Of course there are the obvious ones like Titanic ( oh yes, the original story doesn't have enough dramatic potential, lets add an insipid love triangle) and Chasing Amy (there are some Kevin Smith movies that I adore, but this is so not one of them...grrrr)...then of course pretty much anything with Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey (with the exception of Eternal Sunshine...loved that one)

But the one that really sucked on a molecular level was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...what a disappointment!!! Generally, Johnny Depp+Tim Burton = instant classic...but OMG what were they thinking? Why the director allowed Depp to play Wonka as a cross between Coco Chanel and a drag queen's impression of Carol Channing I'll never know...the original with Gene Wilder is one of my all time favorite movies...and this...well...it was just crap...I love bad movies...but not like this...it wasn't even bad enough to be hilariously bad (like The Blue Lagoon or something) it just plain sucked!!

I think I'm one of the few people on the Earth that actually liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think maybe it's because I went into the movie thinking of it as a different re-envisioning of the Roald Dahl book instead of a remake of the Gene Wilder film. I really liked both versions, and for different reasons, but I didn't see them as an original and a remake. Kind of like all the different film versions of Little Women. I loved the original Katharine Hepburn version (made in 1933, I believe), liked the Elizabeth Taylor version (1949), and adored the Winona Ryder version (1994). But, that's just me.

I'm in a film class this semester, and was (unfortunately) reminded through some class conversations of Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11. I'm not a gun supporter (hunting, okay, personal protection, maybe, just because the Constitution says I can... no way) and certainly not a fan of President Bush or the Iraqi War, but the way both of these films were shot and editted and presented as "truth" makes me ill. Sure, I got angry after watching them, but not because of their messages... because of the blatently propaganda-like way they were filmed, and eaten up by the public. I know some of you may take offense, and I certainly do not mean any. But to call either of these a 'documentary' is a crime.

Well, you actually managed to watch it. I saw the trailer and I was so freaked out by the way Johnny Depp looked that I dare not even watch the movie. He is scarier than the clown from "It". I admit to never having read the book, Mr Depp´s Wonka looks completely different from Gene Wilder obviously, does anyone know which of the two actually comes close to the way the character was originally described?

Neither is really like the character from the book...who is an old man with crazy hair...so if you count the hair, I guess Gene Wilder comes closest...also I think that the Gene Wilder is much more faithful to, if not the plot of the book then the spirit of it...there is some twisted stuff in his version but the light hearted story for kids thing is there as well as lessons for the kids to take away...the new one was pretty much mean-spirited...the kids were one dimensional stereotypes, whereas in the first one there was at least some sense of childlike wonder there...and I'll stop now cuz I've had too much caffeine and could launch into a full critical analysis if I allowed myself...Also, yeah I managed to watch it...but I got in for free...if I'd paid $8 to see that piece of crap I would have been pissed, not just diappointed

Thank you for claryfying that :), I am actually glad to hear the character from the book looks nothing like the freaky Depp Wonka, though it makes the new incarnation all the more puzzling. I have seen the Gene Wilder movie several times, this year even, and I still like it, dated though it is. I can´t imagine kids being particularly taken with this new Willy Wonka. :yikes

After seeing and liking Ocean's Eleven, I had the misfortune of renting Ocean's Twelve when it came out on VHS. The only positive thing I can say about this movie is that I didn't pay the price to see it in the theater. :spin

The camera work was worse than shoddy, the editing was crap, the storyline was confusing and boring, and- I could keep going. With a cast like it had, you'd think that it would have been better than absolute crap. I guess they spent their entire budget on the cast and forgot about hiring writers, camera people, etc. I watched about 45 minutes of it then left the room and went online to the Kitten board. lol

And to think I'm still harboring all this negativity when this happen about two months ago.

I totally agree with you regarding Ocean's 12.

Even though I can't say I hated the movie ..... it didn't raise enough interest to be worth spending such an intense emotion on it.

It's just completely boring and even if you watch the whole movie (and that's quite an effort) you're not sure what the plot is all about....

Why do good movies always have bad sequels ???

"Matrix", for example. Here is a brilliant movie, one to watch over and over again, so necessaríly there has to be a sequel, and it's soooo bad that I hardly made it through the movie the first time at the cinema.....
not to mention "Matrix Revolutions", one had to watch as "Matrix reloaded" stopped in the middle of everything.
(and I HAD to know how it ended, although it was more that stupid)

I wish the original cast of such movies would just refuse to make bad sequels just because of the money.
Plus, most of the time, the plot in sequels does not match the original movie, hat goes for Ocean's 12, the Matrix sequels and - above all other -the complete "new" trilogy of Star Wars 1-3 !

I saw "The Fog" last night, the only reason I wanted to see it was because of Tom Welling (from Smallville), even that wasn't worth it. Blah it was about fog...and ghosts....wow.

OK, I just wasted the last 106 minutes of my life watching The Fast and the Furious. I should have been NaNoWriMo-ing, but instead I watched something that gave my roomie with epilepsy a headache from all the screwy camera work and gave me a headache from all the utter crappiness. Could Paul Walker be any more wooden??? Not even the lovely and talented Jordana Brewster could save this for me. Plus, I hated her hair. She looked much hotter in D.E.B.S. Ugh.

Hello All,
One move I wanted to love but ended up hating was

(drum roll please)

The Crow: Wicked Prayer

Now, don't get me wrong. I love the 'Crow' story. (I bought and read the graphic novel long before the movie was a reality)

I survived a horrible second film. I sat through a passible third film.

But, my God, this was the one that drove the nail in the coffin of this particular franchise.

If you have any liking for the original movie or story, please take heed now and save yourself some intense pain.

I made the mistake of buying this direct to DVD release now I wish it was in a landfill somewhere.

The story just sucked.

Why, oh why couldn't they use one of the novels published as the basis for a move instead? The Crow: Clash by Night would have been an absolutely perfect film. (The Crow from a woman's perspective, avenging the deaths of children from a day care center bombing where she was the caretaker...?)

Oh, well.....

oh, what a good place to let off some steam: yesterday i wasted almost two hours of my life on a alleged cinematic masterpiece called "i want you". what can i say: "bad" or "boring" doesn't even come close.

don't get me wrong, i LOVE rachel weisz - she was the reason i watched this movie in the first place. but even her part could not make up for the rest. the first hour into the movie you have absolutely no idea what's going on, altough i'm sure you're supposed to - a task in which you only succeed when you're either psychic or the director. and it doesn't get better in the second half.

maybe yesterday just wasn't the day for that film but i doubt i'll give it a second chance. fellow kittens out there take my word for it: if you wanna watch rachel weisz choose any other movie...

I watched The War of the Worlds this weekend and hated it so much, or at least the 40 minutes I saw before abandoning it. In an effort to make it realistic Spielberg has an unsympathetic main character, washed out colours (again!) and different characters speaking at the same time making it difficult to understand what anyone is saying. The only good things about it were the actress playing Tom Cruise's daughter and the special effects, but that wasn't nearly enough to keep me watching.

I pretty much hate anything with Steven Seagal. That guy is just so fake! I remember watching one that he was in a coma for I don't know how many years. He wakes up, then proceeds to immediatly kick the asses of the bad guys. He fights and fights and his hair doesn't even move!

I absolutely hate those senseless all-violence action flicks. So most movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Silvester Stallone are a no no for me. I want plot and they just don't cut it.

What can I say? I'm picky.

Hostel. If you took every bad portion of every bad movie, combined them into one horror film, and then put it on extasy, you will have Hostel. I paid $6 to sit in a theatre and say "WTF is wrong with these people?!?" I am thankful that I got a discount and didn't pay the regular $8 price.

Every time I go to the movie theatre, I become more and more disgusted with this country. Are people honestly entertained by a movie containing torture, soft-core porn, and little else? The characters were flat and boring, which is probably good because most of them died rather quickly. And I don't know if anyone noticed, but there's a large plot hole. Grand canyon sized plot hole. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the lead (who cares what his name is) has no way of knowing it was edward salad hands who tortured his friend. Therefore, why did he kill him? (sorry if that's not clear but I really don't know names and don't care to find them)

One of the absolute crappiest movies I have ever seen happened to be one I recently rented at Blockbuster. I was in the mood for what I thought was going to be silly comedy and it sounded funny on the box so I rented it. What a mistake. It was...

"Dirty Love" starring Jenny McCarthy.

Yes, yes, I realize I was taking quite a gamble renting this in the first place, but I always thought she was funny from her little skit show on MTV from years ago. So, I thought, hmmm...maybe it'll be some silly gross-out humor.

Oh.My.God. It definitely was gross-out, but somehow the humor must've escaped as a noxious gas out of the disc case before I got it home. This was one of the most un-funny movies EVER.

I will take my leave from this thread with an mental image of one scene...

Jenny McCarthy, running through the supermarket searching for "feminine products" at a frantic pace, but not exactly making it through the market without a bit of a, ahem, Hansel & Gretel trail of something other than breadcrumbs.

I absolutely could not stand "Anger Management." I couldn't even finish the movie. I got so pissed off at Jack Nicholson's character for egging Adam Sandler on and then making him the bad guy. I actually get really mad even thinking about that movie!

Underworld 2. I mean, I'm a bright girl but how on earth Sir Derek Jacobi got himself involved with this is beyond me...as was most of the plot...

Enjoyed Ms Beckinsale's leather-clad bottom though - is that bad of me?

I thought Kate Beckinsale's leather clad bottom was the whole point of the first movie and the only reason for making a sequel?

Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

How many impausibly stupid movies with ridiculous endings and bizarre, useless clothing changes can Angelina Jolie possibly be in? Even watching her beat the shit out of him wasn't worth the idiotic plot and Brad Pitt's wooden acting. Thank god a friend had rented it and not me.

Okay, quick vent...Amy picked up a couple of movies for me to watch since I'm at home sick, and I just made it through the first one - Saw. I may be in the minority, at least of the people I know, but I thought it was garbage. I don't mind horror movies (hell, I own most of the Nightmare on Elm Street films) but this movie was just sick and disgusting for no purpose at all. The plot was awful, the acting (other than Cary Elwes) stunk, and the editing must have been done by a hyperactive 15-year old on a sugar high. I still have a headache.

Oh, and the so-called "plot twist" at the end? Stupidest thing I've ever seen.

If anyone is thinking about going to see Freedomland.. don't. Worst two hours of my life. It starts out okay and heads downhill quickly. I went with a friend and we were the only ones in the theatre. He fell asleep.. and I was forced to watch this stupid movie alone. The acting was terrible, the woman (I don't even remember her name) was a nut case and bad at it, the plot was long and drawn out. My friend woke up ten minutes before the end and we spent the rest of the time begging the movie to end. We cheered when it was over. Worst part about it, we kept the whole mall open just to watch that damn movie. Of course we couldn't leave.. I had to see it through to the end.
