Transamerica (movie)

Postby Gatito Grande » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:04 pm

This is a very sweet little movie, anchored by a terrific (and now, award-winning) performance by Felicity Huffman as "Bree", an MTF transsexual. Lots of laughs, but not inconsiderable pain, as she discovers the mess that her (heretofor unknown) teenage son has made of his life (w/ a lot of "help", i.e. abuse, along the way). The always dependable Fionnula Flannagan (sp) turns in a great cameo as Bree's mother-from-hell: she's cringe-o-riffic! Graham Greene is also sweet as the Native American rancher who takes a shine to Bree.

GG If you have a chance to see this movie---it's opening in more and more places now---check it out! :applause Out

[Add to TransAmerica to what is now a small genre of "MTF Road Movies": along w/ To Wong Foo, and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! :lol ]

I saw TransAmerica in a sneak preview in late December, and it was so good. I cried. Felicity Huffman did a great job (and won a Golden Globe, right?) and the son did also.

These aren't really spoilers as such, but just in case folks like to see a movie with no advance knowledge of the plot:
The family scenes were hilarious and the right cathartic vehicle at the right time in the film.
I loved this movie, it's a good road movie. Typical stuff happens as they do in these type of movies but what really makes it great is Felicity , she's amazing as Sabrina, bree. I was surprised at the hustler storyline of the son, I was not aware of it beforehand.

I just watched this and thought it was a lot of fun. It was a bit more serious than I was expecting. Someone had me thinking it was pure comedy. It ended up being quite the mix of comedy and drama. Excellent acting by everyone involved.

The sister, Sydney, was played by Carrie Preston. Every time she was on I kept trying to figure out where I knew her from. Turns out she was in an episode of Wonderfalls. She played the nun that strayed from the cloth in Wound-up Penguin.

So, I really enjoyed it and I'll surely watch it again. Then I might lend it to my brother. Heh.

Heh: I knew almost immediately where I'd seen her. The Sex and the City episode "The Chicken Dance" (wherein she steals a guy that Miranda had had her eye on) had been on the night before I saw the movie! :lol

GG Still wish FH had won the Oscar... :aww Out
