Ok, for all of my fellow frenchies out there, I'll mention "Haute Tension" - I can't even describe how terribly bad this thing was (also, it's mentioned in the Dead Lesbian Cliché Thread, so, enough said.)

Now, I'm sorry, but I thought that Underworld was truly terrible. Highly unoriginal and dull, in my opinion. And since I just saw it on DVD, I'll mention Daredevil, that was so so very bad it actually almost was funny. Crappy dialogue, lame action sequences, bad acting from almost everyone but Jennifer Garner (I'm not a fan, but she was the only pretty good thing in this, I felt) and well, a moronic script added to the fact it's badly shot and cut, that made for one bad, bad movie...

"Breakfast of Champions"

I did not really watch it, I just saw the last 15 minutes or so out of the corner of my eye while I was waiting for another program to come on, but I saw and heard enough to hate it with a passion. They stuffed it full of big Hollywood names, had them scream their lines really loudly and overact in the extreme to create one of the most annoying pseudo intellectual unfunny pieces of money wasting crap to ever cross my line of sight. I can't say the worst though, that honor will probably forever go to Gigli.

Actually I realized that the movie I hate the most is one I've never seen and won't watch on principle. That movie is U-571. In WWII there was indeed a daring operation which swiped the enigma machine and codes from a German U-boat. The teeny little problem is that it was carried out by a British destroyer. U-571's cavalier attempt to steal a piece of history just got me hot under the collar. :angry

Ironically another movie I won't go see is 'Timeline' precisely because it doesn't mess with history. If you are going to do a time travel movie from a book you could have picked Eric Flint's '1632' or Leo Frankowski's 'Cross Time Engineer', or indeed Harry Turtledoves 'Guns of the South'. So why pick this Michael Crichton potboiler????

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the person you l-love

Willow: I am

chilled monkey:

I guess I specifically didnt like it because I went in with really really high hopes.

I'd seen Spider Man, X-Men and Daredevil a million times before, and I thought Marvel would've done a better portrayal or why the hulk is who he is.

In my theory, the Hulk is just like everyone else. He had that part of him in his body nobody could stop or control, i always compared the hulk to every other person in the world...

I just couldnt compare myself to the movie version of hulk...it made me sad, but it also made me happy that I couldnt see myself being a huge monster-like green glob...:)

thats just my opinion though, im sorry if i shot down anyone who liked it...:blush

Remake woes

Postby sam7777 » Thu Dec 11, 2003 1:50 pm

I was really dissappointed the remake of Planet of the Apes. The movies wasn't that bad generally but it's just that I expected so much more from Tim Burton. The ape make up looked worse to me than the stuff they used in the original in the 70's. Poor Helena Bonham Carter forced to act under all that. The ending had a nice twist to match the original, however. For the most part I'm not inclined to watch remakes. I'd prefer to see some new stuff get on the screen but the media corporations prefer the less risky name identification. And they pick some of the cheesiest stuff to remake like "McHale's Navy", "Beverly Hillbillies and "Planet of the Apes".

I'll never get those two hours of my life back

Postby sabina » Thu Dec 18, 2003 8:22 am

Has anyone seen "Intolerable Cruelty"?

I was in the middle of my exams and I thought that going to the movie's would be a good way to relax a little and recharge my bateries for another round of studying.

It was a good idea until I decided to go see "Intolerable Cruelty".

I think it was one of the worst movies that I have ever seen... really... and in my opinion it isn't even the cast fault the movie's so bad, it's the story that it is so lame that I find it incredible someone decided to make a film out of that.

It's supposed to be a romantic comedy but it isn't even remotelly funny (unless you start to laugh at yourself for your bad luck and chosing that movie).

But I could live with a romantic comedy that wasn't much of a comedy at all as long as the romance part was still there... too bad this movie lacked the romance too.

In the end all I have to say is that I'll never get those two hours of my life back :sob

Is that the one w/ George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones? I had the feeling, looking at the ads, that "these two people are too pretty for this world---and *too pretty to be paired together in a movie* (not enough mystery and chemistry in that)"

GG Can it really be worse than the 2 hours I lost to "The Royal Tannenbaums" though? :p Out

Yes, it's the one with George Cloney and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

I thought it would be a fun movie... I like both actors so in my (obviously delusional :lol ) opinion nothing could go wrong!!

The fact is that the plot absolutely sucks and you're right... they have absolutely no chemistry at all between them :sob

Note to self: Never bother to see "The Royal Tannenbaums" :wink

Yeah I wan the 90 minutes or so I wasted watching "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". Gawd that sucked. It's written so badly that you can barley follow the plot not that you want to. The only bright spot is that I liked Stewart Townsend as Dorien Gray. Nothing like the excellent grpahic novel by Alan Moore. "From Hell" was a flawed but decent movie though it also didn't hold a candle to the graphic novel. I'd love to see a work by Alan Mooore get the X-men or Spiderman treatment but I'm not holding my breath.

Footman, I think there was a relatively decent 1 and half to two hour movie *buried within* Titanic's overloaded dreck. But as an overall movie, yeah, it sucked pretty bad (Biggest Box Office of All Time? Geez, I hope ROTK or something knocks it off!).

The two worst movies I have ever seen and wasted precious hours of my life watching were The Island of Dr. Moreau(w/Val Kilmer) and Summer of Sam. They were just two really bad and very boring movies.

AP Opinion:

I really didn't like the 1st American Pie when I came out but I watched it again this past summer and loved it. My friend and I watched it at least once a day for two weeks so we knew it practically word for word(plus it was way better than going to class). I also really liked the 2nd one because there was more Michelle in it and I thought it was a funny movie. I absolutely hated the 3rd one. I hated Stifler's voice and was hoping for more Michelle and Jim...ok, really just more Michelle but it I thought it was just a waste of time to watch.

Ice Age - That movie blows. It was a ripped-off of Monsters Inc, but it was less funny and with an uglier baby being looked after. Boo rawks.

Titanic - The only good reason to cry during this movie is realization of the fact that you just blew 3 hours of your life watching the suckiest movie ever made. Why didn't the rich chick Rose not let Jack on the raft thingy with her? Because she is a selfish cow, that's why. The next time anyone says "I'm the king of the world", I'm going to deliver a roundhouse kick to the face.

Vanilla Sky - I'm trying to find a good thing to say about this movie but I can't. Sorry, I lied, I wasn't trying to find a good thing to say about Vanilla Sky because doing that would be a complete waste of brainpower because THERE ARE NONE.

I can't agree with you guys about Titanic - I loved the movie and still do. Makes me cry though, so I don't watch it very often. I love the ending.

Now, let me try to make myself a list here.

1. Stephen King's Cat's Eye - That little troll or creature... whatever he was, terrified the crap out of me when I first saw this movie. It was about the same terrified as it was for Critters the first time I saw it. I love Critters now, it's one of my favorite horror flicks, but, Cat's Eye... I will never watch that movie again. :yikes Damn troll!

2. Baby... Secret of the Lost Legend - I don't so much hate this movie, but it's one of those I can't watch because it's so sad. I probably could watch it now, but I remember when I was younger and I watched this and I cried like a baby when Baby's mother was killed. :cry

3. Troll 1 - I remember watching this a couple of times growing up and I don't really know why cause, the movie really does suck. It was a good attempt at a horror movie, but it was really bad, too.

4. Labyrinth - The goblins scare me! Probably will never watch that movie again. I listen to some of the soundtrack though. Loved David Bowie's songs.

5. Higher Learning - This movie I could go either way on. On one hand, I like it, but on the other I don't. Despite the fact that it has a hot lesbian scene in it, or at least I think it's hot... it's also so controversial. I'm not sure.

6. Black and White - The only good thing about this movie was Gina Gershon. :thud The rest of it sucked.

7. Jumanji - I can handle this movie every once in while, but... it's annoying.

8. Dracula 2000 - :yawn :puke That's really all I have to say about that movie.

9. Predator 2 - :rolleyes There was no Arnold, therefore, nothing good about it. I have nothing against Danny Glover, but... no!

10. Prancer - It was okay the first couple of times I saw it... now it's just annoying.

Well, I can't think of any others right now, but I'm sure there are plenty more.

bad movies

Postby janedoe » Tue Feb 03, 2004 6:31 pm

astrangehero- I completely agree- The Order was terrible. Heath Ledger (who is an actor I usually like) did a horrible job, and don't get me started on the plot.

Other movies I hate:

- Titanic

- any JLo movie

- Pretty In Pink

- Daredevil

- the Romeo and Juliet with Leo and Clare(sp?) Danes

- Perfect Storm

and the worst movie ever:

JAWS- I was scared of the bathtub for weeks after watching that movie (I was 7, but it still scarred me for life).

Why do we waste our time?!

Postby KiwiAlcyone » Tue Feb 03, 2004 8:50 pm

I spend a large amount of time watching movies and spend a lot of time sifting through crap to find the good ones. I think I disagree with a few of you about some movies though, I loved Daredevil - Colin Farrell was great and what part of Jennifer Garner in tight as pants isnt drool worthy? :p I also really liked Labyrinth, depsite David Bowie's hair! Hey, I grew up watching that movie.

Sucky movies to steer clear of:

The Hours - The only movie I considered walking out of at the theatre. Usually once I hand over my money I'm committed to sitting there the whole time. I fell asleep before I could walk out though.

Maid in Manhattan - My flatmate is a huge Ralph Fiennes fan and they guy isnt bad...when's he's playing a nutter...but JLo - yick!

Darkman 2 - Being the huge Xena fan I am I brought this movie because it has Renee O'Connor in it - I really shouldnt have.

Taboo - Yes, Amber looked amazing and was amazing but the rest of the movie was a steaming pile of crap. I should make my own edit of the movie of just the scenes with Amber.

The Phantom Menace - Self-proclaimed Star Wars nerd here...can you imagine my disappointment after waiting all those years after Return of the Jedi came out only to find the first of the new movies was absolutely terrible - Jar Jar...annoying kid? CGI overload! AOTC was a little better...more Natalie Portman...
