I don´t care much at all for Clint Eastwood movies, but I can´t help liking the Dirty Harry movies. They´re so obviously dated, over the top machismo, sexist and cliched (all the bad guys need are black hats to make them complete and Harry´s superior officers are always highly annoying pencil pushing incompetent morons) that they actually amuse me. :p

I hate movies (and TV shows for that matter) that blatantly and clumsily try to manipulate our emotions. One set of movies that come to mind is the Dirty Harry films. They make the villains so card board and one dimensional that your want LT Callahan to bignore police procedure and blow them away. This caters to the worse in us.

Another film, "Possesion" has the 19th century woman author's girlfrined kill herself to wring out a sad emotion lacking in the rest of the rather bland film. Problem is that the woman was never developed as a character. She was more of a plot point to complicate the romance between the 19th century authors. I would have though that the fact that the male 19th century author was married was conflict enought. But no, they have to up the melodrama and add another character for "tragedy". This trivializes the issue of suicide to little effect.

Hate is a strong word, and I don't do too much hating, but I have to agree with some people and say that Taboo was a really crappy movie - with the exception, of course, of Amber. I read somewhere online that Amber was actually telling her fans not to watch it because it wasn't something she was proud of. Aw, bless her.

Another film that I didn't particularly enjoy is Soul Survivors. This is partially due to the fact I had no idea what was going on most of the time. What the devil was that all about? I guess I'll have to watch it again or something.

Another one is House of the Dead. My girl and I saw it this summer and pretty much laughed throughout. It did give us time for snuggles though, so I won't complain too much.

Oh, and I don't tend to go for those damn Mashley-Kate Olsen movies. It's safe to say I hate those.

i envy your ignorance, i hear that it's bliss. ani difranco

FIVE of my Worst Films Ever, in no order:

1. Batman & Robin

2. Spontaneous Combustion

3. Speed 2: Cruise Control

4. A movie that shares a name with a certain TV show...

5. A.I. Artificial Intelligence

However, one film I adore that seems to get a lot of hate is "The Rules of Attraction".

Well, I think Michelle Trachtenburg is a cutie-patootie (I can legally say that now! ;) ) and, it goes w/o saying, I worship the ground Lucy Lawless walks on. But Eurotrip? :stink

GG Thank God my hick theater only charged me $4.50 to see it---even so, I got ripped off! :spin Out

The best think about this movie is that poster w/ Michelle's prominent cleavage! :drool (and it's a heck of lot more sexy than all the naked flesh---male and female---in the movie)

Awww, you didn't like her Wundersex routine? :lmao It was sad but funny....I gotta say, she does dominatrix well. I have noticed that Lucy hasn't been making the best career choices lately. Could it be Taproot's influence? God I hope not.

Kieli, it was hard for me to even stay w/ the film long enought to see the Wundersexx schtick (which I thought could have been better in itself): I just about walked w/ the idiotically sexist "hot tub" scene in the first 10 minutes. :mad

GG The chick would have to be near-catatonically intoxicated for the scene to have been even *remotely* believable. Gratuitous skin in the service of crass sexism just doesn't do it for me . . . and then there was all the imagery of stereotypically predatory gay males: "Scusi", but also a turn-off. :miff Out

Well, apparently pandering to every stereotype in the book brings in big bucks. Every teen movie I've seen made within the last 20 yrs has been guilty of it. Makes me shudder every time.

J-Lo, Affleck Dominate Worst-Film Awards

By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer

LOS ANGELES - The honeymoon's over for Ben Affleck (news) and Jennifer Lopez (news), but their mob-comedy flop "Gigli" really cleaned up Saturday at the Razzies, the first movie to take all six top trophies in the annual dishonorable-mention awards.

Golden Raspberry Awards voters picked "Gigli" as 2003's worst picture, Affleck as worst actor, Lopez as worst actress and the two as worst screen couple. "Gigli" filmmaker Martin Brest also took the Razzies for worst director and screenplay.

"Gigli" hit theaters last summer amid the tabloid frenzy over Affleck and Lopez's on-again, off-again wedding plans. They finally announced in January the romance was off.

The movie, which starred Affleck as a thug smitten by Lopez as a lesbian crime colleague, fell short of the record seven Razzies won by "Showgirls" and "Battlefield Earth."

"But those are much better bad movies, if that makes any sense," said Razzies founder John Wilson. "If you sit through them with the right people or the right brand of liquor, they can be strangely entertaining.

"But I don't care how medicated you are or what people you're watching it with, `Gigli' is just a pain in the posterior. It's one of those things that is, as opposed to enjoyably embarrassing, it's just skin-crawlingly embarrassing."

:rofl (editorial by xita):lol

"Gigli" cost $54 million to make but earned back just $6 million.

Among other "winners," Sylvester Stallone (news) padded his Razzie resume with a record 10th prize, this time for worst supporting actor in "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over." Stallone's past Razzies include one for worst actor of the 20th century.

With the 25th annual Razzies coming up next year, the group is considering a special career-achievement prize for Stallone, Wilson said.

In "Spy Kids 3-D," "he plays five characters, so technically the whole supporting-actor category could have been made up of his performances," Wilson said.

Demi Moore (news) took the supporting-actress Razzie for her comeback role in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," which also was named worst remake or sequel.

"She tried to come back, and we said, `No, thanks. We chased you away before. Go away again,'" Wilson said.

The storybook adaptation "Dr. Seuss' the Cat in the Hat" won the Razzie for worst excuse for a movie.

Another top nominee, "From Justin to Kelly," was shut out in the awards balloting by the roughly 600 Razzie voters.

The group decided to give the movie — a spring-break romp featuring "American Idol" stars Kelly Clarkson (news) and Justin Guarini — a special "governor's award" for distinguished underachievement in choreography.

Here's a rundown of the, um, winners of the 24th annual Golden Raspberry Awards:

* Worst Picture: Gigli

* Worst Actor: Ben Affleck (news), Daredevil, Gigli, Paycheck

* Worst Actress: Jennifer Lopez (news), Gigli

* Worst Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

* Worst Supporting Actress: Demi Moore, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

* Worst Screen Couple: Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez, Gigli

* Worst Excuse for an Actual Movie: Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat

* Worst Remake or Sequel: Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

* Worst Director: Martin Brest, Gigli

* Worst Screenplay: Gigli

* Special Governor's Award (for bad choreography): From Justin to Kelly

I read somewhere that it only made £25,000 in the UK and was withdrawn from all screens after the first week. :lol

It's also nice to see Gigli get the "recognition" that it truly deserves. Maybe this will convince Hollywood that people don't want to see Ben Afflect "reform" any more lesbians.

The thing about 'Gigli' is it seems to hav existed solely to cash in on a 'hot couple' without bothering to find out whether they had any onscreen chemistry, or worry about little things like a coherent plot. There are movies which start out as good ideas but are badly made and then are films like this where it should have been obvious from day one it was a terrilbe idea.

They met on the set of Gigli alright, so they were not trying to pimp that relationship when they made this movie, but they put off releasing it for so long that by that time they did, Benny and Jenny were a "hot" couple. They obviously did try their best in pushing the relationship as an excuse to get people to see the movie. I was in LA at the time and had the pleasure of seeing several previews on TV, an extended B/J interview about their totally normal happy perfect ´he wears the pants in the family and I love to take care of him´ relationship. I even saw a building which entire side was covered by a Gigli add with the happy couple. Quite disconcerting. It certainly wasn´t lack of advertising that made it tank.

Usually when they show previews they try and pick the best parts of the movie right. Well if what I saw were the best parts, I shudder to think what the rest of the movie was like. American Wedding was released around that time too, I am so glad that AW cleaned the floor with Gigli.

I must say that judging from the previews that movie that got an oscar nomination (I forgot the name, it´s about three guys and horse races) would bore the shit out of me. That has got to be one of the worst trailers I ever saw. Cliched lines, dramatic weeping and whining, hurt, pain, glory, hope, cheesy music. Blergh, it seemed like a bunch of pretentious melodramatic crap.

Hmm so 'Gigli' didn't even have the excuse of trying to cash in on Ben and Jen? Just makes it all the more baffling.:spin Oh and of course we now have a candidate for all time least favourite Kitten movie; begins with a F, which coincidentally is waht I suspect most comments about it will begin with as well...

More bad movies

Postby KiwiAlcyone » Fri Mar 05, 2004 3:33 am

heya kittens,

I had such a bad movie day that i just have to rant about it,

Firstly, I went to the movies because you know, day off and all...and I saw Timeline because I've always had a bit of a thing for Paul Walker. Anyway, this movie only reinforces the fact that he can't act and what on earth where they thinking in casting Billy Connelly?

Also, I watched 'A Guy Thing', well, half of it after I turned it off...*sighs* Julia Stiles is cool but this movie ain't.

Anyway, I watched Charlie's Angels to make up for the bad movieness and now I'm happy again,

I hated "The Passion of Christ". So much print and bandwidth has been expended on this film that I long for Janet Jackson to expose another body part so that something else would dominate entertainment news. I wasn't much of Mel Gibson fan before this since I hated the historical fudging and outright misrepresentation done on his last 3 films: "Braveheart", "Patriot" and "We were Soldiers" . And Passion makes 4 on the historically lacking list IMHO. I know he was primarily and actor on "Patriot" and "We were Soldiers" but he could have pushed for accuracy as the big star and given what he has done as director, historical accuracy is not his thing. I won't watch another Mel Gibson film be he star, director, producer or whatever. He can make his mega millions off of someone else.

Mulholland Drive! What in the world? The ending was so bizarre that I had to go online and read what other people wrote about it and only till then did I sort of get it. I wouldn't say I hated it, I just was so confused that I hated thinking about it!

Hmmm. I don't generally like to use the "Love" or "Hate" threads for debate, but I have to say that I think Mulholland Drive is one of the best movies of the past 5 years (and would be even if there weren't hot f/f action . . . well, maybe not then! ;) )

GG It definitely helps to have seen Lynch before though, in order to understand MD. A year or so before I saw it, I went on a "Twin Peaks" binge . . . and *love* that Angelo Badolamenti music! :heart Out
