Pirates of the Caribbean Movie(s)

Postby bytrsuite » Sat Jul 15, 2006 6:21 pm

Well, I've seen the first two movies, though I don't really remember a lot about the first one. (it's on right now, but I missed the beginning)

I think it's a fun series of movies I'm sure I'll see the thrid one, whenever that comes out. The Curse of the Black Pearl had a heck of a lot of action, it was almost like there was too much, or it all happened too close together or something.

Jack Sparrow is my favorite character, of course. I like Elizabeth because she's hot, heh. The rest of them are really fun and make a great ensemble.

Every time I watch one, I always find myself wanting to talk like a pirate. I resist that urge, mostly.

Anyway, if you want to discuss plot points of the Black Pearl movie, which is still in theaters in the US, please use the spoiler code. Which is
Post what plot point or whatever
I saw this movie today and, just like the first one, I loved it. Johnny Depp was amazing and Keira Knightley was gorgeous. I can't wait for the third one.

And I tremble, and grow pale. For I am dying of such love.

I did not watch the first one when it first came out in the cinema and on DVD, I could not see the appeal of it and I am probably one of the few people who does not like Johnny Depp (don´t mean personally, though I wonder why he always sounds stoned when he talks to reporters). A few months ago it was on TV and I watched it and lo and behold, I enjoyed it very much and I really did like Depp as Sparrow. I am not sure whether I will go see the second one in the cinema, if I don´t I will be getting the DVD when it comes out.

I didn't see the new one, but I did see the first one on DVD and enjoyed it very much.

I especially enjoyed the performance of Geoffrey Rush as the "villain", and loved the way he adapted a lot of Robert Newton's tics to his own style.
[NOTE: Robert Newton, the fine English character actor who portrayed Long John Silver in the 1950s, is the guy who's responsible for what we think of today as "typical" pirate mannerisms, such as a saying "Me hearties" or "maties" and saying "Arrrggggh" all the time--just goes to show how good he was! ;-) ]

Of course, I also liked Depp/Knightly/Bloom, and the picture had some really good dialogue. One of my favorites--

Official( to Capt. Jack): You are the worst pirate of have ever heard of!
Jack Sparrow: Ah, but you have heard of me!! :lol

I saw the first on DVD and the second yeasterday. Alot of fun. Dead Man's chest has some amazing action sequences. Johnny Depp owns Jack Sparrow and Kiera Knightley gets to kick butt. Recommended.

We saw this at the movies yesterday. It is a whole lot of fun. Action, humor, a great cast. This is a film you can easily watch more than once.

I do think it could stand to have about 20 minutes edited out. There were a few action sequences that I thought went on just a bit too long, but that's a minor complaint. Watching Jack Sparrow run (too funny!) more than made up for that.

If you're thinking of seeing this movie you really should see it on a big screen. Some of the scenes and locations really are quite breathtaking.

Is it me or is Keira Knightley a very hot pirate?
"And beyond the Wild Wood?" asked the Mole.
"The Wide World," said the Rat. "And that doesn't matter."
