breathing while you stand inside my life with me" always takes my breath away with it's complex simplicity....

Oh god, Tulipp makes me melt. I must've read Terra Firma twenty times at least. It still affects me like it did the first time. Ohgod, so good. Bread is masterful as well, good call.

This is such a great thread sweetie, I will have to give it a bit more of a think to write another reply but my mum and sister Lisa inspire m and my friend Holly and most recently you. You rock and you are often a guiding light for me. And so what about the whole insperation spelling thing who cares! You have a good heart and that is what is important. xxxx

Hi gorn, that's a good point that you have mentioned. There are certainly some challenging aspects in the study of death that account for morbidity. I had a set of preconceived notions that were naturally brought about my immediate environment but as I learnt to shed these away and actually concentrate on death as a representation of life and living that contributes to change, it became truly inspiring and has remained so till date. To live until we say goodbye is the motto that best describes this attitude.

Hello there Rach', I do not believe you have to excuse yourself for any spelling errors you might make. We are all equal with our distinct sets of stronger and weaker points. And I find the humility with which you expressed your struggle particularly empowering.

Don't be sorry, I'm dyslexic too and I know how hard it can be especially if people think they are helping you by correcting everything or make comments about it. It hurts a lot but don't let them get to you!

But I should keep it on topic lets see what inspires me.... Sometimes it's something simpel like a walk on the beach. I haven't drawn in a long time but when I did one line or just a miss placed pencil mark on a piece of paper would have inspire me, into drawing something nice out of it.
