perhaps she saw a script and decided to take a pass?

or - perhaps there is another role on the horizon that is more of a star vehicle for her?

I'm hoping she's not in the JLH thing b/c she got offered a permanent place on Veronica Mars. Apparantly (from TWOP forums) Aly has already filmed three episodes and they look pretty good. Hopefully what happened is they decided to make her a regular from her performance.

FYI...the VM pilot is on tonight if you have missed this decent show...

Sorry about the repeat myself;I read it yesterday then came here and like the goofball I son often am, ONLY READ THE FIRST PAGE.

Interesting turn, tho, for the reasons mentioned above;to me it has a very "that's hollywood" quality to it.

I like this take from TVGuide, maybe he'll follow up w/ more info later.

Question: Don't you think it's odd that Alyson Hannigan would take a supporting role in Jennifer Love Hewitt's upcoming ABC comedy In the Game (Entertainment News 1/5)? I mean, she almost had her own sitcom on NBC! — Barbara

Ausiello: I did think it odd — and apparently so did Alyson, since she has dropped out of the project. Roseanne's Sara Gilbert is replacing her. Don't know what happened there but maybe it has something to do with Hannigan guesting on Veronica Mars Feb. 22nd as Logan's half-sister.

It wasn't our world anymore, they made it theirs and they had fun - Willow

Hannigan Out of ABC's 'Game'

(Monday, January 24 10:46 AM)

By Daniel Fienberg

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" co-star Alyson Hannigan's latest stab at becoming a network television sitcom star has lasted less than two weeks. ABC confirms that the actress has departed the comedy "In the Game" over creative differences.

Earlier this month, Hannigan signed on for the Jennifer Love Hewitt series playing the best friend of Hewitt's character, a sports television producer who becomes an on-air star. Originally developed for last fall, "In the Game" has been undergoing a number of changes and as the second pilot was being conceived, Hannigan's character went in a direction that didn't interest the 30-year-old actress.

"Alyson Hannigan came on into a role as the process was going through the week," ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson says. "The role kind of diminished just based on the storytelling that was going on. She was unhappy and wanted off the show, so we allowed her to leave."

Sara Gilbert has reportedly been added to the "Game" cast, but the part has been downgraded from a co-starring role to a recurring character. Gilbert's tenure with the show may also be brief, given that the former "Roseanne" co-star is doing a comedy project with The WB.

Meanwhile, after the network pulled a planned "In the Game" panel for the Television Critics Association, McPherson was left to explain that show's ongoing status.

"I always found it odd when networks put up shows that they hadn't really seen yet or that they were reworking entirely and said, 'Hey guys, it's going to be fantastic,'" McPherson explains. "We don't know that yet because we haven't seen it. We shot a pilot. We thought there was tremendous potential, specifically in Ed O'Neill and Jennifer. So we reshot last week. I'll see a rough cut of it probably Thursday or Friday."

Hannigan, best know for her years as Willow Rosenberg on The WB and UPN's "Buffy," will still be returning to the small screen in the near future. As was reported last week, Hannigan will make a guest appearance on UPN's "Veronica Mars," playing the daughter of Harry Hamlin's Aaron Echolls. While conceived as a one-shot cameo, it could become a recurring part for Hannigan. Her episode will air on Feb. 22 and she has at least one important fan in the cast.

"When I met her, I was just floored at home wonderful she was," "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell told reporters last week. "She has a very sweet presence about her, very grateful, respectful. She's a wonderful woman to work with, I think, and was very sweet. And you know, I was just asking her questions about her experiences and she gave me some guidance and she was lovely."

Veronica Mars: Look at you, all helpful.

Logan Echols: Hey, your peskiness being unleashed on Conner brings me joy. Annoy, tiny blonde one, annoy like the wind!

Thanks for posting the article Incarnadine. It is good to hear it was her own decision to walk and I am sure it was a wise one. I love it that she landed a role on Veronica Mars instead. I hope she and Kristen Bell will get some good scenes together.

There is no cuccess without the Hannigan name.

GAME OVER: Turns out Alyson Hannigan wasn't the only one "unhappy" with ABC's midseason Jennifer Love Hewitt comedy In the Game. Just weeks after the Buffy alumnas quit the project, ABC has pulled the plug on the sitcom altogether. The show was set at a SportsCenter-type program and co-starred Ed O'Neill and Christine Baranski. It's not clear why ABC killed Game, but it's safe to say Garfield didn't help.

That's too bad. I've never been a fan of JLH, but I went to see the taping of that pilot and she really impressed me. In fact the entire cast was great - well maybe with the exception of Ed O'Neill. As the male lead he was kind of a dud.

Funny thing though, Sara Gilbert was obviously in Aly's wardrobe. She was being adjusted and fitted constantly during the taping. Even her shoes were like 2 inches too big.

But what really got me was that Sara had Aly hair. I'm not kidding. Sara Gilbert practically has her own trademark hair, right? Well not in this pilot! It's as though someone ran out and bought a long "Alyson Hannigan" wig for her to wear for the occasion. It was weird, and I'm sure I made Sara uncomfortable staring at her while wondering "what the heck."

It's a shame that it was dropped though. It really was quite good.
