Calling All Eliza Fans! "Tru Calling"

Salem Witch Trials, koala bears, SpongeBob: what's on TV and at the movies!

FOX dumps season (and series) finale.

Postby Incarnadine » Tue Apr 19, 2005 7:10 am

April 19

'Fox dumps Tru Calling finale for The Simple Life'. That's all Futoncritic reports on this late breaking news, except that Simple Life will be on at 9 p.m. EDT April 28 and provides show summary.

And in the sked for the following week, when you click on Next Week and then "Shows" pulldown menu, it has no info for Tru Calling, I'm afraid.

All that waiting for them to finally air the last 6 episodes and they yank the rug out on the very last episode, and doing it to air "The Simple Life" is just rubbing salt in the wound.:rage

Veronica Mars: Look at you, all helpful.

Logan Echols: Hey, your peskiness being unleashed on Conner brings me joy. Annoy, tiny blonde one, annoy like the wind!

Tru outdoes jack again in this ep, and this is the way it should be.

I really hate the show is ending. I wanted Davis to find out the truth about his "friend" and put her in her place. I wish Jack and Tru's father would go away and never come back. *sigh* :spin

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

I can't believe that was the Last Episode. :sob

GG So much crap on the tube, and FOX can't even show the last ep of one Kick-Ass series? What is wrong w/ these people??? :fit2 Out

I still love you, Eliza :heart

Given the nature of the last episode (it hardly qualifies as a "finale")...

I think it's very probable that FOX didn't want to put a Christmas episode on in the middle of April. Too much confusion for the mind of a programming exec. :crazy

However, if there's somebody out there who has (a) 345MB of server space lying around, (b) the means for me to upload to it, and (c) the knowledge of how to set up something like a BitTorrent file for it, I can make the last episode available. Email me:

i think it's just ridiculous to have the season pulled off now. Season 2 is much better than season 1. Better and more solid storyline. I'd like to know where the bad guys are going. It's like The Mole. I hope that they change their mind and continue... even if it's not now.

Completely agree, Shinnen. They got rid of the extraneous S1 elements (the friend, Lindsay, I didn't like, the addict-sister who added nothing), and focused the core. Even Harrison (who is still annoying) is more directly tied into the plot (by working for their nefarious father, while he increasingly helps Tru). With his continuing weaknesses subject to manipulation by Jack, he's a loose cannon among the players.

One was just beginning to get a sense of the Bigger Picture: rules, consequences, the "sides" (Tru, Davis, Harry vs. Daddy, skankbot---is it Carrie?---and of course, Jack. I had hopes of Tru's med school buds---where she SO belongs!---joining the fray, also).

It just COMPLETELY SUCKS that FUX threw this away . . . :gnome

GG Don't like to make comparisons, but "Tru Calling" had found a far surer footing in just 5-6 episodes of its second season, than "Joan of Arcadia" found in a complete one (?) of its (and it appears that JofA is headed in the same basic plot direction: TC got there first!) Out

I remember this show. I wasn't that into it. I think the only one I ever sat down and watched beginning to end was the one that was filmed at my college.

i think given half the chance, tru calling might've been a greater show...

a reviewer wrote:The bad news is Tru Calling was not given a chance to grow. Eliza and her cast mates did a terrific job each week, and if Fox had not moved the show from night to night and taken it off the air for extended periods of time, it would have found a bigger audience.

anyways, at least they've released all the episodes (even the unaired ep/s of second season, I believe) on DVD... so at least we can relive our favorite moments anytime we want... but, i think it would've even been better if they pick up the show again or if another television network does (i'm not sure that there is a chance of that happening though... oh well).

by the way, i got the season 1 dvd as a gift for my birthday last september, so i was the happiest kitten...

For me the flashbacks involve those lovely "doe" eyes that go with that beautiful face :-D

Then there was that wonderfully heaving bosom, which gave that marvelous "ta-bomp ta-bomp" effect during the running scenes.;-)

Sadly, those words can be applied to pretty much all of the shows Fox has cancelled in the past 6 years.

Now, why did you have to go and do that for, huh? You gave me visions. Visions!

Thank you!

And I completely agree with you. Eliza running =

have to say I re watched and apart from Eliza's jiggly bits of which you just can't get enough of, the rest of the prog was as I remembered it first time round..... no hidden depths or new means, just pretty formulaic.

If I've nothing better to do I'll have another go this week [not for the jiggly bits. no, not me :lol ]

I'm delighted to report that the SciFi Channel is re-running this series, showing the episodes two at a time. :party

By pure luck, it just so happens that the episode I caught was "Starcrossed", that marvelous story with this memorable bit of dialogue--

Tru: Davis? You remember I thought that this was "Romeo and Juliet"? I was wrong. It's Juliet and Juliet!

Adding to the pleasure, both girls remain alive at the end and decide to stay where they live and "tough it out" after their secret comes out--an excellent debunking of the Lesbian Cliché! :)

Are you ready for this? It looks like the Japanese have come out with their own version of Tru Calling. :shock

It's called Mop Girl, because the main character's job involves lots of mopping. But just like Tru, whenever she runs across the body of someone who died and "left strong feelings behind," she gets transported back in time to save that person from dying.

And based on the preview clips I've downloaded, it looks like she does a lot of running, just like Tru. :lol

Details can be found here:

http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Mop_Girl (in English)

http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/mopgirl/ (in Japanese, but there are pictures and video clips)

Oh, and if this interests anybody - the lead actress previously played Sailor Mars in the live-action Sailor Moon series.

That's interesting--I wonder if they licensed the concept from the creators of "Tru"?

Also interesting is the new ABC show "Pushing Daisies", which seems to be a sort of "comic/surrealist" rip-off of "Tru"--the problem is that it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as entertaining as its source.

You've got to love it. The Japanese (probably through their manga heritage as much as anything) have some of the best ideas going and rarely get the credit when it gets stolen/remade in the west *cough* Matrix - Ghost in the Shell *cough* Maybe they've earned a little payback?

Heck, for all I know Tru Calling was borrowed from somewhere else.

There are, as they say, no original stories in the world.

Oh, for heaven's sake, everybody copies stuff from everybody. I'm a writer - I've known that for years. :grin

I didn't mean anything against the Japanese over Mop Girl. I watched the first episode and enjoyed it very much, even though I couldn't understand what anyone was saying. But it is a lot like Tru Calling. The similarities are unmistakeable.
