Calling All Eliza Fans! "Tru Calling"

Ditto Xita!

Um, except for the part about not watching Friends or Survivor. Somehow I watch both. :spin

I'm really glad to see Eliza in her own show. And Hudson! :love

Poor Tru has one wacko family. Yikes. :(

Cheeeese. I swear this show is preachier than Joan of Arcadia.

It was okay. Better than I expected but that isn't saying much. The first scenes in the morgue did creep me out a little, which was a nice surprise.

I do not like her siblings at all.

I'll probably watch it again.

Eliza is hot. Hudson is hot and needs her own show.

i liked the show, even though it seemed liked Tru was able to get all of the info she needed real quick. she must have been really good a track to be able to get to so many places as fast as she could. it certainly was better than Friends or Survivor

I'm not stealing, I'm just taking things without paying for them. In what twisted dictionary is that stealing?

GG, thanks! I can't resist either faith +1 cartman or metrosexual cartman!

And back on topic, I hope Tru held its own last night. Eliza deserves a chance. And I've said it before but as soon as I hear the name tru , I think of chance. Weird names :p

Hmm. Cheesiest credits ever - get rid of that awful theme song now, please.

Eliza certainly has the charisma and acting ability to carry her own show, and this wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I just wish the script had been a bit stronger - there were a few too many twists, and my husband said that he was exhausted just watching Eliza run around.

I thought the half-time reprise of the action so far from people tuning in after 'Friends' smacked of desperation.

Anyone willing to bet that, before long, we'll be getting hints about the man who killed Tru's mother from the corpses? (Tru on the phone to police: Hi, I have a tip about the guy who killed my mother. Police: Where did you get this information? Tru: Well, it was from somebody who's dead. Police guy hits the 'bring on the men in the white coats' button.)

Anyone know what's up with next week's ep? I though Tru already had a boyfriend, but it's about her meeting her soul mate. I did hear that they'd had some casting problems and a couple of roles were re-cast, so maybe they dumped the actor playing the boyfriend.

I've seen that elsewhere. Gilmore Girls was doing it a couple of seasons ago, in fact. And even TNT is doing it for the nightly Law & Order reruns. Welcome to the world of the ever-diminishing attention span. :spin

Ahhhh good, now I have an explanation for the weirdness. I'd taped the show so I could fast forward through stuff. That recap had me scratching my head.

Whatever... If it hooked some people in who had just flipped channels, ok fine, but please don't do it again!

And yes, Tru's professor squeeze is icky.

While I sympathize with those who have expressed concern over ED's constant running, if it wasn't there, we'd miss the chance to watch all that wonderful *ta-bomp*ta-bomp*ta-bomp* if ya know what I mean:devilish :devil :wink

Oh, Hemiola I so know what you mean! :thud (Speaking of Sanctuary, I still love Buffy's interrogation of Angel: "What got to you? The pouty lips? The heaving bosom?" Well, duh! :lol )

A post-Friends update, I get it now (never having seen that show, except for the lesbian wedding ep, these things just don't occur to me). It does seem pretty cheesy, though (everyone *not* watching Friends---and maybe some who do---will think they're being talked down to).

GG So her theme song sucks? Well, that's a bummer. Out

Re: the "soulmate" in next week's ep: remember, Tru isn't going to be able to save *everybody*. It's my guess that someone described as her soulmate in a second-ep preview ain't gonna make it (aka, the "Mary Sue Effect" )

Well............

It was okay. Which bummed me out because I really really wanted to really really like it.

Plot wise it was interesting, and I see it having much potential. The recap thing bothered me too, but I figured it was just for the people who were tuning in after Friends.

As for the script... it's hard getting used to such mundane writing after years and years of the best writing on television. Ever. (Thank goodness we now have Joan of Arcadia!)

I like how they mentioned how Tru was on the track team like eight times to justify her running all over the place. :wink

As for the supporting cast... um... the only one I took any particular shine to was David, the morgue attendant dude. Everyone else could be recast (or just written off of the show) and I wouldn't shed a tear.

I liked the twists (have to admit -- I didn't see that last one coming), and will definitely watch it again. It's slim pickings out there lately, so if I find something that looks interesting and I don't wretch when watching it, it's a keeper!

I was also expecting something much worse, so it was a pleasant suprise for me. the main idea of the show is not original at all but Eliza truly (:wink ) shines! she can really hold the show.

i like the friend, Lindsay actually, A.J. Cook is very sweet. i really didnt like the professor boyfriend, he just has to go! the siblings are pretty f****d up. i mean one is a coke addict and the other is a gambler? i dont like the sister much but brother isnt that bad. and Davis (her boss) does seem like an interesting and funny character (#7!!):lol .

During out the Ep. i had to keep quessing which i just love doing and it did keep me on edge. i also like the backgroud musics. ( i am a big soundtrack maniac :) ) the music during the nightshift in the morgue when she was alone and 'hearing these voice' was truly awesome. i didnt see the credits unfortunatly...the chanel i was watching them on just skipped them:angry .

I would actually get my butt out of my room every Thursday, take an hour break from my hw and go watch Tru Calling.

Answering her 'Calling'

Star feels dead-on for 'Tru'

By RICHARD HUFF

DAILY NEWS TV EDITOR

Face it, working in a morgue could be creepy for some.

Not Eliza Dushku.

Dushku's character in the new Fox drama "Tru Calling" lands a gig on the midnight shift at the city morgue, where she hears a murder victim asking for help.

Dushku, it seems, was around corpses at a very early age - long before she was around network suits.

"My best friend in elementary school, her father owned a funeral home in Watertown (Mass.), the MacDonald Funeral Home, and we were these kind of crazy, high-energy 7-, 8-, 9-, 10-year-olds," Dushku said. "Every day after school we would go there because her grandmother lived upstairs."

Never would she have dreamed that a decade later she would be starring in a series in which dead people - and soon-to-be dead people - make up a key component.

"Bernadette MacDonald, she introduced me to my first morguish experience," Dushku said.

The twist in the show is that after hearing the cry for help from the dead folks, Dushku's character, Tru, wakes up 12 hours earlier. Knowing what's ahead, she sets out to prevent tragedies.

"Tru Calling," which launches Oct. 30 at 8 p.m., is Dushku's first outing as a lead in a prime-time series. But she's no stranger to television viewers or moviegoers. Dushku played Faith on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," and has appeared in the big-screen films "Bring it On" and "City By the Sea."

Dushku said she immediately identified with the young woman at the heart of "Tru Calling."

"It was kind of surprising, yet comforting," Dushku said. "I felt if I get the opportunity, and they want to get this to me, we do have so many similarities."

After Fox scheduled the show, the cast and crew went back to reshoot parts of the pilot. The original got generally weak buzz from critics who saw it, and even Dushku agrees the new version is better.

"In the pilot, you don't know if you're picked up yet - you're trying to give as many story lines as possible," she said. "There was too much going on in the first one. I think it lost some of the initial direction. The second one was much more clear and concise."

Being the lead means Dushku is also carrying a heavier load than she had in the past.

"In other shows, I used to get to hang out with the Teamsters and kick back," she said.

She also wouldn't mind getting a shot at a guest part on "Angel," either. She said she loves the world that series creator Joss Whedon has made and never wants to be out of it.

But for now, of course, she's got to worry about hearing dead people.

LOL the recap was for people tuning in after Friends? Hee hee then they should work out when Friends runs for 45 mins like it did last week then :)

One of the few good things about the show was Eliza, I'm not going to give up watching Friends to watch this but I will continue to tape it in the hope of improvement. The running just got stupid in the end and some of the dialogue was very predictable. I didn't like the look of the previews for next week either. Oh well at least the first top Eliza was made to run in was good.

So, the day started and I knew my name and had my pants on. So far, so good. Yay.

I finally saw it today, and I liked it a lot. They fixed the main problems from the unaired pilot that was going around a while ago, and I'm really happy they cut out her computer nerd friend. Plus, compared to that version Tru hardly ran at all.

Anyway, the Television without pity review is up:

Okay Fellow kittens...we have an angry kitten here! :rage I KNOW that wherever I read it...it said that Tru Calling started on October 31st. So I stayed at home instead of going to my friend's house to watch it and I did find out it wasnt on. It was the 30th?!?!?!?!?! :cry

Okay, well I need to keep an eye out for reruns then. Im okay now.

Tara: Willow, you are using too much magick. What do you want me to do, sit back and keep my mouth shut?

Willow: Well that'd be a good start.

Ah thanks for the info J uk, I've watched the unaired pilot and I was wondering what the difference was. Axing the nerd friend sounds like a good idea, I hope his absence will be permanent. I haven't been all that fond of nerds since the X-files and this one's obvious crush on Tru was screaming "been there, done that" a bit too loudly for my taste.

I did not like the brother and sister a whole lot, that also seemed a wee bit overdone, immediately one is presented as a coke sniffer and the other as a gambler, eh please, couldn't they have waited with that for one week or preferably forever. I could seriously do without the addiction theme, it has lost it's non existent charm eons ago. As it is, these are relatively minor complaints. The concept of this show may not be totally original, but nothing ever really is, it is sufficiently different to interest me. It definitely has potential and Eliza has a very impressive presence, she can make almost anything work. Heck, I even enjoyed Wrong Turn thanks to her. :p

Not having been able to see it myself, I wonder if this is another case of mainstream critics having a blind spot for evaluating genre properly?

From what I've read here on any number of issues, Kittens aren't sheep. (Sorry, I can't dream up a better simile.) same goes for the people on another site I go to, and both here and there the show is being praised.

Wili it last? Honestly I hope so.

I watched Tru Calling. It wasn't only about the running and bouncing...that was just the best part. Especially the first time, when she was wearing something low-cut.

More seriously, this is a show currently making it--to the extent that it is--on the basis of Eliza's undeniable appeal. The script was only so-so, some of the acting worse.

But, I plan to give it at least another couple of episodes to see if they can't find the proper support to lift the show out of the doldrums, and separate what was good in the pilot (Eliza's breasts, Eliza, some of the writing, some of the acting) from what was bad.

Failing that, I'm hoping there'll be an episode in which saving the cadaver of the week hangs on Eliza wearing a pink brassiere with a pretty bow in the middle.

Much better show this week; most of the silly flaws from the pilot got ironed out. Supporting cast seemed a little more capable this time around, too, and Dushku was even better.

A little predictable towards the end, but all in all, still pretty enjoyable.

To quote Sarah Connor: "In a single day, we loved a lifetime."

GG is feeling very sly for having (unspoiled) guessed that an Episode 2 "Soul Mate" was not long for this world (and I also figured that the little girl survived the second time around).

Agree that this week was much better: the pace, even the dialogue. Her boss is a cool character, and I even kind of like the discord that her siblings bring. Thank god they got rid of that dweeb boyfriend! Not sure about the best friend, though: I think there's a reason (other than the Univ. ethics violation thang) that Tru didn't tell her about the boyfriend (she seems kind of shallow).

Tru really does have a photographic (videographic?) memory, doesn't she? It's fun to play along w/ "Is that a relevant clue?" on Day1. E.g., I was thinking that the burst fire hydrant was going to play a role (in fighting the fire), but I was mistaken: it was only the traffic jam it caused.

Does time seem to have jumped forward in a major way? It was May of '03 last week, and it seems to have been September of '04 this week (calling Sidney Bristow! :p )

GG Still don't get why not-properly clothed/protected off-duty fire guy had to run in to the building again, when there seemed to be plenty of properly clothed/protected on-duty ones there by then. :confused Out

Tru Calling for a complete season?

Tru Calling for a Complete Season ?

The message came from the official Tru Calling forums.

"Here’s the official word on the ratings. Studio and network are happy. Here’s why. We HELD our numbers in the key demmo for this show - women 18-34. In fact, in that segment we came in third for the night beating ABC, WB and UPN. Where the overall numbers went down was - we lost the older folks who tuned in for the pilot - realized it wasn’t for them, and tuned out for week two. If we can keep holding in that W18-34 (women age 18-34) demo, you’ll all most likely get a full season of Tru Calling. Feel free to spread the news.

Unconfirmed rumor that Fox will be ordering more scripts from us. It’s not a commitment to shoot them yet - but it’s the first step towards getting a full season production order beyond our initial 13."

Bear in mind that "official" word on the ratings should be treated just as skeptically as Jane E.'s famous "our boy ratings are up." It's called spin.

I don't particuarly want Eliza's new series to be cancelled--especially since it'll make a lot of Whedon defenders smug about how she she should have done the Faith show if she knew what was good for her--but I'll need more than "official word" before I'll believe the ratings aren't kinda sorta tanking.
