Ah yes, poor J.D. Hopefully there is a neverending supply of chocolate ice cream in doggie heaven. Glad to see Mason is still going to be around, I would have missed him. Loved the Happy Time action and enjoyed seeing Meghan Black from the Edgemont tv show. And Katie Stuart too, as the doomed cadet.Lots to like about this ep.

But the dropping of the change in appearance issue for reapers still bugs me. If they had just inserted a line to explain it, no matter how silly an explanation it seemed, I would feel better. And yes, that will cause problems in the future for George. Maybe they'll get around to explaining it then.

DLM cancelled

...the contracts for the “Dead Like Me” cast expired, and Fuller’s reps informed him Showtime programming exec Bob Greenblat failed to pick up a third season of “Dead Like Me,” the other high-profile show Fuller created.

“They called me last week and said it was cancelled,” Fuller told Ain’t It Cool Monday. Execs at MGM are “currently trying to find a new home for it, perhaps even the SciFi Channel.”

Now, I acknowledge that “Dead” has been a shadow of its former self since Fuller left it early in its first season. But is Greenblat saving up for another season of “Huff”?

I can't believe this. This was one of the best shows on TV. Showtime is insane.

Terrible, terrible news. Although it started out slowly this season I thought it built well, and I thought the last few ep's were excellent. If it is over there is slight consolation in that last shot of George being seen by her sister at the gravesite. It was a beautiful moment. I'm not hopeful that it will find a home elsewhere, but you never know I suppose. If Showtime thinks Huff is the answer I would have to disagree. It's a decent show, and Oliver Platt in particular is great, but it has none of the charm of Dead Like Me.

I'll agree with that. If Dead Like Me has to end, at least it went out in style. I'm not sure they could have done a better series finale even if they'd known it was the series finale.

"The stories we tell - that's us explaining how we think the world works. Once we speak it, once we say it aloud, that makes it real for us - and real for everyone else who hears it too. < sigh> I hope this show gets picked up somewhere. Even though the ending was great, I was looking forward to seeing where it was gonna go in the future.

Question: No, no, no! Showtime can't cancel Dead Like Me! Might another network pick it up? — Joseph T. Sustrik

Ausiello: It's a good question, and one I posed to MGM's television president Hank Cohen over the phone yesterday. "We are exploring every opportunity and option that we have available to us," he told me. "It's a terrific show and, contrary to what [Showtime president Robert Greenblatt] told Variety [on Tuesday], our producers don't feel like we've even begun to explore all of the Reaper opportunities that we have. We have a very, very loyal fan base and I'm going to do everything I can for these fans to make sure the show lives on. The irony of all this is that Dead Like Me is a metaphor for second chances, and we're hopefully going to find one." Cohen expects a final decision will be made within 45 days, which, according to my calculations, is plenty of time to mount a massive letter-writing campaign.

IT'S ALIVE: It looks like Showtime's late Grim Reaper drama Dead Like Me may be getting a new lease on life. As reported in today's brand-new "Ask Ausiello," MGM — which produces the cult fave — has approached WB execs about picking up the two-year-old show. Sources say the Frog network is currently mulling the offer, so here's my advice to all you Dead fans: Ready. Set. Mobilize! Well, what are you waiting for — go!

Hmmm. I can't be the only one who thinks that Dead Like Me will lose a lot of its bite if it has to be on the WB, right? I am trying to imagine it as a WB show. And mostly I think bleh.

Where have I been? I had no idea it had been dumped. I was just starting to really enjoy it. Sigh. I didn't even think I'd have to worry about it being canceled prematurely because it was on Showtime, where the subscriber is supposedly mightier than the ratings point. Now the only fun thing to do with Showtime is to drink a bottle of wine and giggle at those hysterically overwrought and cheesy ads for "The L Word."

I was sad when this show was cancelled, but I think the last episode was nice.

I've been watching season two episodes recently and it just made me remember how much I enjoyed this show. I really grew to love Daisy. She's fun. And Laura Harris was phenomenal.

I was rewatching the final episode yesterday. Loved the show and such a pity it was cancelled but that was a wonderful episode to go out on.

For those who don't know, the SciFi Channel picked up Dead Like Me. No new eps, but those of us who don't have the DVD sets will get to watch it again, thankfully.

Ooh, good for the Sci Fi channel, but I guess that means they're going to cut out all the swearing. The swearing was fun.

Is SciFi going to making new episodes or are they just showing the 2 seasons? It just won't be the same if they plan on continuing the series. There's so many guidelines and restrictions on commercial TV that I fear the show won't be as biting or entertaining as it was on Showtime. I almost cancelled Showtime when they dumped this show, but, IMO, they redeemed themselves with Weeds.

No new episodes, just the two seasons.

I'm not a fan of swearing, so the elimination of the really "bad" ones isn't going to bother me so much.

Announcement; Not a Blog

Just to let all you DLMers out there know that this past week, I have been informed that after this "Dead Like Me" movie comes out, it may, go back to series. After seeing the movie, you'll have to be the judge of whether or not you like the new concept. Give it a chance. I know we all hate change but it has been two years since season 2 so there has to be evolution.

Dead Like Me is my second favourite TV series ever and I am alternatively thrilled and apprehensive about a film version. If they can reassemble that fantastic cast then I'll be more the former than the latter.

I certainly have to agree with Kyo about this being one of the best series ever--I still enjoy catching the re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel (although one could hardly charaterize this show as "science fiction").

I am very much of two minds about a movie: on one hand, it's nice to see interest still being maintained, on the other hand, movies usually involve "expansion" from a smaller medium, and I have to wonder if the transition might prove harmful to the charming, intimate world of Georgia, Rube, and the rest of the merry band of Reapers.

This was one of my favorite shows and the only reason I don't watch any of the reruns is that I have both seasons on dvd. The news about the movie had escaped me as well, and I will certainly buy the dvd when it comes out, which should be fairly soon since it is said to be going straight to dvd anyway. As for the changes, well, I'll certainly give it a chance but most of the original cast would be unavailable for any sort of series, even a limited one, and I'm apprehensive about how many actors they will be losing. It will be good to see Ellen playing George again anyway.

Yea! I love this show! I just re-watched several episodes on Sci-Fi channel over the weekend...now if only they'd do a Willow & Tara movie or maybe Farscape (well, other than Peacekeeper Wars) or Stagate SG-1 or any of the other fabulous shows I miss so much...cuz ya know, Claudia Black in leather...always a good thing ;-)

The Willow and Tara goodness goes without saying or it must because the browser would never accept a post that big :wtkiss

Interesting, and no reason that I know of to believe it has anything at all to do with DLM, but here's this from the Hollywood Reporter:

July 13, 2007

CBS' "Criminal Minds" could return for a third season without Mandy Patinkin. The star didn't show up for the table read of the ABC Studios/CBS Paramount-produced drama's table read this week, which first was reported by E!

Sources said that the episode had been written featuring few scenes with Patinkin, an indication that the show is preparing for a possible future without him.

Rumblings about friction between Patinkin and "Minds" producers first surfaced last summer. It is customary after the second season of a hit show for the stars to renegotiate their deals and get sizable salary bumps, but sources indicated that the current fallout between Patinkin and the "Minds" producers is not salary related.
