Simpsons gets lesbian character?!

Postby TaraLivesOn » Mon Oct 18, 2004 6:47 pm

Is this for real?

www.digitalspy.co.uk/arti...16039.html

Quote:
Marge's sister Patty will come out as a lesbian in a future episode of The Simpsons, according to The Sun today.

The purple-haired heavy smoker will decide to pursue women after being snubbed by every man in Springfield. She soon finds true love after being seduced by a butch lesbian in a bar, leaving Homer horrified.

His horror is short-lived, however, as he ends up becoming ordained as a minister over the internet in order to marry the pair.

Oddly enough, it is that I know of. Can't wait to see if Fox actually airs the ep though.

Well it will be hard to avoid the issue if they stay married?

I love how it's "in your face" to Bush but do they have to make it "after being snubbed by every man". Sheesh.

Yeah I don't like that part. I've become a lesbian because the men don't want me.. bleh. I hope it plays better. The simpsons have always had interesting gay things going on though.

Well if you look at Patty's taste in men you could just argue she's been in denial for years, I mean they don't come much more 'girlie' than Sideshow Bob'.:) Of course the timing of it in the middle of a debate about gay marriage is hardly coincidental, ever since that crack about the 'Waltons' back in the first Bush presidency they've always enjoyed needling him, and now its Dubya's turn.

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the person you l-love

Willow: I am

Patty? Lesbian? Well that will be an interesting plot, would like to see that get aired. If the marriage does stay as something then yea it will be hard to by pass. hehe

Have to admit this is perfect timing for the elections though, go figure. Listen and listen well Bush...

Waitaminnit, waitaminnit: unless I'm mistaken, it's Selma who got married to Sideshow Bob (and had the fling w/ . . . dammit, blanking on the over-the-hill actor-guy: "You may remember me from _____!"). Patty was characterized (by Marge, IIRC) as being asexual.

GG So, that would make sense: she was asexual as long as she thought she was straight. Then---Ding, ding, ding, ding!---the lightbulb (finally!) comes on, and her asexuality is OVER. :pride At least, that's the way they oughta play it. Out

GG--you're correct...Selma married Bob & Troy McClure (who we remember from such films as "Meet Joe Blow," "Give My Remains to Broadway," & the filmstrip "Locker Room Towel Fight: The Blinding of Larry Driscoll"). In "Principal Charming," Skinner is invited to the Simpson's to meet Selma who wants to get married. He meets Patty first & eventually proposes. Selma is depressed & is going to accept Barney's advances, so Patty turns Skinner down. (so says my Simpsons book)

It wasn't our world anymore, they made it theirs and they had fun - Willow

Hasn't Patty been a lesbian for a while though?

There was that episode with the gay pride parade that had the "in the closet" float where there were two people in closets and you just heard their voices. One was Smithers and I'm sure the other was Patty.

That's actually why Patty was my guess when I heard there was going to be a character coming out. So now I can feel all pleased with myself. :)

[Cazzie, may I be immature for a moment? {Kittens collectively inquire: "GG's going to be immature only for a moment?!" :shock }]

Hey, when I "feel all" :bigwave I usually end up "pleased with myself" too! :lmao

GG Sorry, I just couldn't resist! :p Good call about Patty in the "In the Closet" float though . . . :grin Out

From Comics Continuum...

Quote:
"There's Something about Marrying" is the new episode scheduled to air on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"One of Springfield's own comes out of the closet. To boost tourism, the town decides to legalize same-sex marriage. Homer discovers the monetary value of gay union, becomes an ordained minister via the Internet and soon marries everyone and everything in town -- including a surprising someone he knows."

Well this episode finally aired.

It really was making a good but funny statement until the end.

Kinda confused the whole episode's point I think.

Won't spoil it until more people have a chance to watch.

I hope in 50 years people can look back and say "why were people making such a fuss over gay marriage". 20 years would be even better but I know its going to take a generation for hate to die off.

I thought it was very funny....I was a little concerned with the warning at the begging of the ep..but it was good. It defeintaly gives a voice to the issue of gay and lesbain marriage but it doesnt put it on a pedistal..instead the issue is reduced to normaly with Homer and town still being a bunch of funny fucked up bums..it was good..made it feel very normal and natural for the ep..

the episode finally aried over here in the UK on sky one last week.

i was very interested in seeing what happened after reading about it on here. it was a funny episode. i kinda had a feeling that the marriage would never go through, so the writers wouldn't have to stick with it. *sighs* oh well, at least she's out of the closet now. i was generalyl pleased with the ep. so hurrah. :)
